I don't think Frank's play of late is because he is tired. I think it is because he is young and still learning. By definition, that will make a player inconsistent. Now, the late FT misses could be from fatigue. I'd like to see him play more like 30-32 mins. I think Devonte can handle things at the point by himself for 8 -10mins.
@HighEliteMajor I remember a couple of instances where Greene hesitated on shots he could have taken, as you pointed out. Were those after he got the 3 pt attempt blocked? Could that have been part of his hesitation?
@wrwlumpy After your comment, I did what I always do at this time of year....look at the remaining schedules of our competition and try to predict how they might finish......a worthless exercise, I know, but kind of fun.
OU (and I agree with you on how they are playing) has @OSU @KSU, @ ISU, and us at home. Unless we beat them, I can see them only losing to ISU and finishing with 5 losses. ISU has a tougher schedule as they play at OU this week,@ OSU, @ Tex and @ KSU. I could see them, in theory, only ending up with 4 losses. Either way, our margin for error just got smaller.
@jaybate-1.0 I was thinking the same thing about being exposed to Forte......guard him but not toooo close!
I understand you point about making 3 more Fts, but you also have to look at missing the front end of 1 and 1s. I know we missed at least 2 front ends. Make some of those and it creates more opportunities, which then changes your %.....does that make sense?
@wrwlumpy Well, I have to ask the obvious question...you're not worried about ISU?
@HighEliteMajor Hem, I sure wouldn't blame missed FTs as the cause for the loss...there are a lot of reasons....turnovers, bad execution. But the missed FTs were, unfortunately, part of the package. Yep, I get it, you can't always shoot FTs well. ...those will come and go.....but they were bad today.
Moonwalk...whoops you were only complaining about the T....got you mixed up with some of the ref comments.
@MoonwalkMafia You know, the home team will usually get the benefit of the calls. We get the same in AFH. Refs are human too (well, most of them) :)
@icthawkfan316 No question....need to tighten some things up!
@nuleafjhawk I think our chances of at least tying for the Conf. championship are still pretty darn good.
@icthawkfan316 I guess what I'm saying is we need Greene to score to justify him playing a lot of minutes.....and he didn't do that in the 2nd half.
Again....I agree he wasn't the major problem. Jamari....6 turnovers....bad enough for a point guard who has the ball in his hands all the time....a 4 man....really bad.
@nuleafjhawk No doubt, our weaknesses are still there. But, it is a journey. I think we will continue to get better. Sort of one of those jagged upward trend lines, if you will......not a straight line.
4 losses still probably wins the league outright. 5 probably ties. But you don't know what ISU is going to do the rest of the way, so if we can beat KSU on the road, we can still lose at OU and WVU and win the league....probably outright. But, we have to do those things, of course.
@icthawkfan316 Well, I hear you, but while Greene was not credited (?) with many turnovers, he was pretty shaky, I thought, handling the ball.
And I love Greene, I'm sure Self played him a lot in the 2nd half because he is our best offensive weapon, but he does a lot of stuff wrong, I think. Fumbles around out there. A couple of times he didn't even come close to contesting shots when the shooter was right next to him.
Total 2nd guessing, but man in retrospect, I wish KO had played more in the 2nd half. But I'm not putting the loss on Greene. Others had more blame.
Bad turnovers. Missed Free throws. Overall poor execution in the 2nd half.
That is how I would sum it up.
We did everything wrong in the last minute.
Frank has left points get away...missed 1 and 1 and 1 of 2
I'm not big on complaining about fouls....but both Greene and Ellis were fouled.
Need to stop putting them on the line.
Maybe we're due for a run?
@cragarhawk Exactly. 8 pts in one quarter of the game.
Disaster.
When we don't turn it over, we take bad shots. Cliff....forced shot over a guy. Mason....running floater. Come on.
We are not handling that pressure well at all.
And I don't even think the pressure is all that tough. We're just doing dumb things.
@brooksmd The Mason T really hurts in that it gave him 3.
Would love to know what the exchange was that earned a T.
Will always take an 11 pt halftime lead. But 7-9 from 3 bailed us out given the stupid, I mean stupid, turnovers.
Will have to do better in that area in 2nd half. Hopefully we will.
Poor defense. Let the slow big guy fake you out and get to the rim and the line.
Big 3 by Frank, though.
Really bad last few minutes. Haven't even been getting shots off.
Too many dumb turnovers.....giving back our lead.
That is why Greene doesn't always play as much as we would like.
Awful pass.
@Crimsonorblue22 I don't think so....but bad foul as Lucas had the shot blocked.
BG's recent stats on 3 ptrs is unbelievable.
We don't seem to be able to guard Nash.
Outcome: KU 71-68 (even though I am worried about this game)
Hawk to Rock: The Big Dog (Simply because he is due)
@truehawk93 I agree that Cliff staying shouldn't, logically, influence Zimmerman's decision. He would be the only true 5. But that doesn't mean it won't influence him. He may see Perry, Cliff, Bragg, and Jamari and see a crowed front court. You would think super talented kids wouldn't worry about that ......but quite often they sure seem to.
@joeloveshawks I'm plenty worried about this game. They have played us very tough in their place. The place will be loud. We always get everyone's best shot, at least emotionally. We've got to keep that darn Forte from killing us. If we keep he and Nash to just decent games, we should win.
Bruce has some problems. I think he is actually a good coach. He just has to prove he can recruit. Foster was a great find for KState. But this is now the 2nd issue with Foster. If it doesn't get unfrigged up soon, they could be in a world of hurt.
@Crimsonorblue22 I hadn't noticed as I only watched a little when I saw OU was pounding them.
The concept of playing at home in a less than full arena is foreign to us.
@Crimsonorblue22 You are right....not tonight. But, for most of the year...they have looked pretty tough.
Plus......we play there on Big Monday.....everybody is gunning for us. We get everybody's best shot....at least emotionally.....when we play in a hyped road game.
I think we lose 2 of the road games left (more likely WVU and OU). We can lose one more for sure, I think, and still win our 11th. We need to win at either OSU or KSU, not slip at Tech or at home and we've got it.
I see a #2 seed in the works. We're all hoping for a final four, but I see, more likely, an elite 8. This team is a year from peaking (of course depending on who leaves). But, who knows. We don't know how much better the team will get and what type of matchup we get in the tourney.
Well, I'll take a 7 pt. lead at the half.
Very cold to start, but we're starting to heat up with a couple of 3s.
@HighEliteMajor Your logic about the small lineup makes sense. But we know Self is not going to change up his starting lineup. We may see that lineup that you suggested quite a bit (at least we hope).
You're right....who is Cliff going to guard? I always worry about such things. Then I remember....the reverse is also true. Who on ISU is going to guard Cliff? If he plays his game, the Big Dog could dominate. More likely, he will be taken out because his man has burned him and we see something that resembles the lineup you suggested.
Should be interesting to see how it plays out.
@DoubleDD What did he say that indicated a lack of respect?
@DoubleDD I believe that the ball has to be on the way down. I think Mason's layup was still on the way up.
@JayHawkFanToo Exactly. He's got to do better. Seems to be inconsistent at the FT line this year. He would really have been the Hawk to Rock if he had hit more of those FTs.
While he is improving, he still gets beat on defense. Doesn't fly with Self.
Selden, for instance, may have unproductive games on offense, but he usually plays tough, hard nosed perimeter defense.
Oubre has more all around game. The team seems to play well with Graham and Mason in the game at the same time.
That all adds up to Greene not playing even half a game.
I hear you though.
Foster has hit some unbelievable shots. He good.
I hate missing the front end of 1 and 1s (Graham, Ellis). It's like missing 2.
Damn Devonte. Keep you mouth shut!
