We're kind of letting them hang around.
@Eric Me neither. Traylor doesn't even look comfortable taking those shots.
Yes. Need to finish the half strong to keep that lead a large one.
Right. Let's get a blow out. Then we can rest the rotation.
16-5. Great start.
I think we will be in control and win, say 72-60. My Hawk to Rock is....
Perry.....too quick for the KSU big guys.
I like the change. I have never like that this challenge has been so spread out.
I have always thought it should be over no more than 2 or 3 days.
Although, I guess it will be harder to televise all the games now....
Big miss by Frank on the 1 and 1. TCU did not play well and they are within 6 at the half.
Too many fouls on our part. We should have put these guys away.
Wow. Lucas, Mickelson, Svi....
Really worried about Devonte's toe!!!
Well, now we can't do anything on offense.....we look like crap.
Lucas can't guard Shepard out on the floor.
I would play either Traylor or Ellis with 2 fouls
23-10. We're getting inside at will. But for some missed shots, it would be even worse.
@BeddieKU23 Normally, when 2 contenders play, I want the home team to win....thinking that if a contender wins on the road, that is a game that the other contenders (in this, case our Jayhawks) have to win. So, I agree that we probably want KSU to beat WVU as WVU is more of a contender, I think, than KSU. However, if KSU wins at home against WVU, at some point, we need to start taking them seriously.
@drgnslayr I guess one good thing about the "Topeka YMCA" referenced game is that Self can use it as a warning to not let up. You are right....they had WVU beat.
@REHawk I'm with you. But, I think that with his length and athletic ability, if he has, for instance, a good stretch in the tournament, he could likely be a lottery pick, or close to it, and have a hard time staying.
@icthawkfan316 As I was reading the posts, I was thinking what you posted.....it was probably hard for Wiggins to be unselfish when Self was pushing him to be the Alpha Dog. In today's AAU, OAD environment, I can see why it would be hard to be both a team player and a star.....some guys do it, of course.
I do think that Self's system is not ideal for the player who sees himself as a for sure OAD player. I would note that some of the top guys that have come here (Oubre, I think Alexander, and now Bragg) have said at some point that they are not necessarily OAD. That type of attitude probably fits Self's team better than some of the other guys.
@jayhawk-007 I think you make a good point about Selden. I thought he played physical, hard nosed defense on the perimeter yesterday. I didn't DVR the game like many of you do (I think I will start doing that) so he may have had lapses....I don't know.
I also commented on some of the other threads that I think Self has made the right moves in the last 2 games by playing the guys down the stretch that are producing the best results....even though that hasn't included Wayne. But his contributions yesterday, with big 3's and tough perimeter defense were, I think, a big part of the win.
Yes there is, but this seems so familiar. We win on the road and the others don't.
TCU did not get back on that last play....I think they were too busy celebrating. I think the foul call might have been questionable. Should have been a WVU loss at home.
Tech pulled it out, but man did they handle the press horribly at the end.
They won in spite of themselves.
@Crimsonorblue22 McKay totally flopped. He almost had a smirk or a grin on his face afterward.
I hate that rule.
@approxinfinity 3 TO's is awesome. Great job in attacking the zone......great coaching by Self and execution by the team.
Graham, I thought, was great at attacking the zone when he was in there.
While there is a long way to go.....doesn't this all seem familiar? A big win on the road. Other conference teams can't replicate that success.
WVU got lucky or they would have lost one at home today.
ISU coming back, but hopefully they'll take it on the chin today.
@HighEliteMajor Great points, HEM. I was thinking also that once again, Self went with the players that he felt were most effective at the time. The last 2 games he has made the right moves.
Selden did make a couple of 3s, but the 5 that were in there down the stretch were the most effective.
@KUSTEVE Jethro, you called it baby! Great win!
10 pt lead. Awesome. Right....need to play tough D and take care of the ball
Cliff has to finish that dunk.
Good "D" turns into "O". That's what we need!
@Crimsonorblue22 That funny.....I felt the same way. Looked like a dork.
@JayHawkFanToo Agree. I bet you'll see him in after the TO
@brooksmd Agree, I'll take it. But, potentially important finish to the half. I was hoping for 7 and it turned into 2.
Dang. Up by 5 with the ball. Now Tx going to line to cut to 2.
I really want a halftime lead.
Don't we need to get the ball in the middle more?
@jaybate-1.0 Great stuff, JB!
I think we were the victims of a little home cookin' at ISU. It sometimes happens. I think there were calls that were missed both ways against OU.
I agree that we probably need to win 1 or 2 of those games. We need to think in terms of winning at OSU and KSU. If we lose at OU, Texas, and WVU, that is 4 losses....that should get us at least a tie. 5 losses might do it also.
ISU has won at WVU....but lost at Baylor. So....I look at it that we are even with them.
@REHawk As I was watching the end of the game, I was surprised that Greene was in there at crunch time. Of course, as you said, Self's move was the right one....Greene was huge down the stretch.
It felt like somewhat of a breakthrough.....Wayne not being in there at crunch time.
He'll still start, but it certainly felt different.
@Crimsonorblue22 Thanks for the heads up! I was able to see the 3rd quarter.
Agree.....nice shooting touch, moves well. Good FT shooter......great to see.
@HighEliteMajor Yes....I am one that had this down as a loss......and said that it would not hurt us, in theory, in the conference race.
I commented on the live thread here that I was sick of seeing us being beat down the court......maddening! I also was going crazy that Cliff was not playing.....then I read the article about Self's reasons.....I guess we'll have to take it on faith that it will be good for Cliff, and the team, in the long run.
I was thinking the same thing during our run at the end....our best lineup appeared to be Mason, Graham, Selden, Oubre, and Ellis.
Lucas was totally out of place against ISU.
I am sick of seeing us get beat down the floor!
Almost halfway through the 2nd half and we've hardly seen Cliff.....I'd like to see him get some of the minutes that Lucas is getting.
We were way too sloppy with the ball in the first half. Also did not get back after a made basket early in the half which led to too many points.
@JayHawkFanToo Oh, I agree...Self would get the "T" on himself.
@JayHawkFanToo I hear you on the "T" and firing the crowd up. Standing up for your team is a good thing. But, I'm sure Self would say he should be the one to decide when a "T" is good for the cause and not the players......and I would have to say I believe the same thing.
But, I agree, that one was not all bad!
@KUSTEVE I am glad you are optimistic. I hope you are right. I'm afraid this will be a loss. The place will be rockin. They are probably due for a good shooting game. ISU's problem last year was that they were too fired up, I think, and shot the 3 like crap.......we can only hope for a repeat.
If we do lose.....won't hurt us in the conference race if we otherwise take care of business.
Only upside for us.
But......I do need me some of that crimson and blue moonshine yer drinkin'. :)
@MoonwalkMafia That has always been Perry's demeanor. I don't think it is any different than it has been.
@benshawks08 Self said that he did not put Cliff back in the 2nd half because the team was playing well with Lucas in there. Lucas played good D and got some rebounds. But....he missed a layup and fumbled the ball under the basket also. Defense and rebounding mean a lot......that's why Selden plays as much as he does even though he is not scoring.
Just the fumbled balls under the basket have cost us 6 points in the 2nd half.
26 of 40 fts if I am correct. 65% won't cut it.
Sloppy play is killing us. Bad look by Mason led to a foul by Devonte and 2 fts for Nash.
@Crimsonorblue22 I think that ISU victory at WVU will look bigger and bigger as the season goes on.
Oh, I think he'll play in the 2nd half.
4 pt halftime lead. Feels like it should be more. If we hit a better ft% and don't give them 4 pts on T's we would have the lead it feels like we should.
