In answer to the questions about whom to root for.....My philosophy is to root for ISU since they are the home team....if they win on the road that gives them an edge.....but they may not lose any more games and we still get WVU at home.
Either way, I'm hoping for an exhausting triple over time game.
I'm not too proud to take any advantage we can get for Monday's game.
They are a good rebounding team, so I guess we did well to hang with them.
Looking at the box score...our only production was from Perry, Wayne, KO, with Lucas chipping in 9. Hardly anyone else scored much...we're usually a little more balanced. But...whatever it takes. I also noted that Baylor had a guy with 38 mins. and 3 with 34. We only had 1 guy with 34. That had to have helped us down the stretch. Lucas was great. He was what we needed inside. Got some boards, got to the line. He was key.
@Crimsonorblue22 Assuming they re-open....where is it located? Mass St?
I only get to Lawrence now and then. Where is the restaurant with the great wings?
I thought Dougie was not as bad as usual. The "20 mins. away" comment was ridiculous, though. Why didn' he just say before the game started...."40 mins. away from their first victory"?
I have to disagree with you on the Mason call...I thought that could have gone either way.
Well we dodged that bullet. Can't complain about 21-4...but I don't see how we've done it when it seems like we only play well for one half....every game.
Wow. We made the plays down the stretch. What Oubre was doing taking that shot I don't know....but it worked!
Lucas has been huge. I'm not sure that wasn't a flop, though.
Dang if BG had hit that one.....now they go to the line with a chance to cut to 4
Right. BG missed 2 in a row....that's cold for him. He was due.
I don't understand how you leave Chery that wide open. Down by 4, now.
@cragarhawk Absolutely right!
I love Green as a weapon, but he does get beat on defense more than the rest of the guys...IMO
These dumb turnovers are killing me! 2 by Cliff...now Wayne.
Dang it!
What an uphill battle. First lead of the game!
2nd half is going to be tough. We need energy, tough D and keep them off the offensive boards. Baylor got a few too many in the last couple of minutes of the 1st half.
I'm worried.
I guess we'll have to take down 6 at halftime. Would like to have had a better look at it than the off balance shot Greene ended up with, though.
When we were down 13, I was hoping for 6 or 7 at the half. It stayed 26-23 for too long.
@Crimsonorblue22 Kick it out.
Even though it is great that we got to within 3....we still had multiple chances to take the lead when Baylor went cold....couldn't take advantage.
Traylor in the lane.....ouch.
@Crimsonorblue22 Yes....and we are finally keeping them off the offensive boards!
Alright. Within 6. I was hoping to get there by halftime. Now keep it up! We need to play D!
Really bad start. Baylor has more energy. Killing us on the boards.
Down 13 and they are at the line. Big hole to dig out of.
Ughh.. Gottlieb.
Baylor, like every year, is capable of beating anyone, anytime, but overall continues to, overall, under achieve. They have been good lately.
They are dangerous, even in AFH.
I'll go with a close game. We win by 6.
@Crimsonorblue22 Thanks for the heads up!
I happen to think that weed should not be legalized. You can compare to alcohol all you want. I don't buy the argument that it should be legalized because it is no worse than alcohol (and that is debatable). Alcohol is bad for society. Yes...I do drink alcohol. Just because alcohol is legal does not justify making pot legal. If you could convince me that there was a reliable test to keep people from driving while under the influence of pot....then I would care much less if it were legalized. Also, just because a lot of people think it should be legalized does not mean that it should. People don't always know what is right for them. That being said, I understand the argument that it should be a person's choice to smoke or not. I think that is a valid argument. Just my opinion.
@HighEliteMajor I am likewise bewildered over Traylor's recent performance. I think it probably does have something to do with him feeling like he needed to play a bigger role. As you have pointed out many, many, times, we don't need him to do that. He just needs to bring energy, hustle, rebounding, and score when the opportunity arises. I have to believe that he will get back in his groove.
My first thought, before I got to the bottom of the thread was that JH should be let go for not telling his employer about the offense.
If he had told them, there should have been a stiff penalty. You can't punish the kids for testing positive without severely penalizing a coach that does the equivalent. As I thought more about it, I thought about how we are a 2nd chance society......I agreed with the comment above about how he should be proactive and enter some type of rehab. Then, I got to the bottom and read that he has been suspended. That doesn't mean he won't ultimately be let go, but I think that won't happen. I think I am OK with that given other transgressions that have occurred and how others have been given 2nd chances. I know that not telling your employer takes it to another level, so I am conflicted.
@icthawkfan316 You're right. Not enough comments about the game in general.
I saw Greene's lallygagging on defense and sure enough......he came out. It was pretty blatant lazy defense. I don't understand why he would do that even for one play. We need him in there because he is an unbelievable weapon. Selden has shot the ball well enough of late that his 3 pt %, well as his FT % are now decent....unlike earlier in the season.
I thought Cliff played well other than the first couple of trips....but Oidase did outplay him. I think Cliff will continue to improve.
We finally got some decent seals inside in the 2nd half and got some easy baskets. One bad half, one good half......never heard that one before.
I don't always know if I can figure out the method to Self's madness with what he says to the media. I think he is being hard headed about going inside. But as others have said, we need a balanced offense. We do need to be able to get the ball inside and we need the guards to penetrate. That all opens up the 3 ball which we shoot very well.
I do worry about living with the 3 and dying by the 3. At some point during the tournament (conf. or NCAA) we will likely be cold from the outside. Although.....we do have several guys that can shoot it well.
Two on one and Devonte gets his shot blocked.
Nice look by Wayne to the wide open Greene. Why they left him open I don't know...but we'll take it.
Odiase as eaten Cliff's lunch on 2 straight plays.
Big shot by Wayne. We should be killing these guys. But with the way we played after the first part of the half....we are lucky to be up by 5. Man I wish Perry could finish some of those shots!
3 blocked 3 pt shots...come on.
We should be killing these guys. Cliff loses his man. What was that pass from KO?
Come on guys, don't let them hang around.
Greene let his man get right around him.....it didn't look like he was hustling....and he promptly comes out.....then he had an attitude on the bench.
I notice he didn't come back in against the zone.
Bad exchange for Cliff. Gets the RB then let's the guy take it away from him.
Then the guy goes right around him for a potential and one.
Well, I'll say this because I don't think the outcome of the game will be affected by what I say......but Tech doesn't look very good.
@globaljaybird Yes. Bad start offensively for Cliff....man.
Couple of nice plays on the other end, though.
@MoonwalkMafia Well here's hoping that our worst fears don't happen.....2 quick fouls and to the bench for Cliff.
But I'm glad he is getting the chance.
@JayHawkFanToo I think we CAN win at WVU.....it won't be a major surprise to me if we do win....but I don't expect it. Maybe people are weighting the fact that we get everyone's best emotional shot in their place....more so than the other visiting teams. Also, emotion and energy help a team that plays the way WVU does.
@RedRooster You might be right, but I just can't accept the concept that Self would try to "hide" Cliff or hinder his development to hold on to him for another year. But you are not the only one to say this.
I think he is trying to get the best effort and performance out of Cliff. Self seems to give guys with a track record (even an uneven track record) more rope than the new guys. Hence, the minutes that Selden and Traylor get.
Of course, both of us (and everyone else) are just speculating
I think Self is just doing what he has always done. 8 man rotation, sometimes 9 (Luca). Svi is the odd man out.
I think we for sure should be rooting for OU. You don't want your competition for the title to win on the road.....particularly when this is ISU's toughest game left on their schedule.
@tundrahok I think your theory about Self sending a message and hoping that Cliff gets it by tournament time is a good one.
@bskeet I'm guessing that Cliff does not start as Self is hesitant to make such moves. I think he should....but I don't think he will. But, we would hope that, given Jamari's issues lately, Cliff plays more minutes than he has been.
@MoonwalkMafia Thanks for posting. Further evidence of what most of us have been saying.
