This Cliff on the bench thing is getting to me. Especially with Lucas so ineffective.
That banked 3 was weak sauce.
Twice Mason has committed the worst foul possible.
@Crimsonorblue22 yep
Just as I criticize our inside play, we score 3 straight hoops inside. Getting their front line in foul trouble has helped...we'll take it!
We really stink when we get the ball down low...no other way to put it.
@wissoxfan83 Agree. Drives me crazy.
@Lulufulu Newman and Brown are still considering us.
@bskeet Yes. But Perry is a tweener....not sure how effective he will be in the league.
I was hoping we could have stretched that lead at halftime....no dice.
I love Landen and he will be a reliable player at some point.....but man he looked bad offensively. That awkward jump hook (or whatever that was) and missing the point blank layup....yeesh.
Bad pass by Greene! That was 2 pts!
Cliff gone until the 2nd half....and then he'll have to be careful.
Ziegler has gone right by Greene a couple of times.
Nice move by Frank.
2 straight strips. Come on.
2 on Cliff. Bye Bye for a while.
Good to see penetration by Graham for the dish...
A ways to go still, but it is starting to be clear who the top 4 teams in the Conference are.
Texas looking lost at times, as usual against ISU. Looks like we're going to have to make sure we either win at KSU or OU (or both)
@Crimsonorblue22 Yes....them too!
Hook em Horns.
@Crimsonorblue22 No, but they wouldn't win anyway. I'm sure he'll be back in the lineup Monday. Bruce needs to beat us to somewhat save the season.
@MoonwalkMafia I hear where you are coming from. However, rebounding is only part of the issue. Yes, we were poor at it on Monday, and better rebounding could have made the difference. But, Cliff looked shaky on handling the pressure and on defense. Also, Jamari did work the ball around and found the open man several times during the stretch when we moved into our lead. So...maybe playing Cliff more would have won us the game......but we don't know that at all.
@HighEliteMajor You sure like to stir it up...don't you. :)
Selden by far. I get the rationale behind the question, though. I think Selden is a victim of his perceived (maybe real) potential I know I was really excited the way he looked in the McDonald's game. Great quickness, super passing, good shooter. But I also thought that Malik Newman was the fastest player I every saw last weekend when he was on TV. Things sometimes change when they get to the next level. Maybe he still has slight injuries. I know the lack of finishing at the rim is vexing. But, the biggest surprise to me is the ballhandling. I hold my breath when he handles the ball against any kind of pressure.
I still think he is a very good player. Good perimeter defender, improving shooter. Just not as complete as all had hoped.
Maybe there's still time......
@wrwlumpy Well, it it might be a tough game, but I hope not. I realize they have played most everyone tough. But we are better and we are playing a home. If we don't pull away from them at some point, we haven't played to the level that we should.
Now, I am worried about the KSU game. Could be pivotal to winning #11.....
@Bwag Exactly.....how does he get that good of a look?
G
I hope we can hang on these last 8 secs. 3 straight empty possessions.
We probably don't deserve to win.....sorry guys.
Frank with an unforced error. So much for them not being able to shoot.
We need to own the last 2 mins.
Giving up that 6 pt. lead has made me sick. So many wasted opportunities.
If we don't win this game, it will be due to giving up so many offensive boards.We've given them so many extra opportunities.
Traylor has been the key to the 2nd half with his passes.
@cragarhawk That's the way I feel. Should have a bigger lead.
Traylor coming up big. Still a couple of dumb TOs. Bad charge for Perry.
2 straight baskets. Perfect start to 2nd half!
Yes, given the start, down 3 is OK. However, once we closed the gap, I felt like we had a couple of chances to take the lead.
For a team that doesn't shoot well, they've hit some outside shots. We're within 2. Right where we want them.
It feels like we're starting to get our legs under us now. 21-16.
Between the 6 Offensive rebounds and the TO by Selden, they had the ball for about 3 mins. on the clock. Ball control offense!
2 carless TOs. Can't afford those. 8-0 is a nightmare start.
@drgnslayr Exactly. Which team will show up? We very seldom have put 2 halves together. One bad half on the road can result in a hole that you can't dig out of.
I don't think Self changes his starting lineup. But to your point.....the style of play will likely change the substitution patterns and which guys play more minutes. You just scared me with the thought of BG handling the ball against their press.
In theory, it should give us an advantage and it may end up that way. But, in today's OAD or TAD environment, the top players seem so motivated to see who leaves and who stays, I think that will be a bigger factor with the top players that are still considering us.
@JayHawkFanToo You are correct. I checked because I was curious. I was in grad school for those 2 years, but could not remember which years Calipari or Self were there.
To verify, I stumbled on a Coach Cal website. Excuse me.....I need to take a shower now. :)
@JayHawkFanToo I'm not sure, but I thought that Calipari was a full assistant under coach Brown when Self was a grad assistant.
I think that story has not come close to playing out. No question that coming back will make him better. But, the NBA drafts on potential. A good 3 game span can vault somebody into the mid first round or the lottery.
@ZIG Ditto, HEM
Every time I see a game played at WV I think of a couple of years ago when Buzz Williams, after an interview about his Marquette team's victory did a kind of a waltz to the John Denver "Country Road" song playing in the arena. The remaining fans there went crazy with anger. He shouldn't have done that and correctly apologized later at his press conference, but I still thought it was hilarious. Could have turned into a "Weatherwax"
Does anyone remember that?
So.....that was a good way to attack the zone?
Yes, but now I'm more worried about next Monday night in the Octogan of Dumb (love that term!)
Oh man, I wish I had read this thread earlier to see what HEM said......
This game does demonstrate that there are so many ways to win a game.....and a good team needs to be able to do them all.
Attacking the basket and FTs won the game for us when we weren't hot from outside (other than KO). I'm not enough of an X and O guy to know if we went about attacking that zone the right way or not. Clearly this was an example of an AFH win.
Also, as I noted on the other thread, Baylor had one guy that played 38 mins. and 3 others that played 34. We had one that played 34 and everyone else less. That had to have helped down the stretch when we outplayed them.
Concerns for the long run:Still only playing one good half. Cliff's not earning the minutes everyone thinks that we need out of him.
@Crimsonorblue22 Looks like that triple OT will not happen.
@drgnslayr Yep. But it beats "journeyman D League player" or "journeyman European player"
Like they used to say about Fred Patek of the Royas being the shortest player in the majors....better than the shortest player in the minors.
