That's the way it always is before the final four.

So dumb question, wasn't that official to when dg went down? Why did they get the ball?
I think they may have called a travel
Hope Graham is ok. We are screwed if he isnt
Yep, keep trying to shoot out of the slump. Yep, that will work lol
Good grief we are playing so dumb right now.
Need to keep playing good d. Our overall defense is much better with Dok on the floor.

@DoubleDD Mitch tries but tough for him to rebound matched up with Delgado.
Yes. Already has give up three offensive rebounds.
Devonte trying to do too much. Just make the easy play

If KU plays Duke, Bagley is gonna score 50+.
I doubt we would be his first fifty point collegiate game, unless you were exaggerating....
Thanks for the numbers. I feel the same as you that we are due for a couple games in the 30% range from three, which is honestly best for this team. We need to save our really good shooting night for the elite eight and trudge through the early rounds while relying on gritty play to advance. Save the hot shooting game for Duke or Michigan state, imo. Can't solely rely on driving the ball and playing inside to beat either of those teams.
Duke is pinching in the middle to make that pass hard.
@BeddieKU23 yep. Their spacing is very poor
What Nova is doing to Alabama is exactly what we need to do to Seton Hall today. Nova isnt allowing Alabama any space to shoot or drive the lane - lots of attention to defense and getting stops.
@HighEliteMajor But missouri only lost by like three. Virginia was blown out.
Wow Charleston really coughed up a lot of chances to win. Auburn very very fortunate to win.
Charleston with key free throw misses
Great end of game gameplan...or not
Free throws are kind of an important part of the game....

I used to cheer for the shocks but their fan bases arrogance rivals KSUs. Have a couple of good years and think you’re a national power. GTFO! They are finding out, when you don’t play in a typewriter maintenance league, you can rest starters for 10 minutes the last 2 months of the year.
And its harder to be the hunted than to be the underdog. Now that everyone talks about them, the pressure is on them to perform. A little dose of reality is all. This is the sort of thing the blue bloods have to deal with every game.
@BeddieKU23 nerves? Playing tight? Peaked too early?
Seton hall played really well yesterday with arguably their best offensive performance of the year. The key for tomorrow is defense - getting out to shooters, containing dribble penetration and rebounding. If we lose, it won't be because we don't have Dok at 100%. Never has and won't be on Saturday.

Unfortunately I see it the same way. SHU wins comfortably.
More lackadaisical and dumb basketball will result in a ku loss. Now IF, and that's a big if, our guys play smart and rebound, I like our chances.
Tech back in front now. Looking more like the team we faced

KU and the 9 Donks.
Yep. Teams only get up to play us. Has tech even hit any outside shots this game?
Tech is in trouble
Well that was close. I think the fellas played tight and not to lose today. Hopefully it will be better Saturday.
We are rolling now
Yeah guys!!!!

Coaching. Someone needs to correct this but they don't.
Typical flat and tight tourney game from Self. Just need to survive and hope we play better next game.

@Crimsonorblue22 P*ss on the announcers. WE need to play defense or we are going home. Period!!!
The team must be in three point shot mode today.

Just not a very disciplined team. Pretty sad actually

How typical!! Too lazy to get out on the shooters. They are right back in it. Why can't we have ANY killer instinct? Double digit lead you should put them away!!
They are too inconsistent. Same with Newman - good one or two games, then flat for the same period.
Better do something different at half. Press, zone, trapping etc.
Usual playing tight choke job in the works. Excellent work
Can't afford to get down double digits...
@BShark leaving them open as usual. Just not smart basketball at all.
Great start lol
@justanotherfan Good breakdown. I would add KU in 2007 as another possible title along with 2010 and 2013. All three of those teams were much better than they performed in the tournament, such as the epic meltdown at the end of the Michigan game and playing asleep during UNI.

Coach K and Williams have ongoing health issues and Coach K is one surgery away from retirement but he will probably stick around to torture college basketball and until he find a suitable replacement from among Duke alumni and I don't see anyone stepping up any time soon; Jeff Capel is juts not it and I see Jon Scheyer as a better option but still a few years away. Roy Williams would have been gone if the grades investigation went a different way but his health is a serious issue and I see him also actively trying to find a suitable replacement. Idon't believe either coach will be around in 5 years.
Coach Self realistically can go for another 10 years and seems happy at KU and I don't see him leaving until the streaks is broken. He seem heavier than i remember and could lose a few pounds; maybe he can get Hudy to set up a exercise/diet regime for him.
Great point about the streak. I highly doubt he leaves within the next five years if the streak is still intact.
@Kcmatt7 lol so true

Even if that hadn't happened, I think we still would have lost. You could tell in the first five minutes that they had no energy or bounce in their step. That's what needs to be avoided. That and playing smart when playing shot blockers.
I had to listen to that game on the radio, so I did not see the "bounce" of lack thereof for myself. I'm sure that played into things, but how deflating is it to lose arguably your best player 3 minutes into the game? How much of that factored into their lethargic play?
We talk a lot about refs and foul discrepancies. I've generally argued that I could care less about the discrepancy. A foul is a foul and should be called. I say the timing of the fouls and when they are called has a bigger impact on the game results. A box score may show that the fouls were fairly evenly distributed between two teams, but it doesn't tell the whole story.
KU and Oregon both had 13 total fouls in that game, but only JJ had four. Yet, Jordan Bell, who had 8 blocks and pretty much aggressively tried to swat everything in sight, somehow ended up being the only starter on both teams to have only 1 foul. I generally don't like to blame refs for losses, but that never sat well with me.
Anyway, I'm going to stop writing about that game. I can feel my blood beginning to boil just typing this.
No, you could tell from the first possession - it was pretty clear and never changed the entire game except for a brief period in the second half. By that time, it was too late.
The reason Bell had eight blocks and one foul is because they played stupid, not smart, basketball. It is plain dumb to try to float shots over a good shot blocker, and yet we see our guys do that continually, or we see them try to dunk over someone like Konate. I really wish the staff would work on this with them, but we see the same things over and over and over.
Basically, it wasn't the refs, but the typical Self style elite eight game (also called choke) that resulted in the loss. They beat themselves.

Remember how KU just dismantled Purdue last year in the Sweet 16? How great they looked? I certainly do. But I also remember what happened two days later. That cold shooting night is lurking.
I agree with you big picture and am concerned about when the missed bunny brick-fest that sinks us seemingly every year will rear its ugly head. But last year against Oregon I firmly believe the two quick fouls on JJ completely changed the complexion of that game and what we were able to do offensively.
Even if that hadn't happened, I think we still would have lost. You could tell in the first five minutes that they had no energy or bounce in their step. That's what needs to be avoided. That and playing smart when playing shot blockers.
I think Bennett has all the intangibles that the coaching position at KU requires, as others have mentioned. The only thing he lacks is final fours. If he had, let's say two or three final fours, would anyone doubt that he is the right guy? I wouldn't. With Hunter out, who knows how they will fare, especially in a loaded region.
justanotherfan said:
I would fear KU if I were an opposing team because if they are hot from three, you can't beat them. KU has shown that they can hit 15+ threes in a game. If they do that, you're probably sunk, regardless of how well you play offensively because you're most likely trading threes for twos. So I agree that KU is a nightmare matchup in that respect. You don't want to catch them on their one hot night, because your season is probably over.
On the opposite side, though, as a KU fan, I worry about that one cold night. As KU fans, we aren't worrying about just one game. We have to worry about each step along the journey. That's what makes it harder. KU will almost certainly shoot someone out of this tournament before everything is said and done. But they likely won't win it, because they will probably have one cold game that ends their season.
Same reason as an opponent, I would worry about playing Arizona with Ayton (what do you do if he goes for 30 and 18?), Alabama and Sexton, or Mizzou with a healthy Porter. Those teams likely won't win it because they have flaws, but their one lottery pick could carry them on a given night to end your season. But if I were a fan of those teams, I would worry that the ride will be short because I can't imagine those guys carrying a team past the Sweet 16.
Remember how KU just dismantled Purdue last year in the Sweet 16? How great they looked? I certainly do. But I also remember what happened two days later. That cold shooting night is lurking. If KU can keep it at bay (and get some good slashing games from Newman) they might be able to survive it this year. But it is lurking.
That's why defense, rebounding and versatility on offense are so important to advancing. This team has shown to be capable of the things I listed at certain points and will need to in a tournament game prior to the final four, just like last year.

Let me pose this question. If you are a team with title aspirations in the NCAA, which is the last team you want to see In your bracket or which team you really don’t want to play regardless of who you are ? My answer would the KU.
^^^^^^^
This. As someone said before, we are that hot-shooting guard oriented type team that people always talk about could go on a run in March. It's why they play the games.
