FLOOR BURN AWARD: KU vs BU - Jan 20 • Jan 22, 2014 05:20 PM

I agree Seldon's hustle play diving out of bounds was huge, but he has been doing it since the OU game. I think in every game since then he has been motivated to get the ball.

Now on a sour note of his play, Doug Gottlieb had to go on cbsradio and his twitter for the second straight KU game and show pics of plays the refs made, this time was that Seldons foot was on the line. He couldn't say that it was a great play only that the refs missed it some how. During the oust game he had to post a pick of Blacks foot on the baseline before a dunk and on Embid's block through the rim.

Apparently Doug is flawless in his lif...Oh wait no he's not he has a permeant felony record for stealing credit cards, and lets not forget how he wears his shorts.

Way to go Wayne, keep getting those floor burns and the W's will keep happening.

I gave you a favorite , but I do disagree that he brings constructive criticism, he just criticizes everyone that ever beat him.

@Careful you I went with how I really felt at the moment. He is on a sop box this year and he needs to be knocked off. Once he got away on TNT with his racist locker room comment during the turn he thinks he is untouchable. Look what he has said about college players this year:

Does anyone know who is doing to play by play and color for CBS true the OKst game?

Please don't let it be the over zealous jealous credit card stealing pants on backwards ignorant one sided KU hating idiot.

No I can't bring myself to saying that morons name.

Thank you all for your well wishes.

I survived another surgery this year, 3 in total.

Can't go anywhere, do anything or eat much as my neck is in a rigid brace tip early January and lets just say I know where every little minuscule bump in the road is from home to the hospital now.

I will check in every now and then, and hopefully get a chance to follow the Jayhawks a little closer now that I'm off pills and recovering at home alone.

Message of The Day Quotes • Nov 18, 2013 05:24 PM

To me, there are three things we all should do every day. We should do this every day of our lives. Number one is laugh. You should laugh every day. Number two is think. You should spend some time in thought. And number three is, you should have your emotions moved to tears, could be happiness or joy.
But think about it. If you laugh, you think, and you cry, that's a full day. That's a heck of a day. You do that seven days a week, you're going to have something special.

JaQuan Lyle And The Dreaded Transfer Risks • Nov 17, 2013 06:58 PM

Wondering if anyone can recall a player that transferred from KU and became the star they thought they were going to be?

Anyone jump right of the page and make you ask, "Man how'd he get away?" ???

NO really I have been. I have CTE (what Junior Seau had) caused by TBI cause by too many damn concussions in life. It's a long story as how I got them all, so really it's a bunch of stories that can be long.

Any way I'd like to say if my memory serves me correctly, but it doesn't.

I've had sever headaches until this past January when I had a ocipital nerve pain simulator implanted on my brain to get rid of them. I tell you this as I head for another surgery this week on my neck.

I have to have another disk fused(already had c5-c6 fused 4 years ago) and a bone spur removed from a vertebrae.

I will miss a few games as I'm sure I will be cooked up on some type of pain pill as I recover for three months. But when the pain is that much for this long it is time to make it stop and unlike so many I have looked for help in so many placed and not been to afraid to let others know that I am in pain, maybe it's because Ididn't play college or pro football I have done this, maybe it's because I want to see my kids grow up?

Now I know you don't know who I am and I'm not a everyday poster here and most likely people would not have noticed I was gone. BUT if you see a strange post or rant or something that just doesn't make any sense, well it's the drugs talking, it doesn't mean I'm from missery, these drugs are legal by prescription and not made in my uncles trailer by the creek.

S I hope I will be able to check in and see what you are all talking about and to get all my news on everything Jayhawks here between all my naps.

Keep posting, keep each other on your toes and most of all enjoy the moment that is now, because tomorrow is not guaranteed!

Calipari has Failed! • Nov 15, 2013 03:18 PM

This freshman class at KY is only the best class per signings and recruit rankings. That is the equivalent to a preseason bracket of 68 teams filled out picking the winner. It's good in theory but...

The Fab5 of Michigan, King, Jackson, Rose, Howard and Weber didn't start out the season as the starting 5 of that team, but gelled together to become a team that went to back to back Finals.

Until Cal can take this class to the Finals then they are not the best freshman class in the history of college basketball. Sure it makes for great off and pre season headlines, but it's almost like the perfection thing.

Nothing is for sure until it happens.

Xavier Henry vs Jeff Withey • Nov 13, 2013 07:32 PM

@JRyman KU Sports has a photo that appears to prove you are right:

!pivotal play by Wiggins ↗

On the replay I watched the ref that was near the basket that made the call. He blows his whistle right as Parker starts to swipe at the ball, almost anticipating a foul. Then he indicates he got him on the head, but when I watch I don't see the contact.

But you know what, we deserve a call here or there. We are Kansas.

Nov 13: KU vs Duke Roundup • Nov 13, 2013 05:18 PM

I want to add this and not sure that it wasn't posted above, didn't read all the input but what I did was great.

Parker's foul on Wiggins' dunk was not a foul, I didn't think so when it first happened and I didn't on the replay either. When the whistle blew I was thinking they were going to call a travel or something ridiculous. Really you are going to foul their best player out of the game? And it's Duke?

These new rule changes have given the ref's a licence to make bad calls and be justified with them. It's almost like the NFL with replacement refs.

This game had more whistles in it than a jr high girls game.

As talked about in another post, A funeral for a friend. We talked about how these rules would kill the college game, while the NCAA says with the changes it will bring in more fans. Well the casual fan isn't going to be happy when the only plyer they know by name on the team, ie Wiggins, Parker, Randell are sitting on the bench in foul trouble. The die hard fans aren't going to be happy with the product because this isn't the game we fell in love with.

Don't get me wrong some change is good, the three point line, the shot clock keeping your jersey tucked in and so on are goo for the game.

If another person tells me the players are going to have to adjust their game, then they won't be the player that got them that scholarship. Sure Michigan St. proved they could change their style of play, for at least one game. Give Coach Izzo some credit for that. But what about Wisconsin fans and Bo Ryan's mug a palyer D? Do they have a deep bench? Can they change?

So with this all being said this new rule could help KU, they have a talented deep bench to go to when their starting 5 are in foul trouble. But what if you don't have a bench full of studs? Then what?

But as I get back to where I started, no matter how I look at it Parker did not foul and that's hard for me to say because i hate all things puke.

Xavier Henry vs Jeff Withey • Nov 13, 2013 05:04 PM

The image on the cover page of ESPN College BBall shows Wiggins dunking and being fouled by Parker.

Not to start anything and I'm glad the puke lost their best player, but that was not a foul. He never touched Wiggins. Sure he swiped for a block, but didn't get him on the arm or the body. This is the problem with the new rules, it is allowing refs to make bad calls, because they are to make a lot of calls.

Nov 13: KU vs Duke Roundup • Nov 13, 2013 04:33 PM

Duke excels in no travel calls.

It's funny cause it's true.

Nov 13: KU vs Duke Roundup • Nov 13, 2013 03:09 PM

I mentioned that KU would win close in the preview thread. I said it would come down to rebounding but more importantly they won the FT battle.

Sure Parker won the highlight battle over Wiggins, who cares. Wiggins played with in the team, with in himself and still scored 20 and made a huge shot on that step back.

I he doesn't get into ticky tack foul trouble early he might of had 30.

Speaking of fouls, the refs are so concentrated on calling them they aren't watching anyone's feet anymore. There were a ton of travels they missed. Parker actually did a two foot jump stop then he hopped before he shot it, which is a travel by the simplest of calls, but the ref was looking for contact up top.

Funeral for a Friend (Game of Basketball) • Nov 10, 2013 05:57 PM

It's been a slow death, for the game of college basketball. Even before they told kids they had to spend one year in college before they could go pro, the game was dying. No it wasn't obvious then, but looking back on it now one can see it.

Hind sight as they say has 20/20 vision, wish foresight was the same, but it is as blurry as an Iowa st. coaches eyes at a Missouri frat party.

Now I know some will think this is sac-religious, but Micheal Jordan changed the game for the worse. Remember when teams won games? Jordan ball emphasized clear outs, four guys standing off on one side of the court while he took his man one on one. Sure he could do it, but then every kid thought they could too. Let's be honest, not many can, especially when team defense steps up. Kids don't want to pass the ball (only in rare cases) they want to shoot it, even if they have to force a bad shot.

Why didn't the Fab5 win a title? They were all very good players. OK sure Chris Weber called a time out he didn't have, but whose to say he would have made a shot or even the right pass and that guy would have made a shot?? We don't know. But what I do know is that they got beat by a team, a team that played together better than that Fab5 did.

My hope for the game is this: I hope the refs are calling all these fouls now, so players get what is going to happen, but once bigger games start happening htey back off some of "touch" fouls that have been called this early. I also hope the get rid of the OAD rule an either don't have a rule and let a kid role the dice on his chances of making it or go to the college baseball rule and even the college football rule (they are very similar, ask Maurice Clarrett).

The game has good bones to support it for awhile, but it is the mind that needs to wake up and adjust, not to make the game more like the NBA, but to make it the college game.

I love this game and I hope and pray that it is still my favorite sports in the years to come and not some shell of what it once was.

@jryman Why Louisville? We couldn't even beat TCU!

Because KU would not have over looked L'Ville

If you put your effort and concentration into playing to your potential, to be the best that you can be, I don't care what the scoreboard says at the end of the game, in my book we're gonna be winners.

Lets not forget when we talk about how slow these freshman looked or they didn't live up to expectations in the exhibition games. Thats all they were, exhibition games.
I'm not worried about them even tonight if they come out a little scattered brain, big stage, brighter spot light on them, they just might be a little green and that's OK.
Let their game come to them and watch them explode in the near future.
Take it all with a grain of salt.

Joe Dooley vs. other assistants • Nov 07, 2013 07:54 PM

Coach Dooley was an east coast guy

He grew up in NJ, went to play ball at George Wash. and was a head coach at East Carolina.

So your definition of East coast guy is correct.

I worked at a place once that tried to block any and all websites the talked about sports, be it espn.com kusports.com any of them.
The reason they stated was because of the NCAA tourny and how much production was lost during that.
But living in Nebraska they changed their rule come August so people could keep up with their lil red.
Needless to say I only worked their for a short time. Haters

NCAA Drops the Ball on Rule Changes! • Nov 07, 2013 06:39 PM

NO!!!! Do not shorten the shot clock in the mens game. Unless you like the NBA where it's all clear outs and one on ones then no. Let teams run a set play, and run it until they get the shot they want to take. Let the defensive team work and playing D instead of sneaking back to get an easy dunk.
Lets not compare the mens game to the womens in the sense of rules. It was just last year they put in the 10 second backcourt violation into the womens game.

I would like a section for for story links, be it from KUsports.com, jayhawksslant or even espn.com. Justsome place you or us can just link to stories or even add them.
Condense all the searching the web of site jumping, just come to one place and "bam" there it is.

But man you are doing a great job, thank you

I was at a cross country meet for my daughter in Omaha this fall, now I have jaded her into being a Jayhawks fan and she wears a Jayhawk head ban when she runs. Free State High was up here fro the meet. Everywhere we walked, I too was wearing KU gear, we got "Rock Chalk" from random people. It wasn't untl lthey were running that I knew Free State was here, so I couldn't figure it out.

But love the way KU fans come together out of nowhere over a shirt, hat or even a head band.

Rock Chalk!

Awesome read, as per your norm.

I emailed KUsports about using real names, because when I signed up there years ago I used my real name, I had nothing to hide then as I do not now(OK I shortened it here to just JRyman, but you get the point). I did not get a response, not even a corporate thank you but to bad reply from them at all.

I go there ever so frequently now, just look, try to read a quick article answer my google question and move on. Barely read the post there as I know the people I was used to seeing day in and day out are not there anymore or as much.

This sight and Jayhawk Lounge are both good places to catch up with other Jayhawk fans.

I have to depend on the internet for anything KU related living up in Omaha. Sure ESPN has some WIggins up dates here and there, but for real news about the team day to day I have to go WWWing to find it.

I feel like if we keep going here or where ever we go to post and enjoy the banter between KU fans then We as fans will be ok. And as others come join us little by little we will be like the Phoenix rising from the ashes and having something we can truly be a proud part of.

Yeah I was guessing it was for last years content and not the recent past few weeks.

Oh well their award, we can't even talk about with them there.

Cliff Alexander Announcement • Oct 28, 2013 07:15 PM

I like knowing who is coming to KU, so please don't get me wrong when I say this.

I don't really worry about the recruits until they get to KU. Sure it's great when they pick KU over Kentucky or Duke, that's easy.

I like to worry about the guys on this years roster and how they are going to play. Bill Self has always brought in players that fit his style, and if they don't they end up at Gonzaga or some mid level school. He also finds guys that are a good fit for KU, and that goes all the way back to Larry Brown and Roy Williams.
