Come on people. MSU is likely the top team in the country. Of Course I don't like losing to anyone but there is no shame in losing to MSU, particularly when Valentine is/was playing out of his mind...which seems to the norm for him anymore.

What Can We Learn Tonight? β€’ Dec 05, 2015 01:45 AM

I watched the entire game and enjoyed every minute of it. UCLA force Kentucky into being an outside shooting team and they did not have good shooting night until the end when they connected on several 3s but by then it was too late and UCLA answered every time.

That tweet is not there anymore and it is obvious why. He claims that he could have helped with all the things that he has never before shown he can do. I am sorry but that post is silly and self-serving; however, I can see hwy you would think is great...

Edit: Sorry @JRyman, I thought I was replying to @AsadZ ...

@AsadZ

Can you please enlighten us about his tweet since there is nothing about it there now. You are trying to defend the indefensible, Brannen was way, way out of line, not only with the coaching staff but also with his fellow players and with some, if not most, other coaches he would have been gone from the team.

Of the 3, if I had a choice to keep just one, I would keep Zobrist; he was consistently key in the playoffs when it counted.

Diallo- First Impression β€’ Dec 03, 2015 08:41 PM

@HighEliteMajor

...well...his coach and teammates seem to think he does bring something "valuable" albeit no--quantifiable, I believe the term is "intangibles" and most teams in all sports have players like this, not that uncommon really. Look at players like Hinrich and Collison, to name two Jayhawks, if you look at their numbers you wonder why they are even playing but their teams see the "intangibles" they bring to the table and pay them big money to deliver.

According to Erich Segal, Tommy Lee Jones was also the real model for Love Story

Gore never attended UCLA, he attended Graduate Divinity School at first and then Law School at Vanderbilt University, the only school that would take him since he graduated in the bottom 20% of his class at Harvard. The family fortune was relatively modest (barely over 6 figures) and pales in comparison with the money he has made from the environmental causes he advocates and hugely profited from, there is a reason why he is called the "carbon billionaire."

Enough of Gore and back to KU basketball

Stop by any Auto Zone or Advanced Auto Parts store and they will read the codes for free. With this information you can determine what is the likely problem which in most cases is a faulty sensor or even a defective PCV valve that is inexpensive and simple to replace...in most cars. At the very least you will know what is the likely issue and you will be much better prepared to deal with the dealer/auto shop. who most of the time try to tell you the problem is much bigger.

Don't you hate when that happens? Fortunately for me, a shop opened up not to far from my home where you can rent garage bays with lifts by the hour; they also provide all the tools and power tools you need and access to the on-line repair guides and specs. and a mechanic that can help and advise as needed. You just have to know roughly how to do the repair and the lift alone makes most jobs a lot easier. I use it all the time now to maintain my cars and since I enjoy working on them it works great for me and saves me a lot of money.

When I first moved to my current home, Comcast was the only service available and the first time another became available I switched immediately, as did most of my neighbors. Last year, when I looked into switching back to Comcast (obviously due to %$@#@^*%' Zenger) I got so much conflicting information from everyone I talked, culmination with the rep. at the Olathe Office saying that their on-lime reps were idiots and did not know what they were talking about that I decided that was a firm I did not need doing business with. YMMV.

This Or That? β€’ Nov 30, 2015 09:43 AM

@DoubleDD

I am confused. You talk about putting it into perspective but you don't quite do it.

Currently, UCLA is relevant only as a memory to older people that remember the details of the memorable years of Wooden and the unbeaten streak, but the younger generation is only vaguely aware of the streak since it is often mention when teams have long unbeaten runs, in the same way that Indiana is mentioned as being the last team to go unbeaten in college basketball or the Dolphins in football; most don't have a clue about the details.

We live in a time when the current younger generation only cares about what have you done for me lately and their concept of history extend only a few years back and most cannot name the last 3 presidents. To this generation KU is not as relevant as Duke and the East Coast hype or UK and all the celebrities and rap stars associated with the program.

To the college basketball die hard fans, such as many member of this forum, which are in the minority, KU is the standard of continued excellence for the last 30 years. Keep in mind that to most, the Ted Owens years were very forgettable and the KU revival consists mostly of Coaches Williams and Self and most don't even remember Coach Brown and his short stint at KU.

All the big and small time analysts have mentioned KU's current conference title streak in the past year, and without exception, they all consider it a huge achievement. If KU sets a new record in conference titles, it will remembered in the same way the as the UCLA streaks are remembered.

As I mentioned before, if this would be KU's 4th or 5th title I can see preferring a NC, but at this point when KU is moving into hallowed territory and if it breaks the record, it will be remembered a lot longer and by a lot more people than one single NC title would.

Of course, this is just my opinion and as such, biased by my age and awareness and knowledge of the history of the sport.

Why Loyola,MD, or Getting to know GG β€’ Nov 30, 2015 03:45 AM

@Crimsonorblue22

Marshall is probably kicking himself for not leaving when he was a hot commodity; to his credit, he chose to stay with the player that brought the program back. Once Van Vleet is back they should be much better but realistically speaking, the perfect storm at WSU is pretty much over after this season.

This Or That? β€’ Nov 30, 2015 03:34 AM

I am very happy with the way the program has done and I would not change a thing. I root for one of the elite programs that is good year in and year out and more importantly, I can look at our record and history without having to hold my nose or look the other way...a lot more than UK or UConn or Syracuse or UNC fans, to name a few, can say.

Picking the mind of KU fans β€’ Nov 29, 2015 08:05 PM

When we talk about Conference title streaks we have to look at them in context. Let's face it, 40-50 years ago, when UCLA has it golden years, a few teams dominated college basketball and realistically, there were only a handful of teams capable of winning the title and they were head and shoulders above all others. Now, on any given day any of 200 teams can beat top 10 team and yes, it is an upset but not that unusual any more. The parity back then and what we have now is night and day. It is lot more difficult to maintain excellence year after year...remember UK, perhaps the most dominant program on the last few years, losing to Bobby mo in the NIT? Or UConn winning it a couple of years ago after not even being ranked in the top 20 going into the tournament and missing tournaments in between tittles?

Also, when we talk about Gonzaga, were are talking about a weak conference that routinely send at best 2 teams to the tournament where the Big 12 is consistently one of the top ranked conferences and the only one to sent 70% of its team to the dance.

If KU breaks the record for consecutive conference titles in the current environment, it will be considered one of the biggest accomplishments in sports ever...and most sports analysts have said that much.

...but the question was not winning the NCAA but making it to the Final Four with no guarantees...which may be like kissing ESPN Woman of the Year only to find out that she was really Bruce Jenner... :d

#DialloFreed β€’ Nov 28, 2015 10:47 PM

@ParisHawk

The amount of the penalty is not the same as the amount of the violation. As I understand, the penalty is based on the type and severity of the violation and...believe it or not...varies by sport.

I agree that the NCAA is apparently not the sharpest tool on the shed but they are not dummies either; they would not assess a penalty unless they have pretty convincing proof of the infraction. If the fines seem disproportionate as related to the offense, then the ADs need to change the guidelines the NCAA is required to follow. Zenger should make it his mission in life instead of screwing Jayhawk fans and having games blacked out,

Tyler Davis vs. Cheick Diallo β€’ Nov 28, 2015 10:05 PM

@HighEliteMajor

Self has focused on the opinion that Diallo is β€œraw.” Neither Wiggins, nor Embiid, were β€œraw.”

Embiid was indeed pretty raw when he came to KU but he is the biggest basketball "savant" I have seen and improved dramatically in a very short time. Can you think of another player that improved as much or as quickly as Embiid did? Diallo himself has stated that he is pretty raw and has a lot to learn before he is effective (see Media Day interview) and I don't believe he is the savant Embiid was, although I would love for Diallo to prove me wrong.

With Diallo, let’s look at what we have so far – really, all it has been is a disaster. It’s been a distraction. It’s been something that Self admitted was taking many hours in his day. It cost Kansas a lot of money fighting the NCAA.

All true, but there is also big upside that you did not mention. Recruits now know that KU will do what it takes and spend as much as needed to get them eligible. Not every top recruit is a Perry Ellis academically speaking; in fact, most are probably at the opposite end; knowing that KU will use its vast resources and deep pockets to fight for them has to help...don't you think?

LOYOLA (MD) GREYHOUNDS β€’ Nov 28, 2015 09:46 PM

@wrwlumpy

...so, the game is once again blacked out for most Jayhawk fans in the State of Kansas and we don't get to see the debut of Diallo...%$#%&&^%$ Zenger is got to go...

Picking the mind of KU fans β€’ Nov 28, 2015 09:31 PM

Interesting question but we have to look at the two event in context.

First, if KU does not win the conference, chances are it does not make it to the Final Four. As coach Self has said before, winning the conference gives you a better shot in the tournament starting with a better, more favorable seed and hopefully a better match-up, although I have to admit the Basketball Gods, i.e. Selection Committee has not done KU any favors lately; giving WSU such a low seed last tournament and forcing KU to play a heavily under-seeded team with a huge chip on its shoulder is a good example.

As far as Conference titles...if this would be KU's 3rd or 4th or 7th Conference Title...I would say take the Final Four; however, KU is about to make sports history and every analyst I have heard on the subject has indicated this would be one of the biggest accomplishments in all sports....so I would say that in context, the conference tittle would have a bigger and much more lasting effect than a Final Four appearance.
