New thinking on the O side of the ball • Nov 28, 2015 09:10 PM

I have been watching a lot of college basketball the entire week and every analyst at one time or another indicated that the best two front lines are Gonzaga and Vanderbilt, both with more than one capable legitimate 7 footer; KU actually outrebounded Vanderbilt 39 to 32 and 8 to 6 in ORs...not bad for a team that some claim cannot rebound.

@wrwlumpy

I believe he went 2-10 from 3...

D@mn Blackouts! • Nov 26, 2015 07:31 AM

@SoftballDad2011

...and women basketball is blacked out as well; this is why I believe this is got to be worst negotiated contract ever. Every MU and KSU basketball game has been available...KU games? not so much...pretty frustrating and also embarrassing for KU fans that have to put up with the comments from the feline crowd, i.e. tigers and wildcats...

@Lulufulu

Pretty standard procedure when there is a finding that he received improper benefits, not a big deal, really...

GREAT Win!! Wayne Selden says HELLO • Nov 26, 2015 07:01 AM

Selden played himself into near lottery territory and moving up...

Diallo is Cleared! Now what? • Nov 25, 2015 10:09 PM

I just don't see him having an immediate impact. He will gradually get more playing time and will have more of an impact in the second half of the season.

How about Cheick...the Malian LeBron...

The Word is Out • Nov 24, 2015 08:29 PM

@Makeshift

No disrespect intended. but what insight into the program do you exactly or actually have? TTBOMK, the closest thing to "insight" we have is @ralster who attended Coach Self camp and actually talked to the man...the rest, me included, only offer conjectures and WAGs. You are fairly new in this forum and a little early to tell other members -that have considerably more posts than you do- to go post somewhere else...don't you think?

Brannen Greene • Nov 24, 2015 04:40 PM

@JRyman

I watched several sports shows and many analysts seem to think that if he is indeed gone after the season, i.e. will get drafted, the he might not see the field again this season. Having said that, Meyer was very casual about Elliot and said that maybe he should have gotten more touches...if he needs him to win games he will play him; unlike other coaches Meyer is, like you said, all about his own record.

@drgnslayr

Brannen Greene is perhaps the best spot shooter in college basketball and will hit an ubber high percentage when wide open. The problem is that he cannot shoot with someone guarding him closely and he just cannot create his own shot/get himself open. The Conference teams know this and have some one play him close and he is render ineffective.

@DanR

That used to be a tradition...I guess that is a tradition no more. :(

I noticed a couple of flowers missing from Walton's lei...I imagine ol' Bill rolled himself a nice Hawaiian scented fatty and up in smoke they went... :d

Vanderbilt destroyed St. John's 92-55...

WF 50-45 over Indiana. Manning playing only 7 players in the fist half and one had only 4 minutes. Hopefully they don't dehydrate and cramp up.

I wonder....... • Nov 23, 2015 06:51 PM

@JRyman

If I would be a betting man, I would say that there are several meeting going on at the NCAA as we speak since the cat is out of the bag and the NCAA has a PR ticking bomb in its hands.

Self on ncaa • Nov 23, 2015 06:05 PM

@wrwlumpy

In all fairness that is true in all sports and businesses. Sponsors pay a lot of money to have their name prominent displayed and having someone else's product displayed does not sit well and probably involves legal liability if the organization being paid by the sponsor does not vigorously enforce the exclusive rights of the company that disbursed the sponsorship money.

Remember when Jim McMahon was fined $5,000 by the NFL for wearing a headband with the Adidas logo? He was not the first and certainly not the last one.

Brannen Greene • Nov 23, 2015 05:52 PM

@Crimsonorblue22

I agree with you. Coach Self's comment need to be taken in context. The famous...or should I day Infamous comment about the 3 being fool's gold was made referring more to "depending" on the 3 rather than using it, and he is right, the 3 can vary quite a bit from game to game where the more conventional inside scoring tends to be more even and reliable. Unfortunately, some will take comments out of context to fit their narrative, nothing really new there...standard fare in our daily lives and politicians and pundits make a living doing it.

@REHawk

I agree. I just don't see Self, or any major program coach for that matter, openly defying the NCAA.

"The NCAA is so mad at Kentucky they're going to give Cleveland State another year of probation." - Jerry Tarkanian

"Seahorn Zenger is so upset at the NCAA that he is going to take even more games away from TV watching KU fans.." JayHawkFanToo

When the parents of the player have to be called to the locker room, I would thing it was pretty dang serious. Greene's father did not appear to complain about the suspension. ↗

I played varsity sport in college and I know that if you have an issue, you take it up with the coach in his office and behind closed doors; back then, if you mouthed off to the coach like apparently Green did, you were off the team for good...but then, I did not play a major sport at a big program.

@Makeshift

And playing at the Dean Dome provides UNC a significant advantage.

And playing at Rupp arena provides UK a significance advantage.

And playing at Cameron provides Duke a significant advantage.

And playing at Hilton provides ISU a significant advantage.

...and water is wet....

There is a reason why it is called home advantage...

Paralysis By Analysis - The Self Dilemma • Nov 22, 2015 03:53 AM

@Bwag

Are you actually comparing the difference between Newtonian Physics and the Theory of Relativity as explained by Einstein with the evolution of college basketball over the lats 20 years? No offense intended but that is laughable.

The game of basketball has not changed hardly at all in the last 20 year other than pro players getting paid insane salaries, where the change in physics was a monumental change.

North Carolina • Nov 22, 2015 03:33 AM

You guys realize that MSU has votes to win the NCAA in the latest ESPN poll of college basketball analysts, right? During the game, they commented that this MSU team is better than the one from last year that made it to the Final Four...just sayin'

Yes, I wish we could have won and maybe we should have, but there is no shame in losing to a good MSU team. Not nearly as embarrasing as losing to Bobby MO in the first round of the NIT...

I tried so hard • Nov 22, 2015 03:27 AM

@DoubleDD

So...the current recruiting season is not even over and KU has already moved to the ash heap of college basketball history?

What if we end up getting Bolden or Thon Maker or Joe Jackson or Allen or Azuibuke or a combination...does KU rises from the dead like Lazarus?

Self vs Cal • Nov 22, 2015 03:18 AM

@Crimsonorblue22

Apparently starting their careers at KU did not take with Rupp or CAl... :(

Paralysis By Analysis - The Self Dilemma • Nov 22, 2015 03:17 AM

@DoubleDD

...and if he wins the whole enchilada fans will be saying how good he is and how well his system works...I guess its is just human nature...

Self vs Cal • Nov 22, 2015 03:14 AM

@nuleafjhawk

Cal fits perfectly the cheating mold that Adolph Rupp started at Kentucky and not the clean and proud tradition that Naismith and Phog Allen established at KU and every coach since then observed...

Paralysis By Analysis - The Self Dilemma • Nov 22, 2015 03:08 AM

@Bwag

Have you read some of the posts?

@DoubleDD

Questioning just about everything that Coach Self , one of the winningest coaches of all time, does is the equivalent of telling LeBron...how did you ever win all those MVP awards or Bill Gates...how did you ever became a billionaire? You have to admit that. much like Coach Self, they must have done things mostly right and not mostly wrong as some poster appear to indicate.

My point is not that we should not question his decision...but come on...he must be doing somethings right...right?

I tried so hard • Nov 22, 2015 02:57 AM

KU has been passed by, and left in the dust.

Really? The United States International University Sports Federation (US-IUSF) selected KU to represent the USA at the WUG just this past summer because it is the most consistently successful program in college basketball...

“We went through a pretty strong, long process to find the most appropriate team and Kansas was a great fit,” said Craig Jonas, the deputy head of the USA delegation in charge of selecting the representative, during a news conference Tuesday at KU. “When you walk the halls here, you realize what a great tradition Kansas has, and we’re ecstatic about having them there.”

Asked about the specific criteria that set KU apart, Jonas pointed to the Jayhawks’ five-year record — No. 1 in all of college basketball — plus preseason rankings, expected returners and last year’s RPI. A smaller, more speculative factor also played a role.

/sarcasm on

I guess someone should have told them that KU is now a has been...

/Sarcasm off

CHAMINADE SILVERSWORDS • Nov 22, 2015 02:31 AM

@Texas-Hawk-10

McGrath is part of the Row Williams coaching tree not Self. I really do not believe he would come to KU when he might well be in line for HC at UNC.

Paralysis By Analysis - The Self Dilemma • Nov 22, 2015 02:27 AM

Hmmm...If Coach Self is such a poor coach, one has to ask how in the world did he manage to win all those game at KU? I imagine what KU record would be if one of the posters in this forum would be the coach...I bet we go undefeated and win the NBA title to boot.

@Crimsonorblue22

He probably will black out all the games where Greene is eligible... :D

Insanity? • Nov 22, 2015 02:13 AM

I just don't see any scenario where Self goes to Duke, no way, no how, no ma'am. There are several former Duke players coaching college basketball and I suspect one of them would wend up at Duke...Amaker, Brey, Dawkins, Hurley, Wojciechowski... just to name a few, and they might even consider pretty boy Quin Snyder who is currently coaching the Utah Jazz in the NBA,

TarHeels Take a Fall • Nov 22, 2015 02:00 AM

@REHawk

Oh, yes. Them pesky Northern Iowa Panthers strike again...

Recruiting updates • Nov 20, 2015 07:32 PM

@Texas-Hawk-10

Only Duke (15-31) and UK (155-35) have a better record than KU (144-39) in the previous 5 years, teams like Michigan State (131-53) and North Carolina (136-47) lag behind. If you go 10 years, KU is at the top. No doubt that the OAD phenomenon has not helped KU and has done wonders for UK.

When you consider that KU"s SOS has consistently been in the top 3 and that the BIG 12 has been rated the top conference for the last 3 years, I would say KU is doing rather well, particularly when you compare our recruiting classes against the UK and Duke monster classes. Yes, there have been early exist in the Tournament but then UConn, a fairly average team with nowhere near the record of the others, has won it twice.

Traylor 7 rebounds in 18 minutes, Lucas 7 rebounds in 14 minutes...How many did you expect them to have in those minutes?

Kansas - Michigan State chat • Nov 18, 2015 05:41 AM

This is a very good MSU team, analyst were saying better than last year's Final four team. It got votes to win it all in the ESPN poll.
