Lots to look forward to next year. Lesson learned in the post season it takes intensity, and hustle.
@jaybate-1.0 Appreciate you. However, "Think next as soon as you can?" How about you rethink that? I love the game of basketball. Anyone that has played the game of basketball realizes that in the heat of battle "stats don't matter". To quote the former great boxing champion Mike Tyson "Everybody has a great plan....until they get hit"! Embrace that, my friend. It's March Madness for a reason. If it were as simple as drawing up plan and going out and executing based on statistics of the past, then I guess we would have an all Ivy League final? Games are decided on the court not by computers. It's always a pleasure talking hoops with you.
@sdkujn It all depends. If we win and he doesn't play, he will be plenty fresh for the next game.
@Crimsonorblue22 You nailed it!!
@Crimsonorblue22 I'll tell you this much, I am an Inspector.
Let's go Jayhawks, I am pumped up!!
@jaybate-1.0 "Head tracking talent distributions and strategies" that is exactly what gets so many on this board to near aneurism status when we struggle or lose in the tournament. It is not a computer generated game where stats mean everything. Stats don't mean (fill in the blank however you wish). Remember the UNI Game? They were a 9 seed with I believe a 28-4 record. First place in the Missouri Valley and the only team to represent the Conference in the NCAA Tournament. WSU finished second with over 20 wins and went to the NIT. So based on the numbers and the media, UNI has no chance against top seeded Kansas. The problem with that is over the course of the season UNI beat Boston College, Iowa, and beat Iowa State at Hilton. They had also blitzed through the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament winning each game by at least 15 points. However, we are Kansas and there was no way a team from the Valley could beat us in the tournament again. No way, after we lost to Bradley a few years back. The game starts and for KU fans it was oh (Sugar Honey Iced Tea) we're in trouble. They can't be this could, we can't be that bad, what in the world is going on. What was going on, was a team that was pretty decent got fired up, and told themselves, "they think they are better than us? No they are not. Let's kick their number one seeded..... ". And then it happened shots started falling from everywhere, their confidence was sky high. Even the big burly kid, cashed in three 3 point shots. We lost a game many to this day feel we should not have lost and continue to blame everyone they can think of for it. The reason we lost? Pretty simple, they were a much better seed than 9 and they scored more points than we did.
Why are there so many first round upsets? Answer: In the mind of the players that are actually on the court competing, there aren't any. No player that is good enough to play D-1 ball walks in to any court thinking they are going to lose. It is us, the fans along with the media that create these false images that certain teams cannot be beat. Throw in a seed next to a team and you have a recipe for disaster.
@Crimsonorblue22 Could not agree more.
@jhawkintexas An awful way to lose a tournament game.
@JayhawkRock78 Niceπ
@JayhawkRock78 You and me both! What an outstanding jam!,
@HawksWin Were Wayne's random thoughts before or after that one handed monster dunk he had against Iowa State?
Great to see Wayne Selden Jr. have great games during the Big XII Tournament. Equally great (to me anyway) was watching his family cheer him on. I believe he is a young man that wanted to not only come to college to get better, but also get an education. If he stays one more year, he will be in a great position to earn a degree from The University of Kansas. Now how great is that? I posted over and over during the course of the season that "Wayne Selden Jr. is a starter". I knew it then, and I know it now. I think he will continue to get better, much better.
@KUSTEVE With this year's team, just because you sit the bench, does not mean you can't play. We have lots of talent and it is starting to come together.
It's great to see Lucas and Mickelson get meaningful minutes. I believe Cliff would be coming on strong as well if he were playing.
Outstanding! Congratulations Coach Self.
@drgnslayr This is fun! Ding Ding Round 2. TRob was one of a kind! I hope you are right, however!
@nuleafjhawk Agree 100%.
@drgnslayr Thanks. I can see what you mean by he can overrun the ball sometime. He may be a victim of having such a great motor. I know the mistake I made when I first saw him was thinking he could be the next T-Rob. That probably won't happen. I love the way he has improved on the offensive end lately. As far as after his career at KU, there is a lot of money to be made overseas playing basketball. 6 to 7 figures is nothing to sneeze at. I believe he will receive a strong endorsement from Coach Self and earn a living playing ball and also have that Degree from the University of Kansas. Not bad for a young man that used to live in a car. I think he will be a stud his Senior Year.
@drgnslayr What exactly would you coach him up on if you had time with him. Maybe I am missing something?
@drgnslayr I believe Jamari Traylor is playing exactly the way he has been coached to play. He does not take plays off, is constantly in motion, and contributes despite not being one of the top 7 options on this team. I think his "Basketball IQ" is fine. He fits Coach Self's system.
@DCHawker I get your point. My point is this. There is no way he can dominate on the boards, if he is nowhere near the basket. Jamari spends the majority of his time away from the basket. He is setting screens and boxing out defenders. His role on the team does not allow him to hang around the basket and collect rebounds.
@Crimsonorblue22 Thanks. Sometimes the game can be more than the box score. Speaking of box score he was also 5-6 from the field and 2-2 from the free throw line. Traylor balled!!!
@drgnslayr Why are you bashing Jamari? He could have easily gotten credit for 3 more rebounds. Instead of grabbing a rebounding he slapped the ball forward to Svi. He had another rebound in his hand, but the OU player was laying half in and out of bounds causing the ref to blow the whistle. He also grabbed a rebound at the same time as Mason III and released the ball to the point guard. That's 3 boards right there, and this all happened in the first 7 minutes of the game. You say he needs to be coached up? Really? What I saw yesterday when I watched the game, and then I watched it a second time based on your comments, was a player that played his heart out and has plenty of "Basketball IQ". Jamari is often called on to set screens at the foul line for the guards. He is also called upon to fall back when the guards penetrate to the basket to prevent the opponent from getting a run out. When he is on the boards he attacks and gives maximum effort. He posted 12 points, 2 boards, 2 blocks, and a steal yesterday. He also fouled out attempting to block a shot. He guarded OU's big man Tyshawn Thomas and held him to 13 points and 6 rebounds. He did a phenomenal job keeping him off the glass. Thomas is 6'8" 240 and Jamari Traylor is 6'8" 220. He was given the assignment of guarding their big man and not Lucas or Mickelson. You are one of my favorite posters, but I have to disagree with you on this one.
@Crimsonorblue22 You get no argument here.
@PakaRocks It had to be something. Refs had to be distracted.
@cragarhawk Good point. I have to agree with you. Thanks.
@brooksmd Right you are!!
@Bwag I think the refs got caught up watching the game. Oh well.
@Bwag I thought he took took big steps and then stutter stepped as he was releasing the ball. Looked like a travel to me.
Another game lost by a traveling call, wow! Proud of this team!
This team has heart.
What a play!
What an effort. We have talent and heart!
Quick two or three?
Wow, that's what I call heart!!
Tough break, way to get on the glass though.
OU crowd is week. No emotion.
What a shot by Graham!
@Crimsonorblue22 For sure!
@Crimsonorblue22 I appreciate your honesty!!!
I think Lucas and Mickelson have proved they can provide minutes when necessary. Svi has gotten a little stale on the bench, but I think he will be okay, as soon as he gets one to go down.
@Crimsonorblue22 Relax, 3 players out, a fourth with a bum ankle. We are holding our own.
@brooksmd Enjoy the ride!!
Nice tear drop Graham.
Over the back!
@brooksmd I'm sure it was. I missed it.
5 seconds, Damn!
@brooksmd What are you talking about? I have never ever seen a Jayhawk commit a foul. Never!!!
