We got em right where we want em!
Lets go Svi. This is your opportunity!!!
Coach Self has set this season up very well. We are flying under the radar. We have to be the hardest team to scout. We have a Five Star Recruit in Alexander, that no one has really seen. We have bigs in Lucas and Mickelson, that rarely get minutes. Maybe they both can really ball. Can't recall either of them going over 30 minutes in a game? We have excellent outside shooting, but will we use it? Perry Ellis is our go to man, I guess? Is he or isn't he? Maybe it's Frank Mason? Jamari Traylor can take over in stretches. Graham can take over in stretches, Selden Jr. can take over in stretches. Oubre can dominate in stretches. We have seen Svi knock down multiple 3 pointers and distribute great passes. The NCAA Tournament has a lot to do with scouting. This year, the Kansas Jayhawks are about as hard to scout as any team I have ever seen.
The NCAA Tournament is not a tournament of the best teams in its current format. The tournament would be better served if it were a 32 team tournament, without play in games. Teams that have losing records are allowed into the tournament. They do not belong. It waters down the tournament. Would this ever happen in NCAA Football? Hell no. I am proud of Kansas and the 11 consecutive Big XII Titles. I am proud of the 5 Elite 8 appearances posted by Coach Bill Self. The Big XII has posted quite a few Elite 8 appearances over the past 10 years. Off the top of my head, Baylor, K-State, and Iowa State have all made it that far in recent years. Over 300 teams compete each year for the right to win it all. No one is going to win it every year. Anyone thinking that, is in for a lot of heartache.
I don't know about two losses, but they would have one for sure. It would be a forfeit against KU, because they refuse to come to Lawrence.
@drgnslayr My prediction for March. It does not matter!! I will be back next year regardless. I love the Kansas Jayhawks! A loss does nothing to my love of KU Basketball, absolutely nothing. I love the fact that we are a model of consistency, 11 Straight Big XII Championships. The NCAA Tournament is fun to watch, but it is not a best of the best tournament. It is the complete opposite of the current NCAA Football Championship, where only the best teams get in. My opinion, everyone can have theirs, not changing my mind.
So I guess Coach Self knows what he is doing? I am glad he is our coach! All games matter and the Conference Championship is very important! Each player on the court tonight showed why Coach Self recruited them to Kansas!
KU Ball
Doink
Send em home Tray
...and they say Selden can't pass?
TOP 10,
Big Tray!!

Wow!
Incredible feat by Coach Bill Self and all the great student athletes. Haters going to hate!
Teams can't scout us come tournament time. We are capable of adjusting our game to any situation. And yes. We can even go big with our ELM street lineup in the paint, that's Ellis, Lucas, and Mickelson. We have options. We can block shots, we can survive getting our shot blocked. We can rebound, we can run, we can guard, we can get in the passing lanes, and we can shoot. Oh yeah, I almost forgot, 11 Time Big XII Champs!
@drgnslayr Graham can create his own shot off the dribble. He has a pretty nice mid range game.
@drgnslayr 3 steps is a travel. Same as Staten in the WVU game.
This is the perfect game for Kansas. It's the time of year where every game is a dogfight. this is one of the most resilient Kansas basketball teams I have ever witnessed. I have seen some of the Jayhawk teams that could blow teams out, but could not win grind it out tough games. Today was a grind it out battle. It was exactly what Kansas needed. It felt like a round of 32 tournament game. Great to see we have capable big men on the bench, men who are not afraid to step up when called to duty. The way Coach Self has played the team this season, we will be one very hard team for opponents to scout come tournament time.
Execution, plain and simple. Missed lay ups and 2-13 from 3 point line. That is why we lost the ball game. Teams have to make lay ups and knock down closer to 30% of 3 pointers on the road. Nice game Perry Ellis.
Double Dribble on KSU.
Oh My Greene!!
Shake it off Brannen
Selden with the Grown Man Slam
Great pass Lucas
Cliff can't get a break.
@icthawkfan316 Excellent post. What's the point of watching 30+ Kansas Basketball games and not being able to enjoy the many wins we experience each year. Just think if we make it to the final game next year. That would be 2008, 2012, and 2016. That seems pretty successful to me. Of course we want to win it all every year, but the format of the tourney is not designed for that.
@icthawkfan316 Nice positive post. The season is far from over. Once again Coach Self keeps our program in the conversation. Some appreciate this feat others obviously don't. Hopefully, everyone, including Cliff will continue to get better and we can make a run in the tournament.
@truehawk93 Thanks. I cannot speak as to whether he is selfish or not. I do think he is young and will develop footwork and discipline in time. Once he does, watch out!
In the Bill Self era, there has only been a single One and Done Player. That player was Andrew Wiggins. The one player from start to finish that Coach Self and the fan base knew would be here for one year and one year only. Others have left after one year, but was that Coach Self's plan for them, when he brought them in? Before anyone says Embiid, Coach Self often talked about what he would be in year two. Embiid was brought to KU for two years, however it didn't happen. Cliff has shown flashes, but doesn't he remind you of a young Thomas Robinson? An absolute beast, that couldn't stay out of foul trouble his first two years When TRob figured it out, it was hell for all opposition. The same can happen with Alexander. It takes time, but his day is coming. Also, think of Frankamp last season. He couldn't get on the court last year. Yet, in the Stanford game, Coach Self turned him loose, and he nearly bailed us out of that game with an excellent performance. Don't forget about Cliff. His time may be coming real soon, but if it happens next year, and he dominates like Thomas Robinson, is it such a bad thing?
@wissoxfan83 Possibly π
The thing I like about this year's team is, you never know. You never know if this team will blow an opponent out or get blown out. You never know who is going to be the leading scorer in any particular game. That includes Cliff Alexander. He is capable of leading the team in scoring and rebounding on any particular night. I don't think his problem is his play. I think his problem is he is not the focal point. Probably since the first time he ever played organized ball, he has been the focal point. A starter, that the offense revolves around. A player that doesn't have to think about whether to shoot, dribble or pass. The answer was always simple, do whatever I want, the way I want and dominate everybody doing it. I believe if this young man is given the green light and told, just go out there and rebound and stuff everything in sight, he can be himself. That probably will not happen, because Coach Self is going to teach him the game of basketball and all of it's little nuances, and that will take time. So, as we enter the NCAA Tournament, and teams begin to scout us, who can they focus on. Answer: No one. We have too many weapons this year and anyone can get hot during any given game. Graham was living proof of that today.
@wrwlumpy Excellent point!!
@wissoxfan83 Yes. I watched the entire game. He was not the worst. He got himself in excellent position to score. He just flat out missed two easy shots. Not sure if you could have gotten 3 shot attempts, but I believe in you too!
