WSU going to the AAC • Apr 07, 2017 03:38 PM

@Crimsonorblue22 Yea, about $2m per school until 2020. They also make more money because they have more tourney success and that pays pretty well. MVC would be lucky to get $500k for each school.

Any word on the Lawson brothers?

From what I read on the Shiver, it may be worth any baggage they bring. Some stud recruits coming down the line in that family. 2 brothers and 2 cousins or something crazy like that. And all 5* recruits...

WSU going to the AAC • Apr 07, 2017 03:28 PM

@Crimsonorblue22 Yes. They make barely any TV money. So Memphis, Houston, Tulane, UCF and UConn would like to leave if at all possible. The others are kind of stuck where they are.

3 Generations of Bill • Apr 07, 2017 03:26 PM

@REHawk Why would it be a rebuilding year? We will still have 3 McDAA and Vick at the very very least. I expect Cunliffe to be a very solid piece to the rotation too.

Recruiting Master Thread Part Deux • Apr 06, 2017 08:04 PM

@BShark where are you hearing that?

Another QB Conundrum? • Apr 06, 2017 06:55 PM

@JayHawkFanToo And a 5* recruit coming out of high school. I meant him as an example in the NFL. But thanks for taking that so literally. We all know that you are the smartest person ever, so you know that you don't actually have to try to prove every single person on here wrong.

Another QB Conundrum? • Apr 06, 2017 06:12 PM

@jayballer54 He was a 2* recruit. His only other D1 offer being UConn. He clearly was evaluated as not having D1 arm talent. Running the air raid takes a lot more arm talent than anything else. I like Stanley's grit, but sometimes grit isn't going to cut it. Just look at Tebow.

Bragg is leaving • Apr 06, 2017 04:08 PM

Not going to lie, I teared up a little realizing I won't get to see that goofy smile next season.

Another QB Conundrum? • Apr 06, 2017 03:53 PM

@stoptheflop QB is a huge part. It limits playcalling if we trot out a guy with a limp noodle for an arm again. It isn't about not turning the ball over this year. Who cares if you throw a pick 45 yards down the field? As good as a punt. Let it fly and let it fly often. We need to start scoring in the mid and upper 20s if we every want to have a shot to win multiple games in the Big XII.

Straight up, if Bender has a rocket arm he needs to play. Dink and dive isn't going to win games. Just keep us in them longer.

Having an legit deep ball threat changes the entire game. Safeties have to play 12-15 yards back instead of only 8 or 9. You have to put in extra DB's to run cover 2 because the linebacker can't cover the slot receiver on a post or corner. You have to put in smaller quicker DL in order to put pressure on the QB so he can get rid of it faster. All of those things open up the run game. When the defense has to defend 50 yards instead of 15, It really opens up the entire playbook. So whoever is the best at 50 yard passes needs to play if you ask me.

Let the firings begin • Apr 06, 2017 02:51 PM

@BShark That is a scary recruiting tandem

Another QB Conundrum? • Apr 06, 2017 02:48 PM

@jayballer54 I didn't say just turn it over to anybody. I'm just saying it doesn't bode well for us if we can't get someone in here to beat out Stanley.

Another QB Conundrum? • Apr 05, 2017 09:31 PM

@stoptheflop Well I hope it isn't Stanley. He could surprise me, but I seriously doubt it. If he starts we are in trouble still. Obviously I hope I'm very very wrong. But I expected Bender or Starks to come out and take the job. And take it pretty easily.

Recruiting Master Thread Part Deux • Apr 05, 2017 09:25 PM

@JayHawkFanToo So Pastner hired their dad to land them both. And then Tubby demoted the dad. So it seems as though Tubby caused some relationship issues or something. So if Pastner was still at Memphis Dedric would probably be playing a 3rd year at Memphis instead.

Sounds kind of like Porter's situation. Using his son's to try and skip the line and all the hard work it takes to become a really good coach at that level.

Recruiting Master Thread Part Deux • Apr 05, 2017 09:08 PM

@JayHawkFanToo You mean sit for one year and not play a game? Or sit for one year and play one year?

If he sits one year and plays one year and then leaves, I'm totally ok with that. Because it means he had a helluva season.

Game #2 - Twins 12:10 PM • Apr 05, 2017 08:35 PM

@Crimsonorblue22 Me either, just following the stats...

Game #2 - Twins 12:10 PM • Apr 05, 2017 08:12 PM

So... Strahm isn't going to be a guy this year. And well Karns giving up 4 ER sure isn't a great start. Time to make a bullpen move already... But who knows who the hell is available out there. What could we get for Colon, Cuthbert or Orlando?

Game #2 - Twins 12:10 PM • Apr 05, 2017 07:35 PM

What in the heck is Karns doing in? I thought he was supposed to be our 5th starter? Unless we are skipping his first start because of the day off? Want to get him some work maybe...

Recruiting Master Thread Part Deux • Apr 05, 2017 06:22 PM

@BShark Can't believe it. Such a mediocre coach, but he must have a way with words. I'm so curious as to what he sells these kids on. Its like Calipari. Just so curious as to how their pitch is always better than everyone else's.

Something tells me Cuonzo will be due for some sanctions problems soon enough. His recruiting ability is too good to be true.

Recruiting Master Thread Part Deux • Apr 05, 2017 06:18 PM

@BeddieKU23 @BShark No brainer for both of those Memphis kids if they want to come here right?

Recruiting Master Thread Part Deux • Apr 05, 2017 06:13 PM

@BeddieKU23 Mizzou made the right call at the right time with Anderson if that is the case. Was Mizzou in on him at the beginning? Or is this some Cuonzo sweet talk going on?

Recruiting Master Thread Part Deux • Apr 05, 2017 05:52 PM

He would be a great backup center to have though... he would get PT here

Recruiting Master Thread Part Deux • Apr 05, 2017 05:46 PM

I bet Duke and U.K. Get involved

Recruiting Master Thread Part Deux • Apr 05, 2017 05:46 PM

Tilmon request his release from Illinois.

@wrwlumpy Found it. The 1 hour and 3 minute mark...

@wrwlumpy 1:03 on the video or 1:03 time wise? And what half?

@BShark Remember when people thought this last year was Bolden or bust. And some people were upset we even took Doke. HCBS looks genius now... Doke should be a double double machine if he can stay on the floor next season.

Game #2 - Twins 12:10 PM • Apr 05, 2017 04:04 PM

Ian Kennedy (3.94) vs. Hector Santiago (3.84 ERA)

  • 1 - Gordon - LF
  • 2 - Moose - DH
  • 3 - Cain - CF
  • 4 - Hosmer - 1B
  • 5 - Perez - C
  • 6 - Orlando - RF
  • 7 - Cuthbert - 3B
  • 8 - Escobar - SS
  • 9 - Mondesi - 2B

Main notes, pitching matchup is fairly even. Cuthbert playing against the lefty instead of Moss. I think we should have kept OBrien just for this situation. Platoon him with Moss against Lefties and platoon Cuthbert with Moose against Lefties as well. I also like Cuthbert batting in the 2 spot better than Moose. But I'm done complaining about the lineup. It's better than yesterday's.

I would have loved to see what Hudy was doing with him during the season. I wonder if she is just keeping it a secret. I didn't see any instagram posts from her. I could have missed one though.

Recruiting Master Thread Part Deux • Apr 05, 2017 03:28 PM

@BShark I think at this point it is a "take what you can get" move. If we don't see much that can help us this year, it is time to start thinking about the next year. No sense in letting a guy who can really play go just because it means we have 8 guards. Especially with the shift in basketball away from size. Maybe Bill is just buying into the 4 guard lineup because it is easier to land guards than post players. At least that is what it has felt like lately....

Bragg - Thoughts and Feelings? • Apr 05, 2017 02:26 PM

@jaybate-1.0 More like Bill Self is a tough coach to play for, for players with thin skin.

Game #1 - Twins 3:10 PM • Apr 04, 2017 09:50 PM

@brooksmd Well hell, while we are at it, the lineup is a little off too if you ask me. 6 all or nothing guys followed by 3 guys that don't look like they could hit a HR playing slow pitch softball. And literally in that order. If the lineup stays as is, expect a lot of solo HRs and a lot of 2 or 3 run games. Won't be pretty.

@jaybate-1.0 Vegas being involved would make sense for the biggest month they have of the year. Definitely would explain UNC, UK and UCLA being a 1,2,3 in the same region. Easily the 3 games that were most bet on in the tourney.

Recruiting Master Thread Part Deux • Apr 04, 2017 06:38 PM

Who are we in on in the 2018 class? I don't expect us to get Bagley, Langford or Zion. Only names I've heard are Grimes and Dotson. Haven't heard good things about post players and we need some of those.

Recruiting Master Thread Part Deux • Apr 04, 2017 06:25 PM

@JayHawkFanToo I'm just afraid that Garret may have literally grown out of that spot. Being 6'7 and spending two years with Hudy will probably make him more of a 2 or 3.

And, worse case scenario, we are adding a phenomenal practice body (compared to some of the walk-ons we've had lately) and a sharpshooter for some offensive spark on occasion. Well worth a 12th or 13th scholarship.

Recruiting Master Thread Part Deux • Apr 04, 2017 05:56 PM

@JayHawkFanToo Thomas Allen is ranked 81 on ESPN. Low end 4 star. A solid pickup if he can shoot as well as he did in HS and run some PG. Would be a great combo with a guy like Jacobs. And HCBS obviously likes running two points if he can.

this blows! • Apr 04, 2017 03:43 PM

KU overachieved this year after Doke went down. Bill did an amazing job using what he had. And I think he took a giant step forward as a coach this season that we will see come to light next year when we have depth.

I like to compare Bill to Roy. Because they are both All-Time greats and have now coached at KU basically as long as each other.

!RoyvsBill.JPG ↗

To me this shows that HCBS has been better than Roy Williams while he was at KU. Bill has a better winning percentage. Bill is 7-2 in the Sweet 16 vs. Roy's 5-4. Bill is 1/2 in NC championship games. Roy is 0-2. Roy didn't win his first NC until he was in his 17th season as a head coach and 55 years old. And now he has won 3 in 11 seasons. Bill can do the same.

Game #1 - Twins 3:10 PM • Apr 04, 2017 03:10 PM

So I guess the bullpen could possibly be an issue this year...

Game #1 - Twins 3:10 PM • Apr 03, 2017 09:47 PM

I bet that Dayton is kicking himself for not resigning Santana. Twins got him for pretty cheap, considering the numbers he has been putting up.

Game #1 - Twins 3:10 PM • Apr 03, 2017 08:39 PM

@brooksmd anyone square the ball up?

That Salvy - Moss back to back combo is going to be a double play nightmare all season.

Bragg - Thoughts and Feelings? • Apr 03, 2017 08:22 PM

@BeddieKU23 I would like to see us have the bodies for a traditional lineup and make substitutions in the flow of the game. Lets wear a team down with Hi-Lo and then bring in fresh ponies off the bench and run them to death. A little bad cop good cop.

With this teams depth next year, I would like to see us feed the post early and try to get the opponents best Big man in foul trouble. Then follow that up with an all-out Press with 4 guards and Preston at the 5. Between Cunliffe, Garrett, Vick, and Svi we are so long and athletic. We could really get after people.

As much as depth was a weak spot last season, it will be a strength next year. Providing we keep everyone still currently on the roster.

Game #1 - Twins 3:10 PM • Apr 03, 2017 06:05 PM

@brooksmd Hosmer did hit .385 in the WBC and Salvy hit .285. So neither of those look as bad. Moose is still concerning to me. I hope we platoon him with Cuthbert for lefty matchups until Moose definitely gets his groove back.

Game #1 - Twins 3:10 PM • Apr 03, 2017 04:32 PM

I'm gong to try to keep an eye on it at work.

Duffy vs. Santatana

  • Gordon - LF
  • Moose - 3B
  • Cain - CF
  • Hosmer - 1B
  • Salvy - C
  • Moss - DH
  • Orlando - RF
  • Escobar - SS
  • Mondesi - 2B

I am more than happy to see Gordo leading off instead of Escobar. Gordon will actually take a pitch or two and walks about 10X more than Esky. I hate Moose as the 2nd hitter because he can't run or steal a base. Rather see him switched with Hosmer or Orlando. That way if we have 2 outs and they are on 1st, we can try to swipe a bag and get in scoring position. But Ned does what Ned does and somehow it works. I also don't like putting Orlando, Esky and Mondesi b2b2b. Not a lot of pop out of those 3. Would rather put Orlando up a spot or 2 and let him get on base with someone who can drive him in behind him. But again, Ned does as Ned does.

Anyways, here is to the start of what should be a special season. We should savor what time we have left with this core unit.

Bragg - Thoughts and Feelings? • Apr 03, 2017 04:25 PM

The once loved freshmen with a great smile and surprising Piano skills took a sharp and unexpected turn his Sophomore year and struggled mightily. He had both off and on court issues. He lost his beautiful mid range jump shot and was a huge disappointment, as many thought he may be the leading scorer at the beginning of the season. That was followed up by two separate off-court issues that showed CB was distracted to say the least. And that was capped off with him being benched the last game of the season.

So, now we have to wonder where Bragg will be next season. Do we as fans even want him on our team? Do we feel he still has value? Can he turn the corner and become a great basketball player?

Personally, I want him to stay. I think he has all of the good things we saw from him that freshmen year somewhere. He just needed a wake up call. A reminder that the NBA isn't just a given for him. That it can all be taken away with one poor decision. By hanging out with the wrong people. And, that is why I want him to stay. He saw what could happen if he isn't focused and works hard. And if he can put in the work he needs to this summer, Bragg will be one of the great Bigs to come through the KU program under Self. I hope he stays, and we see that smile another year or two.

KU Buckets Go Fund Me Campaign • Mar 31, 2017 03:56 PM

@approxinfinity Can you send a mass email to all users for this?

You should. Nobody should expect you to cover the costs. And it would be nice to see just how many years we can get out of one go fundme page if everyone just put in $20.

@jaybate-1.0 UK fans are definitely frustrated. Many are starting to doubt Cal for that exact reason. Every year they get the top end talent and they don't bring home the gold.

It has lead to delusional thinking on the part of several fans. Instead of seeing that Cal is a poor in-game coach, they point to referees in almost every game that they have a poor performance. They believe the NCAA is out to get them. They believe that when they don't land a recruit, it was because Cal didn't want them actually. They believe that their championships in the 40s and 50s were legit, despite the fact that they were clearly in the middle of a points shaving scheme and players were promised the world. Those teams were almost as dirty as the UCLA teams in the 70s. Not to mention, they laugh at schools who covet Helm's championships despite the fact the tournaments in the 40s and 50s were 8 teams to start and they usually played in the worse of the two available tournaments. And the most laughable is that they think Cal is squeaky clean, despite having wins vacated at his two previous schools. They are the definition of a delusional fan base.
