Photos from Ft Hays State game. • Nov 12, 2013 03:03 PM

Yep, I know, at this point this game is old news. I'm a tad bit uhhh prone to procrastination. I got about 100 shots. Most are from the game, some are from around inside AFH proper. Lets see if Michael is competent enough to post these photos after being up all night at work shall we?

Did you see Wigs' spin move for a bucket? Man, that kid is lightning fast. Agreed he could have scored a bit more but hey, this was a warm up game.

They let me in and Ive got a Canon EOS. Apparently its ok to bring them in. No one said I couldn't have it or use it during the game.

Oh cool! Good to know. I just got back from the game not long ago. TOok dozens of shots. I think at least a few of them turned out ok. I will post them as soon as I can.
Good game by the way.

actually I meant Sweep, not sweet. LoL shaking my head

So I guess I am a bit wishy-washy on my total losses this year for KU. I truly believe we will beat Duke. Mostly by the new rules giving us FT's from Duke's flopping and body checking, and giving Duke foul trouble.
If I think we will sweet OU and ISU this year, where should the 7 losses I think we will sustain come from? WE WILL at least tie for a 10th straight conf. championship. If Rush and Rio &co can do it as freshmen, then this team can Absolutely do it too. Come on guys.

never doubt Bill Self JayDoc. I do however think this team has a larger margin for error than we all think. That being said, we ARE beating Duke. We will sweep OU and ISU. Road losses don't look good in the selection committees eyes and I don't see KU getting anything less than a 2 seed. Well, its what my magic 8 ball says anyways.
PS. call me JaynurseRN. Rock Chalk!

Andrew White looks like T-Rob in that photo! He is ripped this year.

KUAthletics: KU vs. Fort Hays State • Nov 04, 2013 05:08 PM

Absolutely! If Wigs can show he has improved with his handles, his drive to the lane plus his spin move... It will be unstoppable. No one will be able to guard it.

That Brandon Rush quote • Nov 04, 2013 05:03 PM

Man, that cracks me up! LOL! Its right along with the one where he and a few other guys were late for curfew. Coach asked them why and B.Rush said," Coach, because the club was craka-lakin!" Or something similar to that. Freekin hilarious.

Man, your guess is as good as mine. That sounds plausible though. But, if they have been playing with contact in highschool for 4 years then they could have just as much trouble adjusting as the other guys. At KU, I think it will depend on something like whoever can slide the fastest with out drawing contact and keep their man in front of them will adjust quicker, drawing less fouls. But I'm not certain.
Variation among states? Same thing. I've no idea. I bet the refs will have a bunch of variation early.

About Kentucky... • Nov 02, 2013 07:13 PM

Sorry about the double post, I did this in the Bball stories. I just wanted some more exposure :)
Its interesting to me to see the hype surrounding other high elite major schools. Kentucky seemingly had no problem beating down on a div 3 school and the journalists are drinking up that cool aide like its going to run dry. This article speaks to their difficulties on offense, but just barely. My question is this, how can such an alleged talented team only score 76 points against a div III school be ranked higher than KU or Louisville or Michigan St? No. Speaking of the latter team, they are loaded with talent and experience. Kentucky is going to have to play years ahead of their current experience level to even stand a chance against the Trojans in the Champions Classic game. There is a very good chance they will receive a pretty good beating and go home with their kitty tails between their legs.
On the other side of that match up is KU vs Duke. Imo, both teams are young, both teams are talented. It will be a closer and much more exciting match up. KU will not have a problem with offense this year. They almost dropped a century against instate div II team Pitt state? ( To be honest, I watched the game but I was at a bar with friends and most of what I did see was blurred by beer goggles) But, I digress. The biggest question about KU against Duke to me is, can KU shut Duke down on the perimeter? That is seemingly where Coach K is going to get most of his offense this season, from what Ive read, plus KU's bigs are bigger than Duke's this year. Big edge inside to KU, pun intended.
Back again to my ranking question, should KU be ranked #5 or 6? Probly not. I kind of like Keegan's ballot putting KU at #9. I still don't think Kentucky should be ranked higher because they have many more unknowns. Sure they are the #1 class but that doesn't translate into games won all the time.
Either way, check out this article and tell us what you think!

ESPN - Power Rankings 5-1 • Nov 02, 2013 07:01 PM

Man, actually I have that exact line up as my way to early final four prediction.

I just remember KU's 08 season. 37-3. Biggest win total for KU Bball.

Idk, I thought it was 40 games total. My bad.

Yah, that is our major point of weakness right now, defending under the new rules. I don't doubt that Coach Self will have our guys ready to defend at a Div I level soon enough, and for certain by Conference time. I mean, we have the height, length and quickness to defend extremely well but now everyone has to do it differently. Its going to take some adjusting to.
I hope we can figure it out before Duke can because we'll have to play then in what, 12 days?

There is only 40 games in a season everyone. I want KU to get to and win the NC but Im going to guess a bit under that. So Im thinking more along the lines of 32-7

Hell no they didn't engage like that before. They just wrote their regurgitated story from another site who got to it first or re wrote the same story about Coach Self's press conference from a different angle. Now, they are actually commenting more often and engaging with the replies. Im still not posting on that site anymore.

Educational request • Oct 28, 2013 05:17 PM

Hey everyone, I was wondering if some of our more experienced posters on here, , who have been watching the sport and probly coaching hoops for quite some time would be willing to post an obscure rule or play on offense or defense for people like myself, for example, I have been a fan since '88 but I have only recently really started to study the game and how it is played on both ends of the court, say about '06 or '07 is when I really started to learn more. There are still a few rules I don't understand and Im still learning to see the difference between motion, spread, Princeton, high-low offenses etc. Same goes for defenses. So yah, I can read up on this stuff all I want but I would enjoy another resource very much. Especially if it could be tied to a KU game that I can dvr and watch more than once. Im more of a visual learner so it would help more.

I kinda agree Blown. It is getting kinda ummm overwhelming just trying to keep up with all the new posts and topics.
I love this site, truly! But maybe a new way of organizing may be in order?

Nice post HEM. I love reading and learning hoops stats and your comparison of Tarik to Kev is fascinating. Giant fro not withstanding, Tarik should be able to give some 5th year senior experience to our rookies as well as provide close to 10ppg, 6-8 rpg, a couple assts and a block or two as well as all the down and dirty intangibles of a big his size. He will have matched my expectations. Maybe just maybe KU and Coach Self is what he needs for his last season of college hoops to be inspirational for him and for us fans.

HEM, I just wanna say that Im glad you are posting on here. You and Slayr both.

I agree. Some of you Posters out there can really write some good stuff. I did well in English class from high school through college but its been a while and really Im just a novice at writing and sports knowledge in general. I try to learn as much as I can about my favorite sport in the whole world (College Hoops) so I can contribute a little. But yah, everyone with writing chops and the time to do so should absolutely generate some independent content. Id love it!

Searching for jb... • Oct 27, 2013 02:18 PM

Yah! Where is that guy? He is absolutely one of my favorite KU Sports bloggers. Not one of the LJW Journalists can write like he can. Not Jesse, Matt, TK or Gary, even combined they would be hard pressed to come up with some of the awesome verbage that Jaybate can.

I believe that Tarik will be absolutely Huge for our Jayhawks this year.

[Thanks for] stuff from you guys! • Oct 26, 2013 02:05 PM

To start, cant we just use any old photo of AFH?

My gut says KU. Both teams have similar experience levels to start and the game could hinge on Wigs vs Parker. Advantage KU

Oh my god that is some funny stuff right there!
We should start calling him DJ JoJo or DJ Cameroon or some such shizz

Matchup Monday: Selden vs Smart • Oct 26, 2013 01:43 PM

See, this right here is what I am talking about. None of the journalists on LJW can write stuff like this. Then they change the website so its even harder to enjoy. Losers. Sorry, I know I am beating a dead horse at this point but still.
Thanks Drgnslayr for your post and Idea about Matchup Mondays. I don't know if I can contribute but I will definitely enjoy reading and learning!

Fact or Fiction? • Oct 26, 2013 01:36 PM

One more thing. This Champions Classic is my prediction for the Final Four.

MSU has experienced talent. UK has talent.
IMO, MSU will win.

Deep under a Heap • Oct 24, 2013 08:25 PM

Ive been a KU Basketball fan since '88. I love the sport. Basketball has so much more grace and finesse associated with it, so much more strategy. I was happy when KUFB won the Orange Bowl in '08. But I couldn't give a rats posterior about KUFB now. Especially since they are completely laughable. Maybe if they get to .500 some year, I might pay a bit more attention to it. But seriously, who wants to cheer for a team that everyone knows is going to get beat by 30 points a game?

Ive not had any problems with speed. All good from my end.
Im still wanting some background of some kind. RCJH!

KU and OSU • Oct 24, 2013 07:59 PM

Heck ya Truehawk, I see this match up as a definite advantage to KU. Smart is a beast but I think Selden can beat him. On the defensive end, Naadir can beat Forte and The Designer will be even better this year. He can beat Brown. That's not to say we wont go 1 and 1 with OSU during the conference because its possible. OSU is really the only other team besides maybe Baylor that will give us any real challenge this year. But no more backflips in AFH for Mr Smart.

Play the KU Lineups quiz • Oct 20, 2013 08:48 AM

Yah! It was pretty fun. I think I got 46/50.

jaybate • Oct 20, 2013 08:47 AM

did a quick search, may have found the real jaybate on twitter. I sent him a message about Ku Buckets. Hope it works.

Background options for the website • Oct 20, 2013 08:25 AM

Maybe to make this awesomeness even awesomer, there could be some background wallpapers of KU BBall, AFH and maybe even the KU Campus?

Keegan speculating on rotations. • Oct 20, 2013 08:22 AM

I don't want anyone to transfer!

Keegan speculating on rotations. • Oct 20, 2013 08:19 AM

good point farside. If, late in the season, shots aren't falling and the team needs some instant offense, I could see Coach pull Conner off the bench and say ok kid go get me 10 points and he will do it. I mean he is like a 90% shooter from everywhere. *slight exageration

On the other hand TK just wrote something about the 8-9 man rotation that most everyone has already spoken about.

is there a way to make the link clickable instead of copy paste?
Im seriously torn here people. Gary and the other guys do put down some good stuff but I refuse to post any sort of opinion on the site.
