Kansas/USA defeats Russia to advance to World University Games gold medal game
Scott Phillips
Jul 12, 2015, 9:30 AM EDT
Kansas/USA continued its undefeated run in South Korea at the World University Games with a 78-68 win over Russia to advance to the gold medal game. Led by 23 points from forward Perry Ellis and 22 points from guard Wayne Selden Jr., the Kansas/USA squad will attempt to bring home gold to America in the event for the first time since 2005.
Bill Selfβs team trailed by a point during the fourth quarter before Selden started making plays as he helped put the team in the lead for the rest of the game. Big man Landen Lucas also had a key stretch during the third quarter in which he scored seven consecutive points to give the Jayhawks a 12-point lead.
The gold medal game tips on Monday at 8 a.m. EST as Kansas/USA (7-0) will face Germany. Among the players on that team are Columbia guard Maodo Lo and Princeton forward Hans Brase, with Lo being a first team All-Ivy selection last season. While Lo accounted for seven points and five assists in the Germansβ 59-49 win over Brazil, Brase was one of two players to score in double figures as he tallied ten points to go along with four rebounds.
Also on the team is Kevin Bright, who played one season at Vanderbilt in 2012-13 before deciding to return to Germany to begin playing professionally.

ROCK CHALK JAYHAWK GO KU!!!!
@drgnslayr I have tweeted several guys @espn and Mark Packer about being 5-0 and got nothing. I will rub it in to Seth Davis, Bilas, Fraschilla, etc. when we win tomorrow!
The Woman's Team USA is playing vs Canada right before us for THE GOLD too! Wouldn't it be great to get both?
@wrwlumpy made getting up early worth it just for that!
Not bragging or anything, but I called Landen "getting his mindset back on track" after the Switz. game.
And I put on my Rock Chalk Jayhawk shirt after the 3rd quarter against Lithuania!
So you have me to thank twice :-)

Six players who will score more next season
ξ·
Dick Vitale, College Basketball analyst
I was recently sitting and having breakfast at Another Broken Egg in Lakewood Ranch, Florida, talking to a fan about college hoops.
While we were shooting the breeze about the summer and next season, we talked about a few players who should be stepping up their game in 2015-16. That got me to thinking about it. Keep an eye on this group of six.
Wayne Selden Jr., Kansas Jayhawks
He averaged only 9.4 points per game last season. Coach Bill Self will be relying more heavily on his veteran guard. You can see his confidence rising already with great performances during the World University Games. Selden averaged nearly 20 PPG in the first five games of the tournament, where the Jayhawks, plus SMU's Nic Moore, are 5-0 in pool play.
@nuleafjhawk But with the internet you can pretty much watch any show you want what with Hulu, etc. and all the sites that broadcast their own shows. Don't miss HBO one bit. PBS is what I watch the most and then when I want I can catch things on The History Channel site or ESPN. I'm more an outdoor person anyways - not stuck inside watching tv. Plus I'm not paying for 150+ channels that I don't really want.
Recently Austin passed a No Texting While Driving ban and it has made a big impact on my drive home. You still have the ones who still do it but it is a lot safer now that everyone is NOT doing it. Our Gov. didn't have the cajones to sign a law for it statewide. During the first week of the ban, they issued 750 tickets just inside the city limits. It was way out of hand.
@nuleafjhawk I don't own a cell/smart phone NOR do I have cable/satellite or any kind of tv other than the free channels. I do have internet access at my home paid for by my boss! I have a land line that I pay for but I also have the separate additional land line that had to be installed for the computer that my boss bought me the computer for that occasional time when I must do work from home on a weekend. I've worked with him for 33 years and have the best of both worlds.
@wissoxfan83 Coaches got the chance to sit and watch our next opponent, Lithuania, so in my mind that is huge, given that we knew nothing about first one, Turkey. Our last game vs Switzerland the starters got to rest and needed it. Wayne has his bounce back and the team is focused. Lucky to have Moore and DeBose. Landon has been a disappointment but hope he gets his mindset back on the right track. Hunter is having the time of his life and loving every minute. Every player has played and Tyler canned a 3 right in front of his Dad last game! The games can be found on ESPN Watch App under the WUG tab. You really need to watch the "final moment" video I posted under the @jaybate-1.0 article about how we won by 1 I think it was called. A heart stopper for sure!
Now that I'm on a real computer (posted earlier on my Nook), I found the link for you:

I noticed on the play where he canned the first 3 that he followed his shot and was the first one into the lane to get his rebound if it didn't go in. Quick first step. Love that he has had this experience and has gotten some "freshman jitters" worked out.
Gonna be great season for us fans! :boom: :exclamation:   :basketball:
@JayHawkFanToo I noticed that too during the Turkey game. One player had white sleeves on his arms and others were red.

Final moment:
Why wasn't that foul considered at least intentional?
@Crimsonorblue22 I don't have cable so am watching on my Nook and can't comment during watching.
