11 in the ROW! RCJH!

@HighEliteMajor A couple of questions for you: We all know that without Embiid was a bad thing last year. Is without Cliff a bad thing this year?

What is the game plan ahead without Cliff? What would HCBS do to adjust his Hi/Low game?

It is hard to be at KU, if you read the article by Dicky V on COY, you will see the media biase on KU. He did not even mention Self! Same go for our beloved Players, they have to do a lot more to attract media attention to build their cases for any consideration for awards; because winning is to be expected. But, I think that is the price we have to pay for being Kansas and for being the Big 12 Dominator. RCJH!

I try to recall last year and compare to what we are at now. Last year, at 22-7, we lost Embiid and we have PG issue and also Wigs did not always bring his A game. This year, we "lost" Cliff at 22-6, we don't have a PG issue, we have Ellis bringing his A games lately. Both years, Jamari is about the same, Seldon is not much an upgrade.

Therefore, position to position, I think we are better with Mason at 1 and better with Devonte as his backup. Don't think Mason's handle was better than Devonte now.

We still have Seldon at the 2. Slight upgrade.

At the 3, we have Oubre and Greene. Are they better than Wigs combined? This is a big question.

At the 4, we still have Ellis. A much improved Ellis.

Without Embiid and without Cliff, we have Jamari. Even at the 5.

So, looking at the above, I like the prospect of the current team better than the prospect of last year team as much was built around Embiid off late. I personally think we can do better than last year. RCJH!

Go ISU for one night. And hope to see Melvin Weathermax cheering for WVU in Lawrence. HCBS will ask Christian G. To drive for a dunk for the last play in a KU blow out win.

"Guys, Coach says guard their three guns!"
Team mates on the floor replied: Greene, Oubre or Seldon?

I apologize • Feb 26, 2015 08:53 AM

@DoubleDD I think Hi/Low is HCBS Insurance Policy/Safety Net. Don't think HCBS will ever be comfortable going forward without an Effective Hi/Low weapon in his arsenal. Maybe, he feels "naked" relying on the 3 guns.

Since he is the HC, he will do what he feels comfortable with. I think all of us would want to see 1/3 of the shot attempts are from 3pt.

Let's see what happen in the UT game. I predict a fierce Guards vs Guards games and Ellis may come up top while the guards neutralize each other. RCJH!

I would also like to add that Guard Plays are crucial for this game. I did some stats crunching on Yancy and Taylor and found that they are the Go To Guys for the last 3 games:

OU
Taylor 10/55 shots (18%) Yancy 14/55 shots (25%) = 43%

ISU
Taylor 18/71 shots (25%) Yancy 17/71 shots (24%) = 49%

WVU
Taylor 8/40 shots (20%) Yancy 8/40 shots (20%) = 40%

Mason, Seldon, Oubre and Graham will have to keep them in check.

I apologize • Feb 26, 2015 08:23 AM

@DoubleDD It is a free Forum. All voices should be welcomed as long as they are not personal bickerings like the other site.

Anyway, I think HCBS did his recruiting to cater for his High/Low. I think Cliff "slow development" is the cause of the ineffective High/Low. Now, we have Ellis playing solo effectively at the post most times. Cliff is supposed to play along side him according to the plan.

Going ahead, I think Cliff is still the key. We need him to show up. How? Only HCBS knows. RCJH!

The game against Texas will be a Trap Game. They have everything to play for and they really need this game. They will come out very hungry.

Although they have lost 3 in a row, all were close games: 71-69 @ OU(#17), 85-77 vs ISU (#14), 71-64 @ WVU (#20), by a total of 16 points to Ranked Teams.

The stats show they were in all three games:

vs OU

Lead Scorers: Turner (17) Yancy (14)

Shooting % 43.6% (OU 36.1%)

3Pt% 34.8% (OU 42.1%)

Rebound +3

Assist 0

Steal -8

Block +12

Turnover -8

vs ISU

Lead Scorers: Yancy (29), Taylor (23)

Shooting % 40.8% (ISU 46.4%)

3Pt% 37.5% (ISU 57.1%)

Rebound +11

Assist +2

Steal -1

Block -1

Turnover -4

@WVU

Lead Scorers: Holland (14), Taylor (13)

Shooting % 52.5% (WVU 42.3%)

3Pt% 46.2% (WVU 36.8%)

Rebound +4

Assist -6

Steal -1

Block +4

Turnover -8

From the last 3 games, we can tell that they are sloppy with the balls. They can block and rebound well. They shot a lot of 3Pts. They are inconsistent like us.

I think if Seldon can keep Kendal Yancy at bay (SO, Guard, 6-3, 200lbs), we should be able to cruise and control the tempo. Like us, the development of their Freshman Post Player is slow and left much to be desired.

If HCBS allows, it would be a 3Pt battle with both teams hoisting more than 20 trials. In order to win the game, we must have better anticipation in Rebounding. 3Pt is a battle, Rebound will win the WAR! RCJH!

Do we root for Baylor tonight? • Feb 26, 2015 04:07 AM

@jaybate-1.0 Calling all great posters like you to start a thread on how to beat Texas. I always think the coaching staff maybe reading. Please flex your fingers and energize our TEAM. RCJH!

Do we root for Baylor tonight? • Feb 26, 2015 04:02 AM

@Crimsonorblue22 I am happy with the result but I don't like the taste. We must take care of our own business!

Thank you BEARS!

Do we root for Baylor tonight? • Feb 26, 2015 02:46 AM

For one night, Go Bears! But, I hope we don't have to do this (cheering for others) again. Main thing is to win our remaining home games. RCJH!

Courtstorming • Feb 25, 2015 07:08 AM

@Kip_McSmithers Thanks. Corrected.Too many Stormings lately.

Sorry. It still isn't a rivalry. • Feb 25, 2015 06:24 AM

I think the Rivalry is: KU vs The Rest of B12! RCJH!

Courtstorming • Feb 25, 2015 06:07 AM

10 Years of B12 Total Domination culminated their frustration. It is understood why they (the rest of B12) did what the did. How rare it is for them to beat Kansas! But, KSU should have done a better job to protect the visiting team. On the other hand, KSU may have done our Team a favor to NOT want to have such storming feeling again in Norman.

To date, we have 3/4 Court Storming for our Road Losses in the Conference (OSU, WVU, KSU). Does HCBS wants another one at Norman or he will amp the Team up properly? I hope when we go to OU, it is for an Outright B12 Ring when we win and not needing a Win for a Tie. If ISU wins out, I think a game of such magnitude (vs OU for a Tie of B12) will tune our Team for a Deep March Run. RCJH!

Cliff staying or going? • Feb 16, 2015 08:50 AM

My take is, Cliff may be paying attention to what happened to Seldon. If Cliff is healthy and have a chance to be 1st round pick (not necessarily lottery), he will go.

Assuming there is a ceiling in him that he now knows, for the sake of his NBA stock, it is better for him to declare than stay. Or, he could chose not to put in those effort required of him in college and try to do it where he is being paid for in the NBA.

Of course, I wish he could stay as I think he needs to and it would be good for him. But, the money may not be there if he stays.

Baylor post-game comments • Feb 15, 2015 01:34 AM

@HighEliteMajor Agreed. Going forward, I think what concern me most is the continued development of Cliff.

Baylor post-game comments • Feb 15, 2015 01:27 AM

I think we tried to play the Outside In game tonight (38% of shots were from trey!). However, it is the Inside game and pretty solid FTs saved the day. It is good to have options! RCJH!

Now i truly understand the word "Spambot" on the other thread!

Love for our JNewell! • Feb 13, 2015 06:02 AM

@Jesse-Newell Congratulations! Well deserved.

KUBUCKETS Is Refreshing! • Feb 13, 2015 04:01 AM

For users like me who don't really know the exact meaning of Spambot, this is from Wiki: "A spambot is an automated computer program designed to assist in the sending of spam. Spambots usually create fake accounts and send spam using them, although in many cases it would be obvious that a spambot is sending it. This has led to the development of password-cracking spambots that are able to send spam using other people's accounts."

@VailHawk I almost choke on my Diet Coke! Haha

KUBUCKETS Is Refreshing! • Feb 13, 2015 02:25 AM

We are hitting 20K Users soon. Many thanks to @approxinfinity. Can anyone tell me is KUBuckets a unique, limited identity, commercial free, fan operated site in the country with this many users?

Just like to add that maybe we should give some loves to the KU Women BB Team who is in last place now in Big 12. Go Lady Hawks! Maybe there should be place for the WBB fans at KUBuckets.

Maybe Traylor is playing with the Scout Team in practice for the last month. And, he knows that going ahead, Cliff will start soon, which happened at TTU. So, his chemistry with 1st Team may not be as good as it had been.

Maybe, that is the price to pay to develop a guy like Cliff for the B 12 final strecth and Big Dance ahead.

I have a feeling we are going the see what we were all hoping to see before the season. A complete and balanced team (Inside Out and Outside In) in this game. Cos, Cliff is the only "Starter" piece that is coming along longer than we thought he would have.

Ellis, Mason, Oubre, Cliff and Seldon to be starters from now onwards. Greene will be the 6th Man. Then, come the Energy Guy to pick up any Slacking Guy. Then, Graham to give Mason the rest. A solid 8 man rotation.

@Crimsonorblue22 I think this game will see Cliff assigned to Rico, if Cliff does well to avoid early fouls and guard Rico effectively. He will be a starter all the way. I think it is his big test.

Starting at TTU could be the warm up for Baylor. Not suggesting HCBS was looking over TTU but planning ahead for his player development.

I have a feeling HCBS will use this game to show our Inside Out game with Ellis and Cliff combo. However, I still see him using 30% of the shots for Trey.

@mtwagonmaster sorry about the post. My computer is not behaving.

@ralster Agreed. The 1st time we played them we did not do very well on the board. They actually out rebounded us by 8. We need to pound the glass harder. In that game, they shot 53.3% from the trey and 34.0% overall. We shot 29.4% from the trey and 47.1% overall.

Good D will win the game and better rebounding will give us a better win. Shoot our 40% trey will probably be a big win.

In case the Coaching staff is reading. I just did some numbers crunching to compare the 2 teams. I found that the 2 teams are very similar in their 3 Pt game.

Players----3 PT (%)----% of Team’s 3PT Attempts

Prince
39.8%---21.7%

Chery
38.4%---20.0%

O'Neale
42.3%---16.6%

Medford
38.9%---21.0%

31.6% of Shot Attempts are from 3 PT.

Average Team 3 PT Shooting % is 37.1%

Players---3 PT (%)---% of Team’s 3PT Attempts

Mason
44.1%---16.7%

Selden
43.0%---24.6%

Oubre
35.4%---16.0%

Greene
52.3%---16.0%

30.1% of Shot Attempts are from 3 PT.

Average Team 3 PT Shooting % is 40.9%.

So, if we have an ON day for trey, we win. If we have an OFF day for trey, they win. Maybe that was the reason for HCBS to talk up Inside Out after TTU.

My wish: 1st Play of the game is for everyone to set Ellis up for a Trey. Ellis makes it (that would be his 1,000). HCBS calls a Time Out. AFH goes crazy. Team amps up. Greene fires from all over the place during the game and we torch the Bears! RCJH!

Rest In Peace, Tark the Shark. • Feb 12, 2015 04:08 AM

@jaybate-1.0 JB: It was Tarkanian's Fresno State vs Self's Tulsa team in the 99/00 season. They played 3 times that season including the final of the WAC tournament. I believe Tark beat him all 3 times.

Ha Ha, not sure were the Outside In games vs the Inside Out games. Or Self may had been beaten by an Inside Out team so badly that he vowed to stick to Inside Out system. I think we need a BB historian here to help.

Rest In Peace, Tark the Shark. • Feb 12, 2015 02:37 AM

@jaybate-1.0 JB, u r good! Augmentation! What a word. You must have also remembered Stacey Augmon who was then the 89/90 UNLV guard.

Rest In Peace, Tark the Shark. • Feb 12, 2015 01:53 AM

If memory serves, Tark is a great Outside In Coach and his 1989/90 NC gave Duke a nice polish in the face. I don't think that season CBB had implemented 3 Pt rule yet. His teams were always high scoring teams.

BTW, I remembered we were one of the 2 teams that beat UNLV in their NC season in early Non Con. RCJH!

I will like to add that KU is ranked 8 nationally in 3 pt %. The best trey % among the current Top 25. And only one other AP Top 25 team, Utah is ranked in the Top 10 3 pt %. I think I like our gold, fool's or not. RCJH!

You all were right, Cliff is a starter. • Feb 11, 2015 04:20 AM

Then again, i doubt it has been delayed much. Phase 1 is Non Con, Phase 2 1st Halve of Big 12, Phase 3 2nd Halve of Big 12. I hope there will be a Phase 4 for the Big Dance. It is pretty clear now with regards to HCBS' plan.

You all were right, Cliff is a starter. • Feb 11, 2015 04:12 AM

Phase 3 of HCBS' 2014/15 Team Construction. Phase 1 was getting ready for KO, done. Phase 2 was getting ready for CA, done with some delays. Phase 3 started today! RCJH!
