Mitch is the Key? • Dec 30, 2016 09:25 PM

One more bigman injury, offcourt trouble, or extended period of poor play (and I'm really hoping none of those occur) and we'll be seeing more of Mitch than many expected. Hope he's ready when his number is called. I have a feeling he will be.

For @RockchalkinTexas • Dec 23, 2016 03:13 PM

Well said both of you above. I've been a jayhawk hoops fan for many years. I used to enjoy the other site, but when it turned negative and the best posters went here, I felt lucky to have found this site.

I've been logging in with a new account recently, as my old one jhwkinTgrtown, didn't want to work anymore, and while a not a big commenter, I've really enjoyed learning about the game from people who know it much better than myself.

And sometimes, like when HEM disappeared or someone shares a joy or a loss like rockchalkintexas has, I realize that its not just the knowledge and opinions - those can be found elsewhere on the interwebs - that keep me coming back, but the personalities behind the writing.

I can't say I "know" of any of you (but feel free to look me up if you're in st. louis) but sometimes our writing here gives glimpses of who we are. So in that way, I feel like I "know" some of you. Mostly kind, intelligent and passionate folk who share a common history of attending a great school during formative years of our lives.

I was bit surprised for the grief I felt for rockchalkntexas' loss, someone I've never met, I think it speaks to the quality of people, and writing, on this site. Thanks everyone, for your wisdom and wit and efforts that keep this site alive.

Cherish the time with your loved ones and merry christmas to all.

Tim

Where is HighEliteMajor???! • Dec 22, 2016 10:59 PM

@MoonwalkMafia

Ack, wish I hadn't gone there. Oh well, hopefully he sticks to sharing his great insights on basketball and leaves the politics on Twitter

@HighEliteMajor Good to see you here again!

UNLV game • Dec 22, 2016 10:44 PM

Hope your husband makes a full recovery. And hope the 'hawks give you a nice winning diversion for a few hours too.

I don't get CBS either, but I make do with the radio stream available on my phone with an app called TuneIn Radio.

Doke- Hurt hand • Dec 22, 2016 05:13 AM

Well that sucks all around. He's was really turning into a force to be reckoned with.

Ok Lucas, Carlton, Lightfoot, let's man up and take care of some big man bizness.

Joel Freaking Embiid • Dec 20, 2016 04:28 PM

To Dylans poll... While I'm a big Embiid fan (that video was awesome) and his ceiling is sky high (as is his wingspan) Curry is one of the greatest shooters ever to hit the NBA and averaged 30pts a game last year. So for now I'd take Curry. Now maybe in a few years if Joel keeps getting better...

Beakileaks: How to Beat KU • Dec 07, 2016 08:15 PM

Sorry ralster, I'm a one team kinda guy and don't follow the Sillikins much. Unless your a Cards or Blues fan, you don't get a lot of press here. Even the Kittens, once they went to the SEC, don't get a lot of notice anymore, poor kittens. Not.

However I did read that there was a lot of complaints when they cut away from the LA Rams game last week. The network was surprised because they used to get complaints when they didn't cut away... turns out a fair amount of people tune in now to watch them lose! These Miserians are a funny bunch.

Someone with a similar FT problem reached back for an underhanded idea this year...

@jaybate-1.0 Well said. We are lucky to have him.

Some team stats through 8 games • Dec 07, 2016 02:46 PM

I went back and looked at Frank's stats the last 10 games of the last two years and there was a pretty decent dropoff overall in his production last year, but too much the year before. (you can check them out for yourself here ↗)

I'm still torn on the issue. It so makes sense to save the wear and tear on him as much as possible. But then again, if your best player says "put me in coach, I'm fine, I want this, and this is my time to shine" AND he produces for you...

Tough call.

@justanotherfan on Franks minutes...

It sure seems to make sense to limit Franks minutes to me too.

But then there's this little voice in my head that says, "He's a senior, he loves the game, he's in great shape, he's tough as nails, he's our general on the floor, he wants to build up his stats, he has played basketball hours and hours and hours every day of his young life (okay, maybe not getting punched and elbowed for 35 minutes)... why not let him play to his heart's content in the last 20 games or so of his college career? Will he really wear down to the point of being noticeably less effective come March if he plays 30+ minutes?

I totally get the whole idea of conservation of valuable resources and the pounding Division I ball puts on a body. But I ask of better basketball historians than me - didn't guys in the old days play lots of minutes in lots of games for 4 years? Is the game really that much more violent and/or are the players today not as strong? I really don't know. It just seems like Frank just wants to play long and hard,

Some team stats through 8 games • Dec 05, 2016 06:49 PM

Not quite a "team" stat, but a good one nonetheless... when we beat UMKC tomorrow night, Bill Self will get his 6ooth career win (8 more KU wins and he'll be at 400 wins at one school). Not bad for a guy who's only 53. We are lucky to have not just a smart, winning coach, but a class act as well.

Thoughts from the game • Nov 30, 2016 02:54 PM

Vick - not too bad at all for starting the season with 15-for-37 shooting and 1-for-13 from 3s. Better to get that slump out of the way early in the year I guess.

This Is It! • Nov 29, 2016 07:53 PM

Jesse had this nice little breakdown of KU's first plays of the last six game (we scored first in all six). Josh is a big part of it...
