You should send that pic of Weber on the court to the ref committee... he seems pretty far out there to me. Had to laugh when someone in another thread here said they'd pay to see Doke take him out when Weber is out that far.
I agree, definitely gotta wait for the fat lady to sing, and even then not the best idea ever... but still kinda feel sorry for them.
Ouch. St. Bonaventure has the win at home and storms the court ↗. Unfortunately still a wee bit o time left on the clock - the VCU coach asks the refs for a technical and they agree, his player sinks the FTs... and they go on to win the game in OT.
Oops.
@dylans
Just checked and not terribly ugly. Some whiny hand wringers calling for a better coach but more of put-it-behind-us stuff like this:
"▼bad, rough loss
but i’d say teams like uva or kansas blowing double digit leads is worse.
just put this in the rear view mirror and learn from it
"▼Arizona has the worst fans in the country?????
Really Greg Last time I checked McKale has been sold out forever and Arizona has not made a final four since 2001. Literally Arizona has some of the best fans in the country. If this was Duke, Kentucky, UNC, or Kansas and they just lost like that, there fan base would be saying the exact same things as many are saying. Actually probably 10 times worse. That was not a bad game, it was an AWFUL AWFUL game…and I bet you McKale will be full on Wendesday still.
Lazy me for not googling shortest players. Had no idea Isaiah T was that short. Go Frank go!
I'm a big Frank fan, but doesn't he seem a bit short to be playing in the NBA? I know he's a legit POY here in Div 1, but not being a big NBA follower, maybe there are other short guys with lots of heart playing in the pros?
And I didn't even see JJ going that low when I first read it... does cast doubt on the writers credibility with that guess.
Hmm, that sounds a little too black and white for my tastes...
Humans can be very upset, do something stupid that they will feel terrible about later and still be human in my book.
You say hitting someone in a bar is human??? Maybe rather than striking someone repeatedly and possibly causing thousands of dollars in medical bills (and pain and possible disfigurement), an equally upset person might do an alternatively reactionary stupid thing while they were upset and key a guy's car that resulted in no personal injury.
Are always sure you are 100% certain of all cases of right and wrong? I know I'm not as there are way too many grey areas and unknown variables in life to be that certain in condemning the actions occurring at events I wasn't at.
I understand where you're coming from, and I too am upset about all the crap going in our beloved program lately. But your logic does not resonate with me and I prefer to get more facts and information before passing judgement on others. Maybe that's just me though.
Wow, that is so cool!
Was just on a Faylor site, man I thought we whined about announcers and refs. Here's a sample...
"Vitale is so hard to listen to, I had to turn the sound all the way down. Probably pretty cool if it's your team, but intolerable if its not. He had some nice things to say about our players but nothing like the slobbery love fest going on for KU.
ESPN put that graphic up there that the Drew was 0-9 at Phog about 20 times like it was some kind of big revelation. How many B12 coaches have a win there? It just seemed like they were piling on."
Fun stuff. But we are also getting lots of terrible press on the major sports sites over all the charges and accusations lately too. Makes our program look pretty bad :disappointed:
Lol,.. heck, any Frank in a storm at that point...
Excellent point. Yet I still have visions of freshman Frank getting it to click and Wigs and Embiid posting silly big numbers against all comers.
I think we win at Faylor too, Self just has Drew's number, like some voodoo doll curse. But I don't see them losing again in conference play besides us.
And I could see KU possibly losing one more somewhere else that we shouldn't. Either way, pretty sure we get at least a piece of the trophy this year.
I don't know about Wigs over JJ. Yes, Wigs has the athletic goods, and yes he was not surrounded by what JJ is surrounded by now on the court, so its hard to compare.
But I always got the feeling Wigs was sort of aware of his end goal and was careful to protect the NBA merchandise in his short time here. I never really saw him being that scrappy junkyard dog like JJ is night in and night out.
So even if surrounded by better players, (and Embiid wasn't exactly chopped liver out there btw) yes he'd post a lot better numbers than he did, but I still wager wouldn't see that same intensity Josh brings. Liking this kid more every game.
And a healthy Embiid would be my pick. His injury is the main reason we didn't cut the nets down that year.
Wow, that was a sick dunk! And I'll bet Bill would be pissed as heck if he did that in front of coach.
Faylor is so predictable
yea, i saw that footer 3pt comment and I'm like huh? then see the bean pole drain it a few plays later
wow you're like at least a minute in the future from me in this game
how was that a jump ball?
oww that 3 pt hurt
i know, dualing threads, maybe head over to the other one...
dualing game threads?
refs are staying out of it tonight surprisingly
@HawkChamp
definitely
lots of faylor offensive rebounds for second chances. then josh answers!
mason misses bounce pass. and Vick is in there
frank sinks two FTs
@stoptheflop
he totally did, and then couldn't hold a rebound, but still... he seems to be in the right place making some moves and grabbing some loose balls.
colbey looking decent, grabbing some rebounds
ack coleby misses bunny underneath
ha, travel again for faylor
Dicky V so past his prime
josh sweet inside move
svithree!
This sucks not seeing the game on espn 2 roku. syrexcuse and NCS vs 2 in the country playing 3
Overtime needs to be over. Dicky V playing drums with the band pre=game also needs to be over.
My prediction for tonight...
Faylor comes out on fire and we play catch up in a slow paced game with lots of fouls, but we pull closer at half time. Then we come out on fire after the half to take the lead back halfway thru. Then Faylor makes a good run and takes the lead again to all of our dismay and hand wringing. Then Frank, refusing to lose, takes over, making numerous clutch plays. Coinciding with Frank power moves, Drew makes some bonehead moves and snatches defeat from the jaws of victory.
Some coaches have other coach's number - Izzo seems to be able to rattle Self. Bill will outcoach Drew yet again tonight, 69 to 63, for the home win.
I think Kensucky is ahead in wins against us 24 to 7. Make that 8 now. What a great win!
Yep, We're not the only team that plays tough at home, we knew that at the beginning of the season and most of us predicted a loss or two on the road. Losses can be motivating things - look how we well we did after our last one. While I hate losing, going undefeated during the regular season is a real burden.
Sky isn't falling, just gotta play smarter and harder. Unless we freefall, and I don't see frank letting that happen, we still are going to be conference champs again. The big dance is mostly about who is hot and healthy in March.
Let's see what happens next game...
Funny stuff!
I watched the game but haven't seen that clip, thanks for the share and the awesome memories!

Good teams play down to their opponents sometimes
Yep, I've noticed that about us fairly regularly over the years too. And yep, Bragg has disappointed so far. And yep, we haven't played much of our bench lately. And yep, yet another KU team that kinda sucks at the charity stripe.
But as this topic title states: "Kansas is playing as well as anyone in the country right now." All teams have things they need to work on. All teams get injuries. All teams get surprised by teams they should beat easily. There are just too many variables involved. And while nerve wracking for us fans... that's what makes college ball so fun to watch.
I guess the "ideal" is for our team beat the crap out of every other team day in and day out, maybe winning (or heaven forbid, losing) by a whisker to other blue bloods in epic battles now and then. But if you look at wins, rather than how we win, KU is basically an ideal team. And it's pretty awesome.
You know what's really promising about this year's team? And it's funny that I was just thinking about it when I read an article on the other site ↗ today that pointed it out as well... we have three, scrappy "dogs" on this team. Mason, Jackson and Graham have all shown that, when pushed to a certain point, when things are looking down, say to themselves, "I refuse to let us lose". And they have the talent to back it up.
And that my friends is a thing of beauty. When a person of great heart and determination says, "Lose tonight? Not on my watch".
The first time I saw it was George Brett carrying the Royals to a World Series in '85. Then just a few years later I saw it again with Danny Manning and Miracles. On paper, other teams those years may have been more "deserving" to win. (Just like some years, on talent alone, KU has deserved many more Final Four appearance than we have under Bill Self.)
But the game ain't played on paper,
It only took one "uber dog" in '85 and '88 to carry their team to a championship. And while we may not have an ace uber dog, have three junkyard dogs... and having three 3 kings in the hole sure seems like a nice advantage to me as we wade deeper into conference play.
Earlier in his KU career, I used to cringe when Landen Lucas would get the ball. "Soft hands!" and "Missed another bunny!" and "Why is Coach still playing this kid when he has ___ (fill in the blank) ready to play" I would yell at the tv screen to no avail.
I changed my mind, and my tune, as this intelligent young man grew more into what Coach saw in him all along. Instead of cringing, I now feel assured when I see that big body near the basket. He's not the best big man KU has ever had, but he has definitely earned his place on the team, and my respect.
And though I missed part of the game last night, it appears he has also earned the respect of his peers too. Every time I look at this clip ↗ it makes me laugh.
Now just LL's glare can push a 6' 8" 220lb Texan backwards several feet looking for his mama, er ref, to help him. Looking forward to seeing you intimidate more foes this year, Lucas-san, go get em!
Dang Clones fell to Faylor in the last few seconds. Lots of close games lately.
@justanotherfan
That makes sense... and yet I'm kinda diggin the way Lucas has been playing recently, Big 12 Player of the Week and all. If he gets even better, watch out!
@jaybate-1.0
As always, I agree Self is a genius, I enjoy your take on things, and I hope you're right!
I'm with you, we won, Coach will work his magic as he always does, and someone will always step up to save the off nights of others... next.
And calls go both ways, refs aren't perfect, and Johnson should have been called a lot more last night... but you can see all four steps of Svi's travel clearly spelled out in slow motion 40 seconds into the clip here ↗.
@elpoyo
Yea, they give NBA Rookie of the Year to all the sub-par players don't they?
@jaybate-1.0 That was an enjoyable story! There are big chunks that seem quite a stretch, but I enjoyed reading it :)
So glad josh didn't brick those last two free throws like he did the others
Svi!!!
