Way to "Spice" up the boards

Bracket Reveal chat. Sneak preview • Mar 13, 2017 01:29 AM

@truehawk93

Was just getting ready to post almost identical to yours. I too think that when Bill won at OSU, the old voodoo spells are falling by the wayside. And I too give the edge to Miami so we may not even see Izzo.

I see Purdue and ISU a toss up, and will be interested to see how your "B12 tourney taking a lot of them" stands up... both for them and conversely, how much it helps us to be rested and ready. And once agree with you, Oregon L'ville is going to be great, but KU takes L'ville down. And once last agreement - a Nova KU rematch will be awesome and paybacks are going to be hell for them!

Bracket Reveal chat. Sneak preview • Mar 13, 2017 01:12 AM

Just saw our bracket, we could have done a lot worse! Not happy about playing one of the few coaches who always seem to out coach Self in the second round, but once we get past Izzo, I like our path to the FF.

Time for our guys to show off the goods on the big stage, can't wait!

Ball Family • Mar 12, 2017 05:14 PM

Unless of course, UCLA wins the tourney, then we'll never hear the end of it. Crossing my fingers for an early exit for them.

Latest Assembly Call bracket • Mar 11, 2017 05:04 PM

@mayjay
I have to agree, I'd prefer to see UCLA as late as possible, like the FF game actually. But the rest of the bracket looks like a gift.

Man I sure hope this week off works some magic, I'm ready to see us play a string of great games!

The other two won a national title... isn't that an interesting factoid. I like it!

Big 12 Tournament of tears • Mar 09, 2017 10:32 PM

@BShark

Chip on our shoulder now after this, Josh back, everybody rested, Frank with one last thing to prove (making a final four)... I like our chances for the next few games.

(But have to admit I will be crushed if we don't get to the Elite Eight)

Big 12 Tournament of tears • Mar 09, 2017 10:23 PM

Hopefully got all the post season, end of game, bone head plays out of the way with this game so we can kick some booty in the next one.

Big 12 Tournament of tears • Mar 09, 2017 10:15 PM

That is so lame. Well at least we get to test the "So tired because of the conference tournament drained us" theory of early outs at the Dance.

Big 12 Tournament of tears • Mar 09, 2017 10:13 PM

Svi... facepalm. Way to be consistent at the end of the season.

GRAYSON ALLEN IS A DIRTY PLAYER • Mar 07, 2017 04:16 AM

@JayHawkFanToo

I hadn't seen that one before either, pretty funny!

GRAYSON ALLEN IS A DIRTY PLAYER • Mar 06, 2017 08:19 PM

Grayson throwing his head back pretending he got hit in the head on that no-contact play reminded me of this guy...

Contender or Pretender? • Mar 06, 2017 04:40 PM

@Blown

The Shockers in the second round? Ouch! And UCLA (who I'm picking as a FF team) as #3 seed in our bracket? Double ouch!

That said, we're the number 1 team in the country for a reason, and we gotta play the best teams sooner or later to win the championship so... Bring it on!

Haters, wanna challenge our Conference? • Mar 03, 2017 06:23 PM

Posted this a bit ago in a different thread, but seems worthy to toss in this conversation as well.

@KUSTEVE

I liked the comments after the article too.

Big-12 Tourney as of today • Feb 28, 2017 03:11 PM

@joeloveshawks

Yea, just no injuries, Please!

Paging Svi!!! • Feb 28, 2017 03:10 PM

Yes, strange to have a continued starter stay this cold this long. Maybe battling personal issues? Already has a Euro-contract in his pocket? Injury? Sure would like to see a breakout game soon.

Senior Night vs OU • Feb 28, 2017 02:38 PM

@bskeet

Yea, I was thinking that too... OU is going to be tough next year. But i still wouldn't bet on them winning at AFH :satisfied:

Not too excited about the conference tourney (as usual), but man, I am stoked for the Dance this year. These kids know how to win, and just never give up!

It's good to be a Jayhawk these days.

It's Official - KU #1 • Feb 27, 2017 10:29 PM

@cragarhawk said:

There’s another… and while I know I’ll get chastised for this… I really don’t think the Big12 is very good this year

I hear you. It sure seems good this year (as it has in years past) but the B12 seems to do poorly after the first round or two every year. Below are a couple of charts I got from this article ↗:

!elite 8.jpg.JPG ↗

!final4.jpg.JPG ↗

But then again, I don't really care about the rest of our conference that much, I just want us to win it all this year!

It's Official - KU #1 • Feb 27, 2017 02:02 AM

@Texas-Hawk-10

Wow, that looks like one of the worst brackets I could imagine for us. I hope it's waaayyy off.

Gonzaga Loses • Feb 26, 2017 03:43 PM

@ralster
Yea, UCLA looks like Goliaths out there...c'mon Jayhawk Davids!

2017 - #1 and the streak ends! • Feb 26, 2017 02:31 PM

@Bosthawk
I did catch some of that game and thought exactly the same thing. Those guys were huge and looked really good. I too hope we don't play either of those teams until the final rounds.

Tejas Game Thread • Feb 25, 2017 11:23 PM

Sieve pass not close again. I see a pattern... and don't like it near as much as Josh's pattern

Tejas Game Thread • Feb 25, 2017 11:21 PM

sweet pass by Josh. I see a pattern... and I like it.

Tejas Game Thread • Feb 25, 2017 11:20 PM

sweet 3 by josh

Tejas Game Thread • Feb 25, 2017 11:14 PM

Sieve, er Svi, misses that 3 by a long measure

Tejas Game Thread • Feb 25, 2017 11:12 PM

Walton's tie dye t-shirt is looking as bad Tejas is these first few minutes

Burnt Orange Predictions • Feb 25, 2017 10:55 PM

My cracked, murky and unreliable crystal ball says Josh has an off night, as does Frank, but still have respectable numbers. Carlton shows up to play to much board rat rejoicing. Sieve, I mean Svi, gets yanked early for poor shot selection and letting his man blow by him. Overall, It's close and sloppy throughout, but the good guys win as usual.

It's good to be a Jayhawk these days.

9 consecutive wins against them... I say it's a close first half then we relax and pull away. DG finds his stroke again and hits 5 3's.

Down to the last two games in AFH for most of our starters... and they make a statement (finally) against a lesser opponent.

One thing Mizzou fans do well... • Feb 22, 2017 01:06 PM

Classy. Heard a rumor they're going to start storming the court at halftime when they have the lead on a top100 team...

For me, my favorite Self moment in awhile was when he told the whole team (on a Drew timeout) what Drew was going to try on the last play of the game. And of course Drew followed through and called the play - a lob to his best player.

But with Motley double teamed, they had to throw it into the 7 footer who everyone knew wasn't going to drive it. Josh knew to leave his man and helped Frank block Motely when he finally did get the ball for a last desperation shot to tie the game.

Faylor is so consistent, And Drew must feel like Wile E. Coyote chasing the Road Runner... meep, meep,,, better luck next time.

Pretty awesome coaching and some fine decision making by JJ.

It's great to be a Jayhawk these days.

#13 Is Closer, But What About Those Bears? • Feb 17, 2017 11:49 PM

Said it before and will say it again, some coaches just have the magic mojo over other coaches... Self totally owns Drew.

Jayhawks win this one, but we let our guard down (or they let us down, ha!) lose one more to a lesser team down the road. But we still win #13, still have #1 seed.

BACK TO WATCHING 6 KU GAMES IN A BAR. • Feb 14, 2017 06:10 PM

@wrwlumpy

We cut our cable completely 2 years ago. Last year we added this thing called Sling TV (based off the internet and using our wifi) and now pay $7 to get ESPN and ESPN2 (along with other stuff) which has all the big KU games. This year, most KU games have been on it. You might check it out.

Greatest comeback of all time • Feb 14, 2017 02:29 PM

From the ESPN game thread near the end of regulation, when I admit had lost every shred of hope...

"Kansas on the ropes against West Virginia: Frank Mason struggling shooting 1-7 FG, Landon Lucas with four fouls & Jayhawks haven't made a 3-pointer in the second half (0-5)"

I still can not believe we won that game.

Other coaches will replay the last minutes of this game and say to their teams, "See that? 14 points down with under 3 minutes. Don't ever give up, just play harder. It ain't over til the fat lady sings." Well, that and maybe "Dang, those Jayhawks are scrappy bunch." :satisfied:

Ok, sorry to beat granny's dead horse here again, but this kid just set a school record for consecutive made free throws ↗. If one is really serious about improving because you're costing your school wins because you suck at it, maybe swallow your pride? Like KUSteve said, maybe have the kid's former NBA dad come and talk to our guys.

Yea, I know it's goofy as heck looking, but I can imagine a scenario where all the players at some school decide to do it and it actually bonds them more. And other teams realize that when you foul anyone that team, it's almost automatic. Think of the games we've lost that we wouldn't have if we had back those 5 or 10 misses.

that was one ugly ass win.

Make anyone shooting less than 65% (lookin at you Jackson, Lightfoot, Coleby, Landen and Svi) shoot it Granny style. ↗

And if it doesn't improve their stats right away, they'll at least be embarrassed enough to work on their standard technique! :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

"Blow-out" Quandary... • Feb 09, 2017 09:42 PM

@HighEliteMajor

Yes! Watching us find new and innovative ways to get bumped out the tournament is exceedingly frustrating and perplexing to me.

And I like your notion of Bill's flexibility being a nice X factor this year. It hurts me to see such a great basketball mind get out-coached on occasion. I don't know the X's and O's of the game like you and Jaybate do, but Self sure seems to have grown this year in his ability to embrace and utilize new ideas.

"Blow-out" Quandary... • Feb 09, 2017 09:05 PM

Advancing in the Big Dance is more about who's healthy, drawing good matchups (players and coaches), and to a lesser to degree the degree of "hotness" a team has, than the tendencies earlier in the season to blow leads, not play tough D, worry about off court issues, and the like.

If a key player(s) is fighting injuries or are really tired, our chances go way down (Embiid, sigh),

If we draw a team that we don't match up well against (Stanford's height in 2014. plus Embiid being out, sigh)

If we run into the on fire "who is that guy shooting lights out" who hits everything he throws up, our chances go down (see most inter-conference losses). And woe to the other team that experiences us with the "hotty" on a particular night.

So, barring key injuries, we overcome all bad match ups, and on-fire guys, and advance, As we've shown time and again, we can win tough games on the road in spite of those negative things we review in great detail on this site (luckily all teams have negative things!). This team has Final Four written all over it.

Half-full, half-empty, not as important as the fact that both can be refilled with a bit of luck. :four_leaf_clover:
