KU vs the Purps

No Fran guys! We lucked out!!!

Mark Neely & Miles Simon on call.

Now what do we expect tonight? A hungry team at home or a close game yet again? Going with a close game, its the only way we win these days

Frank with 25, Josh with 2 Top 10 worthy dunks.

Oh and someone on TCU will have a career day from 3, most likely Parrish or JD Miller.

Does Kenrich Williams still have his half-finished mop in the back of his head?

Also Slim Shadey makes his appearance in Lawrence for the first time (Fisher).

Let's wrap up #13

Feb 22, 2017 02:51 PM #2

@BeddieKU23 Tonight is the night Brandon Rush is surpose to get his Jersey hung in the rafters. - I believe they said it's the 1st cone since 03. - -Mario Chalmers is surpose to be here tonight too to watch the festivities. I hope that maybe we can have a little better games over 10 point outcome.

Subject was brought up again, yesterday on the sports call in I listen to. After we wrap up the championship, just how big is it or how much is it worth to win the Big 12 tourney championship? - -Points brought out like we are pretty much locked into a # 1 seed in the NCAA. So do we rest these guys? - -Frank, Devonte, Josh, Landen? - -give them some rest for the NCAA"s? let them recharge their batteries, so they can be more fresh for the tourney that REALLY matters?

I'm almost to the point like is being mentioned I'm almost agree it would be better to let them rest for a bit. So what if we don't win the Big 12 conf tourney, give these guys some extra rest.Start SVI. Vick, Bragg, Lightfoot or Coleby if anything let Frank and gang just play very spot minutes.- -I think along with many others maybe we SHOULD go that route, try to help dead legs - what you think? - - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

Feb 22, 2017 02:52 PM #3

Do we rush the court?

Feb 22, 2017 02:59 PM #4

9 consecutive wins against them... I say it's a close first half then we relax and pull away. DG finds his stroke again and hits 5 3's.

Down to the last two games in AFH games for most of our starters... and they make a statement (finally) against a lesser opponent.

Feb 22, 2017 03:56 PM #5

I'm going to the game tonight and I'm taking my 5-year-old daughter to her first game. I'm so psyched!

Little did I know when I bought these tickets several weeks back that we'd have a chance to wrap up at least a tie for the league title. And I just found out a few days back we'll be retiring Brandon Rush's jersey at halftime. It all sets up for a magical night in the Fieldhouse.

I hope the crowd is ridiculously loud as I've been trying to explain to my daughter just how crazy the atmosphere is. But, words are an inadequate substitute for actually being there. I'm looking for a high energy performance from the boys to close out #13, with lots of highlight reel plays. Regardless, I hope it's a night she will never forget!

Feb 22, 2017 03:58 PM #6

@jayballer54

First one since 2003? Mario's number was retired and his jersey raised at AFH in February of 2013...perhaps this is what you meant?

Feb 22, 2017 04:04 PM #7

@JayHawkFanToo ya it was 2013. - -Not sure what I was thinking of, I hate old age lol. - darn brain fades, the article was talking about how Mario was excited for Rush when he could get his SINCE Mario had his in 2013 - - my bad lol -- -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

Feb 22, 2017 04:04 PM #8

@tis4tim I'll be there too! Have ear plugs for daughter? Have fun!

Feb 22, 2017 04:05 PM #9

@nuleafjhawk I like that oh ya FOR SURE lol, rush the court, I mean why not everyone else rushes it for just a regular win against us. I'm just playin and I know toy are too just having fun. - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

Feb 22, 2017 04:08 PM #10

@tis4tim I wish I knew how to post a link here, Matt Scott on his twitter account has this post, something to the effect like you can't match the phog & it was all about the pre-game noise level and excitement it's really cool If ran it multiple times, - -Check it out on his twitter Matt Scott from the shiver - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

Middle of the week game against a lesser opponent. I'll be counting the empty seats at AFH tonight. My preliminary guess is 0, except for the VIP seats on the eastside bleachers after halftime for the folks still enjoying the food and beverages in the VIP Lounge and aren't aware that the second half has started. I was fortunate enough to wear one of those wristbands last year and was surprised no one told us the second half had started. My apologies for getting back to my seat late for the second half. It's a good thing Dick V didn't call me out.

Feb 22, 2017 04:23 PM #13

@stoptheflop

You mean the whine and cheese crowd seats? They probably go for at least $10K per seat contribution to the Williams fund and are bought by wealthy posers (or corporations) that want to see and be seen there but don't care much about basketball in the first place. I have seen couples sitting there with young kids that had their head buried on their IPads the entire game and couldn't care less about the game...what an effin' waste of good seats

Feb 22, 2017 04:27 PM #14

@JayHawkFanToo everyone is pretty crazy there! I don't see much of that.

Feb 22, 2017 04:34 PM #15

@tis4tim

Wow you really lucked out. Have fun!

Feb 22, 2017 04:35 PM #16

@BeddieKU23 forget me?😳

Feb 22, 2017 04:38 PM #17

@JayHawkFanToo Yes, the wine and cheese seats. After halftime, there are always several rows of courtside seats empty for several minutes into the second half for these late returners. It makes me smile every game.

Feb 22, 2017 04:39 PM #18

@Crimsonorblue22

I just saw your post, did you know Rush's Jersey was getting retired when you got them?

Feb 22, 2017 04:39 PM #19

@stoptheflop

Coach Williams used to call them the "whine" and cheese crowd...

Feb 22, 2017 05:04 PM #20

@BeddieKU23 my son had not given up the tickets yet so they were still available for me👍. Hoping to cut the nets down too! Up and back trip today and back Monday.

We've been going out to the tarmac at the airport for a few weeks now to watch and listen to the jet planes fly just above our heads as a test run for the noise at Allen Fieldhouse. I think she's ready!

You have fun as well! I'll look for you there. And considering I have no idea what you look like, it'll be pretty astounding should I happen to find you! :smile:

Will do! I don't get to go to many games because there's only so much in the budget with a couple rug rats to raise and tickets can be fairly pricey, but I try to get to a game every few years if I can. It's a real treat, for sure. I'm so looking forward to it!

Feb 22, 2017 05:20 PM #23

@jayballer54

Thanks, man! I'll look him up and check it out!

Feb 22, 2017 05:21 PM #24

@tis4tim Sounds like great family time. BUT - as a 5 year old, she probably won't fully appreciate the whole atmosphere thing. However, I am a huge fan of atmosphere. I would make the ultimate sacrifice and go to the game with you. I'm sure my wife would love to babysit.....

Feb 22, 2017 05:28 PM #25

@nuleafjhawk what a guy!😉

Feb 22, 2017 05:42 PM #26

@tis4tim

Congrats on taking your daughter to her first game!

I suggest you take a set of ear plugs for her. Hard to say how she deals with the sound level and you want to make sure her first experience is positive.

Feb 22, 2017 05:48 PM #27

@tis4tim

Here is a serious bit of advice, make sure you and particularly your daughter wear hearing protection. My audiologist indicated that even one exposure to loud noise ↗can cause permanent damage. I wish I would have known this when I did all that consulting work for the Air Force around fighter planes so I would not have to wear hearing aids now.

Feb 22, 2017 05:53 PM #30

I thought we retire jerseys only and not numbers except for Wilt? Anyone know?

Also, an article the other day about Rush's jersey had Self saying the criteria for retirement are fluid, and that there will be a couple more from the '08 team primarily based on what they did after that year. I assume those will be Aldrich and Collins.

Feb 22, 2017 05:58 PM #31

@mayjay

You are correct, only the jersey is retired. Rush wore #25 and shared that number with former KU greats Danny Manning and B.H. Born who I believe both had their jerseys retired as well.

I plan on taking ear plugs. Thanks to you and @Crimsonorblue22 and others for the very wise suggestion. Hearing damage is very serious and I sincerely hope I didn't offend you or others with my tarmac comment. I was trying to make a joke about how loud Allen Fieldhouse can be, but it was probably in poor taste all things considered. My sincere apologies.

Feb 22, 2017 06:45 PM #33

@StLJhawk Ugh, we lost to them only 9 games ago? Still in shock over the disaster in Fort Worth.

@nuleafjhawk We should have rushed the court when we beat WVU!

Feb 22, 2017 07:09 PM #34

@tis4tim Most definitely as @Crimsonorblue22 asked, please have some hearing protection from the noise for your daughter. Getting her used to noise is not the problem. Hearing loss is.

Feb 22, 2017 07:58 PM #35

@tis4tim And if you're sitting near @Crimsonorblue22 most definitely bring protection!

Feb 22, 2017 10:53 PM #36

@nuleafjhawk Only Brandon can "RUSH" the court!

Feb 22, 2017 11:10 PM #37

@tis4tim

No offense taken whatsoever. I wish I had used hearing protection back then...oh well too late for me by hopefully I can help someone else. :smile:

Feb 22, 2017 11:42 PM #38

@JayHawkFanToo Too bad on your hearing. I had a friend who was an Army Armor officer. He lost a lot of his hearing, but in one ear only, from the cannon on his tank because of the way he would stand and from not wearing the famed Michael Dukakis "ears". Forgot to mention it when he had his outprocessing physical, when it was probably only 15-20%. Grew to about 50 to 70% 15 years later. I grew to be very sympathetic with his problem--but it was kind of funny when his wife would reach over and turn his head so he could hear her. They always laughed.

Feb 22, 2017 11:48 PM #39

@mayjay

My hearing loss is not severe but enough that in a group setting it is difficult to make out the details or light sounds. I can function just fine without hearing aids and my world is much quieter without them since I cannot hear things like the clicking of the keyboard keys or the turn signal indicator. With hearing aids I can hear all these sounds and the world becomes a very, very loud place...oh well.

Feb 23, 2017 12:01 AM #40

I too have a significant hearing loss. I was at the KU/KSU game in AFH and was quite comfortable with the noise until Svi hit the game winning layup. Then it was HOLY SH_T, thay hurt!

Feb 23, 2017 12:10 AM #41

Where is everybody?

Feb 23, 2017 12:12 AM #42

@cragarhawk Until you're 42 and 6'10". Ouch.

Feb 23, 2017 12:18 AM #49

At 38 and a 20 year floor installer I already know ouch.. but I could dunk the ball in HS at 5' 10"

Feb 23, 2017 12:18 AM #50

That TCU player really thinks they're going to win. LOL

Feb 23, 2017 12:19 AM #51

Was that real hair or some kind of hair net?

Feb 23, 2017 12:21 AM #52

@mayjay Your friend can still go to the VA and probably get hearing aids. I retired from the AF in '87 and though I had some hearing loss it wasn't enough to warrant hearing aids or disability.. Over the years it became worse and after a review by the VA of my records and career fields that involved noisy conditions (not aircraft related) I was awarded 10% disability and hearing aids about 4 years ago.. And it was only one ear. Have him get in touch with his local state Dept of Veterans Affairs for assistance. I say state as the VA denied my original request and I turned everything over to my local rep and he took it from there. Only wish I had done it sooner as I paid for my own several years before to the tune of $5000.00.

Feb 23, 2017 12:23 AM #53

Like the energy but still very frustrated by the overhelping - given up three threes because of it. Isnt a three worth more than a two?

Feb 23, 2017 12:23 AM #54

@DoubleDD You mean on #34 for TCU? I was wondering the same thing.

Feb 23, 2017 12:24 AM #55

@tundrahok

Yea it looks fake. I can't tell.

Feb 23, 2017 12:24 AM #56

Off to locker room

Feb 23, 2017 12:24 AM #57

F bomb

Feb 23, 2017 12:25 AM #58

It got real quiet in Allen Fieldhouse.

Feb 23, 2017 12:25 AM #59

@Crimsonorblue22

He'll be alright.

Feb 23, 2017 12:26 AM #60

Giving up way too much dribble penetration.

Feb 23, 2017 12:26 AM #61

-9 rebounds... How are we gonna play a real basketball team..

Feb 23, 2017 12:27 AM #62

@cragarhawk

Real team? Um KU 4 and o against top 10

Feb 23, 2017 12:27 AM #63

@DoubleDD Thank you.

Feb 23, 2017 12:27 AM #64

@cragarhawk so baylor, wvu, Kentucky and duke don't count? Remember, ku is everyone's super bowl

Feb 23, 2017 12:29 AM #65

Oh carlton- great play, terrible play

Feb 23, 2017 12:30 AM #66

This game matters too. If you don't think getting outrebounded by a midmajor team in the second round of the tourney can cost you a season. You haven't been paying attention.

Feb 23, 2017 12:30 AM #67

Our slow starts are really getting old.

Feb 23, 2017 12:31 AM #68

And isn't it actually 5-2 vs the top ten?

Feb 23, 2017 12:31 AM #69

@stoptheflop well, the problem is shot making. This team has struggled the last three weeks or so shooting the ball. Can't have runs and quick starts without the ball going in the hoop.

Feb 23, 2017 12:31 AM #70

Shooting 30% meh

Feb 23, 2017 12:32 AM #71

Fisher is being allowed to shoot uncontested shots. Why does our defense stick at the beginning of AFH games?

Feb 23, 2017 12:32 AM #72

I suppose next we'll hear that winning the NC is the only thing that matters. Oh well...

Feb 23, 2017 12:32 AM #73

Is Bragg wearing skates? Slipping and falling.

Feb 23, 2017 12:32 AM #74

@cragarhawk

No you haven't been paying attention. KU has a limited bench. They can't just hang all that there. They have to pick they're moments. This isn't the typical Coach team. This one is special.

Feb 23, 2017 12:33 AM #75

Has Josh come back out?

Feb 23, 2017 12:33 AM #76

@stoptheflop overhelping my friend. I'm starting to think Self preaches protecting the paint over a wide open shot.

Feb 23, 2017 12:33 AM #77

KU isn't trying to win rebounding battles right now. Self has them more focused on defense than rebound so KU doesn't puck up cheap fouls fighting for rebounds and so they can get back on defense.

Feb 23, 2017 12:33 AM #78

Its not. But if it isn't the first thing on your list then why play? Isn't it what every teams goal should be?

Feb 23, 2017 12:33 AM #79

@JayhawksandChill But our Mr. Bragg is rebounding and scoring, 3 rbs and 6 pts.

Feb 23, 2017 12:34 AM #80

@DoubleDD no I pay attention real well. And if you play like this against a fundamentally sound and hungry mid major second round you go home. And I've seen it. Multiple times. And so have you. Don't need to pretend this is any different. Give credit where credit is due. But you don't if it isn't. That's a recipe for mediocrity

Feb 23, 2017 12:35 AM #81

Jackson back on the bench.

Feb 23, 2017 12:35 AM #82

Josh

Feb 23, 2017 12:35 AM #83

@cragarhawk

Sigh.

Feb 23, 2017 12:35 AM #84

Feb 23, 2017 12:35 AM #85

Feb 23, 2017 12:36 AM #86

Minor sprain of the lower ankle??

Feb 23, 2017 12:36 AM #87

Are you kidding me Bragg and more Bragg

Feb 23, 2017 12:37 AM #88

@cragarhawk

I bet you thought Danny and the Miracles would lose in the second round too?

Feb 23, 2017 12:37 AM #89

@DoubleDD you know there's a reason the word "miracles" is in there right?

Feb 23, 2017 12:38 AM #90

Josh!!!!

Feb 23, 2017 12:38 AM #91

Ankle is feelin just fine right now!

Feb 23, 2017 12:38 AM #92

@cragarhawk

Think about it. a system doesn't cut down the nets. A special team does. Happens every year.

Feb 23, 2017 12:39 AM #93

4 point play coming up!

Feb 23, 2017 12:39 AM #94

@DoubleDD oh okay. Well shit. I wonder why they didn't call every team "somebody and the miracles"? Could it be perhaps that I like 90 plus percent of the rest of the world didn't think that team would win the NC? Hmmm

Feb 23, 2017 12:39 AM #95

@cragarhawk

What you don't understand is this KU team isn't great at anything. Yet they can look death in the eye and not blink. That is special. They're tough.

Feb 23, 2017 12:41 AM #96

That's the start of his turnaround.

Feb 23, 2017 12:41 AM #97

@DoubleDD I understand it very well... And have likened then to the 2012 team myself. Have said on several occasions. If were within a bucket or two with a minute to go I like our chances 90 percent of the time.. but that does not mean you don't work on getting better at your deficiencies

Feb 23, 2017 12:42 AM #98

is it safe to come out now?

Feb 23, 2017 12:42 AM #99

Does anyone know where Fisher gets his ugly pills?

Feb 23, 2017 12:42 AM #100

@cragarhawk

You can't see greatness because you worried about rebounds. Have you notice that even coach doesn't give this team crap? In fact he defends them.

Feb 23, 2017 12:42 AM #101

Opponents just aren't intimidated by our team or AFH. All season the opponents have shot well and played well in AFH.

Feb 23, 2017 12:43 AM #102

@jessejayhawk bad form. your remark was really ugly.

Feb 23, 2017 12:43 AM #103

@DoubleDD

Actually this team is great at shooting threes.

Feb 23, 2017 12:43 AM #104

You're right. We shouldn't strive for excellence. In all facets of the game. Idk why I think that.

Feb 23, 2017 12:43 AM #105

@BShark Not past few weeks.

Feb 23, 2017 12:44 AM #106

@cragarhawk

How many perfect teams has KU had and lost? I found it appalling that you has a fan don't think this team doesn't strive. Lets just drop it.

Feb 23, 2017 12:46 AM #110

Rebounding and defense are so hard for this team

Feb 23, 2017 12:47 AM #111

Svi - didn't follow-up his shot nor did he get back - just kind of stood there. It came back his way and he could/should have gotten it to continue the possession...

Feb 23, 2017 12:47 AM #112

Also Josh should have put in the lay-up instead of passing to Svi. Lay-up is about 95% compared to Svi a 40% 3pt shooter

Feb 23, 2017 12:47 AM #113

Shooting % is even at 44%, but we are getting out rebounded by 8, 21 to 13

Feb 23, 2017 12:48 AM #114

If Bragg keeps playing like this. Man KU gets that much better.

Feb 23, 2017 12:50 AM #115

Nice finish

Feb 23, 2017 12:51 AM #116

You can tell by the way he loads it up when Frank's 3 ball is going down. Everytime

Feb 23, 2017 12:51 AM #117

Bragg is really stepping up, and at the right time.

Feb 23, 2017 12:51 AM #118

CARLTON

Feb 23, 2017 12:52 AM #119

Bragg is playing like a man tonight and using his 240 lb. frame like he should be.

Feb 23, 2017 12:52 AM #120

Wow, TCU scores 39 first half points against us. Who in the hell are these guys?

Feb 23, 2017 12:52 AM #121

Imagine how good this team will be once Devonte and Svi's shots start falling again. Bragg needs to go after the ball and be aggressive. He also needs to knock down those jumpers.

Feb 23, 2017 12:52 AM #122

@Texas-Hawk-10

Showing flashes here. I think he would really benefit from another year.

@stoptheflop said:

Wow, TCU scores 39 first half points against us. Who in the hell are these guys?

Defense has been reaaaaaally bad for KU.

Feb 23, 2017 12:53 AM #123

@stoptheflop guys who think they're in the super bowl.

Feb 23, 2017 12:53 AM #124

@BShark agreed. Gave up too much penetration.

Feb 23, 2017 12:54 AM #125

@stoptheflop Better than in Ft. Worth when TCU put up 44 in the 1st half.

Feb 23, 2017 12:54 AM #126

@Texas-Hawk-10 Yea for us, I guess.

Feb 23, 2017 12:54 AM #127

Really good to see Bragg step up. Last year he would have hit that little jumper though. Team Defense is still a work in progress, I guess.

Feb 23, 2017 12:54 AM #128

@jessejayhawk bad thing to say!

Feb 23, 2017 12:55 AM #129

@Hawk8086 he played well enough to stay on the floor longer. That's a positive step. Need more of that

Feb 23, 2017 12:55 AM #130

@HawkChamp The problem is also on the glass - gave up 11 offensive rebounds in the first half and got out rebounded by 9. That's tough to overcome game after game. Bragg and Jackson are doing a decent job, but not getting much help. Svi is 6-8, but provides no help with rebounding....

@DCHawker what would help is putting Coleby at the five and let Carlton be the stretch four. Know idea why coach doesn't do that.

Feb 23, 2017 12:59 AM #136

@Hawk8086 I don't know about "work in progress". Effort seems to be the main thing.

Feb 23, 2017 01:00 AM #137

@HawkChamp well said. They have shown they can play stellar D for stretches when they want to

Feb 23, 2017 01:03 AM #139

Are we just playing like an NBA team, where only the 4th Q matters? Damn, a decent lead at home would be nice for once. Whoops, we had a 12 points lead against I State.

Feb 23, 2017 01:03 AM #140

@BShark nice

Feb 23, 2017 01:04 AM #141

@jessejayhawk accepted

Feb 23, 2017 01:07 AM #142

@HawkChamp Fair enough. Maybe....the march toward playing consistent defense is a work in progress.

Feb 23, 2017 01:08 AM #143

Hey, I appreciate everyone being here and I enjoy your comments. Thanks.

Feb 23, 2017 01:09 AM #144

Oh my

Feb 23, 2017 01:10 AM #145

Moonlight Graham

Feb 23, 2017 01:11 AM #147

Frank is so good

Feb 23, 2017 01:11 AM #148

first runout of the game, right?

Feb 23, 2017 01:12 AM #149

There is just something so odd about this picture. At home - shooting 50% from 3 - against TCU! - and just up a deuce....

Feb 23, 2017 01:12 AM #150

Wonder if we could play D for like 1 possession

Rebounding and defense.

Feb 23, 2017 01:13 AM #152

Welcome back, Devonte.....you're a sight for sore eyes...

Feb 23, 2017 01:13 AM #153

Sadly, with this team playing in AFH I root for a 2 possession lead, which we finally have.

Feb 23, 2017 01:14 AM #154

@BShark Agree - the point is that it is so unlike the typical Self team - we just haven't seen this before...

Feb 23, 2017 01:14 AM #155

@cragarhawk they just don't want to expend much energy it seems. We have seen them when they know they need a stop, so it is within their ability to play lockdown D.

Feb 23, 2017 01:14 AM #156

Double OUCH, Lucas 0 points, and 1 rb.

Feb 23, 2017 01:14 AM #157

@HawkChamp

And that is the point.

Feb 23, 2017 01:14 AM #158

@HawkChamp that could be the whole deal. Self says save a lil energy tonight fellas. It crossed my mind

Feb 23, 2017 01:14 AM #159

@DCHawker the odd thing is that they are capable of it.

Feb 23, 2017 01:15 AM #160

@DCHawker

This KU team is a lot like the really good ISU teams. Though they never had a player like Josh.

Feb 23, 2017 01:15 AM #161

@HawkChamp said:

True.

Feb 23, 2017 01:16 AM #162

I give credit to TCU, only 5 turnovers and very few breakaways for us (one I think)

Feb 23, 2017 01:16 AM #163

Showtime!

Feb 23, 2017 01:16 AM #164

WOW

Feb 23, 2017 01:17 AM #165

I was gonna complain about Lucas not kicking it back out but that Josh dunk made me forget or something.

Feb 23, 2017 01:18 AM #166

What's this? A two possession lead at the break.

Feb 23, 2017 01:18 AM #167

Man this is a sight for sore eyes - defense leading to offense. Very nice

Feb 23, 2017 01:18 AM #168

@HawkChamp

08 team lived off this. Blew a lot of teams out by doing that. Gawd the 08 team was so good.

Feb 23, 2017 01:19 AM #169

Cole Aldrich the FOURTH big. We seem so far removed from that now.

Feb 23, 2017 01:19 AM #170

Fun here!

Feb 23, 2017 01:20 AM #171

@BShark yes. As evidenced by the last two minutes, this team is capable of that kind of play but they just dont do it often

Feb 23, 2017 01:20 AM #172

@HawkChamp said:

@DCHawker the odd thing is that they are capable of it.

They are, which is what makes it all the more frustrating. Literally long stretches where there is at best indifference on the defensive end. Maybe they are "pacing" themselves because of a lack of depth, but it just allows inferior teams to stick around - which has the perverse effect of requiring more energy... The only real complaint I have with HCBS this year is not stealing a few minutes from Coleby and/or Mitch each game and a bit of 3 out and 2 in just to allow a couple of minutes of rest for the primary 6 and lessen foul problems...

Feb 23, 2017 01:21 AM #173

@Crimsonorblue22 Way to rub it in Crimson. I have to wait until the post-game show to see Rush's ceremony. Have fun. I'm glad for you.

Feb 23, 2017 01:21 AM #174

@HawkChamp

Yeah defense is mostly an effort thing and it's harder when you only play 7 guys.

Feb 23, 2017 01:21 AM #175

Nice to see Devonte attacking. Excellent

Feb 23, 2017 01:22 AM #176

@Crimsonorblue22
Rub it in...

Feb 23, 2017 01:23 AM #177

Feb 23, 2017 01:24 AM #181

Trying to steal minutes with BIFM on the pine.

Feb 23, 2017 01:24 AM #182

Good Bragg. Attacking. I like it

Feb 23, 2017 01:24 AM #183

I don't like the gray jerseys. Bring back our home court whites

Feb 23, 2017 01:24 AM #184

Good move by Bragg.

Feb 23, 2017 01:24 AM #185

Wow, Lucas and Vick still with the old goose eggs in scoring.

Feb 23, 2017 01:26 AM #188

Nice Bragg...

Feb 23, 2017 01:27 AM #189

Svi with the swat and foul.

Feb 23, 2017 01:27 AM #190

SVIRASER!

Feb 23, 2017 01:27 AM #191

KU fans smile and be proud. We are seeing our beloved Bragg becoming a man.

Feb 23, 2017 01:27 AM #192

@DoubleDD we get more depth and yet another dimension if so

Feb 23, 2017 01:27 AM #193

TCU is a good little team. They have a couple quick little guards with a bunch of big bodies. They will make the tournament.

Feb 23, 2017 01:27 AM #194

Okay - I need to harp on Svi more often - wake him up. That's the first life I've seen out of him in the past half dozen games.

Feb 23, 2017 01:28 AM #195

@cragarhawk

You nailed it. If Bragg continues this effort. Then KU just got that much harder to beat.

Feb 23, 2017 01:28 AM #196

@DCHawker true that.

Feb 23, 2017 01:28 AM #197

@KUSTEVE they got work to do if they do. But it could happen

Feb 23, 2017 01:28 AM #198

Where did Svi learn how to play defense like that?????

Feb 23, 2017 01:29 AM #199

9 or 10 point lead.......hard to remember what that feels like...I like it.

Feb 23, 2017 01:29 AM #200

@KUSTEVE said:

Dixon can coach. Pitt is derp.

Feb 23, 2017 01:29 AM #201

Carlton still needs to quit fumbling the ball. Does that every game

Feb 23, 2017 01:30 AM #202

@Hawk8086 Good for the blood pressure.

Feb 23, 2017 01:30 AM #203

@Hawk8086 Well, it wasn't THAT long ago - ISU - and we know how that turned out. Just for once, I would love to see us stretch a lead out to 20 points. How long has that been. November???

Feb 23, 2017 01:30 AM #204

@HawkChamp time and touches in the game will remedy that... This year's Cole Aldrich? Come on just at the right time?

Feb 23, 2017 01:30 AM #205

Bad shot by Svi. Ball didnt go inside

Feb 23, 2017 01:30 AM #206

Svi wants to block everything.

Feb 23, 2017 01:31 AM #207

Guarded shots are inhibiting the growth of the lead

Feb 23, 2017 01:32 AM #208

@HawkChamp Agreed. We're settling for jump shots instead of working for the easy shot.

Feb 23, 2017 01:32 AM #209

wtf

Feb 23, 2017 01:32 AM #210

Thunder dunk there.. lol

Feb 23, 2017 01:33 AM #211

@BShark Pitt had stagnated and was beginning to regress, it was time for them to move on from Dixon.

Feb 23, 2017 01:34 AM #212

Now Lucas wants to dunk everything. Bragg nipping at his heels. Win/win Jayhawk fans.

Feb 23, 2017 01:34 AM #213

@Texas-Hawk-10

How are they doing under Stallings? Some schools need to know their role. NC State has this problem too. Making the tournament most years should be their goal.

Feb 23, 2017 01:34 AM #214

Ticky tacky foul call.

@Texas-Hawk-10 said:

He's a good coach, but couldn't recruit well enough to consistently succeed against the Duke and Carolinas.

Feb 23, 2017 01:36 AM #216

@DCHawker

Absolutely true but when you are Pitt I think you have to be okay with that.

Feb 23, 2017 01:36 AM #217

Pick your poison. LOL

Feb 23, 2017 01:36 AM #218

Feb 23, 2017 01:36 AM #219

CARLTON BUCKETS BRAGG

Feb 23, 2017 01:37 AM #220

Bragg working on a DD. Confidence builder. Need that

Feb 23, 2017 01:37 AM #221

Everyone is doing a good job of finding Bragg open. Wow 13 points and 7 rbs.

Feb 23, 2017 01:37 AM #222

According to this commercial Bruce Weber must have a LOT of character.

Feb 23, 2017 01:37 AM #223

Bragg is getting better. He is attacking more but needs to utilize his post game more.

Feb 23, 2017 01:38 AM #224

JJ on the cusp of another double double - and, Bragg not far behind - who'd a thunk it??? Preseason yes, but recently???

Feb 23, 2017 01:38 AM #225

@stoptheflop going mon too! I'm on top row driving back tonight

Feb 23, 2017 01:38 AM #226

This is the type of game that Bragg needed..

Feb 23, 2017 01:38 AM #227

@HawkChamp

I really want to see Bragg stay and play with a hopefully healthy Doke.

Feb 23, 2017 01:38 AM #228

@stoptheflop devonte is hitting his shots, and bragg is resurrected....this is GREAT news...

Feb 23, 2017 01:39 AM #229

VICK!!!!!!!!

Feb 23, 2017 01:39 AM #230

Can we PLEASE keep the foot on the accelerator!!!

Feb 23, 2017 01:41 AM #233

@stoptheflop

Except that comment. LOL

Feb 23, 2017 01:41 AM #234

TCU has 15 points in 13 minutes so far this half. SEEMS NOT VERY GOOD.

Feb 23, 2017 01:41 AM #235

If for no other reason, it's been forever that our end of bench guys have seen the floor!!!

JOSH

Feb 23, 2017 01:43 AM #238

We've completely closed the rebounding gap this half - perhaps a point of emphasis at halftime?

Feb 23, 2017 01:44 AM #239

Fancy passing...

Feb 23, 2017 01:44 AM #240

Quickly how many 4 year KU players in this record tying conference streak? Four rings for four years.

Feb 23, 2017 01:49 AM #252

Who is this guy Bragg - did we just pick him up off of waivers???

Feb 23, 2017 01:49 AM #253

Confidence

Feb 23, 2017 01:49 AM #254

Rebounding is better. Still allowing blowbys occassionally.

Feb 23, 2017 01:50 AM #255

@DCHawker hubba, hubba....

Feb 23, 2017 01:50 AM #256

Feb 23, 2017 01:55 AM #267

Feb 23, 2017 01:55 AM #268

If this is KU playing loose with no pressure, I like what I see!

Feb 23, 2017 01:55 AM #269

DAMN RIGHT MILES SIMON

Feb 23, 2017 01:58 AM #277

A walk-on scoring was nice, but the building would have exploded if Tyler hit that three.

Feb 23, 2017 02:00 AM #286

First blow out in a long time. Need to can that second half performance. Very solid

In no particular order Mason, Mario, Paul, Nick and Danny. Those are my five favourite Hawks. Who the rest of ya got?

I love Josh as much as I can for an OAD. If he were here at a different time, he'd have top 5 fave Hawk potential.

Feb 23, 2017 02:05 AM #299

Feb 23, 2017 02:05 AM #300

@JayHawkFanToo Their fanbase didn't think they'd win.

Feb 23, 2017 02:06 AM #301

Embiid is the other OAD that I love. Shame he got hurt.

My favourite glue n grit 5 year Hawks: Brady, Releford, Lucas.

Feb 23, 2017 02:12 AM #302

Is everyone watching the post-game show? I'm anxious to see the Rush ceremony.

Feb 23, 2017 02:14 AM #303

@BShark

Mason, Mario, Sherron, Robinson, Hinrich. I know a lot of recent guys but Josh would be 6th with a chance to keep moving up. The way Josh played tonight reminds me of Lebron. Does it all

Feb 23, 2017 02:15 AM #304

A really big difference for Brodziansky: only 8 pts and 2 rebs. But 4 blks.

Feb 23, 2017 02:17 AM #305

My boy @KirkIsMyHinrich approves of your list. For those early 00 teams Nick really stuck with me and is just such a great guy in general.

Sherron and TRob were close for me. TRob was a warrior and went through so much. He would probably be my #6.

Feb 23, 2017 02:18 AM #307

@brooksmd Thank you. I didn't mention he spent a few years getting the disability claim approved but it eventually was. The problem was his failure to document it on his way out. They went back through his tecords to determine how many concussive blasts his ears had gone through. Glad you finally got it done.

@BeddieKU23

100% man. TRob almost got that ring too, just ran into THE BEAST that happened to be the apex of Squid teams that year.

I guess UK will back out of the Champions Classic now. As Coach and KU are rising. Classic UK when somebody starts getting the best of them they run and hide.

Josh Jackson messing with us in the post-game interview saying he might "possibly" come back next year for a run at championship number 14.

@stoptheflop that would be sweet but it won't happen. If any OAD has the right personality and mindset to decide to come back, it is josh.

Feb 23, 2017 02:45 AM #321

@BeddieKU23 Man, that's priceless! Awesome!

this will sound weird, but one of the reasons we reached #13 is because of TCU -- or more specifically, Jamie Dixon who has raised the level of play of the worst team in the league significantly in one year while the others have remained more or less where they were.. The improvement at from the "bottom" has put additional pressure on all the teams -- It's simply more competitive from top to bottom.

For a team like KU, we take every team's best shot every game. We're used to playing 16 games with teams close to their ceiling. But the other teams aren't used to such consistent competition night-in and night-out. So WVU, Baylor and ISU have faltered to 'lesser' teams because they weren't used to such resistance.

While those teams haven't broken the streak, they'll all be better for it during the tournament.

Sounds like great family time. BUT - as a 5 year old, she probably won’t fully appreciate the whole atmosphere thing. However, I am a huge fan of atmosphere. I would make the ultimate sacrifice and go to the game with you. I’m sure my wife would love to babysit…

Between time spent on this message board and the board at the "other site" years ago, I've been a poster long enough to know that you seem like a genuinely good dude and someone that would probably be a blast to hang out with or go to a game with. That said, I do have family obligations that make it difficult to pass tickets down to non-family members. However, because I admire your desperate willingness to make major sacrifices on behalf of our beloved Jayhawks I've got a couple options that will improve your ticket priority should the opportunity arise in the future:

  1. Donate to the tis4tim fund. It's a sure-fire way to move you to the top of the priority list.

  2. A substantial donation notwithstanding, I decided I'm still going to move you up the list and pencil you in between my third uncle twice removed and my daughter's goldfish, Mr. Bubbles, Jr.

Sound good?

@tis4tim and @nuleafjhawk I'm pretty sure you guys are related so you should definitely go to a game together... and take me!

Feb 25, 2017 01:00 AM #329

@tis4tim Soooooooo - did your daughter enjoy the game? I sincerely hope that she did and that this will spark a lifetime of RCJH Crimson and Blue adventures for her.

That being said - I still think you should have taken me.....

She did indeed, though climbing on railings, walking up steps and standing on the bleachers was probably just as much fun for her as the game. But she really got into it in the second half and hearing her yell "Come on, Mason!" was fun to see.

I've lived a lot of places over the years, but any local sports was always secondary to my hometown teams (Royals, Chiefs, Jayhawks) and I have no doubt that wherever my kids go when they leave home they'll always have a soft spot for KU. Eighteen years of indoctrination makes that conclusion inevitable!
