KU vs TCU game is on ESPN2 at 1:30pm central time Thursday March 9th

Your time cant be right if ISU vs OSU is 12:30 no way KU plays at 1:30, 3 maybe but no way a game takes 1 hour.

The times in the bracket are likely EST and the KU game time is CST. Therefore, KU is scheduled to play at 2:30 EST or 1:30 CST giving the prior game 2 hours to finish. It won't and KU will likely start around 2:00 CST

There's only one I truly care about. 1:30 central time is the listed start time. It'll likely be a little late unless the earlier game is a laugher.

No one has mentioned it that I see but we will be playing TCU tomorrow. They handled OU rather easily, which surprised me with how well OU had been playing.

One thing I noticed on my trips to Hawaii and Chicago this winter was that the times listed for games on the ESPN.com Scoreboard would change to my local time depending on where I was regardless of where the games were played. But only if my phone Time settings were set to the local Time Zone. If I was on Automatic, the scoreboard showed ET for all games. I doubt that the CBS schedule is done the same. I don't think it is East Coast bias except insofar as it is an outgrowth of the original style of network schedules where they always said on national broadcasts, for example, "9 Eastern time, 8 Central." With the web, not knowing where people are when they read it, for consistency, I notice most programming listings on national sites use Eastern and then everybody can adjust depending on where they are. Mountain and Pacific use different delays than Central. (ESPN's must use a system that plugs in the time zone based on feedback from my phone.)

For sports listings involving live broadcasts rather than the delays in TV programs, I think they should base it on the venue site, but the people doing these things seem to enjoy proving that "a foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds." Unfortunately, when they don't add the time zone designation, it can look dumb and be confusing, as with that CBS one.

Update to my other post: I am in the Eastern time zone as you know. CBS scoreboard showed all games as Eastern but with no designation of what zone.

I reset my phone's time zone to Central rather than Eastern, and when I opened up the scoreboard on CBS again, the times first showed Eastern, and then every game started switching to an hour earlier. So it is based on phone setting for them, too.

Might want to check your setting before the big tourney begins. Seems odd they can't just add the time zone itself.

I'm at work, watching on ESPN3, but it's weird. No announcers, strange camera angle, all from above or behind the basket.

I'd almost prefer to hear Fran and see the game from mid-court perspective. The camera follows the ball and I can't see what everybody else is doing. It's weird.

I've never understood this WSU animus - other than I get Marshall can be irritating (but he's a damn good coach). Would WSU have anything close to the record they do if they played in almost any other conference? Almost certainly not, especially as they didn't beat any of the better teams they played earlier in the year. Having said that, I've watched them a couple of times and think they are a really solid team and will be a tough out. I would really not want to play them as a 8-9 seed as many have projected them - they're better than that. But, I would love to play them in the Final Four!!!

I think the conference title means a lot to the players. They need to show that they at least care this 2nd half.

I don't know about faith, but they've demonstrated they are perfectly capable of coming back. The issue is the constant digging of deep holes. TCU is a decent team, but that's it. Average 74 points a game. They're going to blow by that at this point. Shooting 56%. There really isn't much excuse for the less than lackluster effort (or at least results) on the defensive end....

3 stupid plays in the final minute, Mason with a lob 6 feet too high to Vick, Svi driving in to 3 guys for a turnover and Svi tackling a guy on a prayer that missed. The refs kept us in it anyway with cheap fouls.

Everyone's blaming Svi for a silly foul but DG and Vick didn't do too much themselves. Svi at least put up 18 DG was ice cold and Vick airballed a 1 foot shot late.

Imo Lucas is our best offensive post too. Not because he is the most skilled (that's probably Bragg) but because he is the smartest and the hardest working. The offense in general flows better with Lucas in the game.

The bright side to this is that it won't affect seeding and we avoid the risk of injury until the Dance. But - and I know I'm a broken record on this - this game highlighted our very real weaknesses and vulnerabilities. We can beat anyone in the country, but we aren't anything close to a dominant team - we simply aren't going to blow anyone out. Yes, we can close, but skating close to the edge game in and game out is a recipe for disaster. Worth noting that other teams that are NC aspirants like Villanova, UNC and Oregon blew out their opponents today - and, in UNC's case, a pretty solid Miami team. They took care of business; we did not. Sure, we were without JJ, but is that an excuse for giving up as many easy points as we did?

Again, I hope this is a wake-up call for these guys that short bench notwithstanding, we can't afford to coast during games - we certainly can't afford to give up 16-3 runs and get just 2 baskets in a 10 minute span against an average team.

I remain optimistic, because we can beat anyone, but I won't be surprised if we lose early, either --- unless, all of the sudden, out of nowhere, we find a renewed commitment to playing defense.....

I can understand why some of us arent happy, they played harder than we did for most of the game. I've said it a thousand times as does coach Self-rebounding is how you tell how hard you played, it 10% skill and 90% want to. I've also said the worst thing this team can do is get up early, we have blown leads of 10 points all season and for the second time it bit us in the butt. Hopefully its a lesson, YOU HAVE TO PLAY HARD EVERY MINUTE if you want to win in march period.

I've predicted 7 or 8 losses. Certainly predicted today as a win. I don't think that's far off the mark with the statistical profile of this team, and that they have been a bit lucky at times + AFH factor.

@BShark just as a reference, watched a Coach Marsha game(cup cake opponent) and with 10 min left Schlockers were up 15 and Coach called a timeout and chewed butt because the team was playing soft. gotta play smart and tough for 40 to win, especially with the target that we have on our back.

In fact I loved that fact he had the tenacity to go up and block that 3 point shot. That doesn't happen very much. I do not want that to be KU. We would never outlive that hanging around our neck. Every team in the Dance can get hot from 3. A flat game by their opponent and it will happen. Then every year at tourney time, that is all the talking heads would be talking about for eons to come. Even winning the first game, I would rather play the 7-10 than the 8-9. It' the AFC Championship Game all over again. Wow. Opponent pulls our player down on top of them and we lose. What in the world is going on with that.

Not worried about this loss in the least. It helps KU if anything. I've never seen Self call a timeout when we're a stoppage-of-play away from the TV TO just to get guys rest.

Now, rest up. Throw away the garbage alternate uniforms, don't drive anywhere and focus.

This is the problem with NCAA March Madness. You can't reward a team for ONE big win, and then penalize an extremely consistent team for one bad loss. We all know KU will pay hell for this loss. Bill Self himself even said KU was not deserving of overall #1 seed. I knew this sheet would happen after the stupid #1 OVERALL albatross seed.

I am with you. Now, the team has gotten the loss out of its system and does not have to worry about a streak. Hopefully they can now relax some, rest and concentrate in winning the next 6 games instead of the next 8.

I still think we get the one seed in the Midwest. UNC ain't gonna take the Midwest.

@mayjay I'm a glass half full guy and I still think KU is Final 4 bound but that Kentucky team lost to Vandy in the SEC Finals. Not saying you are wrong but ESPN is. Not sure if the UNC star they provided is accurate either.

Doesn't matter. I agree that the sky isn't falling. Lots of season left in my mind.

I really don't care that KU lost today. That's potentially 2 extra games of wear and tear with a 7 man rotation KU doesn't have to deal with. KU may not end up the overall 1 seed, but I don't care because KU will still be a 1 seed in the Midwest which means a path through Tulsa and KC which is more important anyway. When you get to the Elite 8 level, it's generally a top 10 caliber team as an opponent at that point anyway. I'd rather have the 2 extra days to rest up and let the nagging injuries have a chance to recuperate some.

@truehawk93 TCU is a good team. They just didn't close well in a bunch of tight B12 games. If winning one more gets them on the bubble with 20 wins, I hope they win.

The ViewFromVegas is the Horned Frogs did it as 9-point underdogs and as high as +400 on the money line at the Westgate and MGM sports books. ESPN's Joe Lunardi says Kansas will still be a No. 1 seed. If that's the case, Handicapper Marc Lawrence passes on a tidbit that five No. 1 seeds lost in the first round of their conference tourneys (2011 Pittsburgh being the most recent) and none made the Final Four.

Actually, I think they were ranked #1 at the time that they lost in the their conference tourneys.

But, I don't get why this is or has to be a black or white or pollyana-ish vs. bitching and moaning dichotomy. On the one hand, as reflected in the fun fact to know and tell, this loss doesn't have a direct impact on what happens in the tourney. Yes, UK and UNC lost and went on to win it all. And, KU has done well in the tournament in instances where it didn't when the B12 tourney.

But to say that the game today is wholly irrelevant is perhaps a bit delusional? I don't think HCBS would agree that it was irrelevant - he was certainly fired up and had a pretty good perspective afterwards. I don't think Frank thought it was irrelevant. The concern is what it revealed and what it augurs for the Big Dance. What is revealed about a fairly consistent pattern of pattern of performance.

To be clear, we lost to a team that had lost 7 consecutive games to end the regular season. We gave up 85 points to a team that had not scored more than 74 during its losing streak - that had only broken 70 points twice. We allowed easy baskets at the rim and wide-open 3s - as Self noted.

If we're being honest with ourselves, do we really think that kind of defensive performance is likely to lead to a deep tournament run? And, this game wasn't a one-off in that regard. It is simply a fact that no team in the past 15 years has won the national title with a Kenpom defensive efficiency rating at low as ours is now (30). Not saying it can be done; it would simply be unprecedented.

At least until today, we demonstrated the ability to tighten up and get stops at the end of games - but to allow way too many easy baskets before then - which allows teams to hang around and runs the real risk of a couple of breaks not going our way resulting in a L.

Don't get me wrong - I like to watch this team. Frank is a warrior and easy to root for. JJ is a real alpha dog. I like the never say die attitude (excepting Morgantown). I love the fact that HCBS has been willing to depart from rigid adherence to his system to adapt to the talent and personnel he has. Of course, we will root for the Hawks through thick and thin.

At least I don't mean to belittle or denigrate anyone by making observations about what I see on the court and how it compares and contrasts to other teams and what it might mean for our tournament prospects. IMHO, unless we are, as HCBS said after the game - able to "tighten up a few things" then a deep run would be a hope more than an expectation. Just one persons opinion. But, I will be watching and rooting (and undoubtedly getting a few more gray hairs along the way).....

We haven't had much to debate this year:

Self adjusted like he never has before to our personnel

Our bench has been so thin there's been no debate over who should play.

And we've witnessed our best OAD and a POY performances in recent history.

Been lots of sunshine but there have been clouds all along the way with tight games, but for the most part, clouds have parted and the sun came back out.

Today though shows that a piece of the puzzle is out of place, you don't get to see it to the end.

Upcoming tournament can deal that out of alignment situation very easily:

Hot shooting team, uneven or even biased reffing, injury. We're dancing on a razors edge from here on out. I'm hoping we skate into the winners circle on that edge.

But, feel free to go read the opening comments of many a game thread. I think some names might begin to reveal themselves.

But I can read past those posts AND DO. What I find annoying is that some of these same sunshine crew will jump personally the comments and posters that don't share their eternal optimism.

That's really the gist of my comment. The irony of extreme negativity rained down upon the heads of the less optimistic.

Btw, enjoying the posting that I missed before, during and after the game.

I'm not at all sad, no, strike "sad" and insert, mad at this loss.

I'm glad for the added rest and hopefully greater motivation for the big dance.

Wouldn't be upset if we scrapped the post season Big 12 tourney except that I enjoy watching the games and it does provide more opportunity for that.

@HighEliteMajor I am with you - I don't give a flip about the conference tourney. It really is a waste of time. The loss today was a great reminder for our guys that they need to play good defense to win. Can't just hope the other team misses.

If they make it to the final four, no one will remember or care. If not, well then plenty of discussion will arise.

@approxinfinity I don't care much about TCU overall. I am more concerned of how this loss to #9 will impact our overall entry into the DANCE. If your logic were taken into consideration with the committee @approxinfinity, I wouldn't have a problem at all. However, the committee is under extreme pressure from bball fans to reward and penalize teams. KU is always the whipping boy, and scapegoat for them. KU is always pretty much the team under the gun to suffer in the eyes of the committee. Just read Lunardi's logic. Right or wrong, he does have his finger on the committee's pulse. He obviously isn't the final decision maker at all, but his thinking is pretty much consistent with most people. They will throw KU's entire season out and reward some team they all want to advance for some reason. They can afford to impose some "loss" justification and satisfy the whine bags that demand teams get what they want.

This is going to be an interesting bracket year. You have four top teams: Nova, Zags, KU, and UNC. I just hope the boyz show up and play.

@dylans I would say so. If KSU and TCU lose tonight, which I'm betting on I bet we only get 5. KSU is the last team in currently, if Indiana, TCU, California or Houston win I could see them getting bounced out or with Illinois State sitting second team out jumping ahead with KSU losing because they are 22 spots higher in RPI. KSU to me doesn't deserve the bid unless they win tonight, why reward mid major non conference schedule.

@cragarhawk I don't think they should because of the typewriter maintenance league non conference schedule. With TCU, California, Indiana, Seton Hall (not really a bubble team but should've beat Nova to get to championship) and Houston all bubble teams out going into today, with them losing they have a good shot getting in. It's pretty much between them and Illinois State IMO for that final spot. I'd choose Illinois State if it was me, they have a better RPI and have lost 2 games to WSU and thats it since before Christmas. While as KSU limped in to the post season,even with the Baylor win they have lost 6 of 10, including 3 at home.

ISU wins a good game vs WVU to win 3 of the last 4 B12 tournaments. We need to pick it up, this is in our own backyard. They really haven't done jack but 1 sweet 16 in the dance in that time period, but I like to win lol.
