This is good for our guys and will help us in the tournament. Baylor has almost unmatched length and they are skilled as well. Unlike in previous years, Baylor and West Virginia started strong and stayed strong and are legitimate top ten teams. This will be beneficial for us.

I missed the earlier chat. Were you guys tearing Svi a new one? Dude needs to stop being so damn timid. Where's Big Shot Svi from last game? People were getting double teamed, getting it over the top to Svi so should have been 4 on 3 and Svi looked lost with the ball, let them recover.

@approxinfinity I agree, our guards were passing up numerous shots they could have taken.

We also need to do a better job on the ball screens and dribble penetration. That has put us in some tough spots and led to Baylor scores.

I'm with @DoubleDD ... Not in that bad of shape. We shot poorly, threw away easy points, and they got at least 6 points after what should have been obvious travel calls.

So, he has gotten a lot of deserved criticism, so let's also give credit where it's due. He has no Mickey D's and he has the 2nd ranked team in the country. Post bench is a huge issue. I think 5 guys is fine for a perimeter rotation though it would be nice to have a 6th guard just for blowout/breather purposes.

That was a much tougher Faylor team than we've seen. We did a great job of taking the game away from them. We really have a tough minded team- JJ, Frank, and Devonte are simply incredible. This is a real good team.

In the olden days (my youth), when teams played 2 guards, 2 forwards, and a center, I think the guards were the back court and the center and two forwards were considered front court.

Not going to claim that he is a great or even very good Xs and Os coach, but what talent? Does he have anyone on this team that was a top 50 ranked player coming in? Either way you slice it, this ain't your big brother's Baylor Bears. These guys are tougher. They DID benefit from some horrible-looking bank threes, but we also benefited from some bad calls. Props to them tonight. It's a two-horse race. If we can figure a way to beat them on the road, that should at least seal a share for us.

I noticed afterwards that Self was slightly more cordial to Drew afterwards. Playing Drew's zone probably bridges the gap a bit between the two in Self's mind.

Agree. I'm not a huge fan of Drew but the job he has done with this team is tremendous. As I mentioned earlier in the thread he has three players that would very likely be at KU if KU didn't basically pass on them in Freeman, Wainright and McClure. Well, Freeman and McClure could have easily been Jayhawks, not sure KU ever showed much interest in Wainright.

So let's look at what Drew has on this team. Lucas type of ranking PG in Lindsey, fringe top 75 kid McClure (fell off late after starting higher in rankings), fringe top 300 Maston, JUCO scrub Omat, JUCO , NR JUCO Acuil, Top 150 Motley, and top 75 guards Wainright and Freeman both of whom slumped in the rankings iirc. Drew had this team on the precipice of being the #1 team in the country and was #1 earlier. Hell of a job.

Edit I forgot Lecomte, TOP 300 GUARD coming out of hs.

@kjayhawks I hear ya. If I recall correctly, didn't Motley get all his points posting up against our bigs? I know in the 2nd half he eventually did get touches but we doubled him. Then the one time we didn't double him, he scored.

Josh isn't a post-up big, he's obviously more of a small 4 in a 5-guard lineup. I think Josh is the PERFECT zone-buster because of his passing ability (in addition to his scoring) and knew he'd have a great game tonight.

Motley simply isn't as talented as JJ, so that's part of it. Should Motley have known how to pass out of a double-team? Yeah, probably. But he just didn't. I think that's where the coaching comes from. At the end of the day, Motley's a post player and it's tough to post in a zone, particularly when double-teams are flying at you and you don't know how to pass out of it.

You're not going to get a ton of FT's if you're just jacking up jump shot and the other team is driving the lane to force the issue. There were a ton of no calls though during the first half especially when the refs just let them play.

I think Baylor has some stats guys that actually know what they're doing, hence the appropriate lineup selection for tonight. Also, it seems that they're doing a good job of finding talent in the haystack.

Coaching is what wins you these games though, and we saw that tonight with the adjustments in the second half. Very proud of Vick and Svi for making some defensive plays tonight. We couldn't have done it without those guys (as well as Jackson) defending some of Baylor's taller players effectively tonight. That said, there were still dumb plays like the missed dunk and getting pegged out of bounds. Those can't happen late in March. Everyone made some pretty dumb plays tonight though.

@betterfireE it seems like our guys cant keep themselves from making silly plays. But maybe one of these days it will get better.

Big difference in rebounding between the halves. Baylor with a lot more rebounds in the first half bu KU ended up with more for the game.

Also, before we anoint Drew a good coach, keep in kind that he hired a new assistant to work with the bigs and this is why they are playing well and he might be also calling the game early and then Drew takes over and screws it up.

Earlier they showed where they took the front line from Baylor (3 players) had them spread their arms touching at the finger tip and measured 21 feet and 8 inches or an average of over 7 feet...that is one tall line with a huge wingspan.

@kjayhawks JJ moves like a 🐱 cat to get open catches in that zone. He's athletic & tall enough to give the passer great angles & he is, so far, damn near unstoppable. He's at the FT line, on the baseline, he's like crap 💩 in the pasture on offense in a zone- He's everywhere. Plus he can drive it, post up, drain trifectas, or flush like a Kohler. JJ is badass & "Big time"- I think that's what some one called him tonite- big time. We're gonna go as far as he can take us this year & that very well could be the NC. That young man is the one to put a team over the top We haven't seen that many OADs fit in like he does at Kansas. RCJH!

This game was more important to us than to Baylor, so I'm glad we won.. The back half of the conference schedule is tougher than the front-half, so we have done what we needed to, but will still have to play inspired basketball to get #13.

this was a Huge win for us! Huge! Lando came up clutch in the final 2 minutes. Josh was the best player on the court, FRank had another killer second half to close it.

2-1 in the last 3 games. Cant ask for too much more than that fellow jayhawk fans.

@bskeet Hasn't KU played everyone once? So the back half should be easier. No at WVU, no Hilton. Hardest games are WVU at Allen and KSU and Baylor on the road. There's the annual stumbling block at OSU, but all these games are very winnable.

There will be a few really cute gals that turn repulsive when they open their emaws to reveal no teeth. There will be lots of pre-game smack talk and no acknowledgement of the loss afterwards, just lots of excuses. The crowd will be very quiet near the end of the game as KU extends its lead... The court will empty of players and the fans will exit in an orderly fashion.

@approxinfinity I would classify SF as backcourt in most cases. But...he is a 3-4 type player. But with BU's size inside, he would/should be in the backcourt in my book at BU.

I would need more context of the comment. But who knows, the media and analysts say the dumbest things.
