@drgnslayr hopping a flight to Mexico right now...
Gorgeous. Where do you get the scoop on stuff like this? I need a pair off the black market.
"And don’t bring that weak Frank Kaminsky B.S. in here."
Haha, that's funny. And I agree with you, apples and oranges.
Well said. The end of Bad Ball can't come soon enough for me.
More proof that jaybate's analysis is second to none.
Bill Self is hard to read. On the one hand, he plays everything off with casual panache. On the other, he's a gritty competitor greedy for wins. I'm starting to realize his ultra laid back persona is just an ingenious ruse to make his driven ambition for Ws more palatable.
Same song and dance with the WUG.
Now that I'm onto him, I'm ok with that.
In an article on The Other Site, Self has this to say about WUG & recruiting.
The Jayhawks have played their games on national TV on ESPNU, but that doesn't necessarily mean they’re getting an edge in recruiting.
“I don’t know if it helps a lot because all the recruits are somewhere else playing,” Self said. “You’ve got all the kids in the under-19 games that we’re recruiting and you have different camps going on. But I do think this: If we’re fortunate enough to advance, I think it’ll start gathering some attention and a lot of eyes will be on what we’re doing.
“Winning a medal in these games would really, I think, help our recruiting quite a bit.”
<<<
Notice how he's already way more forthright than Coach K. I wonder if he's thinking primarily about international recruits or whether he thinks it'll translate into stateside hype.
Noticed Vick was the high scorer, which was unexpected. From the game report, I'll bet he scored a ton of transition baskets. Low tallies for Mason. Sounds like he was happy running the show and setting up his teammates for easy baskets.
For you social media users, Rustin Dodd is broadcasting video of this game live via his smartphone using the (free) Periscope app.
Last night I couldn't believe how high Tuner went. Tried to comment on it a couple times but the site was balky so I gave up in disgust. Didn't see it coming at all. Maybe it'll fan Oubre's flame...he wasn't happy about falling out of the lottery, you could see it all over his face ( if not his shoes).
@Crimsonorblue22 That's ridic.
@Lulufulu I'd kill to see Paul Pierce on the bench. Recruits wouldn't be able to handle The Truth.
@Texas-Hawk-10 He's a cut below Graham for sure. I'm thinking he's likely the kind of guy who can come in for a few minutes and give someone a blow without hurting the team.
Definitely no Graham replacement.
Maybe he won't see the court unless someone gets injured.
Sounds like what I call, in recruiting for my rec league team, a "net neutral."
@Crimsonorblue22 I'm in favor of stuffing the league with as many as possible!
Cmon over, Sasha! No idea where he might land but it would add interest to the NBA landscape for sure.
This guy probably won't light it up but he's a senior so he probably won't hurt us either.
Thanks, Joe Dooley.

Bill Self is way ahead of you. That's how we got the Morris twins, remember?
@dylans Nice to see UK on that list since we have a string of head-to-head recruiting wins over the squid of late. No doubt Jackson will be the newest addition to Self's streak. 😀
I know Self has talked about Perry playing the 3 in the League and I even remember him saying something about sliding Perry over now and then...the sound byte was maybe towards the end of last season? Someone can corroborate me on that if the words actually left Self's mouth...I think they did.
That said, I'll believe it when I see it. :p
Great write-up. Bolden & Jackson are at the top of my list. Re: Jackson, I'd willingly trade in a percentage of Wiggins' bounce for a heightened level of aggressiveness.
@Crimsonorblue22 I'd love to see that line-up! Perry needs to get some reps at the 3 to help his NBA resume.
@Crimsonorblue22 Right on, I'll root for those guys too. Doubt BenMac has the star power that 'Biid will when healthy, though. Wiggy could lead his team to the playoffs and I hope he does so I can back a team with a dinosaur mascot.
Between Wiggs & Jojo, though, Jo was my favorite.
With Paul Pierce and the Wizards out, I've been rooting for the upstart Golden State Warriors in the playoffs...as fun as that's been, I'm ready to get behind a player I really care about.
C'mon, Jojo, get better. I'm ready to be a Sixers fan.
@jaybate-1.0 "Vick the Brick," ouch. Now there's a train wreck waiting to happen.
Here's hoping Vick knocks in a solid 50% of his shots in limited action this year and never has to deal with the escalating pressure of a monicker like that.
@FarSideHawk @JayHawkFanToo It finally came to me. He's actually a cut below both those guys. Man, I remember waiting 4 years for Kenny Gregory to take off...
The guy is Bryant Nash. Remember him? "Most athletic player on the team" who should probably have been in track & field, not hoops.
That said, I'm not comparing Vick to those guys, just reminiscing. Vick will be a contributor.
My immediate reaction was he was tossing Vick a bone, praising his innate ability which has little or nothing to do with playing time.
Please let him be better than Justin Wesley. Or...who was the "most athletic" post player from the Roy era who fouled like crazy and rarely saw the court...his name escapes me right now (case in point).
@EdwordL That's ingenious, man. I don't think anyone else has come up with that scenario, so if it actually goes down that way, this site will owe you a drink.
Does Larry Brown need another big man?
The main wrench in the works is that there's been no indication Hunter will be eligible for a grad transfer. Maybe he's secretly taking online courses and whittling his degree requirements down to size...if so, no one's mentioned it.
I like your idea, it's the closest to a win-win-win-win (Hunter-Chukwu-Self-Brown) I can think of.
Seems like a current scholarship player would have to agree to walk on.
@Crimsonorblue22 @globaljaybird Me too, lockdown defender who gets the system, hits open shots, doesn't make mistakes & can put bunches of points up when healthy...bring him on!
Sounds like Travis may have regained his pre-injury form. He averaged 17.9 points and 4.9 rebounds a game this season and (from the other site)...
Former Kansas University guard Travis Releford exploded for 26 points with six assists and four rebounds in leading Maccabi Kiryat Gat to a 93-74 victory over Ironi Kiryat-Ata on Friday in the deciding Game Five of Israel’s National League basketball finals.
The victory assured Releford’s team of being promoted to Israel’s Super League top flight for next season.
The 6-foot-6, 210-pound Kansas City, Missouri, native hit eight of 10 shots, including one of two threes. He also hit nine of 11 free throws. Former Mississippi player Terrence Watson contributed 19 points for the winners.
@Crimsonorblue22 @globaljaybird @Texas-Hawk-10 and then everyone's happy. :)
This is great news! I live right downtown, can walk to the Sprint Center in ten minutes, and I keep saying, "One of these years..."
Now I have more years to work with.
Like @Crimsonorblue22 , partly just rooting against Lebron, but I do get a kick out of the Splash Bros...all the more since I model my playground game after Steph Curry. :)
Would be pretty sweet to see The Truth on the KU bench!
@KUSTEVE Ha, well said. I was thinking along the same lines. "Cheetah," or maybe to avoid accidental implications, "Jack Rabbit" Vick.
@Statmachine Thanks for keeping your ear to the ground, I always enjoy reading your posts. Is KU in on any blue chip PGs?
It would seem unlikely, with Mason & Graham, but I'm always curious if Self will be able to lure the next Wall or Rose to KU. Those guys typically go to the other blue bloods, not so much Lawrence.
I'm not knowledgable enough about the Clippers to know if Pierce would put them over the top, but man, what an asset to have in the play-offs. He won 3-4 games for the Wizards with clutch shots and they might still be playing if John Wall had passed him the ball .01 seconds sooner (literally) in their season-ending loss. He hit a crazy, closely-guarded three a fraction of a sec too late.
If The Truth goes to LA, I'll be a Clippers fan next season.
@Crimsonorblue22 Guessing his middle name's not Adams?
Things I like about this kid.
- His crossover.
- His quick release.
- That rangy fast-twitch movement that gives him the ability to create his own shot...we haven't had a whole lot of that at KU in recent years. Guys that can shake loose and fire away are a lot of fun to watch.
He'll take Selden's spot! jk Can't really see that happening if Greene and Svi couldn't displace him last year.
God forbid that Wayne has another season-long slump...if something that awful happened, Vick could get big minutes. But after last season. doesn't look like anyone will take Selden's place as a starter, would violate the prenup he signed with Self.
@drgnslayr That was partly what I was trying to point out!
I sure hope it's Embiid! Lots up in the air right now, but if Joel's physical therapy has run its course and he comes in at 100%, my money is on him.
Towns didn't show us anything resembling a Dream Shake and post bullies are a dime a dozen in the league.
Towns could develop into an NBA star, who knows. But I think Joel will be better. (@Statmachine I mentioned Joel in my original post bc I think he & Diallo are the type of guys who can vault KU bigs onto the all star lists.)
@DCHawker Sadly, there's no question that UK bigs outperform KU bigs in the NBA. Towns Jr looks like a guy who will continue the trend.
Like we all know, UK is a destination school for OADs who want to hit the league with a splash.
However, I'd still argue KU is BIG MAN U in its own right, thanks to the marginal post players Self & co develop into studs. If he can reel in a few more bigs with upside like Embiid & Diallo, our guys may start making NBA all-star squads instead of "just" becoming journeyman role players.
You dig? ;)
@drgnslayr @KUSTEVE The Chu-Chu Train.
We have a winner.
@truehawk93 Yeah, totally agree. I was saying, tongue in cheek, that Self should stockpile some post talent the way Calipari did last season. It might be tough to get both Bolden and Chukwu on the floor at the same time, so...maybe a little two man "platoon?" (I had to grab a barf bag after I typed that word.)
No doubt, Kansas is BIG MAN U. Any rep UK has in that dept is smoke and mirrors.
I despise UK with the best of you, but if Bolden is also a true 5, maybe Self could take a page...ok, maybe more of a paragraph...or a sentence?...out of the Squid's notebook. Tell Bolden he and Chukwu are gonna tag-team the opposition and beat them into submission with an onslaught of tall talent that will make them both lottery picks.
Also a nat'l title (but none of the "perfection" crap) since Self is twice the big man coach Cal is.
Don't you love it when we preemptively ID an ideal recruit & then Bill Self agrees with us and acts on it immediately? ;)
@Statmachine Wow. No doubt he would have liked more playing time, and he'd find his share of supporters there (me included). But unless Self forced his mom into crazy as* loan applications...just stop.
As far as Oubre goes, if he jumps early & fails to make the lottery, I don't see a case for blaming KU.
Sigh.
Vick is in the fold, it's official. http://zagsblog.com/articles/lagerald-vick-to-kansas-could-reclass-to-2015/ ↗
Suck it, Calipari!
