@justanotherfan Thanks for the great breakdown! Sounds like Vick is more versatile while Eubanks is more polished offensively & neither will tear the rim down...thus the lower rankings, I'd guess. Hard to say either's clearly superior.
Has anyone done a side by side comparison of Vick and Eubanks? Wondering if one is more of a catch or if they're basically the same player. All other things being equal, I'd rather steal the guy who UK also wants.
@Crimsonorblue22 Haha, that was definitely there for the taking...
@Crimsonorblue22 Nicely played there!
@drgnslayr I like where your head's at!
I'll never, ever measure KU's season success with a single W...but man, this one would feel good!
@Crimsonorblue22 @Statmachine Ha, and I was thinking it was probably someplace local to Lawrence. facepalm At least it wasn't a BMW dealership!
Obviously I should know this, but I haven't made it out to Lawrence for awhile...what's BWW?
Pierce was always my favorite player. Loved his swagger and feel for a game's momentum. These days, he's the only reason I watch the NBA playoffs...& he doesn't disappoint! I take every year he re-ups as a personal gift.
bizarre, maybe Ivan Rabb's presence was a factor? Whatever. Next.
@RockChalkinTexas Ha, good call.
YEAH! This is Self hitting a home run in the middle of the 9th inning. Let's see if he can homer in the bottom of the 9th too (Brown).
I'm baffled as to why Diallo is still waiting. Duke's not in the mix for him, so at least the Blue Snivels won't get both him and Ingram... And no documented connection between the two of them up until this point, right?
If they're both coming to KU (doubtful) I still don't get the timing.
@Crimsonorblue22 I wish he had KU on his list.
@REHawk Totally agree, here's the mysterious explanation of Greene's immobility that we were all ready to chalk up to plantar clumsiness. It's a relief to know he can still grow his game speed. Downer to know he'll miss the entire summer.
Now we just need an explanation for Selden's baffling lack of game.
And in the meantime, we need to sign another perimeter stud player.
@konkeyDong "incredibly active and tough any time I've seen him on the floor." That makes my heart beat faster.
@HighEliteMajor Selden is the most enigmatic player on the Kansas roster. For the life of me, I can't figure out why he underperforms. Guess we just have to chalk it up to something mental. Greene and Svi's shortcomings are more obvious.
Svi's problems seem the most likely to be solved simply by the weight room and experience.
The book seems to have been written on Greene. Guy can't move his feet. Hard to see the concrete boots coming off after two seasons.
I agree, Svi seems the best bet for Self's system, but when your perimeter is stocked with players that come with big asterisks, I can't help wishing Self would recruit a "sure thing" like Brown or Newman. Unfortunately, I don't think we'll get lucky enough to deal with that log jam.
@REHawk "Interesting and educational"--that line made me laugh. Bill always has to play it straight.
Crazy to think Cliff was mentioned in the same breath as Okafor to begin the year. With another season, he could've actually been something special.
Real curious to see how the recruiting dominoes fall now.
@wissoxfan83 Thought so...burn.
@Crimsonorblue22 it's my least favorite highlight of all time & they never seem to get tired of showing it. :p
Wait, I channeled the wrong NCAA nightmare (Syracuse). So who took that shot? Was it Lafrentz?
Diplomatic of Pierce to leave out the specifics, but I remember Hakim Warick blocking Michael Lee's trey like it was yesterday. Lee never saw it coming. :(
@JhawkAlum This guy sounds like a flake. ;) But seriously.
@Blown Sounds like a continuation of the Barnes Era for KU, i.e., very winnable Big Monday games.
@drgnslayr Tend to agree with you about Selden's trajectory right now. The good news is, he has a couple years to figure out what's wrong. The problem's probably between his ears. Maybe it's nothing a summer of scrappy pick-up ball can't fix. If he chooses to try a blank slate somewhere else, I'm ok with that. And if he stays at KU to optimize his chances, I'm ok with that too...so long as Self doesn't keep playing him when he's obviously struggling, to the detriment of other players and ultimately the team.
@jaybate-1.0 What I wonder when I consider the shoeco alignments and possible runners-recruit complex is...why not just switch to Nike? Bill Self is a stubborn coach, but surely his competitive nature would seek out every edge on the recruiting trail. Hard to believe that chasing $$ for the AD would outweigh a big head start on the yearly pursuit of top ten talent. And doesn't winning the in the NCAAs generate huge amounts of revenue anyway?
Seems like if Self and co were aware of the Nike pipeline being such an advantage, it would be incredibly short-sighted to maintain the Adidas connection merely for short term gain. Or am I missing something?
@VailHawk Not feeling too distraught either, just didn't think this team had it together. What I'm most curious about is potential changes to Self's coaching philosophy going forward...you know, stuff we can only conjecture about until the players take the court again.
I'll check in from time to time. We've got to chat recruiting and speculate on what new schemes Self will be cooking up to make sure KU survives the first weekend next year.
@Hawk8086 YES. If KU hits on all cylinders or even 5 of 6 or 7 of 8 like today, they'll win going away.
@Blown It's hard to evaluate people at a distance, but Marshall looks kind of high-strung to me... ;)
http://m.kusports.com/news/2015/mar/20/jayhawks-dispose-nmsu-move-next-round/ ↗
Long story short, KU actually looked like a high-caliber offensive team again.
@Blown I think Marshall will end up regretting that he made this personal for Self. Be careful what you wish for...
@cragarhawk i think that's a given with this team.
neither IU or WSU passed the eye test or instilled fear. KU should pound these guys.
@Crimsonorblue22 Wow, you might get yr wish!
@Crimsonorblue22 Thot WSU wld get some separation but they scrapped their way to the W.
I'd enjoy beating WSU more, so...that answers your question, right? ;)
nice to see another B12 team get a W!
Man, thought WVU would bring more than this.
@approxinfinity Looks like a good time.
I'd love to see a quarter of the Sweet 16 repping the Big 12. It would finally shut up my boastful Big 10 friends and fat-headed ACC acquaintances.
@Crimsonorblue22 Ha, in that case I bet Self is itching to wax the floor with him. Assuming we both win, I bet Self will downplay it big time and then do everything he can to shock the Shockers.
@Crimsonorblue22 They got screwed with their seed, but I'd expect some warmth from Marshall about finally getting a shot at us & haven't seen it yet. Maybe if they get past Indiana...
I'm not sure WSU gets past Indiana. But if they do, it would be hilarious to discover Marshall's been blowing hot air all this time, saying he wants to play KU bc he thought it would never happen.
Like Self said, if we get a shot at UK, it's gravy. I'll be thrilled if this beat-up team makes it out of the first weekend alive. If we're tipping off against UK a week from Saturday, that's already a W in my book.
Does Buckets seriously not have its own bracket competition?
@sfbahawk On this topic...you're gonna love this post: /topic/2248
@sfbahawk I think people will keep on talking about it as long as KU's post play is easy to scheme against. Maybe this team is subpar from three, maybe they're loaded with slumping outside shooters. I think this team has plenty of serviceable 3 shooters. The reason they abruptly started missing everything is a question I have a hard time leaving alone.
@Crimsonorblue22 yeah, I think he is. Maybe he's a different kind of cat, but unless he plays himself out of the lottery, why come back?
