@Crimsonorblue22 Let's hope Diallo, Zimmerman et all are getting the message!
@Crimsonorblue22 reluctantly clicks over
@DoubleDD Danny had speed & agility, though. If Lucas can figure out how to pull off the concrete Adidas...watch out. I'll ride that bandwagon all day.
@brooksmd I love his smarts & work ethic, just wish he could get off the ground without a runway & signal lights.
@Crimsonorblue22 Oh man, wish I'd listened in, I need inspiration for this team! Feel free to share any more insider knowledge. ;) Good point, this is the best Wayne has looked since his freshman year. A strong, bouncey, high-flying tourney could get him back on draft boards.
@Crimsonorblue22 I hope Perry can bounce back, but knee injuries are killer. I don't think we'll see him in Super-Fast-Twitch-Perry mode again this year, unless it's for short stretches. Suspect we won't see Cliff again this year. :( Oubre has all the tools, but he's such a diamond in the rough that he's streaky as hell. Aside from Mason & Ellis, you never know exactly who will show up on a given day.
Self winning the Big 12 may have been a bigger coupe than we realize?
@DoubleDD Ha, I hear you. Would be nice to beat teams by double digits every night and always have your best players rested and ready to go. But we're KU. We do things the Right Way. ;)
The last couple games showed us they can play D when motivated, but their offense makes me want to pull my hair out. Hard to know what else to hope for when the hour is this late...healthy versions of Ellis + Mason plus New Selden would help. What are the odds they all show up at the same time?
@Crimsonorblue22 You've got to think the war of attrition that's the Big 12 season is starting to wear on Mason. He doesn't have the bounce and motor he had early in the season.
@Bwag Agreed, their flailing offense is the overall problem. But teams packing the middle and KU driving and failing to connect is symptomatic of that problem and shooting more threes is ONE way to alleviate those symptoms. (Watch me veer into doctor-speak.)
Self broke his own rules and pulled out the zone, which was a good move. He's gotta find a way to help this team on offense, though. Driving and pitching isn't getting it done, especially with Cliff gone and Perry under the weather.
This was a game that would've looked dramatically different if KU had been able (schemed) to hit some more threes.
@Crimsonorblue22 C'mon Bill, mix it up a little to keep us happy, would ya?
@Crimsonorblue22 No one's assist/TO ratio is untouchable when Bad Ball is in effect...except Mason's?
@Crimsonorblue22 Hmm...I didn't get to watch the game closely last night but I know Greene wasn't βοΈ threes, so...Graham gets the nod! Who you got?
Others have probably said this, but...if KU gets a shot at revenge, it'll take more than Bad Ball to check UK. Self will have to create something more volatile. Hot Shot Bad Ball or something.
@JayHawkFanToo Great minds.
@Crimsonorblue22 If they play small to counter ISU, I wonder how Oubre would do on floppy hair...
@JayHawkFanToo It'd be nice if ESPN would back a better horse...one with a better track record and a less swollen head.
I'd love to see Bill Self pull out all the stops and create an unorthodox new game plan for every team the Hawks face in the tourney. I agree with other posters that Bad Ball is too risky for a one-and-out tournament.
Like @ralster noted, Self's capable of getting outside the box to neutralize an opponent's strength. This team is so young that I'd like him to bend or break his own reliance on tough, grinding post-first ball. Break out some new schemes, shoot more threes and keep each opposing team guessing.

In December, you always hear the TV announcers say "That's a team you won't want to play in March". I don't think we've really achieved that.
You nailed it right there. If they were sticklers for accuracy, announcers would say, "Now there's a KU team you wouldn't want to play in MarchβIF Perry Ellis gets 20 and 10, the post-by-committee position gets a double-double, the team shoot 20+ threes and the entire perimeter plays hungry."
There are a lot of loose wheels on this particular Jayhawk wagon.
Not a fan of the weird waistbands. They look like low-slung cummerbunds or gun belts with no guns.
@nuleafjhawk Absolutely! And to be honest, the sooner the better. I'd love to knock them out of the tourney earlier rather than later and keep them out of another nat'l championship game. (Here's to wishful thinking!)
I'd love to beat K-State (revenge), then West Virginia (revenge), then Iowa State (revenge.) Apparently I just really like revenge.
@jaybate-1.0 Why recruit Hunter at all in that case? Seems like a wasted schollie.
Tough, gritty game. Bad Ball showed up again, and if they'd tossed in another trey or two, the Hawks would have a new recipe for success. Regardless, hard to feel bad about that one. Double-double by Lucas offsets Selden's 0-for.
Great game, tough finish.
drink some ice water Mason.
HAHA YES!
Put Frank back on the line.
Mason or Oubre.
@Bwag Not a lot of firepower out there & Frank's confident.
Mason should take the shot or drive for and one.
holy crap!
No quit in Mason.
Oubre, so close.
That Traylor pump fake made my jaw drop.
@Crimsonorblue22 Relaxing is for football season.
@DCHawker It's baffling, even w a bum ankle.
@Bwag Graham should've started.
@Crimsonorblue22 Yeah, good IQ on that one.
TEAR DROP!
Never would've thought we'd be in it w Selden a non factor & Lucas our best player.
@DCHawker @KansasComet YES!
I wanna see Bad Ball with some threes!
@DCHawker I tend to agree, it sucks. They need to bomb away.
Except for Mason, this team is a head case from three.
LUCAS! Now if Traylor can just check someone.
Oubre showing second-jump skills like Wiggins.
@drgnslayr If the Hawks can channel the grit from that WVU win and shoot 15+ threes a game (without going, ahem, 0-15) in the Big Dance, I like them for the Elite 8. If they can play with grit and shoot 20+ threes a game, I could see them getting on a roll and gutting their way to the Final Four.
Never thought I'd say that this year. That tough, ugly WV win was eye-opening, but we all know they need some easy offense to advance in March. Getting clobbered in the post over and over again isn't it.
