Who is our Barry Brown? • Jan 19, 2018 03:14 PM

Won't be last time somebody comes to KU with a chip on their shoulder. We wanted him. It was his choice to settle on OU and watch us advance after they are eliminated.

Who was the last team that advanced after WE were eliminated? When was it?

Fresh legs, I wonder if that means Cunliffe time. He's gonna have to do some studying if that's the case.

We'll need him against Trae. Is it Devonte? Is it Vick? Garrett?

My favorite part is that we don't start bragging about it until we have undisputed, sole possession. That's how u know you're a KU fan baby!

Remember when we used to not care about WSU? (Then they got good)

That's a tough team • Jan 16, 2018 04:59 PM

I loved how Devonte bumped into Svi after that careless turnover. He was pissed at Svi. He wanted this game. Svi took it like a champ too. Then on the bench you could tell Devonte was trying to build him up again.

I see a future coach in Devonte! Hmm... I'm trying to think of a charismatic coach with a great smile who tears kids down then builds them up...

Most Improved player this year? • Jan 15, 2018 01:33 PM

De Sousa! (I mean, really, can you think of anyone else who probably got better at a quicker pace than him?)

@chriz as much as I want to beat WV, I have a hard time rooting against Jevon Carter. He feels a lot like their version of Frank to me. A solid senior guard, tough as nails, that has improved himself every year, and seems to have a good attitude. So I hope he plays, does well, and we just do better than his team.

I know, I'm the exact same, I love the kid. The post was in jest. I just think the only way to win is if he's not playing lol.

Or if De Sousa does his best Tarik Black impression.

Where was Beard before he went to UNLV/TT? Can he recruit?

Why not just Free Billy right now? • Jan 12, 2018 05:22 PM

Or Anthony Davis. Two perfect OADs, both playing against us in the title game. Damn.

@Gunman Bob Huggins says hi

Also, I'm assuming he doesn't do it all the time, haven't watched a lot of their games, but you gotta think he's doing SOMETHING Self ain't doing. His kids play their butts off.

@mayjay I get it, and this could be a possibility. But isn't it also possible that it's Marshall's way of teaching his kids to give it all, all the time? I don't think it's a D-bag move at all.

Don't see why not. Like the announcers mentioned, they're playing for the future at this point, not just the game. Guys still diving for balls.

They out-hustled us when they last played us and seems they generally have been doing so ever since.

Self is a great coach. Could easily make an argument that he's better than Marshall (obviously). But he ain't perfect.

Maybe he should.

Wichita State up 32 with 15 minutes left and full court pressing, coming up with all kinds of steals. Not soft at all. Of course, you can do that with a deep bench. Of course, you can have a deep bench when you recruit legit dudes.

Alas, you still need top tier talent to win the 'ship.

Why not just Free Billy right now? • Jan 10, 2018 04:25 AM

I assumed it was more of a competitive thing, not a vendetta against KU. But I'm not above taking the bait on a conspiracy theory, especially with the crooked NCAA

Why not just Free Billy right now? • Jan 10, 2018 04:20 AM

So what's his beef with KU?

Why not just Free Billy right now? • Jan 09, 2018 07:50 PM

@HighEliteMajor I don't think they can win 6 in a row as composed. I wouldn't be surprised if someone went down to an injury before then anyway. Especially Dok who was out last year for a wrist and this year for a back.

Don't get me wrong, and I realize I'm talking out of both sides of my mouth a little, but I have a lot of faith in Bill to pull off a miracle. With these guys, in my mind, getting to the Elite Eight would be a miracle.

I like the donut comparison though. What I'd add to it is that we're gonna die of starvation if we don't eat something. We won't be Big XII champs, won't win a Big XII tourney, and won't get far in the Big Dance. This will be a very disappointing year as it is. Yeah we beat a young Kentucky team early and we looked good against some chumps in other games, but we've lost 3 home games, two at Allen, and most everyone knows that a high zone defense is our kryptonite.

I know it's a stretch. I just wonder how much we have to gain by playing it safe with Billy. (And, conversely, how much we have to gain by rolling the dice.)

Why not just Free Billy right now? • Jan 09, 2018 03:48 PM

Yeah but I would say this isn't a matter of doing things the wrong way. It's a matter of playing the percentages. Unless I'm missing something, he's eligible to play. The NCAA hasn't said he's ineligible. Kansas is holding him out based on the chance that he might NOT be eligible.

But what if he has been this whole time and the price has been paid? I would think that's the likelihood and that he's MORE than paid his time. The only reason he's not playing now is the NCAA dragging their feet.

Is today the day? (Preston & De Sousa) • Jan 09, 2018 04:01 AM

@cragarhawk yeah i thought so too, didn't know how else to say it lol

Is today the day? (Preston & De Sousa) • Jan 09, 2018 03:41 AM

Your source could be Bill Self himself and I still wouldn't believe it.

Why not just Free Billy right now? • Jan 09, 2018 03:28 AM

Why not just take a chance and play Preston anyway? Isn't our season basically toast without him? #14 is unlikely, as is a Natty obviously.

What's the downside? We get wins vacated? So what? I don't think it would give Self a black eye. The college basketball world would see that the NCAA has had plenty of time and I would imagine would hardly blame Self for this whole thing. He did everything the right way, did everything he could, and now the NCAA is letting him hang by his balls.

Seriously. Screw it, Bill. Free Billy. Who knows, maybe he's eligible after all anyway and it's a gamble worth taking!

Is today the day? (Preston & De Sousa) • Jan 08, 2018 06:36 PM

I think a lot of people screwed up here. Bill screwed up, Billy screwed up, KU screwed up, and the NCAA screwed up. Some more than others, but still. A lot of people involved, as is always the case, and it's useless to have the "who's the most at fault" conversation. (Not saying don't talk about it if it's fun to you, it's just not fun to me.)

I love it! Thank you Dukie V!

Seriously, what other school has to go through this crap as much as we do? Does the NCAA have something against us? They don't want us to win a title? Not good for biz? Not far enough east? Or is KU just more cautious than absolutely everyone else?

Why does it take Dickie V and Jay Bilas to put the pressure on?

No Silvio for Texas. Self says hopefully within a week, but I presume he's just saying that to put a bit of pressure on the NCAA.

Maybe Coach Self didn't want to pay him off like Alabama.

I don't know, "Mr. Sexton, Director of Basketball Operations" has a nice ring to it.

Self wishes he could've gotten this guy • Dec 13, 2017 05:38 PM

We haven't had a guy get to the bucket this explosively since Tyshawn. BIFM could get there but was much more methodical about it (which is fine, obviously works well for him).

But looks like Sexton can finish better than Tyshawn. At least from the highlights that i saw. Which of course show no misses. But still, i bet he's a heck of a finisher.

Unless there were some personal reasons, like his mom or dad went there, I'm not all that impressed by a kid going to Alabama to play basketball. Of course really good players choose odd schools every year, but you've got to wonder sometimes with these kids.

Collin Sexton. This dude is apparently lighting it up. ↗ And I guess he's in beast mode all the time. I haven't seen him play yet, but I don't know if we have anyone on this year's team who even HAS a beast mode.

Except Udoka, but ... well... I guess it's in hibernation until reinforcements come in? (And does Dok even LIKE playing basketball?)

Would've been nice to see him in a Jayhawk uniform. ↗ Self has a great class coming in next year,
but I'm sure he's kicking himself after watching this kid play in Alabama.
