Simmons is just a reminder that every once in a while the #1 overall high school prospect is actually the real deal!
Just goes to show that this tournament is probably not a good way to determine the best team in the country.
They ALL poison (I think that was the quote)
Don't know if it's been mentioned in here, but of all the ESPN "experts", JEFF GOODMAN is the only one taking KU in the Final Four, and he has us winning it all!
(Warning, I'm about to talk out both sides of my mouth)
So I picked Puke to beat KU in the Elite Eight.
BUUUUUUTTT, part of me thinks a) they'll be more fatigued than we will, and b ) we step up against big time programs, especially when we're dogs.
Damn, I almost talked myself into changing my pick!
If it weren't for the VCU loss, this wouldn't even be a question
Even without Dok, any reason we shouldn't be favored beating a team ranked 25 through 32 in the first weekend?
I'm excited to see more Silvio!
Not bad, great coach by all accounts from what we can tell.
They can beat anyone and lose to anyone. Size will kill them. Let's hope they match up against small ball till the end of championship Monday.
Dang. Sucks to be him.
Dok is a poor man's Shaq. He will obviously never become as good as Shaq, but he's a big ol' footer. He had decent low post moves but needs to develop a short jumper. Obviously needs to with on free throws.
But for his size alone and his rapid improvement, not to mention his shooting (dunking) percentage, he'll easily be considered by the League.
Um, why don't we think Dok will end up in the league? I think he could go after next year. Devonte will play somewhere. Svi probably could play somewhere, maybe go back and forth between THE and D. Someone will take Malik in 2 years.
We have pros. Maybe not 1st round draft pick. But some of these guys will make the league.
I wonder who he thinks coach of the year should go to...
Way to go Pokes! Now KU needs to keep the sweep streak alive.
Do we know Shamet is going pro?
So does the title go to Michigan?
Um, how about passing up a wide open layup to instead find a closely-guarded Naadir Tharpe on the perimeter? That was my lasting memory. And his 41 point game against the Clones.

That really is interesting. I guess Deron Williams was his only other all Star?
Deron Williams was Bruce Webbers All star. hahah..didn't even realize it. Squeaky has the same number of all stars in nba as Bill Self.
I don't know, I'd still give it to Self. He recruited him. If he had recruited him but never coached him, I'd give it to Squeaky.
That really is interesting. I guess Deron Williams was his only other all Star?
Don't know if it's been mentioned, but Garrett reminds me of a smarter yet slower Tyshawn Taylor. But I think his smarts make up for his slows. And he's not even that slow, but only when compared to Tyshawn.
For a freshman, Garrett can finish at the rim better than I expected. He'll have to work on his shot, so we'll see what happens there. He IS showing improvement though.
But his knowledge of the game is apparent. He knows where to be, knows where others should be, and he appears to be a "winner".
Some may say Tyshawn was more talented, but it seems like the word "talent" carries more of a physical connotation. Garrett has a physical and mental combination of talent that will help him perform better than most.
Looking forward to this kid playing at KU for a while.
If it's anything like how they handled Hillary's emails and the whole Loretta Lynch thing, everyone may get off scot free!
"Did they pay the players?"
"Yes."
"Were they supposed to?"
"No."
"Did they know they weren't supposed to?"
"Yes."
"So they'll be prosecuted, right?"
"Nah, they were just being ridiculously irresponsible. But no biggie."
@mayjay Ha! I love it!
Does he just do better against bad teams?
Svi got a shiner in pregame, which led to the poor shooting. That's what decided the game.
Wishing our scheduler would've taken it easy on us in conference play lol

@Crimsonorblue22 Really? I said something not nice? Whatever.
I think @Crimsonorblue22 was being facetious
Yeah, #14 all day long. And if course, the year we actually want it, this happens...still hoping for a happy ending.
The team in first place. They're looking more and more like it, and we're looking less and less like it. Help me figure out why I should be optimistic.
Also, isn't this the year where we started coming out of the huddle with "National Champs" instead of "Big XII Champs"? I'd hate to think little things like that matter, but maybe they do?
Either way, we're certainly not looking like national champs, so I'd say that isn't working. Of course that's what I thought in 2012 also, so there's that.
I'm just hopeful for #14. Win #14 and flame out in the first weekend and it would suck, but at least we get #14. I'm not sure if we get ANYTHING this year. Maybe some home cooking would've made a difference?
Just interesting that we're experiencing this and a couple years ago we were having premonitions of this exact problem.
OR , how about it's a combination? (Slight sarcasm intended)
The team isn't good this year. It's partly lack of Billy, definitely. But from what I've read, hasn't the administration shifted seats around over the past 5 or so years?
Crazy that 80% of this year's losses have been home games. That's an anomaly. A very noticeable one.
Seriously, doesn't this come back to the rearrangement of seats (which ones the donors get versus the students)? Or is it just attitude?
Do we still have more conference titles than home losses?
If only we could step on some of these teams' throats and be up by 25 midway through the 2nd half so Self could rest him. I think the Texas A&M game for instance.
I guess it's the chicken or the egg argument.
Or maybe Devonte is just fine physically but going through a shooting slump? Just imagine if he could finish at the rim...he'd easily be a first rounder.
Gotta be situational. He knows he's not gonna have to count on Sam but he WILL have to count on Dok.
Or he just goofed.

I like it less the clock run off. You shouldn’t be penalized for being fouled.
That or make it to when the team is in the double bonus they can pick the shooter.
If people are fouling you and you decline the free throws, you're in a situation where you'd want the runoff.
I was also thinking about the pick the shooter scenario. That could work too.

Who would agree that Doke should have been called for a foul when he plowed into Young right before TY hit that 25 footer? They seemed to be calling every other touch foul.
Are you thinking conspiracy?

@Texas-Hawk-10 There you go. The situation has been exposed for the rest of the season. Every coach in the nation has seen it now.
I think Bill knows this. We were 2 games up, we still have sole possession. Self probably thought, what the heck, we always win close games, hopefully Dok can come through and get some confidence.
What I HOPE Bill knows is that instead of saying afterwards that he (Self) goofed up, he should be saying that Dok needs to learn to make free throws. Otherwise he's going back on his vote of confidence.
How many timeouts did we have? Could he have switched Mitch and Dok on offense and defense?
In what other sport can you foul a team to your own advantage? In football, penalties are optional. You can accept or decline.
You should be able to accept or decline free throws, at least in the last 2 minutes. If you decline, you get the ball out of bounds with a 10 second runoff.
Simple solution. Fouling at the end of games to your own advantage is unwatchable. It can't be good for basketball.
Change the rule and the game gets better. Winning teams win and losing teams lose.
(Until then, take Dok out of the effing game!)
Um, that 2nd good team looks to be the one in the same state as us who we beat by just 1 point at home and who killed OU and who's now handling Baylor with much more ease than did we.
I'm guessing it's the head coach of another Wildcat team. I know that narrows it down to about 4,512 schools. But I'm talking about one who uses the same two letters as KU.
Or perhaps a team who has an equally "evil" mascot, who's a four-letter word, and again, with the same two letters as KU.
I'd like to see the rankings of the recruiting classes over the last 10 years combined? I would assume UK/Duke would be 1 and 2, maybe UNC 3? Texas would be up there? Hopefully KU in the top 5?
I don't think he'll leave until he gets another title.

I think one thing that is at work here is that teams are not expected to win in AFH so they play loose......free and easy. Like they have nothing to loose.
Hasn't that been the case for a dozen years or so?
@Gunman but if it's Dok, Silvio, and Mitch, those are our options right? Or Sam instead of Mitch? I don't think Self knows that Sam is on the team...
It could be that KU is just more careful than the other schools, particularly in a year where setting the record for consecutive conference titles is at stake? (Mmmm...STEAK!)
Could be a good thing or a bad thing. I'm guessing that there could be a little NCAA bias as well. Seriously, the same bias that east coast teams have always had. How often do teams in time zones other than east coast win the tourney? Sure, there are a lot more schools over there, but still. East coast games sell better than the others. It's all about what sells. News, weather, and sports. That's the underlying motivation.
Mitch Leadfoot can't guard the 3. It won't happen unless we're playing a team with a horrible shooter at the 3 position.
