@JayHawkFanToo Guns, Texting while driving, KU football.

All things I've pretty much thrown in the towel on. First of all, you're absolutely right.

We had this discussion on another thread a LONG time ago, but I"ll rehash. It's not so much the guns, obviously, it's how they're used and how they're ..... tolerated. One year not too long ago, we (The U.S.) had more gunshot deaths in the first HOUR of whatever year it was than Canada had the whole previous year. That's just sad. But kudos to the Canadians for having sense enough not to kill each other all day and for dealing with the few problems they did have. This is the United States. It is our right to kill anybody we want and the government is ok with it. (deep breath).

I'm not talking about hunters. I used to enjoy stomping through nature and blasting a deer's heart and lungs out, then gutting it and cutting it's head off and hanging it on my wall as much as the next guy. Nothing at all wrong with a little good natured hunting.

I'm talking about the guy that has an AK-47 in the gunrack of his pickup truck "just in case". Just in case he runs into an army of angry militant soldiers? ??

Sorry to get carried away. I'm fairly frustrated with everyone in this country killing each other and nobody (in government) really seems to give a crap.

@Texas-Hawk-10 & @jaybate-1.0 I've been trying to use my brain (without much luck) and get away from googling every damn thing I think about, but are there some cartoon superheros or mythological beings that use footwear as their "thing"?

If so - even that won't help our football team. Maybe we should try rollerblades. Or cross country skis. Barefoot? Cowboy boots. (good ankle support and keeps our feet out of the ....poo). I don't think there's anything we can put on our feet to make this team any better.

The good thing is, I won't be calling for Beaty's head after the next game. Or year. Or 5 years. I have arrived. I don't care any more. I would LOVE to see football be a viable sport at KU, but since it almost never has been and nothing seems to change as far as the administration goes - it probably never will be.

So, I go to work every Monday ( except for the beloved bye weeks! ) and hang my head, bite my tongue and mark on the calendar that we're another day closer to basketball.

By the way, in basketball I think we could wear rollerblades, cross country skis, go barefoot or wear cowboy boots and STILL be great.

Sad news β€’ Sep 21, 2015 02:42 AM

@Crimsonorblue22 Sad news indeed. And I will probably start World War III, but I'm past the point of caring. Since "they" won't ban guns ( Yeah, I know - guns don't kill people and all that BS ) "they" should at least make sure that those who kill people should themselves bite the bullet. Pun intended.

@Crimsonorblue22 A Kansas native, and ex KSU guy worked out pretty well for Texas a while back.

I don't think we're going to have the same luck with our K-Stater.

@wrwlumpy - You did an incredible job finding these matches - they're ALL really great.

BUT

The Weber / Liberace one scares the crap out of me. I think it's really the same person. FREAKY

@HighEliteMajor You seem to know stats, or where to find them very well. That's not sarcasm, by the way. Do you know, or could you find out (my googler just isn't working well today...) what the percentage of NFL home teams win in overtime? I'll bet it's huge. Probably 80% or higher.

I think our chances would have been very good with 77,000 loud fans in overtime.

@drgnslayr I just had a question about your second item: It would be extremely difficult to say that he's the worst long ball passer in the league because I'm fairly confident he's never thrown a ball over 15 yards. CAN he throw a long ball? My next door neighbor could probably out throw him.

She's nine.

Chiefs Blow So Others Can Learn.... β€’ Sep 18, 2015 06:42 PM

@drgnslayr It's almost laughable (in that laughable way that makes you want to cry...)

I can hear the coaches huddled up now:

"Well, we've been beating the living crap out of these guys for (time depends on the sport....) so what do you say we TOTALLY change things up and see if we can hang on by a fingernail instead of doing what we've been doing and winning by a boatload?"

On Three - Three, Two, One - PREVENT !!!

Chiefs Blow So Others Can Learn.... β€’ Sep 18, 2015 06:37 PM

@drgnslayr hmmmm. You REALLY think we'll win another game some day?

I love your " glass half full " optimism!!

Chiefs Blow So Others Can Learn.... β€’ Sep 18, 2015 06:35 PM

@HighEliteMajor I would sound even more stupid than usual to complain about Jamaal Charles as a pro running back, but I'm pretty sure he led the nation (possibly the Universe) in fumbles when he was at Texas. He was nowhere near as reliable with his hands and he was with his feet.

I just saw an article on Yahoo! News ( I didn't read it ) - it was titled " The Three Most Overrated Teams in College Football"

I'm guessing we weren't one of them...

Chiefs Blow So Others Can Learn.... β€’ Sep 18, 2015 06:29 PM

@Kcmatt7 I've heard it said many times (and I believe it) that the only thing the "prevent" defense accomplishes is preventing a win. I'm not just talking about last night's game, but how many times have you seen a team lose after having a 15-30 point lead? Play the way that got you the big lead in the first place.

If I were a head coach in any sport, I honestly think I'd be hated worse than Calipari - BECAUSE - I like to win. Period. Let's say it's basketball - my job as a coach is to get wins. My players are to put the ball in the basket on offense and to NOT allow the ball in the basket on defense. If we all do our jobs, we're going to beat the living crap out of a lot of people. I would play the 2nd and 3rd teams (or whatever the rotation happens to be) after we get no less than a 40 point lead. If the lead dropped to 20 - back in goes the first team.

A "prevent" defense in any sport is a cop out.

Chiefs Blow So Others Can Learn.... β€’ Sep 18, 2015 06:25 PM

@drgnslayr Honestly, we've been hearing so many conspiracy theories about KU football lately it makes me wonder about the Chiefs. Can a whole TEAM of coaches really be that stupid? I have to give it to KC - when they lose, they lose REALLY stupid.

Something to talk about at the water cooler the next day, I guess.

Chiefs Blow So Others Can Learn.... β€’ Sep 18, 2015 06:20 PM

I just wish the media would quit referring to it as a " miracle " win by the Broncos. It's not a miracle when one team has a win sewn up, then their brains turn to mush and they gift wrap the " W " for the other team.

I guess it's easier for them to report it as a miracle win, rather than saying the Chiefs went to hell in a handbasket, their brains turned to mush and they pissed it away.

MIRACLE it is!!

Chiefs Blow So Others Can Learn.... β€’ Sep 18, 2015 06:15 PM

@JayHawkFanToo Well - think about it... If they had done that, then they would have won. Then they would have blown their streak of getting beaten by Denver for the past 297 straight games.

Chiefs Blow So Others Can Learn.... β€’ Sep 18, 2015 06:14 PM

I'm absolutely certain that Turner Gill and Charlie Weis had something to do with this....

@drgnslayr I usually agree with your points of view, and have the utmost respect for you - BUT - why on earth would you want to disrespect Richard M Nixon like that? lol

@wrwlumpy I have nothing but respect for Hudy, but i honestly think RR would beat her like a rented mule. And most everyone else on the face of the planet.

@HighEliteMajor to paraphrase a good ol song - If wanting to see these two women wrestle in jello is wrong, I don't wanna be right.

Why Did Charlie Weis Gut the football Program? β€’ Sep 18, 2015 11:02 AM

@Texas-Hawk-10 We lived in Houston for about 9 years and went to LOTS of Astros games! Of course, back in the late 70's, early 80's it was relatively inexpensive to do so. But we had so much fun and it seemed like the 'Dome was always packed. They had some great players, great teams back then. And one thing I remember, almost 40 years later, was the familiar sound of one of the beer vendors' thundering voice that seemingly carried throughout the whole building "BEER HERE.! GET YER COLD BEER HERE! COLDEST FOAM IN THE 'DOME!!"

Good times!

Why Did Charlie Weis Gut the football Program? β€’ Sep 18, 2015 01:46 AM

@DoubleClutch WHY?

I would find it curious if he were not mentioned. He's a perfect example of what we need. He's a tireless, hardworking, family oriented, genius football mind. He took over a program that is representative of what ours is becoming. We're not THE worst program in the history of college football, but we're damn close. And seemingly not making any strides to turn it around. When I look at our schedule for the remainder of this year, I see ONE game that I personally think we MAYBE could win, and the only reason I say that is because I don't know one damn thing about Rutgers. If they beat us, it's a big ol fat goose egg for this season.

A Snyder like find is our only hope. Could Beaty be the guy? We'll know five years from now, if he lasts that long.

@Crimsonorblue22 Yes.....?

Cool shoes β€’ Sep 17, 2015 10:50 AM

July 19

@Texas-Hawk-10 And you completely missed my point that Nick Saban (or whomever) would not come here because they KNOW they can't turn around a program like this overnight and they are not going to wait five, six, ten, twenty years trying to bring us up out of the miry clay, ruining their reputation in the process.

@Texas-Hawk-10 Very well said. But the last sentence - "Nick Saban" or anyone like him would never take a job here in the first place. That's one of our problems.

@jaybate-1.0 I'll bet she can figure out a way to distract the defense. Or the offense.

@Crimsonorblue22 You have brought your children up well.

@Texas-Hawk-10 Does the one that makes straight A's become a successful businessperson and make 6 or 7 figures per year - and does the D's and F's student live under a bridge and sell plasma to buy meth?

That will determine with road I take.

Just messin.....

@BeddieKU23 Do you ever wonder how many young kids are drawn to KU because of our helmets?

Sorry.

I was going to stop there, but I never know when to shut my mouth. Or fingers, in this case. Am I the only one here that remembers when K-State SUCKED ? I mean, sucked bath water. They sucked like a Hoover vacuum cleaner. Big time, Major League, All-Star Suckage.

Then they hired this crazy man named Bill Snyder who changed the face of the football team, the University and the City of Manhattan. One of the first things he did was ditch the idiotic Willie the Wildcat cartoon and came up with the PowerCat.

I'm not a KSU fan by any stretch of the imagination, but there's not many people that I have more respect for than Bill Snyder. He literally changed that whole town, the whole culture of Manhattan, and the PowerCat Logo didn't hurt anything.

I love our basketball court. We don't NEED anything fierce on the court - our players and coaches take care of that. I'm not a fan AT ALL of our football uniforms. Replace the giant Jayhawk on the helmet with dang near anything - even the letters KU. Or make them plain Crimson or plain Blue. Anything.

My personal opinion....

In my opinion, Self's teams have always performed better as underdogs. I always felt like Roy's teams relished the top 5 rankings and ran with it (literally).

It should be a fun and interesting season!!

@BeddieKU23 They were transfers, but.........so? If they were 5 star somewhere else, shouldn't they have been here too?

I'm not really disagreeing with you. I don't know WHAT the heck the problem is. It's not any one position. It's not the fans. It's the whole program - the whole attitude about football at KU. MAYBE a top-notch dynamic coach would make a difference. Maybe not.

Maybe that's why no BIG TIME coaches want to come here. They know it's a losing proposition. It would be like Bill Self going to K-State and losing 25 games per season.

I'd like to think things could change, but it's going to take a lot of time, a lot of money and a lot of change. I don't know if KU is willing to invest any of those.

@BeddieKU23 Just because I'm feeling ornery this morning, I'll go ahead and say it. Apparently, even a couple of 5 star QB's don't make any difference in this program.

OK - take it away folks.....

Texas AD going, going, gone... β€’ Sep 16, 2015 10:45 AM

@Texas-Hawk-10 Had to lol about "most Longhorn fans don't even know that UT has a basketball team."

But it's not a false statement - I lived in Austin for a year, in Houston for almost 10 and, like I said, my dad has lived in Austin or the surrounding areas for almost 30 years. Basketball is to them what football is to us. Well, that's not totally true because they've had some awesome talent and very good teams over the years in basketball. Still, never the fan support anywhere near what we have in basketball.

It really baffles me when I tune in to a Big 12 basketball game (ANY game that we're not playing in....) and the stands are practically vacant. Even some of the good OSU teams over the years - a typical OSU - Texas Tech game might have 5,000 or so fans there. ?

I was pleasantly surprised to see how full the stands were at the last home football game. There will be half of that there for the next game and half of THEM will leave by halftime.

Texas AD going, going, gone... β€’ Sep 16, 2015 04:27 AM

@RockChalkinTexas said:

Patterson has overseen two popular hires at Texas β€” football coach Charlie Strong and men’s basketball coach Shaka Smart,

This sounds like it was written by a pretty astute politician. I know you live in Austin and I would like your take on it. My dad also lives there and he said the vibe he got from the Charlie Strong hire was it was Bullpoopoo. Nobody he has ever talked to thought it was a good fit for Texas. And while we KU fans are well acquainted with Shaka Khan Smart, the general consensus in Austin (according to my dad) was "who the hell is Shaka Smart?".

@Texas-Hawk-10 I really haven't heard of anyone calling for Beaty's head so far, but maybe I'm not listening closely enough.

I am in agreement with @drgnslayr in that I'm sick of being associated with a losing football program. I'm surrounded by 90% K-Staters and I get to listen to a LOT of BS during football season. Fortunately, the crap subsides when basketball is under way.

I wish I knew what was wrong with the football program. I desperately want them to excel. And by excel, I mean win 4 or 5 games. Talk about your lowered expectations. I DO know that "defeatist" fans are not the problem. We're more defeated than defeatist.

The fact that we're changing coaches every two years is not helping. Having said that, I personally wish we would have stayed with Bowen. While we weren't winning games, I felt like the tide had turned a little in their effort and execution.

I"m going to keep watching and listening. I'll surely complain some, but that's more because I am competitive and hate losing. But I'm always going to be glad when the first tip-off is here.

Texas AD going, going, gone... β€’ Sep 15, 2015 07:27 PM

Mr Strong better get it in high gear or he'll be right behind him. Lose 3 games at Texas and you are history. Just like here. Wait.....

All-Time KU Team β€’ Sep 15, 2015 04:36 PM

@ParisHawk Roy didn't recruit the whole country? California, NY, Iowa.... Oh well, water under the bridge.

All-Time KU Team β€’ Sep 15, 2015 04:17 PM

@ParisHawk Just because we have a nice rapport going here - WHY not Roy? He won TWO NC's at NC. Was there something about Kansas that he couldn't win here?

I'm kind of just being a smart aleck, but also something really bothers me that he won 2 there and none here....

All-Time KU Team β€’ Sep 15, 2015 03:29 PM

@ParisHawk Finally! I love it when the truth is revealed and everyone agrees that I am right.

That's why I do this with you guys instead of my family!

You obviously know that I'm just messing around. K-State has had some great players over the years. I just don't understand, when they're THAT close to true greatness, why they don't play here!!

The only thing that gives me hope for our football team is the fact that TCU, KSU and Baylor used to suck at least as bad as we do. For a long, long, time.

So I guess we need to study what they've been doing.

All-Time KU Team β€’ Sep 15, 2015 01:18 PM

@ParisHawk OK - I give up. Rolando Blackman was the greatest player in the history of college basketball. He would have put Wilt to shame.

Speaking of Mangino - did you hear about the time he was on a recruiting trip in Topeka? He got lost and went into a 7-11 and asked the clerk " How do I get to 470?" The clerk answered "Eat a salad once in a while."

And yes, I kinda wish he was still here.

All-Time KU Team β€’ Sep 15, 2015 12:57 PM

@ParisHawk Yeah - it was a K-State dig. Rolando Blackman comparatively would have been like T.J. Whatley if he'd been wearing Crimson and Blue. He only looked that good because he was surrounded by mediocre players. Lol.

@jayhawkeyes I've heard they've got a world class dodgeball and kickball team too!

All-Time KU Team β€’ Sep 15, 2015 11:13 AM

This is an impossible task! Start a new list asking about how many ex KSU players could have started / played at KU?

Maybe three or four? And even those are subjective - while they were great at KSU, they probably would have been pine-riders at KU....

All-Time KU Team β€’ Sep 14, 2015 09:58 PM

@Makeshift Watching KU football is my challenge right now...

All-Time KU Team β€’ Sep 14, 2015 09:06 PM

@Makeshift Two games into football season and you're BORED?? WOW.

As far as the all time KU basketball team - I can't do it. Wilt is number one - always has been, always will be. But the other four - there's just too many choices.

@Texas-Hawk-10 Yeah, the whole Big 12 season should be a disaster ( I wish that weren't the case, but it sure seems that way now) but I'm really not looking forward to Baylor and TCU.

@Texas-Hawk-10 I appreciate your enthusiasm and loyalty and I hope you're right. One comment on the Baylor game - I didn't see (and still haven't seen) the final score, but I watched until about midway through the 3rd quarter and Baylor REALLY struggled with Lamar. Heddy Lamar? Never mind.....

NEXT HALL OF FAMER - BILL SELF β€’ Sep 13, 2015 11:15 AM

@Lulufulu Were you at the bank? Asking if the check had been cleared to pay?
