zero bench points

DuJuan Harris' 2nd turnover of the year, so it's not all smiles and hugs in Jayhawk land.

11 AM Start, Wed NC STATE • Nov 23, 2022 05:10 PM

Fast break pull up 3 pointers. May be the first in Bill Selfs reign.

11 AM Start, Wed NC STATE • Nov 23, 2022 05:08 PM

Because it's never too early to get pissed at Joe Lunardi he has us as a 2 seed and we don't even get to play in the regional in KC.

11 AM Start, Wed NC STATE • Nov 23, 2022 05:07 PM

Free the 3 has finally been heard by HCBS!!! Been delayed a little bit but just finished watching the first half. Wow, that's some fun basketball. Not sure who's playing better Dick or Harris, but wow, both of them have been superb.

@kuballin10 Thanks, the biggest impediment to my golf game is just I can't play more than about 10 times a season. It's ok, although I love playing it's just not high priority enough to go to ranges and all that to try to learn a swing.

11 AM Start, Wed NC STATE • Nov 23, 2022 01:43 AM

@kuballin10 You play much? I wish I could play more but I don't live near courses I like. the only close course is called Lost Marsh, but I call it Lost Balls. I can lose more money there in golf balls than a gambling addict in Vegas playing the tables.

11 AM Start, Wed NC STATE • Nov 23, 2022 01:40 AM

@kuballin10 yes pride goeth before destruction, and in my golf game par goeth before destruction. They go together. Tomorrow mornings Bible study will commence at 8

Humility is my problem.

11 AM Start, Wed NC STATE • Nov 23, 2022 01:35 AM

@kuballin10 Thanks, I admit it, I am really nice.

11 AM Start, Wed NC STATE • Nov 23, 2022 01:31 AM

@Crimsonorblue22 I'll provide an expert scouting report on how to beat the Badgers if it comes to that.

One other Cal fact. He and the other sleazy coach Rick Pitino are the only ones to coach three different schools to the final four. That's just not the sort of thing that coaches who can't coach do.

BTW when I looked that up, I saw that Ray Meyer coached two different DePaul teams to the Final 4 36 years apart!

World Cup thread! • Nov 22, 2022 08:08 PM

@mayjay I don't really watch that much. Matches on in the mornings of weekdays doesn't help attract my eyes as I still have that daily four letter word to attend to. Not enough invested in it to record matches and watch when I get home, especially when there's college hoops to watch. I honestly don't know what FIFA stands for although I assume one is foosball. The I is for IMLAYINGONTHEFIELDACTINGLIKEIMHURT. The other F is probably some other F word and the A has to be America because it's always about America.

World Cup thread! • Nov 22, 2022 06:04 PM

@approxinfinity Thanks you too @AsadZ I'm not too knowledgeable about how the world cup works.

11 AM Start, Wed NC STATE • Nov 22, 2022 03:25 PM

@stoptheflop And then hopefully, KU-Wisconsin! Go Jayhawks, but if ever once there was a game I wouldn't mind them losing it'd be that one!

World Cup thread! • Nov 22, 2022 03:40 AM

Entertaining match and I really couldn't care less how US does. Stupid penalty, like really really stupid penalty leads to the draw. That PK in turn was just drilled. Speaking of drilling, England's gonna drill us on Friday and we'll be left waiting for next, next, next, next year.

@bskeet That's exciting. I miss my days as a HS dad going to wrestling and soccer matches screaming my head off like a fool! Have fun, enjoy the time!

I hate having to defend Cal because I really can't stand the guy.

Other games • Nov 21, 2022 08:04 PM

@Jethro You said "Calimari is the worst bench coach in America!" I said slightly exaggerated. Yours was greatly exaggerated! Remember that coach, the one we affectionately called squeaky? He might have been the worst, but actually, I used to say that about Scott Drew because I didn't really believe in him, until I had to two seasons ago.

Other games • Nov 21, 2022 07:59 PM

When cal coaches his babies each year he's teaching a whole new group of starters how to play. I truly believe if Cal had guys that stayed in school he'd have multiple rings. OF COURSE he's stated he wants to get guys to the NBA. I'd hate for him to be our coach for that reason.

Embiid • Nov 21, 2022 05:34 PM

Joel gonna sit for a few with a wrist injury. He's averaging 32 a game with 10 rebounds, 5 assists and 1.8 blocks. He is stuffing the stat sheet.

Other games • Nov 21, 2022 05:18 PM

Kentucky came into our house and absolutely steamrolled the future national champs. The underestimates of Cals coaching may be slightly exaggerated. That loss was why I was pessimistic almost til the end about our chances to win it all. I really had no confidence that we could get steamrolled by 20 points and be good enough to win a Natty.

Other games • Nov 21, 2022 02:49 AM

We're 5 wins ahead of Kentucky now.

Other games • Nov 21, 2022 01:55 AM

@wissox To be fair, I've seen the weight room and walked right on by.

Other games • Nov 21, 2022 01:55 AM

@stoptheflop said in Other games:

Timme doesn't look like he's ever seen the weight room.

We'd like to see your picture and see if YOU have ever seen the weight room!

Other games • Nov 21, 2022 01:48 AM

Wow, don't know what happened but Ohio tied it somehow. They had 2 seconds left to go length of court which apparently they did.

Other games • Nov 21, 2022 01:46 AM

Michigan looked headed for OT against Ohio. Ohio misses potential GW shot and Michigan grabs rebound and Ohio kid fouls him 80 feet from his own basket. Michigan makes 2 FT's. Michigan fans not too pleased with Juwan Howard. They should be going to OT but the Ohio kid lost his head. 17-8 foul count aids Michigan on their homecourt. Refs aiding ranked home teams against mid major visitors is nothing new of course, but it really shouldn't happen.

Other games • Nov 21, 2022 12:15 AM

How about the early season schedule for Gonzaga? After today against Kentucky they have a first round game against Portland St. Then provided they win and a date with Purdue or West Virginia, and then probably Duke. They'll play Baylor after Turkey days are done, and also see Alabama before Christmas. Of course the rest of their schedule sucks.

"Bill Self... needed on Aisle 7, please! • Nov 20, 2022 04:30 AM

I wasn't watching. That's why they almost lost.

Deuces, Kauffman • Nov 18, 2022 03:54 PM

@nwhawkfan I went to the Houston stadium next to the Astrodome a few years back and was just amazed how it dwarfed the astrodome. I had never been in Houston at that point so I have no prior knowledge of what the Astrodome looked like before their current dome.

Other games • Nov 17, 2022 02:03 AM

@FarmerJayhawk That's what it looks like on TV. I'm not familiar with too many arenas but one I am is in Madison and while capacity is pretty high, the seats rise straight up from the court essentially and so even back row corners are not terrible.

By contrast the United Center in Chicago has like you said a large footprint and denizens of the back rows feel pretty isolated.

Other games • Nov 16, 2022 11:00 PM

Tar Heels are not selling out the Dean Dome. Interesting. Really kind of dumb stadium design I think. Build it for 16,300, pack em in and create sold out atmosphere every game.

I just checked and Kentucky doesn't sell out their huge arena either. So much for blue blood status.

Deuces, Kauffman • Nov 16, 2022 10:53 PM

@dylans That's the trick. Retro is in and since it's in, many teams have built their retro stadium and none of them really stand out. They're all nice enough but have any really stood out from the crowd since Camden Yards? Pittsburgh's and SF's are fine too but theirs were enhanced by the natural setting. The Yankees just tried to recreate Yankee Stadium which I think worked well. I know the architect for Pittsburgh is a KC guy and I'm guessing he might be very interested in designing it. Should he get it I don't think they'll have much to worry about.

Duke Kills Kansas... Kansas Wins Game! • Nov 16, 2022 05:32 PM

@drgnslayr I think your bias shows through on your comment about seeing how Sheyer worked the refs. Doesn't every coach work the ref? Maybe ESPN's bias shows through because they showed it, but I didn't see anything out of the ordinary.

Dook Game Thread • Nov 16, 2022 05:12 PM

Going to need to find some reliable guys off the bench. Points wise the bench contributed very little. The two bigs off the bench especially Zuby contributed in other ways.

Most cringeworthy moment was Joe chucking up a three and badly missing but got the rebound right back to him and chucked up another badly missed ball.

Duke Kills Kansas... Kansas Wins Game! • Nov 16, 2022 12:32 PM

Great summary! I might add the significance of a sequence early in the 2nd half. A guy literally steps on McCullers foot and falls and it's a foul, and then he had the amazing block that was also called a foul. He goes to the bench, I was seething as a 2 point lead went to a 5 point deficit. When he re entered at about the 10 minute mark the ship was steadied setting us up for the amazing finish.

The announcers noticed it not. Bilas couldn't really help but show he was pulling for his alma mater. I generally like him but while there was nothing real overt, his bias was still happening.

Dook Game Thread • Nov 16, 2022 05:25 AM

Dukes trees combined for 2 blocks. 4 of our players had 2 or more blocks.

Dook Game Thread • Nov 16, 2022 05:24 AM

Harris more assists than the other team combined.

Dook Game Thread • Nov 16, 2022 05:22 AM

UNC won by 6 at home against Gardner Webb, empty seats all over the place. Maybe we'd have trouble filling a huge arena like that too but it's kind of surprising.

Dook Game Thread • Nov 16, 2022 05:15 AM

@approxinfinity Yeah, it's kind of a sport of mine!

Dook Game Thread • Nov 16, 2022 05:13 AM

@StLJhawk Unbelievable. I mean when your team has 3 fouls with a minute left in the 2nd half and you've shot way more FT's than your opponent it really just demonstrates how much people get blinded by their affection for a certain team.

Anyone know how long our winning streak is?
