What the heck is a bear cat?
Pop made some news last night when he grabbed the mic and told spur fans to stop booing K Leonard. (sorry too lazy to look up his first name spelling!).
He learned to coach from one of the best, our very own Larry Brown. Pop was a grad assistant one of Larry's years here, the 85-86 season. It was almost like a sabbatical from his D3 job at Cal Pomona Pitzer. Well one game that season a lad from ISU playing for their great and underrated coach Johnny Orr shot an airball. We were destroying them at the time but didn't stop us students from the chant every time he touched the ball. Well we were still doing it ten minutes later and the poor boy probably wanted to go hide in the team bus, but Larry Brown grabbed the mic and told us to knock it off. We obediently followed suit and so the origin of last night actually started in Allen Field House.
@nuleafjhawk Just take a blanket, there's free sleeping everywhere out there.
@approxinfinity Thanks for what you do. I wish I could meet you and so many others in person some time, but then of course, maybe our online arguments would get physical!
@drgnslayr Good to hear from you! When someone disappears from these strange message boards it's a little confusing. Like all who've spoken we miss your great comments a lot. Hope you're brightening someone else's world. Come back if you want.
I still don't really know who all of these bench guys are. Too many new ones and they have similar games.
Always a relief to look competent at basketball again after a night in which we were the opposite. I think we defended very well. When we only foul 10 times and hold them to 60 points you're doing something well. the Vols got away with a lot of contact too I thought.
Watched much of Purdue Marquette and it was well played but kind of like last night with Marquette playing a little dirty. GLad to get out of the Aloha state healthy. Kev especially seemed to be on the wrong end of contact today.
People were critical of our missed layups today. These were mainly contested shots with shoves on the slick. Pushes with the hand to knock slightly off balance.
@Crimsonorblue22 Which play? The KJ foul? I didn't get a good look at it.
15-6 since the technical.
Dang momentum killing TO there.
Battled back to take the lead.
Bill's gonna be pissed about that alley oop.
I've been trying to tell you guys the refs aren't calling nada
MOre uncalled fouls at the beginning of that break.
Tennessee fouling all over the place and the zebras are blind.
A guy is allowed to just shove someone to the ground and then shoot a 3 pointer?
@KirkIsMyHinrich Yeah I see that now. Guessing E$PN wants these games early so they can show other marquee games tonight like Bucks/Celtics.
Man more stupid turnovers
@KirkIsMyHinrich If we'd won...
Strange we play back to back against former Texas coaches.
The interesting thing is we're a fairly knowledgable group and when things go south like last night we are all honest about it. We're all not just rah rah love my Jayhawks they can do no wrong type of fans. I yelled at the TV last night frequently at DaJuan. He was bad and I was mad at him. But he's a dynamic player.
@mayjay You are the worst which makes you the best.
I don't mind Shaka, obviously a minority here, but he can coach.
@cragarhawk Game would have been later afternoon if we'd won!
Hunter knows how to make the other guys look guilty by taking contact and falling.
ESPN you idiots, we can hear DWade, don't need to see him. But while you're at it ask him about his last game in college.
I'll do other things instead of enduring DaJuan criticism again.
@approxinfinity :crying_face:
Marquette bricking FT's. 1-4. Of course they're shooting a lot of FT's and they're not calling fouls on them. 3-0 foul count
I don't get nervous until the last minute.
Wow, looked at the box score of the prior game. Must've been hard to watch
Beat that team from Wisconsin!!
Interesting discussion. I've been curious to what kind of fan I'd be if my school was Duke or Kentucky. I'm guessing it might be a much tougher follow because of the constant turnover in those programs. Thankfully OAD's haven't been too much of Bill Selfs MO and I'm thinking he just wanted to avoid those guys who would probably bolt after a year. Grady Dick was a bit different because of his in state status, but would he have taken Grady if he was from lets say Texas or Boston or wherever? I'm a little doubtful.
What the portal has done to me is make these guys switch schools like they're changin their socks and it really is frustrating. We at least are one of the privileged schools that make a Hunter Dickinson possible, but even then I feel a little 'guilty' seeing him come here.
Dude dropped a pass, looked like a Bear.
@FarmerJayhawk Yes, my point exactly! (did they really go to OT? I hadn't heard)
Dickinsons stats should have an asterisk next to them for this game and the Kentucky game, you know, not D-1 competition.
Lets start protecting the goods here so you know our season doesn't blow up in a twisted knee or pulled groin or something.
We could feed Dickinson on every possession tonight I'd guess and score.
@KirkIsMyHinrich I scored 2 points in a college game against Clark U in Dubuque. I retired right then, walked off the court on top of my game, vowed never to return.
I mean this Chaminade team did upset top ranked Virginia and Ralph Sampson so we shouldn't be too surprised how they're playing.
Gene Honda doing the PA for this tournament. He's the White Sox PA guy and apparently really good because he gets gigs like this. I just saw him by the refs.
@FarmerJayhawk He did a Sox/Angels game and said "Wow, he hit it over the fence. Did you see that?" Benetti said, "Bill that was a foul ball".
@FarmerJayhawk YOU'RE WELCOME! I assume you're in agreement. I mean it's a game we're watching so why not have someone interesting like him.
Best Bill Walton line of the night so far. "That was the 6th worst post entry pass in the history of Kansas basketball."
Bill Walton is the best.
Wow, Braun had another nice game with 15 points and 6 boards, the NBA Braun that is. 2 assists, steal, block to boot.
Badgers play their first great game of the year after a real dud against Providence and a never had a chance close loss against Rocky Top. They destroyed Virginia 65-41 which was ranked 24th but prolly won't be after that debacle.
@Gorilla72 Been watching another game but Purdue has gone on a run it looks like.
@nuleafjhawk I had to google the name, but yes, I think it was.
Understandable. I'm not to that point yet, but I do ignore the comments "once a Jayhawk always a Jayhawk" that we see here. A kid goes pro too early, hello Cheick Diallo, Devon Dotson, Josh Jackson, Xavier Henry, Josh Selby, etc etc etc, or a kid being talked about in the other thread about how are the transfers doing now I just think, no, they're not Jayhawks. A coach like Bill Self believes in you enough to offer you a roster spot and after a year you say goodby to all of it? I do at least understand the life changing money the NBA offers, but then the NBA should just end their stupid rule forcing kids to sit out a year after HS.
@Texas-Hawk-10 They fixed it and put us in there. One of my friends kids plays for AM, that would be interesting.
