9 point game
@mayjay working on if this teaching thing doesn’t work out.!
@dylans He was inquiring if the buzzer beating 3 got off before the shot clock.
@DanR It's what I do!
My wife tells me if this corona thing takes me out that post I wrote will be a great way to go out.
SEC-ACC challenge happening this week. Used to be the week for the BIG-ACC challenge which was always a big week on the schedule for me. I suppose ESPN killed it for their precious network so you get LSU-Syracuse tonight with huge swaths of empty seats in the Carrier Dome
Tremarko
Brick city
Timberlake taking over.
Are there people here who never have had the opportunity to be at a Jayhawk game? Just curious.
this is not top 5 quality basketball right naw.
@DanR White screen of death? That's scary
First time I've watched one of these stupid things using my phone (and last, I'm protesting the greedy ESPN) does the screen go blank on phones during TO's? MIne just did.
I just can't believe a guy who scored 3000 points in HS like the EIU coach did and was the Illinois Mr. Basketball can look like Simmons does now. Same age as I am too. I hope he's alright.
Offthemarko
Whoa, Marty Simmons is an Illinois legendary HS player.
Protect the goods for Friday night against UCant.
This game is going to put me out of my misery once and for all. Not the worlds greatest mismatch, I mean there was Georgia tech 220-0 over Cumberland College in 1916 and Chiefs 41, Bears 10 much later than that. But I digress, as a newly corona(ted) sufferer I'm now stuck to my chair for the next few days, so I have much time to fill these pages with more stuff for you all to ignore or read to your amusement.
The Panthers reside alongside I-57 on the eastern edge of Illinois between Chicago and Cairo (pronounced Cayr0) at the confluence of two great streams of our continent, the Mississippi and Ohio Rivers. I mean Charleston, IL is not anywhere near the interesting confluence which is too bad because it would be by far the most interesting thing in town. Driving north and south along that road 54 times we figured out during the 900 mile trip between Baton Rouge and Chicago/or Wisconsin Charleston represented one of of those things we look forward to on a road trip. It was a place to pull off the interstate, yell at the kids, and get some really crappy food at some fast food joint. Needless to say if it was the other Charleston (no not the one in WV) we probably never would have made it to Chicago. This Charleston that KU is playing, and it's too bad it's not at EIU's gym because I would have gone, except then I would have had Corona and my thoughtful wife would have been telling me you can't go with Corona Virus.
But this is KU at last word so what to know about them? When I was matriculating at The Harvard of Mt. Oread our fine football team (they were decent when I arrived on campus in 1985) was playing EIU. I've struggled to prove this but Sean Payton, no relation to the GOAT Walter, was the QB there and presumably played, and lost to KU that day. So we saw the genesis of a great coach that day.
As for their basketball team they hilariously scored scored 55 in the second half against Iowa just last year and beat the suckeyes and their whiney baby coach of the famed frantrum. In the name of journalistic integrity I must point out EIU beat my other slightly less favorite team also...in 1987 when UW sucked bad in hoops and I was at KU and coulda cared less.
Their current team is deserving of 344 Ken Pom. They've played their 1-57 counterpart U of I and got destroyed. Beaten two bad teams Coppin St (which used to have a coach named "Fang". "Hello Mom and Dad, I'd like you to meat my new boyfriend Fang") and basically gotten beat down by the rest. The EIU message board ("EIU Buckets) will be in full meltdown mode by the time they jump the ball. Frankly they're one of the teams that make you wonder why they're competing in D1 because back in their D2 days they were regular NCAA visitors to their tournament.
Of course, I think we make it to 99 points by about the 10 minute mark and then go cold leaving a final score of 99-3 when Tiger Booker hits a 3 at the buzzer.
@mayjay Exactly, I already got mine from some guy living under the Mass St. Bridge in the Kaw. Can't wait to go!
The consensus seems to be Guaranteed Rate game at most sports sites. This to me is a little bit disrespectful as our team is 30 in the other receiving votes which kind of implies top 15 type bowl. I know a lot goes into bowl game selections with all of the bowl game tie ins, but I was hoping our really nice season was rewarded with a game against another decent team. When I see awful 5-7 minnesota slotted into the same game in some projections you'll understand what I'm getting at.
@mayjay Sounds like fun, but Fox doesn't want us there it's sending us to the Guaranteed Rate Bowl against Northwestern. This is nauseating to me as a White Sox fan as our awful stadium has the awfullest named stadium in sports with a logo as a red arrow pointing down.
@benshawks08 Ah, to be honest, I should have read your entire comment then I would have seen your humor!
@MR11 said in Now that regular Season is over / time to for some reflections.:
To go one further, KU was also the better team in the OSU game. This team was a few plays away from being 11-1 and sitting one game away from playoff football. That hurts a bit but also goes to show this is one of the greatest program turnarounds in football history.
You raise a good point with UT/OU leaving there is going to be a power vacuum in football. If Lance hangs around long enough, we have as good of a chance as any to fill that void.
But I thought Colorado had the greatest turnaround in college football, uh even sports history!!
@benshawks08 If you ever take something @nuleafjhawk writes as serious again we're going to ban you from this board and have you committed!
@Crimsonorblue22 ESPN loves bowls and they're to be blamed for the nauseatingly bad Minnesota team at 5-7 getting a bowl bid.
@dylans Yeah, was trying to remember if he was still with us.
Here's how much better our season could have been: There's 7 teams with better or equal records than us in the league and we played 6 of them. There's 6 teams with worse records and we played 3 of them. There's so much to like about what this team did this year and the future is shining bright.
Not worth another thread, but just read that Tony Gwynn played college hoops at SDState and had 590 assists in his career. He had 434 strikeouts in his 20 year MLB career. It must drive him nuts to watch guys strike out as much as they do these days.
Jerry Palm has us in the Guaranteed Rate vs. Rutgers.
@dylans Yes, it determines we go to the stupid named bowl.
@DanR He was fun to watch. First half perfect 10-10 passing and led a 2 play drive in final 25 seconds of the 1st half that went about 50 yards after a nice Jared Casey kickoff return (yes you read that right!).
@Crimsonorblue22 My wife thinks the logo looks like it was inspired by Chick Filet.
These announcers are really pretty odd. Cincy basketball has proven very little. 5-0 against week competition. They did beat Georgia Tech by quite a bit.
Cincy sucks like we used to suck.
Jason Bean is done, isn't he?
Jason Bean, amazing.
Watched the replay in slow mo, he definitely let go of the ball before it hit the pylon.
@kjayhawks :disappointed_face:
If we win 42-10 I win a KU football jersey from some ku twitter account. That missed FG was divinely appointed.
@kjayhawks That would be fun.
We aint gonna blow another big lead are we?
@Crimsonorblue22 Lance Liepold is an awesome coach with enormous success at the college level. This isn't going to end. He's building a program that will be sustainable.
Kansas football is fun.
What an offense this is!!
@approxinfinity, I've been working on this post for a while, then saw your question. Looked ahead at next seasons schedule. While it's not super stout non conference wise, it's also not filled with cream puffs except for Lindenwood (?). Illinois on the road, home against UNLV completes the non conf schedule. BASED ON THIS YEARS RESULTS it looks like a pretty favorable schedule. At KSU will be the toughest, every other game will probably favor us.
@kjayhawks That's not what we were told. I understand playing your cards close to your vest but lying to the home fans is just kind of strange.
Beginning of the game they said they'll use Ballard only in an emergency so he can be redshirted this season. So why the heck didn't they think of that last week when we all wanted Bean to start?
Amazing!
@approxinfinity Oh you mean a biturong?
We shouldn't name a play where the RB lines up as the QB the wildcat formation. I mean who wants to run a play named after our bitter rivals?
Wow, what an interception by cobee!! I'm a little behind, was out working off some turkey weight.
