Last Saturday I was bored so I found the video of Wisconsins win over Kentucky last season and watched it end to end. My wife walked in and snidely remarked about me watching an old bball game. She just doesn't understand, even after 25 years of marriage.
@wrwlumpy I always assumed you were a travel agent with all of your informative posts about our next opponent. I could go to Hawaii too, don't even need a motel room, just a blanket on the beach.
It's probably wise to watch the 08 game without sound as Billy Packer is annoying beyond belief. I never minded Billy too much, but good grief, they probably didn't show him on camera because I'm sure he was all decked out in Memphis gear.
Katrina is what brought me to Louisiana and tomorrow night, if anyone is interested, is kind of that story on ESPN. Wuerffels Way is a documentary about a school named Desire St. Academy which Danny Wuerffel had a hand in starting. I came after Katrina and was involved here for about 3 years until it closed down. It's on at 6:30 Central time Friday night.
@BeddieKU23 Chromecast is awesome! I've found a site that streams sports that is very reliable and have been able to watch white sox games at will for the first time in over 20 years!
It seems like we've talked a lot about this. We get our guys every year I think but they make us sweat it out for sure. We've lost recruits to much lesser programs before and will again. Hard to read the mind of 18 year olds sometimes.
Had our recruits worked out to their pre KU rankings, we'd been knocking at the door of championships I believe in the last three years. But injuries, academics, and even the Cliff scandal have robbed us of our true potential.
Keep the faith. This year will be a special year. (If Cheick checks out)
Since we're talking borders, I think we ought to build a fence on the border. Just my two cents worth. Got to protect our jobs, our serenity, our very way of life. We just can't risk having these desperate sad souls come in and steal our women and children and our economic security.
So build the wall now right down the state line between Kansas and Misery!
I was watching CBS' excellent Sunday Morning reporter Mo Roca yesterday and he was sporting a KU shirt as he was doing a segment on window washers.
Over on KUSports there is an article about Self's optimism for the upcoming season and he doesn't expect a Cheick answer for another month. How in the heck do things like this take a month?
@Texas-Hawk-10 I see your Houston or bust mantra for the 2015-16 season. If all these guys pull it together and you get to see a Final Four in person like I did here in Louisiana, then it's awesome for you! I'm close enough to Houston I could be tempted to drive over too!
@Texas-Hawk-10 Well, would you rather have a competent guard for the next two seasons or have one who gave us one solid year as a freshman then left? I hear what you're saying, but I think we really may benefit from Wayne probably for another 2 seasons now.
I'm not one to say woe is me, we can't keep up recruiting anymore. We obviously haven't seen spectacular results with ours, but we've continued to recruit at a high level. I'd say we've been unlucky with Embiid's health issue and Alexanders eligibility issue more than anything. Self always seems to get his guys, but he sure makes us worry and fret while doing so.
But of course, let's get Bolden and some more. Let's get some guys who will stick around for a few years. Let's get another Wayne Selden who seems poised to break out and be the star we thought he'd be. Let's find more transfers to develop like Withey was or hopefully Mickelson (sp?) becomes.
We might get to see a lot of good deals on slightly used shoes being sold by starving Nebraska players, I mean, I guess these student athletes need the money.
@jaybate-1.0 Is Imelda Marcos still alive? Maybe she could answer that one for us!
@HighEliteMajor waxed eloquently on this several weeks ago. Not going to take the time to find it, but the jist is that Self has to do a better job of recruiting these kids who have major red flags.
When does school start? Didn't we have one of these drag on into the school year even meaning the kid couldn't attend classes?
To answer the question, I'm a pessimist by nature, I still think Mario is gonna miss that shot in 08 for example, so I say Cheick is a none and done.
@Crimsonorblue22 Let's hope you're right!
124th out of 128 D1 teams. Lowest ranked major conference team. Maybe we should give ourselves the death penalty. I'm sorry to rehash an old, old topic, like from when I attended KU in 1985-88, but this is embarrassing. Mangino relieved us out of our misery for a few years and we're grateful for that, but he was losing a lot by the time he was booted out too, so I'm not sure if he had what it took either.
I applaud you all who watch/defend our football team, but as for me, I just barely pay attention. Until Late Night.
Live in Russia half the year or in the US all of the year? Easy choice!
@ParisHawk Thanks for the clarification.
This has been my argument for years against pay for student athletes. They already get paid some sort of stipend plus tuition depending on the scholarship.
I've learned living around LSU here that a lot of DI college athletes don't receive full scholarships. Baseball for example has 11 (I think that's the correct #) scholarships, which they split among the 35 rostered players. I'm not sure if this is the practice nationwide, but I assume it is.
@brooksmd Until you see your team with the World Series trophy, I've got the upper hand on that one with 2005 still fresh in my mind!!
I think everyone here is ready. The board has run out of things to talk about, at least until a Cheick ruling comes out.
Sox swept the Angels this week. How ya'll doing against them? I'm watching Sox Cubs
@nuleafjhawk One of my favorite sports quotes. Reporter to Babe Ruth: "Do you think it's right that you make more money than the president?" Babe Ruth: "I had a better year than he did".
@elpoyo That comment may be suitable for KUSports, well actually, not even there. It's simply one of the most outrageous statements I've ever seen on this site.
@approxinfinity I saw that and I'm not sure I like it. Kind of Favre like to me. Could hurt recruiting for whoever comes next I'd think.
Coach Cal is in our heads.
I don't want him in my head.
I want KU to replace our misery with final fours and championships. When we do that then we're not worried about some sleaze ball whom the media fawns over.
I"ll enjoy hanging out with you guys more during hoops season!!
I haven't seen enough of the Sox this year to notice that..
@brooksmd Lit the grill for dinner today and it actually cooled the air around it!
@brooksmd Let's Geaux White Sox!
@brooksmd The umps an idiot!! Good game, maybe I'll hang around tomorrow! Stay cool!
@brooksmd Reminded me of the Eric Gregg game where he got someone on the Marlins 15 K's in a playoff game!
@Crimsonorblue22 Yeah it's waaaah or whatever. An umpire decides to end a game with a hitter who has hit two homers tonight standing at the plate with the bat on his shoulders. There was no way it was a strike and that guy has been making calls like that all night. Let the players decide the game we like to say!
How is a pitch 6 inches off the ground and 3 inches off the plate a strike? That home ump has been stretching the strike zone all night.
@brooksmd There was one year he seemed to care and was a classical 5 tool guy out there.
Man, I'm tired of Herrera. He's like Ryan. His arm never seems to tire.
How is Rios? He was an enigma with the Sox. Multi-talented but always seemed not to care.
Ever notice how Sox catcher Soto can't throw it back to the pitcher? He's done that all year.
@brooksmd Well this isn't like our hitting this year!
Sox making it interesting! This is not like our team!
Abreu is worth the price of admission.
@brooksmd The memories of 2005 are still relatively fresh, but we need to start getting competitive again.
This Sox team is maddening. We beat up on weak teams and then get beat up by good teams.
I break for dinner and everything falls apart.
Surprised @brooksmd isn't here. It's 105 degrees outside, so I know he's not outside.
Jose!
I just saw this comment on CBS sports by one of their hoops writers:
- Cheick Diallo's status will ultimately determine Kansas' ceiling
The Jayhawks are always going to be the favorites in the Big 12 as long as Bill Self is the coach, but having a chance to get to a Final Four and win a national title next season will depend on whether or not Kansas has Diallo in the lineup. The Kansas City Star reported this week that the 6-foot-9 freshman has still yet to be cleared by the NCAA and that will obviously have a major effect as to what people can expect from this team next season. The Jayhawks have several proud veterans returning in Frank Mason, Wayne Selden, Devonte Graham, Brannen Greene, Perry Ellis, and Jamari Traylor who should all be better than they were a year ago, but remember this: if Kansas is ranked among the top teams the country heading into next season because it added Diallo in the spring. No player in the 2015 class and maybe all of college basketball has a motor like this kid, who attacks rebounds off the glass like a flock of seagulls goes after a ham sandwich. If the Jayhawks have Diallo, they're as good as anybody playing. If they don't, they drop down the line -- immediately.
We lead the league in runners on 3rd with less than two outs who don't score.
@Crimsonorblue22 Well this was a KU med center ad. Don't see too many red shirts there!
NIce KU sign behind home plate
