@Crimsonorblue22 No excuses!
Shark on the mound. Good plays by both 3rd basemen in the 1st inning. Which Shark will show up is the question.
@wissoxfan83 As has happened countless times, Sox go down quietly in the first. Guthrie is a Sox killer for some reason.
Anyone here, I might be able to hang around a little on this one.
@HighEliteMajor I can see last year being repeated with a bit of an upgrade due to experienced players like Perry, Wayne, Frank, and Graham. If Diallo is eligible and doesn't disappoint like Cliff, and/or Bragg lives up to his lofty ranking, then we'll be a top five team I believe.
One positive, it'll be an election year. Good things happen to KU in election years with Bill Self.
It's gonna be over 100 today with our everpresent humidity. Maybe I'll take the time to watch this today because I'm sure not going outside!
I don't follow the NFL too closely so I haven't heard of him. 42 sacks in three seasons means the kid can play, but how sad. It said he maid a bomb threat in an airport and wasn't arrested. One of the privileges of playing in the NFL I guess.
@Crimsonorblue22 He is a very talented player. Hopefully he gets his act together.
@BeddieKU23 You are right about UW, they have lost a lot. Vitto Brown is ready to shine I think. Bo's teams almost always finish ranked higher than they start the year.
@BeddieKU23
You said, "What would a top 5 be without UK, UNC or Duke?"
You realize people see us in the top five and say the same thing they're saying about UK, UNC and Duke? We get plenty of lofty preseason attention almost every year as well, which is better than the alternative, like the Badgers being underappreciated like they are again this year!
What is also great for us is there are three other teams in that top 5 with KU connections, Turg, Roy, and Cal. (I know we don't like to admit it, but he was a Jayhawk, once a Jayhawk always a Jayhawk!)
I wouldn't worry about it. These polls this time of year are not too serious. And if Cheick doesn't cheick out we will struggle to be top ten.
@drgnslayr I didn't like the sound of Self's quote to be honest.
I want one of those window decals by the way. Could your friend go back and steal it for me?
@jaybate-1.0 Your stretch to sound like Spahn and Sain and pray for rain fell a little short on this one!
Why us? Does this happen to other schools? I'd guess it does, but seriously, this is ridiculous.
@wrwlumpy Clean up in Lane 2!
With todays current events bragging about being a lion killer is not too wise!!
I'll be like someone from the state next door just this once! Show me! I am optimistic, but not overly optimistic. Some bitter tastes from March for three years in a row (woe is us!) has me a bit guarded at this point.
@jaybate-1.0 Can KU hire him?
@JReyn Yes Hopson from Tennessee according to the article I linked which I think stated he was a freshman in 2004.
As for the Kaminsky comparison:
See the portion of Kcmatt7's comment that I quoted. That is what made me make the comparison to Kaminsky. I never stated they were the same player. I can guarantee after Frank's freshman year that you would have said no way Frank was ready for the NBA just like you wrote Cliff is not ready for the NBA.
This has been a very cordial site for the years it's been up, so we don't often see someone write what someone wrote as being a weak bunch of BS. It's great to see new posters here like you and @Kcmatt7 but we won't react too well if our civility and fun we've had here gets compromised.
@globaljaybird From the lack of discussion here I assume the Royals aint doing too well.
Sox game just started. Not watching Royals after all!
Detroit is dumping. Just got rid of Soria to Pittsburgh
Just discovered this game is on MLB network. Maybe I'll watch while waiting for Sox to start.
@brooksmd There's a wood bat league called the Northwoods league. They have a team near our Wisconsin house called the Wausau Woodchucks. Ben Zobrist is probably their biggest pro success story.
I knew there was really little hope for the division, but wild card, it's there for the taking!
Sox-Sox in rain delay. We're only 2.5 out of the wildcard after our 7 game win streak. Red Sox are looking really pitiful which is a welcome sight. Blue Jays, wow some major upgrades which is good for the division with Price gone from the division. Royals upgrades good too?
@Kcmatt7 said:
In all honesty, Cliff just really isnβt that good. He has horrible footwork. He isnβt good on defense. He has long arms, but you saw how many times he missed dunks. His vertical was nothing special.
That's why I compared him to Frank Kaminsky which was written about him as a freshman. Lighten up dude.
But adults cost this young man a four year or even two year career at KU. I know there's a lot of ifs, but let's say he doesn't get into eligibility troubles. So he finishes the year most likely still an enigma, stating that he wanted to stay at KU, which he did actually.
He had no choice to enter the draft since his eligibility was used up, because of his guardian. Talent evaluators who hand out stars up to 5 are to blame for overrating him. I watched him play a HS game and frankly, didn't see what the hype was about.
But we all know what three and four years of elite coaching would have done for him. Did anyone consider Frank Kaminsky an NBA prospect after one year of college? So his handlers cost him the opportunity to do what college does for you, get ready for a career.
First player since someone from Tennessee in 04 to be a top 5 recruit to not get drafted.
I really want to blame the adults who mismanaged this young man.
@JayHawkFanToo I didn't want to look like a head in the sand KU homer and say what you said about the infractions at KU, but I should have. It was not a major scandal for sure. And it brought us Roy Williams so there was a silver lining.
He gave me a national championship my senior year of college. He can do no wrong in my book!
@tis4tim Ah, I remember the show, but don't think I ever watched it! There is a Carver High in Chicago and thought you were referencing that! Lots of episodes on youtube I just saw so maybe I'll check it out.
@brooksmd Hey Brooks, It's nice to be home (that was a white lie!) but we enjoyed a summer without any temps above 84 degrees, until we arrived down here of course!
Royals are looking unbeatable, Sox are on a 6 game roll too, in the wild card hunt kind of. Jayhawks season drawing closer, school starts next week, life's going well! Didn't bring back any cheese but did bring back some Wisconsin Maple Syrup made by good friends.
Back in Lousyana and internet and bugging Royal fans!
@tis4tim Wow, I like your knowledge of the Chicago public scene! I've more or less lost touch with Chicago hoops. I used to attend Proviso West tournament on trips home at Christmas, but it's been 4 or 5 years since I've been there. Don't know of the Reeves you're talking about. I love Chicago public league basketball, Nothing like it in the country in my opinion.
Good, last time we faced Crean it was 2003 and we were beating him 70-30 in a final four game.
Gooden bolted when it was clear that had he stayed we'd have been a threat to go undefeated. Nck, Drew, Kirk, Wayne, Aaron, Keith. Wouldn't have mattered if he'd stayed or not had we made some FT's, but if he had stayed, Wayne plays less, doesn't get hurt, maybe, ob boy, what a powerhouse that would have been.
For that reason Gooden gets booted off.
Notable recent omissions. Rush, Langford, Jacque, Richard Scott, Calvin Thompson, Ron Kellogg, Cedric Hunter, BMac.
Of course, if Joel, Wigs stick around, they very well would have nosed their way onto the list.
Lots of ifs.
That was a great one too. He named some of his dunks as I recall. Hot Rod Hundley was a good one too, but I think the greatest nickname in all of sports, ever, has got to be Dr. J. We've got our own Dr. J. Dr. @jaybate-1.0
Put Jo Jo in there, somehow, someway. Not his fault the officials missed the call against Texas Western. He makes that shot, they get the call right and there's no movie about them, and possibly another championship for us.
I scrolled down the top ten player list and noticed no top ten player lists for misery. What a shame!
That was back when players had great nick names too!
As I recall our biggest weakness last year was a lack of an inside game, and please correct me if I'm wrong. I know we've added some inside guys, but rookies are always a crapshoot.
So the question in my mind is did we add enough of an inside presence to support the great talent we have outside the paint?
Cheick, Hunter, Landen, Carleton, your table is ready.
I like your'thoughts of Bo!
@drgnslayr And we'll not have to play against Duke and their hand picked Duke employee officials like we did last time!
@konkeyDong Nice summary. It'll be fun to pull this out of the archives in January, after the Kentucky game to see how you did.
Personally I don't see us going undefeated in the non conf. MSU, SDSU, and UK will probably mean a loss to one of them. Maui is a toss up, although we appear to be the toughest team there, it still is a strange environment to play in and you're not sure how the team will respond.
We have a few too many cupcake games to suit me, but that's just opinion.
@brooksmd @globaljaybird @Crimsonorblue22 Kudos to the Royals! I really thought they were a one hit wonder but they're proving me wrong. I was really hoping with Sale going today we'd get the split.
In a week we'll be back in Baton Rouge and I'll have instant internet service and I'll be able to smack talk you all a lot more. But for now, good luck Royals.
Na Na Na Na, Na Na Na Na, Hey Hey Hey Goodby!:smiley:
ROCK CHALK WHITE SOX
Can't read now, I'll cheick it out later.
I said on another thread that KU scrapped their way to this win. Once the shots stopped falling they kept so many live balls from going Germany's way. Then we'd go down and miss and keep it alive.
Oh and the game should have ended in regulation I think with Mason shooting two, but the refs swallowed their whistles!
I'm fortunate to have watched.
I had the unique experience of watching the game with the niece of a former KU player, walk on Joel Branstrom. She is dating my son in Chicago and came up to the lake for the weekend with us. She's from Lawrence and into KU hoops.
I was impressed by our toughness. We won that game by scrapping for every loose ball after our shots stopped dropping.
