Alleged Eligibility • Sep 22, 2015 09:34 PM

When the principal/headmaster is also the basketball coach and they've got kids coming in as boarders my radar goes up a little bit. I describe myself as an evangelical Christian and I've seen too many schools started with the Christian name that then go on with their mission to dominate a particular sport in their state. I can't say that's the case here obviously, but I take a show me attitude towards many of these places. They're all over Louisiana and many were started in the aftermath of Brown v. Topeka so their little Christian children didn't have to integrate with the African American kids. Shameful.

Right now I'm hoping that OSNAS is as legit as it comes, not only for our own selfish desire for Jayhawk domination, but also because those people are going to be judged if their motivation is not what they say it is.

Cheick, please • Sep 22, 2015 01:50 PM

@nuleafjhawk

Well, as stated above I'm a pessimist and I'm always right about my pessimism so I say he doesn't play and we lose again in the 2nd round after finishing off another Big 12 championship.

Sad news • Sep 22, 2015 02:29 AM

Sad news indeed. I must say I hate guns as much as I love KU basketball.

I've lost students to gun violence. That hurts a lot.

I've lost students because they were the trigger pullers. That hurts a lot.

I've had students who have had mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters, friends, etc killed by guns. That hurts to see them come back to school.

I've had at least two students who witnessed their fathers shoot their mothers. That hurts a lot.

I want my friends who use them to continue their hunting, but I've had enough of them otherwise.

Should KU Allow Its Team to Play Rutgers? • Sep 22, 2015 12:58 AM

@jaybate-1.0 I was from a leafy suburb along the Erie Lackawana about 25 miles out from Manhattan. My dad took the train to the PATH and walked to his office in ATT with an office view of the Brooklyn Bridge. I was in his office once and visited the bathroom which had a double hung window, which was wide open, I climbed up on the radiator and stuck my head out, 25 stories above the sidewalk. He was a block or two from the World Trade Centers when they were being built. He used to grab an ATT hard hat on his lunch break and get on a construction elevator and go up as high as he could.

I absolutely loved being a boy near NYC. 1st baseball game was in old Yankee Stadium, the original house that Ruth built. Went to a Knicks game where George McGinness (SP?) missed 3 FT's in a row, remember the inane 3 to make 2 rule they had for a couple of seasons? I saw Joe Torre ground into four double plays in one game in Shea Stadium, a MLB record to this day. And I also jumped on the undefeated Rutgers bandwagon of 1976 when they were one of two unbeatens at the final four. They got waxed by Michigan which got waxed by undefeated Indiana. Come to think of it, that final four you could say, had 3 Big1G teams in it!

@Crimsonorblue22 I saw norlins.

Geeze, I posted this a week ago, and am still waiting.

Should KU Allow Its Team to Play Rutgers? • Sep 21, 2015 09:09 PM

As a Big1G fan, I am still in shock they were invited to the league.

I actually spent k-6th grade in NJ, a great state really, from my perspective, but it's state u has not been all that great.

And I've never said Joisey!

HIlarious! I'm a bible scholar and this one cracks me up.

"Coaches can no longer call timeouts during live-ball situations. They’ll also have one fewer to use (four total for the game) and only three in the second half. Hopefully this will help eliminate the eye-rolling practice of having games that are already decided extended by timeouts."

I don't know what to think about this no timeouts during liveball situations. This means no timeouts to set up a last second play? No TO's to help your player when they're trapped? They're only given 4 so they can't waste a whole lot of these anyways, but this will definitely change the game.

@Statmachine Is that his Svitheart?

I just saw a Sports Illustrated from March which was the baseball preview. It had the Indians winning the World Series (if you don't follow they are below .500 at present) and the Royals losing 88 games. It had no AL teams picked for the playoffs that are going to make the playoffs.

In other words, I'd rather be end of season champs than before season champs!

@Crimsonorblue22 That game wasn't embarrassing for me. I didn't lose that game. No one the next day mocked me or yelled at me or kicked me. Sure, I was sad and depressed a little, but to compare a bad loss for our hoops team to season on season of crappy play just doesn't make sense.

Is it possible to be a fair weather KU football fan while being a hoops fanatic?

@Texas-Hawk-10

I bailed on KU football too, so don't just pile on @drgnslayr I wrote my feelings a few posts above his.
But people crack me up when they blame a fan for bringing down a team. If we just cheer louder the team will do better I guess. We're not supposed to have a defeatist attitude after getting beat by SD State and Memphis by about 40 points?

Congrats to my friends here who support the KU football team. No one stopping you. But goodness, it's a game. If we don't want to get behind a team that is an embarrassment then let us.

Sometimes, because life is too short, you just have to give up on a team and not even care. That's me at this point. That's me at this point for the Bears too. I doubt I'll watch a game this year. But if that day comes for KU basketball, then we are to be pitied as fans. Saturdays in the fall are usually spectacularly beautiful days. We get outside before the onset of winter and enjoy. Of course, it's easy to enjoy those days in Memorial Stadium, but you get the point. Not having a game to watch Saturdays because you don't really care just frees you up to do other things.

All-Time KU Team • Sep 15, 2015 02:44 AM

@JayHawkFanToo Absolutely, I can't believe I forgot about Clyde, but what an influential player he was!

All-Time KU Team • Sep 15, 2015 02:43 AM

@SkinnyKansasDude

Do you think Wiggins deserves to be on the all time team after only playing one season? (Don't get me wrong, this is just a very subjective list and you can put whoever you want on it!)

All-Time KU Team • Sep 15, 2015 01:35 AM

Mine is personal, Danny, Pritchard, Piper, Newton, and whoever else started, Harris? Gueldner? 1988 a few weeks before I graduated, that's my all time team!

Of course you might want to put Wilt, Jo Jo, Paul, and Wayne Simien on it instead.

Cheick, please • Sep 14, 2015 04:07 PM

@drgnslayr

I just don't get what could take so long. Obviously Cheick isn't their only player being investigated, but goodness, how hard is it to certify that a kids transcripts meet NCAA snuff?

@VailHawk Thanks, it just popped into my mind! Of course lots of things do that aren't so clever or witty, but I go ahead and type them anyways :(

Cheick, please • Sep 14, 2015 02:24 PM

I can't stand this suspense. Give us our Cheick. Now. We mean it.

NEXT HALL OF FAMER - BILL SELF • Sep 13, 2015 01:08 PM

Back to hoops computer nerds!

That list of coaches to someday make the hall had some strange names or criteria. It seemed like making a FF would get you in or even getting close like Sean Millers 4 elite 8's. But Steve Fishers ring and two other championship games doesn't get him in?

10 PHOG! I mean PHOF!

@wrwlumpy

My only memory of him was finishing his career with the Bulls for a season or so. Great to see another Jayhawk enshrined though.

I saw the name George Raveling on the list of inductees. I heard something interesting about him. In 1963 he was involved in the Civil Rights movement as a young man. He was at the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom. Somehow, and I forget the exact details, he ended up with the handwritten copy of MLK's speech and kept it til this day.

@jaybate-1.0

East Lansing is too far inland to receive lake effect. Just educating as you educated on Larry and Magic!

Our league has really not done much nationally outside of us. Hopefully the cream will rise to the top and KU will have some fierce competition. The league has been good, but not great for quite a few years now.

On the other hand I could care less if we were in a SEC type league, having 3 teams qualify, and we were competing for national championships every year.

Just win baby and all this talk will take care of itself.

Ku mascot being violated. • Sep 09, 2015 05:04 PM

@HighEliteMajor

I'm offended and here's why. I was raised with an ethic that didn't tolerate crude, sexually explicit, or innuendo material. Dad would shut the TV off if the word sex was mentioned. Now this was the 60's and 70's so it wasn't like every minute like it is today.

IF KSU's explanation was that it was the star trek thing and non of them had any intention of communicating a sexual message, then fine, it was funny. But IF it was as many/most saw it, then it's highly offensive. How many children were at that game that knew nothing of oral sex and whose parents didn't think they wanted to explain it to their 7 or 8 year old?

You call it college humor. Does college humor mean it has to be crude? I have college kids and I wouldn't brush it off if one of them made a similar joke as 'college humor'.

I know we're never going back to puritan Victorian values in this country and probably shouldn't. But I don't want to see a rated R half time show on the football field either.

I know these things are quite subjective at times, and I really don't know enough about the others on it to argue their inclusion on the list, but essentially this is saying Perry Ellis is not one of the top 12 seniors in college basketball. I imagine he'll show up on some preseason 2nd-3rd/honorable mention lists, so how could he not be one of the top 12 seniors?

Frank is excluded from the top 10 juniors, which is hard to believe.

Twins vs Royals - Game 1 • Sep 08, 2015 01:21 AM

@brooksmd

I seen it. Wow. By the way, I use stream2watch very successfully for all my MLB viewing. Of course MLB network/ESPN would never show the Sox, and really, haven't shown the Royals that much despite their reign as AL champs.

Ku mascot being violated. • Sep 07, 2015 02:24 PM

I only thought Misery would stoop this low. At KU we're surrounded by collegiate lowlifes!

BG, Meet Kyle Korver • Sep 07, 2015 01:13 AM

@jaybate-1.0 I obviously would love to see him develop into a Kyle Korver type player, but if he does I'd be surprised. I'd love to see him be a Kyle Korver type player this season, like he was for about half of last season. It's a fun thing to watch when he's on.

@Crimsonorblue22 Ha! Good one! I would've joined you Friday but I was out.

Sox causing Royals fans to hide in shame. • Sep 06, 2015 09:16 PM

@brooksmd Yeah, sorry, I have Sox fandom to the end, but yes, it was unexpected!! Stormy a bit. My daughter wen to her first LSU game, you know how that turned out.

Sox causing Royals fans to hide in shame. • Sep 06, 2015 08:01 PM

@MoonwalkMafia I sure hope so. This team has too much talent to be foundering near the bottom of the division.

Sox causing Royals fans to hide in shame. • Sep 06, 2015 07:53 PM

@Crimsonorblue22 If we can hold onto this, it will be an expected sweep.

@MoonwalkMafia You're the other Sox fan here, right?

Not a positive outlook • Sep 05, 2015 09:42 PM

I just read we fumbled a spike attempt? You can't make this stuff up.

Not a positive outlook • Sep 05, 2015 07:13 PM

@Lulufulu I just turned it off. Big comeback, then pffffftt.

@joeloveshawks But you agreed our win was kind of fluky, but then you said it wasn't a fluke we won because we were good? I agree we had a very good team that year, ask UNC, so I understand your point.

@hawkmoon2020 I kind of consider our NC in 08 a fluke, or maybe a miracle but we still have the banner, just like UConn's 2011 fluke, which was aided by our tourney favorite team not being able to beat VCU.

And actually, they have four NC's since 1999, one year before the subjective best teams since 2000 criteria was laid out.

Your last line? Spot on, let it start this year in fact.

Not a positive outlook • Sep 05, 2015 02:33 PM

@Kcmatt7 Wow, that is a positive outlook!

CWS vs Royals - Game 1 • Sep 05, 2015 02:26 PM

@brooksmd I might a little. UW-Bama tonight, I'll be watching that for sure! Tomorrow plans for LSU soccer in the afternoon.

CWS vs Royals - Game 1 • Sep 05, 2015 01:29 PM

Looks like if I'd chimed in to talk about this game I'd have been talking to myself!

@justanotherfan

You stated my case well.

I love KU basketball with a passion, like all of us here, but I also try to stay in perspective. We are THE greatest program in the conference and one of the three or four greatest in the country. Perhaps none other has the aura of tradition and high elite major status (thanks for letting me use that @HighEliteMajor) ESPN loves us, network TV loves us. We inspire court stormings and we are THE game on most teams schedules every year.

But for our program needs Final Fours and NC's to maintain our status as HEM.

No Big 12 teams on the list other than us. Discuss.

Lists like that are pretty subjective and I imagine if we were UConnbuckets instead of KUbuckets we might say we've won three rings, so why aren't we tied with Duke for #1?

Azubike, sets visit • Sep 03, 2015 03:19 PM

@DanR Recruit him with a 10 foot poll then I'd guess!

Azubike, sets visit • Sep 03, 2015 01:55 PM

Does anyone know anything about this young man? Is he another Cheick in terms of academic question marks? Is he African? Is his transcript going to be called into question? I'd love to see him come to KU, but could do without the drama.

@Batecaster Projects the Future • Sep 02, 2015 02:14 PM

@jaybate-1.0

We need the season start is what you're really trying to say! :)

THIS IS COOL. ALLEN FIELD HOUSE 360 • Sep 02, 2015 02:13 PM

Cool, enjoyed seeing the other facilities as well. Great soccer and track complex.

As for naming rights, as a Sox fan/Cub basher it always cracks me up that the Cubs have a stadium named after a major company, but don't receive a penny for it. Wrigley did well on that one for sure and when he sold the team the Cubs should have played hardball with him and made him pay to keep his name on the stadium.

THE ONE MAGAZINE I BUY EACH YEAR. • Aug 30, 2015 11:28 PM

@wrwlumpy

I've bought, and kept, Street and Smith's, since the '80's. It is now published by Sporting News. It has diminished a bit in recent years, but it's the one I always get.
