Someone of unquestionable integrity who has been rumored to have been cheating on his wife since he set foot in Kansas and probably long before that. This attitude of putting Coach on a pedestal is unrealistic and tiring. Bill Self is a genius but he's playing the game that every coach in America is playing. Am I surprised? No. Am I disappointed? No. I'm just mad we got caught.
To me it’s just like even if Self was aware of the shoe company’s payments what exactly can he do about it? If it’s the best player he can get he has pressure every year to build a championship caliber team and will recruit that player regardless. I think Bill Self and the program are 100% in the clear but as for Silvio I’m not convinced. Probably for no fault of his own but it’s a dirty game these shoe company’s are playing.
Absolutely! This is gonna be must see TV and I have a feeling it's gonna get a little chippy.
@KirkIsMyHinrich Great post. I love that starting lineup.
Lebron is the greatest basketball player of all time. Too bad he wasn't a Jayhawk.
So does everyone think our chances of winning a national title increase with Vick or decrease?
That's life, man. Seems like an eternity that will be here before you know it.
I think if Vick accepts a bench role there's a spot for him
Also didn't Vick straight punch a girl in Memphis or something?
@dylans Just like Anrio Adams ;)
I also know some of our more intelligent posters sometimes like to do mock conversations between Coach and Player about certain situations. Would love to see a hypothetical conversation about how this one might go down.
Ooooh a meeting was scheduled? That's some juicy info. Any sources you can post?
I don't recall us being in this situation so late in the game before. It was a foregone conclusion that Vick was gone and we had an excellent change at Langford. Now neither are the case. Despite there being some rumors of character issues Vick was no doubt an intregal part of our FF birth and was a huge part in beating Duke. History shows that the more returnees from a deep tournament run increase your chances greatly returning the next year. Vick coming back would once again put him in the national limelight due to how many games we have nationally broadcasted and would without a doubt be one of our best shooters and has a chance to move into a veteran/leadership roll for our young back court. I think a key concern is whether his return stunts the growth of our new recruits throughout the year? All those things aside I have a feeling that if coach wants him back his ass is gonna be on the roster next season and that solidifies our position as the most dynamic and deep roster in college ball next year. What a time to be alive.
If they believe he would get drafted I'm very surprised he came back. I guess he could get in better shape but he's also a year older. Interesting.
This is interesting. If he returns we are a top 3 team no doubt. If he leaves what's our ceiling?
I understand that a lot has come out clarifying his comments and how certain things were taken out of context and other statements were overblown. I just still can't believe he said anything about the situation whatsoever about there being a school change under any circumstance.
Don't worry. Soon players who are ready will go to the Gleague and players who have to develop before declaring will flock to the few programs who have a history of doing so. All of this one and done none sense will be over and KU will field teams full of upperclassmen. HURRAY.
NBA jam was the shit. The Dogs for sure.
Malik and Legerald walk Mitch is redshirted Dok returns and we land Romeo is looking like the scenario
I think Malik declares, Vick stays and Cunliffe either redshirts or transfers and we do sign Romeo. I think Matt makes a good point that if he was leaning towards Indiana or Vandy he would have committed by now. I also believe he’s waiting to see who leaves KU. I personally would rather have either Vick or Newman stay than Romeo.
So happy his mom can see him play. I'm calling it right now Doke drops 30 on Nova.
Christian Laettner literally stomped on a player and wasn't ejected. This shit is why the good ol US of A was thrilled when our boys took down their boys.
Devon Dotson and Marcus Garret are a top tier duel pg option and Charlie and KJ are two vets that are great back ups. I think the only question is whether Legerald leaves. If he does I suspect Romeo Langford will commit and if not then we have our senior leader talking mad shit on the court. Wouldn't mind having LG back for another year.
@DCHawker Some would say that's a pretty decent record haha
I hope every media outlet picks against KU. Self made a comment in the post game that we had the more TALENTED team. The comment had Devonte laughing. I think coach said that because analysts like Kenny Smith made it a point in their predictions that Duke was the more talented team and I think this team thrives on slights like that. Hell, coach called them soft and members of our fan base counted them out and all they did after that was prove literally everyone wrong.
Coach is always ripping on Gurley 😂. I wonder if Malik will work his way into the first round? Certainly has shown a knack for scoring so far I wonder what more he must do.
Well I kind of look at it like every elite eight game before it. If we make our threes, we win. If we don’t, we won’t.
Anyone remember in Bananas when Woody Allen is being taught how to suck out the poison from snake bites. Hilarious.
@HighEliteMajor Ive also felt all season that this team was the one to finally break through. Even though i somewhat feel this every season, This is different. Theres a team of destiny in every tourmament. Why not us? RCJH
@kjayhawks I literally just said it reminded me of it. We were the number one overall and lost very early in the tournament and it was a very painful loss. Thank you for taking the time to explain the magnitude of this loss though. Even though all of social media has been talking about it for the last 2 hours your explanation really was the best. Great job.
Not the same but reminds me of the 2010 loss. Must be very heartbreaking for that fan base as that loss was for ours. Basketball is evolving and the talent gap is closing. Seems like seeds mean less and less every year.
@HighEliteMajor of course I want Doke back, but it is a very interesting to see how well we played considering. I think Dokes injury, I'm sure we can all agree, excellerated Silvios dvelopememt. Would we be a better team without his injury? I think the clear answer is no.. We improved while he was out and will be better when he comes back. Maybe that's the theorie in a nutshell. The possessions usually tossed in the post are all the sudden divided amongst the rest of the team and thus the reps improve the player making for a better finished product. Individually improving every player for make the team better overall. I love basketball.
@Gunman that's a nock that doesn't have any concrete proof. The schools he cheated at were lower teir and he needed an edge for recruiting over much higher quality programs. At Kentucky he doesn't have that problem and has a track record of successful pros to prove his system works and is effective year in and year out.
@BShark the move to stick with Mitch is a classic Self move that may never change, despite his recent change to coaching styles recently. Going with the more experienced player over the superior new comer. I, for one, think starting Silvio the first game of the tourney is so ballsy and would love to see it happen.
@HighEliteMajor and there it is. The inevitable correlation with the Patrick Ewing Theory. When you take a dominant big man out for whatever reason and your team plays better do you mix up the rotation on arrival back or keep it the same rotation that brought you success before. Interesting question. The numbers are undeniable that that Silvio may already be our best rebounder, but Doke is our best offensive weapon when the 3s we jack aren't falling. Someone smarter than I should deep dive this conundrum and give us a opinion.
@Gunman got a good reason why? I'm sure their fans have enjoyed the final 4s. The last time we played in a final 4 we lost to arguably the best college team of all time... A team recruited and coached by the mystery man we are speaking of.
Our boys aren't going to come into the tournament big dicks swingin just because of how well we've played recently. Even as 1 seed we are underdogs and will play every game proving we really do belong among the elite. That talk by Dtae during his senior speech about the hate they received early in the season by the doubters is still fresh on their minds, despite the conference titles and accolades. They aren't done heat, they have a lot to prove still. They WILL beat this Penn team by double digits. Do not take the emotional toll of 2 consecutive Elite 8 losses lightly. Only embrace the desire to make it back by an experienced team that's truly seen it all. RCJH.
However, if KU does open up whose to say that a certain coach from the SEC wouldn't take his place? He's coached here, has insinuated KU is the only other place he would love to coach, met his wife here and it certainly wouldn't be a drop off in brand and recognition. Just sayin 😉
If it was in any way possible which it's not I'd wanna get Brad Stevens 😍. Anyways, a lot of people compare Sean Miller to a young Bill Self but it's really Tony Bennet. Give Tony Bennet our brand and resources and its on.
Well for starters I don’t think there’s a scenario where Sam Cunliffe returns. He’s not going to receive ANY playing time next year. As for Vick it’s kind of like Greene he’s too far into his career to transfer. He’s going to be a senior next year and will get playing time. As for Malik I think his goal is to be a pro obviously and that’s why he came to ku, to salvage his career, showcase his talents and turn pro. Someone will give Malik a chance. I do think there is a scenario where he goes off in the tourney and gets drafted 1st round. Time will tell.
Team of destiny status achieved
Man it's good to be a Kansas fan. B12 conference and tourney champs this year. Will have a better team next year.
Wow. What a win. I can't picture a scenario better for our squad going into the tournament. Dtae has ice in his veins. Malik can get a bucket anytime and anywhere. Silvio has officially solved the only Achilles heel this team had. Doke is going to come back rested and fired up. A week ago I was so worried about being put into a physically opposing teams bracket, now I think we can take on anyone. RCJH.
Holy shit we are 14-5 against top50 squads
@Fightsongwriter haha dominant was def a stretch i was just way too hyphy writing that. His size and athleticism is undeniable tho. He made the post player who killed us in Stillwater small in stature in comparison. The kid is huge.
Once this Kansas team was flawed, a red bullseye painted right on its back. This was the year that we would be taken out. We weathered the Preston situation with incredible leadership by Dtae and we’re poised enough to battle until Silvio joined the team. It’s so late in the season they said. He would never play any minutes and would never learn the system in time they said. Now look at us. Big 12 champs. Scores of awards and Silvio proved today he can be a reliable, dare I say somewhat dominant, low post threat. LETS GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
I’m still just so Impressed with how well Silvio played. That game by him yesterday was so important when it comes to us winning a championship.
I wanted that W today more than any other this year. So glad we got it the way we did, with hard nosed defense.
Very inspirational and all true of course. RCJH.
I truly believe Trae regrets not picking Kansas. Although they were on better respective teams Michael Beasily and to a bigger extent Kevin Durant tried to destroy us at the Fieldhouse. I think he dreaded that game and the atmosphere overwhelmed him. Not only did his chance at CPOY end that night but maybe NPOY as well. But let's face it he made the same mistake everyone else made. They bet against Kansas and LOST.
