I LOVE this team. Unbelievable what all had to happen for this group of guys to all end up on the same team.

Breaks my heart

Mar 30, 2018 07:18 PM #3

let's take up a collection and move mom here

Mar 30, 2018 09:35 PM #4

@nuleafjhawk there's so much I would like to say, but I can't. But yes, I don't wish that life on anyone.

Mar 30, 2018 09:57 PM #5

@Kcmatt7 I really appreciate you linking that story. I hope Doke comes back next year, as playing along side Lawson could help him to really flourish.

Mar 30, 2018 09:59 PM #6

Very nice story, sometimes we forget how blessed we are.

Mar 30, 2018 10:21 PM #7

@KUSTEVE I do too. I do now worry that he will see his family and make what could be a short-sighted decision. I can't imagine what he is going through or what I would do in his shoes. His ceiling is far from reached, therefore I think he could earn a LOT more money if stays all 4 years and develops.

Mar 30, 2018 10:22 PM #8

@Kcmatt7 sounds like his mom values an education too. Wonder what the rest of his siblings do?

Mar 30, 2018 10:23 PM #9

@Crimsonorblue22 And his Dad being a cop I think shows that they really do care about him just being a good person more than anything.

I hope his mom gets to make a pit stop in Lawrence before she goes home!

Mar 30, 2018 10:25 PM #10

@Kcmatt7 if he comes back, he will be close to graduating. Can always finish, like cole.

Mar 30, 2018 10:27 PM #11

@Crimsonorblue22 I hope he does 1 more year. I think he will. NBA not sniffing him yet. Even with him putting up an unreal shooting percentage.

Mar 30, 2018 10:29 PM #12

@Kcmatt7 he's so young too!

Mar 31, 2018 12:19 AM #13

@Kcmatt7

I'm with you.... I LOVE this team, too!

Mar 31, 2018 02:38 AM #14

So happy his mom can see him play. I'm calling it right now Doke drops 30 on Nova.

Mar 31, 2018 02:46 AM #15

I’m dying to hear about his mom getting here!

Mar 31, 2018 11:12 AM #16

@Kcmatt7 Thank you for posting.

Just a quick soap box...we might not be able to collect $ to get mom to the US, but anyone can change a life for about $40 a month by sponsoring a child in a third world country. We have had kids in Haiti, Africa, the Philippines, and Mexico. Skip eating out once a month and literallty change a life by providing food, clothes, education, and medical. It actually will help the whole family. Depending on the relief org, there could be spiritual instuction as well.

We love Compassion International but there are other good orgs. You can pick boy or girl and the country. The letters and pics we exchange are priceless.

Ok, off the box. Cant wait to see Dokes mom. Hope she is not too overwhelmed. His dad would be so proud of him.

I am trying to envision the impact of this scenario. Doke's birth mother, who has never watched him play a game of basketball, travels 24 hours from Nigeria to be plopped down among 70,000 very excited fans in San Antonio to watch her seven foot baby start and jump center for this historic sports program called Jayhawk Basketball. Can she and Doke harness and channel emotions for 3 mad hours? Parents of Svi and DeSousa also travel from afar to this Texas extravaganza. WOW!

Mar 31, 2018 12:38 PM #18

@REHawk lol it’s going to be good for tv. Call me crazy, but the KU stories are far more interesting than any Nova story so far. I think WE might get any bias this game because we are good for tv right now!

Mar 31, 2018 12:39 PM #19

@Fightsongwriter 2 weeks ago had orphan kids from Uganda do a concert at church then we kept 7 of them overnight. So polite and gracious. You are correct just a little from us makes a great difference for those less fortunate. We are so blessed that we take it for granted. Equally blessed and spoiled as Jayhawk fans. Go Hawks!

Mar 31, 2018 12:45 PM #20

@Kcmatt7 and the nun is getting old

Mar 31, 2018 12:54 PM #21

@Crimsonorblue22 Like 90 something... lol (I know what you meant)

Mar 31, 2018 02:14 PM #22

@Kcmatt7 Thanks for posting. I had no idea it had been that tough for him as a kid. I don't think most of us realize how good we have it compared to many in the world.

Speaking of great stories, the link below is a tough read for any parent but its again a reflection of how amazing the extended Jayhawk family is.

I hope he goes to combine without an agent and get feedback from NBA scouts on areas requiring improvement, come back and work his tail off in those areas. This will be best for both Dok and KU.

KC Star reports that Dok's mom made it! Arrived around 11:30 p.m. last evening. Dok greeted her at the airport.

"Azubuike's school-record field-goal percentage of .772 is the second-best mark in Division I history."

I didn't realize. Wow.
