Excellent! Welcome back, Flory!

But is it ok to feel a little weird about this? odd all around.

ahh. interesting. See, since most of us aren't privy to the behind the scenes stuff, it's hard to choose sides!

It was, unfortunately, the objectively correct move from his people. The whole thing does suck. Flory wouldn't be back if HE didn't want to be though.

Full disclosure: From sources within the AD KU started at $800,000 and the final deal was $1,600,000.

Apr 06, 2025 06:24 PM #8

@BShark gross. Thanks for the numbers.

I guess I wont be cancelling DSPN

Super stoked to have Flory back, and I am glad the kid and his people stuck up for him.

Apr 06, 2025 06:26 PM #9

I will be prepared to buy my youngest a pair of Adidas ā€œFlory’sā€ in a few years in thanks.

Did he get a raise from last year?

I have a proposal for the NIL/NCAA/SEC or whoever rules college hoops these days. They could garner tons of excitement if they did some sort of public facing NIL battle for players. Bring it out in the open for all to see. Can you imagine the publicity they'd get? Fun!

Maybe a public Website/database of portal players with their asking price listed, and allow teams to match, raise, low ball, etc., all posted on the website. crazy.

Apr 06, 2025 06:30 PM #11

@rockchalkjayhawk Basically everyone got a raise from last year the numbers are insane right now.

Apr 06, 2025 06:34 PM #12

@rockchalkjayhawk how about a picture of the most clever fan’s sign, the heart of the campus, the yelp reviews of restaurants of various nationalities near campus, the cheerleading squad (miss you lumpy), the distance to the nearest beach, some crime stats in the area, etc to present some of the intangibles that might offset low offers. And maybe some indication of the dark money promises that the shoecos might be sweetening the pot with.

Ahh, the shoe companies. My premise was flawed about who runs college hoops!

Money is not an issue. Back-up big will be cheap. They have good money to go get another starter and some of the better offers out there on a couple other bench piece guards.

Bill last week went on a fundraising trip with Goff, think I mentioned it before.

Apr 06, 2025 09:03 PM #19

He’s a specimen, a great athlete, but can he develop scoring touch around the basket is my only concern

Apr 06, 2025 11:26 PM #20

Any word on Peterson's NIL amount?

Apr 06, 2025 11:39 PM #21

@Bosthawk he did say he's working on his jumpers. Read it somewhere.

Care

Apr 07, 2025 12:02 AM #23

@nuleafjhawk did you just flip the care switch on?

Apr 07, 2025 12:16 AM #24

@approxinfinity nah. That was my sarcastic care

Apr 07, 2025 01:37 PM #25

"I'm really excited to be back for another year to continue to grow and develop and bring a national championship to Kansas," Bidunga told ESPN with a wink and a bag of cash.

Apr 07, 2025 01:45 PM #26

@dylans dont understand the Flory hate. If your employer tried to pay you half what you were worth what would you do?

Apr 07, 2025 01:48 PM #27

@approxinfinity Go to another company. I started my own. What’s the safety net of an employer feel like? Suffocation?

I don’t hate that he got more money. I hate how he went about it. It he wanted to leave don’t come back for money, that’s dumb. KU won’t get the best version of him. Go away and flourish or fail.

I understand he’s your man crush, but he isn’t loyal. I won’t go to an event he’s sponsoring, I won’t believe a speech he gives about how great KU is (I’ll just wonder how much they paid him to say that).

As of today there is not a player on the roster worth rooting for. Maybe one will emerge - Jamari perhaps will be a four year player. The rest are rentals, Flory equates to a high dollar hooker.

Apr 07, 2025 02:07 PM #28

@dylans geez man. Ok. I hope the off season softens your stance. I will root for a team that goes out and competes. There were plenty of teams that competed at a high level with a bunch of transfers this year, we just werent one of them.

Apr 07, 2025 02:12 PM #29

@approxinfinity I'd do cartwheels! Jump for Joy! Praise God! Only half of what I'm worth would be a huge windfall

Apr 07, 2025 02:25 PM #30

@approxinfinity If the season started today I would buy tickets just to boo Flory! He’s just an easy target. Much easier to be pretend mad at a dumbass kid making himself look like a jackass than to deal with real life emotions. I’d rather be fake mad than sad all the time…

Apr 07, 2025 02:53 PM #31

@nuleafjhawk lol that made my day :)

Apr 07, 2025 02:59 PM #32

@approxinfinity I’m not really mad at Flory as much as I’m infuriated with his handler.

Apr 07, 2025 03:38 PM #33

I think it is a win-win for everyone, including us fans. I see it's a whole other territory with the NIL but good for Flory for making Coach commit to him full on. Now we get to sit back and watch a guy blossom and contribute to all the many memories we have from our players in years past. RCJH

Apr 07, 2025 03:53 PM #34

@RockChalkinTexas love it, agreed.

Apr 07, 2025 03:57 PM #35

Just happy I'm not a Baylor fan. Robert Wright, wow. Now that's not a good look based on the info out there. Wright had said he was returning, apparently signed NIL paperwork for a new deal, got some of it and then is hitting the portal. Baylor apparently turned down some other prospects at his position due to him and now chaos. Baylor by my count does not have a scholarship player back from this years roster.

Apr 07, 2025 03:59 PM #36

Let's go get Robert Wright

Apr 07, 2025 04:01 PM #37

@Jhawk69

Great Talent and was my favorite freshman from this year but I doubt we can afford him and our other needs. If what's out there is true about the events leading to his transfer, yikes. Nope

Apr 07, 2025 04:07 PM #38

@BeddieKU23 What has been said about the events leading to his transfer?

Apr 07, 2025 04:09 PM #39

In the case of Flory's decision, I doubt any of us know the details.

But for the sake of giving him the benefit of the doubt, let's consider a possible scenario (completely hypothetical):

$800,000 might be double what he got last year. So that seemed like a good place to start from KU's perspective. He heard he could get a lot more. Maybe $2 million, so he enters the portal. Maybe he even gets into conversations that look like $2 million is possible. KU doubles its offer.

He has a bird in the hand of $1.6m with a coach and program he knows or possible $2m with unknowns. He leaves $400k on the table and sticks with KU.

We can be critical of shrewd business practices (which are unfortunately way too common), but when was the last time you left $400k on the table to stick with KU? (possibly 20% salary raise?) That smells like team spirit to me.

Apr 07, 2025 04:10 PM #40

@Jhawk69

Told Baylor team he was returning and reupped NIL deal. Baylor didn't recruit other PG's. Now in portal and hearing a certain team lured him in.

Apr 07, 2025 04:12 PM #41

@BeddieKU23 Diggy?

Apr 07, 2025 04:21 PM #42

@bskeet I am sure that Flory's values are not the exact same as mine. I also know that Flory didn't grow up in Lawrence and hasn't been watching KU basketball for as long as he can remember, like I have. So I don't really expect Flory to adopt the same "ride of die with Kansas" attitude during the offseason that I would adopt if I were a collegiate basketball player of his caliber. As long as, while he is here, he gives it his all in games and in practice, that is enough for me. So while I would not have done what Flory did, I don't think he is a bad person for exploring his options and trying to get paid more.

Apr 07, 2025 04:24 PM #43

@Jhawk69 yep! I'll wait until he half-asses the first half of the season to throw him under the bus ;)

Apr 07, 2025 04:30 PM #44

@approxinfinity Man, I sure hope that doesn't happen. I want him to explode to the list of wooden award watch.. along with DP

Apr 07, 2025 05:43 PM #45

@bskeet me too me too :)

@Crimsonorblue22 said in FLORY FLORY FLORY FLORY FLORY:

Think the main difference here is Wright was a starter and expected to be the face of the team next year while Coit was expected to be a role player next season if he stayed. I know Coit said to the media he planned to return but we don't know that he renegotiated a deal or anything to stay. Wright apparently was committed to staying, signed a new NIL deal, received payments on his new deal and then up and left.

Apr 07, 2025 06:46 PM #47

@BeddieKU23 was kidding! Thought you'd get it. He's available.
