@jayballer54 GOOGLE is a great tool, tells you everything you want to know.

I use Sling tv so if it's not on espn or espn2 I use the espn app with my sling account. But Crimsonorblue22 said it wouldn't work where you are. So my suggestion is change providers or move to missouri.

@Ralph moving to MO won't help. I'm in NW Arkansas and I'm still blacked out.

Oct 29, 2016 03:29 PM #17

Can't wait for things to really get going. I'm tired of puff pieces filling the rags and recruiting speculation. Let's get some action going and get to breaking down X's & O's, strategy, players S&W's, and real results.

Where are you @HighEliteMajor?

Oct 29, 2016 03:37 PM #18

@Bwag using the espn app works for me in Mo, that's how I watched late night

Oct 29, 2016 04:05 PM #19

@Ralph

The greater KC Metro area and all of Western Missouri is blocked. If you are in Eastern Missouri might be able to get it. Also, your provider has to offer ESPN3 and it has to be in your cable package since it requires you to sign in.

!Blackout.JPG โ†—

Oct 29, 2016 04:21 PM #20

@JayHawkFanToo I'm in Lees Summit, Mo. I use Sling tv, it shows Texas vs. Kansas at 6:30 PM. Guess I'll find out then.

Oct 29, 2016 04:41 PM #21

@Ralph

TTBONK, Sling TV is not free, so you are paying for something that Kansans should be getting at no cost. Why black out KU games, and it is not men's basketball only but every program that is doing well, in the State of Kansas only? This agreement sucks and if this is the best Zenger can do, then he he should not have that position; he should go back to his Alma Mater KSU and black out Liberace.

Oct 29, 2016 05:00 PM #22

@JayHawkFanToo I agree but if we want to pay that's ok!

Oct 29, 2016 05:17 PM #24

@Crimsonorblue22

I have not problem with that. I do pay for the sports tier on my cable package and it includes ESPN3...which blacks out KU games in Kansas; go figure. In my subdivision we have Consolidated, AT&T, Google, Comcast and TWC which just laid cable but will not be connecting for a couple of months, so the only option to get the "KU sport channel" is Comcast; I was told they made it so difficult and prohibitively expensive that none of the other cable providers carry it. I used to have Comcast until about 6 years ago and it was without a question, the worst service/utility of any kind I ever had. Even If I have to miss the entire season, I rather go sit at a sports bar to watch the games than get Comcast. I started with Everest which was fantastic and then it was bought out and became SureWest which was not nearly as good but acceptable and now it is Consolidated Communications which is barely acceptable but still head and shoulder better than Comcast.

My point is that KU fans living in Kansas should not have to jump thorough hoops to watch KU sports.

Oct 29, 2016 05:33 PM #25

@JayHawkFanToo 1st I am a Kansan I'm just staying with my daughter and her family while I recover, needed someone to change my diaper and wash me. Like many Jayhawks she lives where her job is.

I had to look up TTBONK I'm not a big Internet guy. Your right I pay $20 a month no fees no contracts instead of $130 a month for 300 channels that I didn't watch and a 2 year contract. As far as the blackout goes I blame Texas and the failed Longhorn network, it should be the big 12 network.

Oct 29, 2016 05:50 PM #26

@Ralph

The contracts between TWC Sport KC Chanel and KU was negotiated by Zenger. They get exclusive rights to several KU basketball, football and several other sports games and ESPN 3 blacks out all these games in the State of Kansas and areas like the greater KC Metro area. Although we are mostly familiar with the men's basketball games that get blacked out, several football, women's basketball, volleyball, soccer and track and field events get blacked out as well. How much money do you think KU gets in return? Nothing, Zero, zippo, zilch...KU gets paid by in-kind programming and features about sports at KU. What do you think the audience for a feature on the women's rowing team is? Not counting the parents of the athletes probably in the dozens? maybe hundreds? The TV audience for one blacked out men's basketball is likely several time larger than the combined audience of all the features run in an entire year about all the minor sports combined.

A large number of die hard KU fans in the Kansas City Metro area have been left with no options and most every body I know around here hates Zenger...even more than I do. LOL.

Oct 29, 2016 06:09 PM #27

If you can take care of the pop ups and ads, first row sports.com is an option - they have games for all sports across the world. I don't use it anymore because I have the Cox sports tier, but it worked for me in the past.

@Ralph My sling TV shows it too, hopefully we can watch it. The thing I most hate about the TV deal is it favors big city, Kansas is full of smaller towns like the one I live in. Most think KU fans are only from the big cities but I'm not and know several others aswell, hell I know farmers that are big KU fans.

Oct 29, 2016 07:11 PM #30

@kjayhawks I looked ahead and it shows Washburn and Emporia State also. We'll find out in a couple of hours.

Oct 29, 2016 09:16 PM #31

@JayHawkFanToo well you were correct the volleyball game is blacked out on espn3. But I'm watching it on the watch espn app.

Oct 30, 2016 12:00 AM #36

@Ralph I'm wondering if the app is so new that the providers are actually allowing some things to be shown now that will eventually get filtered out by sweetheart deals between individual providers & partnering sources, Does that even make sense? I'm sure as hell trying it next & will keep you guys posted.

Oct 30, 2016 12:13 AM #37

Oct 30, 2016 12:55 AM #43

After dropping cable and going to sling I had to learn different ways to get what I want. In April I will drop the espn package and get the fox package to watch the Royals.

Oct 30, 2016 01:16 AM #44

@Ralph glad it works! Don't understand but glad you can get it

Oct 30, 2016 03:17 AM #45

@HawkChamp I also use stream2watch.eu. Once I fight through the pop ups it works well

Oct 30, 2016 03:19 AM #46

I'm watching Ben Mac, Cole, b rush and Wiggs.

Oct 30, 2016 03:44 AM #47

ESPN 3 was blacked out for me aswell. The thing that I don't get is if use the watch ESPN app on my phone or tablet connected to my homes WIFI its blacked out as well but if I don't and use my mobile data it is not blacked out but I only can watch for minutes at a time due to data usage (watched a game LY and was about 2.5gs for it). It makes no sense to me.

Oct 30, 2016 03:52 AM #48

@kjayhawks I use a roku to stream it with home WiFi, I would rather watch it on a tv than a tablet

Oct 30, 2016 03:55 AM #49

@Ralph Forgive me for I am not super tech savvy but what is roku

Oct 30, 2016 03:58 AM #50

@kjayhawks a streaming device. how do you watch sling

Oct 30, 2016 01:39 PM #51

@kjayhawks The ESPN app looks for the service provider. In your home wifi (I presume) it has to go through your television or cable provider or satellite internet if you have it. Your home provider has a contract with ESPN that results in the blackout because the provider blocks it in certain areas. Your phone network provider apparently doesn't.

In my case, I get everything because we are far away from blackout areas, but I still sign in to TW on the ESPN app.

Is the game available on the app after it is over, or is the blackout permanent?

Oct 30, 2016 01:42 PM #52

@kjayhawks Roku is the future. For as little as 30 bucks, you have a device that streams tv onto your tv through the internet. There are gazillions of channels, some cost, some are free, but you have tons and tons of choices to watch.

Oct 30, 2016 02:01 PM #53

@kjayhawks Russell Robinson set the standard for team-oriented PG/combo guard in the Bill Self era. Devonte Graham may finally, actually be better. Thank you for posting a pix of #3 RR!

Oct 30, 2016 02:19 PM #54

@mayjay I'm in the KC metro espn3 was blocked but the espn app worked for me, both streamed with the roku to my tv. Maybe I'm far enough east the app doesn't show KC.

Oct 30, 2016 03:12 PM #55

@mayjay The game is available within 30 minutes of the conclusion of the live broadcast.

@kjayhawks

Actually it makes sense. When you connect to wi-fi it goes through your internet provider which block the signal. if you stay with your cell provider, the signal comes through your cell and not through your internet provider. I should try with T-Mobile since I have unlimited internet and I have a huge chunk of the high speed type already stashed away.

Oct 31, 2016 09:36 PM #64

You can download an app on your internet browser and stream it through your computer. I use Hola! and it says I'm in the UK and I can watch the game that way. I'll test it on my phone tomorrow and see if it'll work through my Chromecast

Oct 31, 2016 09:37 PM #65

@Kcmatt7

If you have the right TV set, you can mirror your phone screen on your TV set..

Oct 31, 2016 09:42 PM #66

So I just downloaded Hola! on my phone.

What it does is put a new VPN number on your phone so it looks like you are in another country. I believe I will be able to stream the game from my phone on my own home wifi and Chromecast it.

More to come tomorrow.

Oct 31, 2016 09:42 PM #67

@JayHawkFanToo Yea I can't mirror without connecting to WiFi unfortunately

Oct 31, 2016 09:52 PM #68

@Kcmatt7

In that case you are not mirroring but most likely you are streaming. Many of the newer cell phones and TV sets have the option of duplicating the phone screen on your TV without any other equipment. I am waiting for Black Friday to get one with that specific feature.

Nov 01, 2016 12:02 AM #69

@JayHawkFanToo have you tried the watch espn app

Nov 01, 2016 02:07 AM #70

I downloaded an IPad app called Betternet which apparently moves your IP address to a different part of the country. To test it I tried to get the KU vs texas volleyball game on watch espn and got it. My son tried to get the VB match on his phone watch espn app and it was blacked out. I'm not guaranteeing anything but there's hope. It sux that the AD hosed us by selling out to TW. This is going to be a special year!

Nov 01, 2016 02:23 AM #71

Can anyone explain to me if games are sold out how would it hurt to put them on ESPN 3?

Nov 01, 2016 03:23 AM #72

@Crimsonorblue22 No. Because it is stupid.

Nov 01, 2016 09:55 AM #73

@Crimsonorblue22

KU basketball games have been sold out as far back as I remember. There is no rational explanation why they should be blacked out...other than the KSU alumnus who happens to be the AD trying to limit viewership.

IP address spoofing โ†—

I believe this will allow you to go around any blackouts for online viewing.

Nov 01, 2016 04:36 PM #82

@drgnslayr

Very true, I meant the recruiting hoopla that the last 7 months have been. So glad we have game action to look at. See how improved the vets are, see how the youngn's looks

More then anything I would like to see Jackson show off why he was the top recruit, a different type of top recruit. One that Self can mold and unleash

Nov 01, 2016 05:54 PM #83

@BeddieKU23

I want to see some sparkle out of Josh tonight. But I hope he has a different shine than Wigs did. Wigs situation was different, surrounded by freshmen. I am hoping to see Josh (eventually) mixed in well on offense and to be as dangerous feeding assists as scoring.

What I'm really looking for tonight is defense. I want to see dominance!

Nov 01, 2016 05:57 PM #84

@drgnslayr

Yes a dominant defence against an overmatched team would be nice. Statistically we ended up pretty good on defense last year but there really was not a sense that it was a dominant defensive bunch. Plenty of games we wondered where the D went.

Individually Jackson on paper, seemed like the perfect Top recruit for Self. Values more then the flash of putting the ball in the hoop, fierce competitor, plays defense, values sharing the ball. From everything Self has said already about Josh "he unpacked his bags" was a good one used to describe the kids mentality.

Nov 01, 2016 06:05 PM #85

@BeddieKU23

I think we are all in for a surprise on how well Josh's overall game is. And his long ball is decent. Sure, he's not Brannen Greene (yet). But I think his long ball is better than people give him credit for.

Yes... there were times last year when our defense went south.

Just a few things that are on my Christmas Wish List to Santa this year (concerning defense):

  1. Consistency - I'd like to see more consistency. Translating that... I want to see all our guys stay focused for 40 minutes and throughout every possession.

  2. Low Post Defense - I'd like to see us control the paint this year. We gave up quite a bit to dominant post players last year.

  3. Overdrive - I'd like to see our defense develop an "overdrive." I'd like to see them step up when we need defense to really dominate, and dominate. This is the way to eliminate most (if not all) losses from occurring.

  4. Steals & Run Outs - We have GOT TO steal the ball more and those steals need to end in run outs!

Otherwise, the other areas I expect them to be good like they were last year. I could make a long list of what they need on defense, but most of those things they did a pretty good job on last year!

Nov 01, 2016 06:08 PM #86

When they are on the court, I can't tell the difference between Mitch Lightfoot and Clay Young.

!collage.jpg โ†—

Nov 01, 2016 06:32 PM #87

@wrwlumpy

I don't believe they will be on the court together much. LOL. BTW, Clay on the left and Mitch on the right.

Nov 01, 2016 06:35 PM #88

So.... someone in here must have the inside track on Mitch. Anyone?

I'm catching little bits from sparrows outside my window. I'm starting to believe he will earn some PT minutes this year... more than just mop up minutes.

Any truth to that?

Nov 01, 2016 06:40 PM #89

@drgnslayr

Coach Self was very impressed with him but he is still learning the system. If Bragg gets in foul trouble and Coach does not want to go small, I can see Mitch and Svi taking turns at the 4 since Washburn does not really have anyone over 6'-7".

Nov 01, 2016 06:44 PM #90

@JayHawkFanToo

Have you seen him practice or play? Does he have good handles? Midrange shooter?

Nov 01, 2016 06:50 PM #91

@drgnslayr said:

All Great points.

Consistency is what we are used to, Consistency on the road would be a good starting spot. Our D sometimes stays in Lawrence in certain arena's. Sometimes we don't truly understand how much better KU plays at home on both ends of the floor.

Low Post D should be better in the Big-12 as we'll play some teams that lost everything in the post. When its not a stretch to say Landon Lucas is a top 5 big in the Big-12 this year you know the league is in transition. Absolutely no knock to Lucas, just pointing out the talent in the post is missing this year. It's a guard heavy league.

Which leads me to your points 3 & 4. Not sure we see that much improvement from #4 due to the rules of the game that keep changing (more emphasis on perimeter freedom). With so many good guards in the league we might find it hard to force turnovers consistently.

3 We'll have to see how this team meshes together and finds its identity.

Nov 01, 2016 06:57 PM #92

@drgnslayr good article on him on kusports

Nov 01, 2016 07:19 PM #93

@wrwlumpy Mitch is taller and has bigger ears, different number. Clay wont play 98% of the time.

Nov 01, 2016 07:49 PM #94

@drgnslayr

He is extremely athletic and has range all the way to the 3 line. He likes to bang inside and you can say he might end up being a more athletic version of Perry Ellis, although at this time he is just beginning to learn the system and does not have quite the basketball IQ or the moves Perry does but he is still pretty green and has a lot to learn. I have him as my breakout player so obviously I am pretty impressed with him.
