Play Hard Chart
Feb 07, 2017 02:16 PM #1

What is our record according to the play hard chart? Are we a tournament team? KSU is 23-1 and a 1 seed according to the play hard chart.

Feb 07, 2017 02:26 PM #2

@BShark Does the "play hard" chart mean that they can't hit open shots, bounce off the other players like a pinball, slap the living crap out of players that are down on the court and cry over EVERY call made? Even the ones that benefit them?

Plus, they have the advantage of having an extra blocker (Weber) out on the court the whole time.

This might be the most annoying thing Weber does...MIGHT. I really want him to get t'd up for it already.

Feb 07, 2017 04:58 PM #4

@BShark

They are first in line for the NIT NIT...Not Invited to the NIT... :smiley:

Feb 07, 2017 05:31 PM #5

@BShark What drives me most about it is I think he does it with the intent to distract the opposing players. He gets down and slides around in athletic position. Makes it look like another man is out there sometimes.

Feb 07, 2017 05:51 PM #6

Weber drives me nuts, 3 or 4 times a game he almost gets ran into. How he doesn't get multiple Ts is beyond me. I thought KSU played hard no question but so did we baring the first 8 minutes. Mason had a bad ass hustle play but just got to fast to finish it off.

Feb 07, 2017 05:59 PM #7

@kjayhawks He spends more time on the court than any of his players. must be getting paid for court time.

Feb 07, 2017 06:00 PM #8

wasn't it last year where Weber was playing defense on one of our players on the court?

I swear there's a photo of that somewhere

Feb 07, 2017 06:01 PM #9

@BeddieKU23 I would like to see one of our players blind side his sorry ass

Feb 07, 2017 06:03 PM #10

In Weber's defense, he's in a better perimeter defensive stance than our guys have shown of late.

Feb 07, 2017 11:12 PM #19

Did anyone caught when Fran said Mason was having a sub-par game? At the time he had 15 points with 8-9 minutes left in the game and on track to get his Conference leading ppg average.

Feb 07, 2017 11:14 PM #20

Fran Fraschilla...college basketball's version of baseball's Joe Buck...:smiley:

Feb 07, 2017 11:15 PM #21

@JayHawkFanToo

He was 3-11 from the field at one point, maybe that was when he made that comment.

Regardless fran is the biggest piece of crap on espn

Feb 07, 2017 11:19 PM #22

@BeddieKU23

I believe Mason's last 5 point were from the FT line so he would likely have been much better than that at that point.. My point was that regardless of what he was shooting there is no way his game was sub-par at any time during the game.

I really used to like Fran but in the last few years he as turned into a real di#k.

Feb 08, 2017 06:31 PM #23

@BeddieKU23 I don't know...there's a LOT of crap on ESPN

Feb 08, 2017 06:32 PM #24

@Bwag

My money is on Fran being the biggest pile of it!

Feb 08, 2017 06:38 PM #25

@BeddieKU23 Could be...not in a position to debate except to say at one time Keith Obermann was once on ESPN. And, was recently reported that ESPN is dragging down Disney's financial results...that isn't the result of the biggest turd in the pile alone.

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2017-02-07/disney-sales-fall-as-espn-drags-down-cable-tv-profit ↗

Feb 08, 2017 06:45 PM #26

@Bwag

Very true, ESPN has been on a down trend for many years now. Some very questionable business decisions have finally trickled down to the bottom line.

Having said that, for my enjoyment and for others that feel the same way removing Fran from KU games would be the best move ESPN could make in years!

Feb 08, 2017 06:55 PM #27

@BeddieKU23

I agree. ESPN has been very poorly managed and questionable decisions, such as the Longhorn Network, have been costly. Add a lot of people being fed up with the attitude of many athletes, particularly in the NFL have drive viewership down quite a bit.

As far as Fran, I don't understand what happened to him. He used to be a pretty decent commentator but now he as become a very biased one, something that you cannot do when you are in that position. I cant' think of a single KU fan that likes him and since KU is the 500 pound gorilla in the Conference, a reasonable person would think it would have a say on who calls the games...bu then we are talking Zenger...never mind...

Feb 08, 2017 06:56 PM #28

@BeddieKU23 I've noticed on twitter KU fans telling franny what they think of him.🤡

Feb 08, 2017 06:59 PM #29

@Crimsonorblue22

I honestly don't blame them. I wish I didn't have that view of him but its so blatant to see every-time he calls one of our games. Fran needs a long "timeout" from KU games.

Feb 08, 2017 07:05 PM #30

@JayHawkFanToo

I used to really look forward to Fran calling our games. He is always knowledgeable about everything in the Big-12 but as you stated I don't know what changed. We've talked enough about maybe his son going to OU being the change or secretly being sick of KU's team/fans being on top of the mountain for so long that he's really playing up the underdog mentality.

I know he has great respect for Bill Self but I don't feel like he has any respect for his job on how he portrays his views on air. You can literally dissect Monday's game and how many times he's trying to coach Kansas St on a play to score/defend etc. His style of announcing has worn out its welcome.

Feb 08, 2017 07:11 PM #31

@BeddieKU23

Amen to that.

Feb 08, 2017 07:28 PM #32

@BeddieKU23 said:

All announcers play up the underdog stuff. You don't get high ratings for blowouts that were expected all along. UConn women dominate, but those shows are low rated anyway. How huge would it be if someone, say SC, were to have a real chance of breaking that streak? As Wilt says, nobody loves Goliath.

Commenting on how you beat KU? We all did the same thing after Baylor--"why abandon the inside game in the 2nd half?"--and KSU--"why have Stokes shoot when Wade has been killing us?" We aren't perfect, but Board Rats act as if Fran should be a KU fan. He ain't.

I have paid careful attention to the conference games this year where Fran is on. In this past KSU game, I counted six or seven straight compliments early on that he gave to KU or KU players. On the Board, people griped when he pointed out Frank started out poorly. The entire nation, and the comments on the Board, noticed it, but when Fran commented on it, he was accused of bias and got reamed. He has incessantly pushed Frank as a leading candidate for POY, but people here keep griping about his tweet last year.

I think y'all only look at those things that buttress your dislike of him. Confirmation bias.

Someone said that no KU fans like him. Sorry--wrong! Not everything he says, and sometimes he is an idiot. Sometimes each of us has said something stupid (I know, everyone thinks this is one of mine). Besides, please direct me to an announcer who has no flaws?

Feb 08, 2017 07:44 PM #33

I could always see right thru that subtle way of his. He just kept showing more favoritism to ISU and the final straw was that Self was such a good guy he would give up his HOF nomination.

Feb 08, 2017 08:41 PM #34

Man I'm telling you, there are some KU fans that just REALLY chap my ass. This crap getting really old. Now let me preface this so NO ONE in here has kittens or anything BUT I was just talking to my brother and what he told me, makes me want to take a bat to some peoples heads.

He said that on one of his KU boards he didn't say what one it was, that the KU fans was really giving Frank the crap because of him putting his finger to his lips to say like to the K- State fans quiet at the end of the game. They said that Frank was being did-respectual to the K-State students and fans. agging them on. - -Now like what I am going to say - hate what I'm going to say - -let me say, I don't care but to these kinds of actions let me say - - -

BULLSHIT. These kinds of fans are the let me grease you up, how far can we see if we can bury our nose up one anothers you know what. A - - kissing, fair weather fans. If your going to get on Frank for what you think is dis-respecting the K-Straight crows - you remember President Nixon's favorite high School, then you and I have serious issues .All I have to say is, after what they were chanting all through the game, I had friends that went and the crowd in one of their tidy little chants Hey Frank - go - -F - - - you. so, your telling me that's ok for them to agg Frank during the game, but in the end when it comes time for Frank to have his turn -- it's called Karma - -be very careful it doesn't come back and bite you in your ass, but when it's HIS turn, he is being dis-respectful - -hmmmmm? - - -whaaaaaa? - - SERIOUS? did he insult any family members?- -did he get personal about any family? was he foul mouthed? - -Did he make any kind of innapporiate sexual gesture? - -NOPE, he put his finger to his mouth for them to sssssssshhhhhhhh. - -THATS IT. - but yet we have KU fans from other boards riding his ass about being Disrespectful, give me a break - -Salty? hell yes a little Salty - -I love it- -a little attitude. - did he do back flips on your floor? - - -NOPE simply ssssssssssssssshhhhhhhhhhhh. - -For those fans I say HIT THE ROAD and step the hell back up off these KU kids - -they haven't don't squat but return the jest - - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

Feb 08, 2017 09:14 PM #35

@Blown It's bush league theatrics- daddy ball 🏀 type 💩. He & any other coach that do these things should be marked for T's until they ✋ stop.

Feb 08, 2017 10:20 PM #36

@jayballer54 I really like when Frank did that. In fact, I have seen many times when we are in a tight game at AFH and opponents have done that when going down the court after hitting a 3......doesn't bother me a bit. Actually...I think it's kind of cool.....

Feb 08, 2017 10:37 PM #37

@Blown hilarious meme!!

Feb 09, 2017 01:10 AM #38

@mayjay

I will respectfully disagree. Yes Mason might have had a slow start but by the time he made the playing sub-par comment, there were about 8 minutes left in the game and Mason was playing great and KU was in control.

Now, I understand that an analyst shopuld not be a cheerleader, like Vitale is of all things ACC, but I don't expect him to be openly hostile to the team. Starting with the obvious petty put down of Mason as one of the Conference top PGs to the disparaging comments about KU fans while sucking up to ISU fans, frankly unwarranted and unnecessary. Even his compliments appear to be more of the left handed variety rather than authentic.

Like I mentioned above, I used to like Fran when he was an objective commentator, but now his bias against KU is as evident as his newly acquired love for ISU. I don't know what happened to him but the change in attitude is very obvious to those of us that have followed his commentary for years.

And for the record, I did not say that no KU fans like him, what I said was...I cant’ think of a single KU fan that likes him; obviously I did no think of you but of all the KU fans with whom I interact regularly outside this forum. It's all good, we agree to disagree on this one...and I still hope you get your new car, you do have a birthday comimg up anyway and lots of spousal capital. :smiley:

Too bad OSU sucks tonight. Baylor is not their superbowl.

And yes it's so noticeable how different the commentary is

As it turns out, not so much! Really wasn't a game worth staying for (SC had 10 FGs entire freaking 4 OT game??) so I was just laughing too hard at the irony to be able to cash in with any real "look what you did" pouting. No new car. (Maybe I can get Fran to buy me one for trying to defend his trouble-making self?)

Feb 09, 2017 02:11 AM #46

Oh no! Fran doing ou wv game. Miles stayed home, on crutches w/sprained ankle.

Feb 09, 2017 02:13 AM #47

Fran Fraschilla shows up to every KU game that he can, hoping that we will lose. He spends much of his time advising the audience what oponents need to do to defeat Kansas. It is really quite sad. Last year, he tried to convince viewers that Frank Mason was not even in the discussion of best guards in the country and has been eating his words ever since. I could really do without him. He always talks about New York, so he should call Syracuse or even Iona games and I think we would all be happy. At least I know I would.

Feb 09, 2017 02:15 AM #48

Baylor barely escapes stillwater with a 3 point win.

Feb 09, 2017 02:45 AM #49

@mayjay

I don't know...that game broke all kinds of records and will be remembered for a while.

I don't believe Fran is buying anyone related to KU any thing, any time soon. :smiley:

Feb 09, 2017 02:55 AM #50

So far Fran has only said Frank looked fatiqued the other night

Feb 09, 2017 04:58 AM #51

@JayHawkFanToo Interestingly, although we watched and heard Frank Martin screaming at his players many times, afterwards he blamed himself. Said they were too tired because he ran them too hard in practice.

If he ever looked at me the way he glares at his players, I think my soul would shrivel up and die.

Feb 09, 2017 05:00 AM #52

Watching OU/WVU and that jackhole Fran claims Lucas is a flopper. What a tool Fran is. #kubball

Feb 09, 2017 10:30 AM #53

@kjayhawks

Brutal, if only they had tried for the first 10+ minutes of the 2nd half like they tried at the end.

Feb 09, 2017 11:31 AM #54

@JayHawkFanToo I heard him on Mark Packer's show yesterday say "A lot of KU fans think I root against them." He knows what he said was true but then said nothing as to WHY fans feel that way.

Feb 09, 2017 11:43 AM #56

@JayHawkFanToo Aunt Franny gets the vapors at times. You'll have to forgive her, as she says silly things.

Feb 09, 2017 11:55 AM #57

@mayjay Think about it...what announcers do we like as a group? Answer: none of them. The only ones I like are the guys broadcasting from the Jayhawk network? ( you all would know them better than me, as I don't live anywhere near the KC area. ) I think Chris piper from the '88 team does the color. I can't recall the play by play guy, but I think he's the guy who used to call the Royals games. Like I said, you all would know.

Feb 09, 2017 12:09 PM #58

@KUSTEVE Dave Armstrong is the one with Piper.

Feb 09, 2017 12:19 PM #59

@JayHawkFanToo I did hear that, but actually I took it in the context of a compliment. I felt the same way at the time. It felt like Frank was having a lousy game, but then you look at the stat sheet and you're like " Hmmmm - if that's a lousy game, I hope he has a lot more lousy games".

It reminded me of when Nick Collison would have 22 pts and 17 rebounds and you were like "really, i didn't even know Nick was playing today?"

Feb 09, 2017 04:12 PM #60

@RockChalkinTexas

When the talk after a game is about the refs, it means it was a poorly officiated game.; when the game is properly officiated, nobody talks about the refs. Likewise, when Fran feels he must address the issue of "fans thinking he roots against KU," there must be some or a lot of truth to it, otherwise why would he do it?

Feb 11, 2017 12:35 AM #61

Fran's simply trying to keep the audience interested in-yet-another-KU-B12-win, by suggesting at various junctures what the opposing team needs to do to beat KU. And if the other team beats KU, he will get props, and it would jolt subsequent games' ratings. The "go thru Kansas" line has been polished repeatedly for 3-4 years now.

Doesnt mean KU fans wont like him, for suggesting anti-KU plays or strategies, but I think he's just playing viewership.

Feb 11, 2017 01:20 AM #62

OK, so pretty much a 100% thing Fran kind of sucks. - So who do we think is one of the better one's? -- Me personally? - - Kind of like Jay Williams, pretty much is at the top for me - -Then I even like Seth some also , who does everyone else like? - - ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY
