@BShark Texas is kicking VCU butt up by 17. - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

Dec 06, 2017 01:30 AM #3

Villanova taking Gonzaga to the woodshed. Villanova is forcing lots of turnovers and getting to the basket with ease midway through 2nd half.

Dec 06, 2017 01:31 AM #4

Nova is real good.

Dec 06, 2017 01:33 AM #5

@jayballer54 - turned it off after I had to listen -again - about Smart beating KU in the Elite 8. That’s his best ever game, and if the Morris brothers had kept quiet, I still think KU would have won. 🤬🤬🤬

jay Wright is a pretty good coach. - - Jaylen Brunson - -really solid guard - I truly didn't think he would stay all 4 years nothing flashy -- just gets it done. - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

Texas Tech taking Nevada into overtime. - -Nevada ranked #22 in the Nation. - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

Dec 06, 2017 03:14 AM #25

Nebraska is up 8 on #14 Minnesota at the half.

Dec 06, 2017 04:35 AM #26

@Gorilla72

Nebraska beats Minnesota in big upset.

Big win for a Tech over #22 Nevada in OT.

Wichita gets it together and comes back to beat SDSU.

Arizona barely gets by A&M. Davis is really good but Ayton is better and A&M has no outside game and Arizona is not that good either.

Bad loss for Notre Dame, good wins for West Virginia and TCU.

Texas almost gave away the game to Shaka’s old school VCU.

With KSU win the Big 12 goes 5-o.

Dec 06, 2017 06:14 AM #27

@jayballer54

It was an OK game but game of the year? No, not even close. Interesting, in the recap a ESPN lists Davis as having 21 points and 10 rebounds when he only had 2; Ayton had 10 rebounds.

@JayHawkFanToo Some quality wins for the big 12 last night. Texas Tech beats # 22 in overtime after trialing pretty much the entire game. -West Virginia . Dec 06, 2017 03:12 PM #31

I came away less impressed with A & M than what I had originally thought. Guard play looks like an issue, and why in the world is Kennedy playing his bigs on the perimeter??? I don't like their offensive approach at all.

Dec 06, 2017 03:28 PM #32

@KUSTEVE

Off game for them. Hogg didn't shoot the ball much and he's their best perimeter player and shooter by far. This was also practically a home game for Zona. But I agree A&M didn't look as good as they did early when they thumped West Virginia and others.

Dec 06, 2017 03:57 PM #33

@BeddieKU23 Arizona's defense was solid. A&m is no offensive juggernaut

Dec 06, 2017 04:13 PM #34

@HawkChamp

I agree Zona slowed the game down and used their pack line defense to limit A&M from scoring.

Dec 06, 2017 04:22 PM #35

Once Alkins returns for Zona look out. Gives them that 3rd scorer alongside the Trier/Ayton combo. Takes a lot less pressure off their freshman guards to produce. They will be really tough to beat once he's full go which is going to happen soon according to reports. I expect to see them rounding back into preseason hype over the next few months.

KU & Arizona are two teams that have the chance to improve a good amount with mid-season additions

Dec 06, 2017 04:28 PM #36

Nova looked like one of the best teams in America last night. Mikal Bridges has grown into a potential lotto pick. Having Spellman in the middle really helps them on the boards and protecting the rim. They just look like a typical smart Nova teams with plenty of options. They lack a true go-to guy like they had last season but they may avoid situations for much of the year where that's going to matter much. It looks like most nights Brunson & Bridges can carry the team and everyone else just fills their role. Jay Wright continues to put out a high quality product on the court despite losing multiple starters. The Big East will test them this season which should be an ultra competitive league this year.

As for last nights game with Gonzaga I thought it was a bad matchup for the Zags. They don't have the talent they had last year and Nova was a more complete basketball team and it showed big time for large stretches of the game.

Dec 06, 2017 04:29 PM #37

@KUSTEVE

I agree. Other than their bigs they don't have much of anything, a good outside shooter could have put that game away but they kept passing open looks to go inside. Like I said before, Arizona will continue to improve and with the talent it has is a legitimate top 10 maybe even top 5.

Dec 06, 2017 06:10 PM #38

Everytime I see Nova trap the ball at half court, and in the corners, I just wish we would try doing the same thing. Maybe not every play, but man does that generate turnovers, and run outs.

Dec 06, 2017 06:40 PM #39

@JayHawkFanToo Even when A & M went inside, they don't do any seal offs that I could see- it was alot of those 4 to 6 foot jumpers. I was thinking paper tiger watching Kennedy's offense. I have zero fear of them.

Dec 06, 2017 06:43 PM #40

@KUSTEVE but you know they will play their best coming into Allen Fieldhouse. Pigs will fly before a team doesn't come amped up to play us.
But overall I saw what you saw last night - a team that can be pretty good defensively but not exactly dynamic offensively like Duke or Michigan State or our guys.

Dec 06, 2017 06:48 PM #41

@KUSTEVE TAM's ranks 36th in the nation in rebound margin. Not bad. KU is 56th. What negative impact did you see from the failure to seal? Perhaps their rebound margin was bulked up against bad teams. And rebound margin can be affected on the offensive end if you make shots -- not as many available rebounds, but also for the opposition(the other way around) because they have more balls to rebound -- so both affect the margin. We're 3rd, TAM is 49th there.

Dec 06, 2017 06:50 PM #42

If the guard from A&M could have made all three of his FT's this game might have ended differently in OT. Ayton fouled the shooter with just a few seconds left in the game. He missed one and that sealed their fate.

We've seen better offensive performances from A&M this season. Any casual fan could have tuned into KU's game against Kentucky or Syracuse and seen that KU hasn't exactly lit up the world against better competition either

These were two teams that could be bound for the later stages of the tournament. I thought A&M did an excellent job of limiting Ayton to quality shots because Zona played two bigs primarily A&M was able to leave the other big alone and trap him. Against KU A&M probably doesn't get that luxury if they try and double/triple team Doke down in the low post. A&M's length will bother us though especially pogo stick Williams who's a bigger version of Jordan Bell.

Dec 06, 2017 07:39 PM #43

@BeddieKU23

He had made 17-18 or something like it prior to that.

Davis and Ayton are the real deal. Davis will be hard to stop with what we have but his rebounding was limited to 2 at this game. ESPN was hyping up the Ayton-Wiliams match up and I understand he is the higher ranked player but Davis is in my opinion the best player on the team. A&M has 7 players 6'-9" or taller.

Funny take. On the Arizona last foul on the 3 point attempt the refs went to review if his foot was on the line...of the NBA 3 -point line; he was well behind the college 3-point line. :smile:

Dec 06, 2017 07:42 PM #44

@HighEliteMajor They don't post up. reminds me of Baylor. They had a decided advantage down low, especially against Ristic, and never challenged him. How many times have we seen Baylor have one of the tallest front lines in basketball, and never play to the strengths? I thought the whole A & M team looked a little slow and cumbersome on offense.

Dec 06, 2017 07:45 PM #45

@KUSTEVE just against Purdue last year, our speed will be the deciding factor. That Purdue game was perfect execution on how to beat a taller team.

Dec 06, 2017 08:19 PM #46

@JayHawkFanToo

That was funny.

I agree Davis is the best player on their team.

Williams hasn't looked the part of a lotto pick so far in his 2nd year. He might have stayed a season too long stock wise

Dec 06, 2017 08:21 PM #47

@KUSTEVE Interesting. I haven't seen TAM play this season yet. DeCoursey on the radio today said he thought they were a top 5 type team. Baylor is an interesting comparison. Good info to look for.

Dec 06, 2017 08:24 PM #48

@HighEliteMajor

It sure did not look like top 5 team last night. We will find out soon enough...

Dec 06, 2017 08:26 PM #49

I don't believe we've seen A&M's best basketball yet. Remember they started the season down 2 starters and they are just now getting into game action on a regular basis. I still think they look like the best team in the SEC and by the time they come to Allen Fieldhouse this could be a team well equipped to give us a serious challenge

Dec 06, 2017 09:45 PM #50

We all remember TAM giving Self one of his few home losses ... no repeats, please.

Dec 06, 2017 10:03 PM #51

@HighEliteMajor amen to that brother

Dec 06, 2017 10:41 PM #52

@HighEliteMajor KU by 15. I think WVU will give us a much better game.

Dec 06, 2017 10:51 PM #53

@KUSTEVE they always do. I would be surprised if they didnt.

Dec 06, 2017 11:52 PM #54

@KUSTEVE @HawkChamp Huggins loves his bonus lol

Dec 06, 2017 11:53 PM #55

@HighEliteMajor that was a good game, Acie Law, that’s a name I haven’t heard or thought of in a long time. He hit a tightly guarded 3 on Rush to seal it.

HighEliteMajor said:

I...was...there... :face_palm: Only KU loss I’ve personally attended. Acie Law IV killed it that night.

Dec 06, 2017 11:58 PM #57

@dylans I’ve never been to a KU loss in basketball (8-0),but never been to a win in football (0-6).

Dec 07, 2017 12:00 AM #58

@kjayhawks I’ve seen KU beat the sooners in football. (Terry Allen I think)

I’ve honestly lost track of the amount of games I’ve been to, but I’d say roughly 75 games in Allen Fieldhouse and 3 in the Sprint Center.

I wish it were more.

Dec 07, 2017 12:01 AM #59

@dylans Ah .. I enjoyed both they ORU loss and the Richmond loss. Both were the shocking type.

Dec 07, 2017 12:02 AM #60

@HighEliteMajor Ouch. Glad I wasn’t in public myself. I wasn’t very impressed either time.

Well I’m hoping to see Sosinksi in person during the Omaha “game”

Dec 07, 2017 12:04 AM #61

@dylans Yes, 1998 would be the last W for us bs OU in FB. Ya I’ve been to a B.B. game every year since 09. I’m only 2.5 hours from Lawrence. It just too expensive to go a ton, we’ve considered relocating to Lawrence but my wife would hate me going to all sorts of games and we’d go broke lol.

Dec 07, 2017 12:06 AM #62

@HighEliteMajor I was madder than a one legged waiter working at IHOP atfter the Richmond game.

Dec 07, 2017 12:07 AM #63

@kjayhawks I had season tickets for a few years as a student. Now it’s a 6 1/2 hour drive to Lawrence so once or twice a season is it.

The Big12 tournament is a blast (esp. if KU wins it), but you can’t beat Allen Fieldhouse.

Dec 07, 2017 12:09 AM #64

@dylans I’ve wanted to go to KC for several years now for that. I’m hoping I can go to Wichita for the tournament games this year. It’s only an 50 minute drive for me.

Dec 07, 2017 12:11 AM #65

@kjayhawks

Best time is for the Big 12 Tournament, the weather is usually nice and the entire area (Power and Light District) is jumping. If you can't get tickets you can watch the games on the big screen. Huge party.

Dec 07, 2017 12:32 AM #66

A few figures from the KU site, enjoy them...

  • Kansas is the only NCAA DI program that can boast five players averaging at least 11.9 points per game.
  • The Jayhawks rank among the top-10 of NCAA DI in five offensive categories: First in scoring margin (+30.6), first in field goals per game (30.6), third in field goal percentage (53.5), third in assists per game (20.3), sixth in points per game (91.9) and 10th in 3-point field goal percentage (43.5). Kansas also ranks 11th in the NCAA in 3-pointers made per game (11.6).
  • No Kansas team has averaged more than 94 ppg in its opening six contests of a season since the 2000-01 Jayhawks and no KU team has scored more points in its first six outings since the 1988-89 squad that averaged 95.2 ppg in the opening six games of Roy Williams' tenure at KU.
  • KU features four players that are shooting over 50 percent from the field (w/ min. of 3 attemtps per game), including, Udoka Azubuike, who boasts a 76 percent clip, the second-best mark in NCAA DI .
  • Kansas is averaging 51.7 points in the first half and is outscoring its opponents by an average of 22.8 points in the opening 20 minutes - The Jayhawks have also proved to be an efficient offense, scoring an average of 1.18 points per possession. Only five other DI programs boast a higher figure.

Dec 07, 2017 02:32 AM #71

Dec 07, 2017 02:35 AM #73

@HawkChamp Amen !!!

Dec 07, 2017 02:36 AM #74

And there's Malik playing stupid on the break. Coaching staff really needs to have a chat with him about playing smart.

Dec 07, 2017 02:41 AM #75

Boy oh boy got to play without fouling. Can't put the refs in a position to blow the whistle, which is what I always kept in mind as a player.

Dec 07, 2017 02:42 AM #76

Clay can't hang

Dec 07, 2017 02:48 AM #77

Dumb shot after dumb shot. Why are they so timid in the middle of the zone? Good grief

Dec 07, 2017 02:49 AM #78

@Crimsonorblue22 Dok has to play smarter. That is the only solution right now. There is no other option.

Dec 07, 2017 03:04 AM #79

@HawkChamp Yes.....Vick looked so good in the middle against Cuse..........now he looks bad....just shoot it. Garrett doesn't even look at the basket in the middle.......why put him there?

Dec 07, 2017 03:08 AM #80

Worse half of the season. Don’t seem to know how to deal with the extended zone. Hopefully Coach Self can get them straightened at half time.

Dec 07, 2017 03:11 AM #81

Dec 07, 2017 04:08 AM #97

Dec 07, 2017 04:11 AM #98

Outcoached tonight. Plain and simple.

Dec 07, 2017 05:07 AM #99

@jaybate-1.0 Every year just like clock work, someone has a bad and they are hurt arrcording to you. Washington was more athletic than any team we have faced baring maybe a super young UK. DTG has played good for 2 whole games outta 8. Svi must be hurt he shot well under his average, Newman has been hurt all year I suppose too. Pretty much every tonight was hurt I reckon.

Dec 07, 2017 05:47 AM #100

2-3 zone is Bill Self's kryptonite. They looked horrible. Vick was the absolute ounce of life.

However, Washington experienced lightening in a bottle. They won't do it again all year. Every damn team does this to KU. Teams play up and KU plays down. It's amazing every year to watch it happen. Washington had to be that team.

Dec 07, 2017 05:53 AM #101

@Crimsonorblue22 What defense? It was anything but defense.

Dec 07, 2017 05:56 AM #102

@jaybate-1.0 Garrett has shown some flashes, but nothing that makes him anywhere near a freshman sensation.
Graham may have one of the most inconsistent years at KU.
Who is Newman?
Hell...even Lightfoot showed some life.
Doke looked panicked most of the game.
Young may have been the best player tonight in terms of effort.

Dec 07, 2017 05:58 AM #103

Gawd, I'm SO pissed right now and Self better not come out with any of his stupid curt comments about the game. The HOF coach got his ass outcoached, sorry, but the coaching or scouting for this game was a complete failure.

Every year I am proven right. Injury is always shaping outcomes and limiting options and forcing teams and players to play other than the way fans expect. Every year certain fans jump to reductive conclusions that the coach got outcoached, and nothing else was involved. Every year, certain fans confuse oversimplification with elegant explanation. Every year I go through this with someone.

I look forward to going through it with you this season.

Rock Chalk!

Dec 07, 2017 07:07 AM #105

@jaybate-1.0 no you aren't proven right every year. You are excusing crappy play (plus poor game planning) for injuries. Its just flat out silly and is not a logical explanation for losses except where someone does not play. Ku beat themselves today.

Dec 07, 2017 07:18 AM #106

@truehawk93 recruiting and the fundamentals have been pretty poor the last four years. The type of players, not the rankings, has been off too. We need beefy, tough, defensive minded players who aren't going to get bullied and won't take crap. The last few years we have had mostly soft offensive minded players, and each year lost to the tough, defensive oriented groups. This years team won't make the final four because they have little defensive ability and only want to shoot. As history has shown, that doesn't work well in March.

Never. I never do that. Certain board rats just don't notice my multifactorial analysis of the poor play, especially in this case involving the loss of poise and quitting, the latter of which is the absolute WORST kind of play.

I ALWAYS include most of the drivers of defeat, or victory, that I can think of. Injury often is a factor. But rarely the only factor. I may miss a few, and then other folks make the necessary additions.

But there are always a few reductive board rats that struggle with keeping more than one driver of outcome in mind, especially when disappointed with a loss, and so get their keyboards in a wad about one driver, rather than looking at the array of drivers I discuss.

@truehawk93

This is one of those games where UW just shot better. If you think Self coached KU to shoot 25% from trey and 50% from the FT stripe, then he got out coached. Otherwise it was just a bad shooting night and this team isn’t big enough or deep enough to overcome 25% from trey.

While Vick provided the bulk of the scoring he really should have had a lot more point. He was left wide open the entire 39 minutes he played and he could have driven to the basket every time and all the shots he missed were from well inside the paint.

@JayHawkFanToo exactly. This one is on Self for not making Wahington pay for their gamble. Yes, they gambled. Hopkins must think Self is stupid or he wouldn't have done that.

Damn, between Oklahoma making 9 three pointers in the 1st half - -11 USC turnovers and Trae Young scoring 20 in the 1st half - -don't think I'm going to like this kid very much. - Fortunely I think he is a OAD. - very legit. - -USC lucky they only down 12 at the half. - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY
