Arizona State Sun Devils - Saturday - 8pm - ESPN2

We lost by a lot last year in the Field House. We also had to experience the embarrassing disaster that is Bill Walton. Now we go to their house. The loss they had to Vanderbilt is similar to the loss that Villanova had to Penn. Both teams had their minds not focused on that game, but the next one with KU. This is a very dangerous game.

The matchup between Cheathem and D. Lawson should be interesting. This could be a game where we need something from Grimes because I don't think we beat ASU with just Vick and Lawson scoring. Either that, or we need a strong game from Dotson.

UGH, this was my first loss witnessed live in the Field House. We were so slow to rotate defensively and not having a bench killed us, I think their bench scored like 20 point while ours score 2 or something like that. Tra Holder was far and away the best player on the court that day, I remember he had 29 points. At one point in that game I believe they were like 12 for 17 shooting 3s and finished at 50% from there. I think we got rattled when they started hitting everything they could throw up and Svi started throwing up ill advised 3s. Not very often to we score 85 and lose at home, I really think they played one of their best games of the year that day and we were average. This years club for ASU doesn't have Holder, Justice or near as good of shooters as last season. It will be an interesting match up. They will run the same stuff and try to spread us out on the perimeter. Our Guards will have to be discipline and not over help or let guys drive on them or it could be another long game. They are super balanced obviously with 4 guys averaging in double figures. I like Garrett on Dort, I think we has the size and quickness to frustrate him.

The main thing is defense. Have to set the tone for the game, especially on the perimeter. @kjayhawks you are right about ASU playing their best game of the year. I watched them in some of their other games and they did not shoot nearly as well in those games as they did against us. This year, they don’t have some of those players, like Holder, but they are still solid. Need to guard the three hard, get out in transition and don’t turn the ball over. If we do those things, I like our chances a lot. Hopefully this one doesn’t join the long line of last game before Christmas stinkers that Self teams seem to have annually.

With Q in the lineup, we seem to have matchup problems, so why not start Mitch instead of Q? KU isn't getting anything from Grimes anyway and Mitch will be super motivated to start so close to home. That should put Vick defending 6'7" Lawrence their second leading scorer, which is better than Q defending him. I say go big in the paint since this is a 2 point shooting team. If ASU changes character and starts hitting 3s, then go back to our 4 guard line up. We've got to get this W.

@JayHawkFanToo Matt Tait predicted that Garrett will guard Dort, the Devil's leading scorer at 20 points a game. Dort's 6'4", but solidly built. Coach Self said Dort's playing like a lottery pick. If Q starts, that puts Q on 6'7" Lawrence or 6'8" Cheatham. This just isn't the game for KU to continue to play Q in hopes he comes out of his funk.

Grimes has not played well on offense but he has been good on defense. If you look at the Villanova game, when the game was on the line and KU needed defense, Coach Self put Grimes in; he obviously thinks he plays good defense and would be good shooting FTs.

I think there will be several thousand KU fans in the house tonight so that should help. I actually heard as of yesterday there were still some tickets avalible.

Hope the Hawks come out focused. This would be a nice road win and make Christmas a lot sweeter for the boys and coaches.

Guys I'm just going to put this out here right now right at 4 hours before game time: - - I'm pretty worried about tonight actually.

Arizona St got everything going it's way tonight - -they have hyped the hell out of this game , playing at their place - -they been looking forward to this since last year. - - Players really fired but -atmosphere really charged

We haven't played a complete game this year. - -having to play from behind a lot - - 1st true road game for us - -always struggle before Christmas break , the guys minds everywhere but the ball game

Thin Arizona St is more athletic from what I've heard - -worried about quickness - -I'm afraid this might be one game where Dedric gonna have a rough night.

I'm just saying hope I'm wrong -BUT don't be shocked if we take our 1st loss -just be ready guys - -hope I'm wrong 0but not getting a very good vibe - - ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

Guard play is just boo boo right now. Outside of Dotson, they're underwhelming. I've never seen a team be so bad in transition AND so piss poor at shooting. If Grimes and Garrett could just make normal plays on offense, we'd be beating teams like ASU by 20+ points.

Both of them are not good at basketball right now.

I think it may be time for a radical strategy. 4 bigs 1 guard. Dedric, Doke, Big Dave and Mitch all around Dotson. Put your best 5 on the court.

@Kcmatt7 I'd throw in moore and sr Vick too. Grimes gets a lil break from me since he's a frosh. The other 3 were pathetic! Pull those out! Wasted shots. Vick was playing hero ball, falling back, moore way to far back, grimes had a falling back 3 too. Vick was watching on D while his man slipped under the basket for a goal. Lazy! Not team ball at all. D dot understands what we need to do, the other guards not on the same page. Marcus did hit his throws last night. Good sign. Can't be close enough to let the refs decide game. They sucked. I didn't mind Walton. Which is weird.
