One of the Wildest Turnarounds, Saint Peter's

This is kinda random but it's conference post season tournament time and I was looking into the small conferences.

They bottomed out with a new HC last year after toiling in the middle of the MAAC for years with their previous coach. Insane recruiting class (for a MAAC school) and got to 2nd in their league with 6 FR in their rotation. They appear to play everyone, their 13th guy has more minutes than Silvio. Highest scorer only has 230 points on the season.

@BShark That's crazy, 8.5 PPG is their leading scorer and 22.6 mpg is their top minutes guy.

Mar 09, 2020 06:22 AM #3

@BShark With the right rotation and if everyone can set aside egos, a rotation like that can work. That Kentucky team that should have won it all used a two-platoon sytem to great effect until meeting Frank the Tank in the Final 4.

They lost by 10 to Robert Morris in the Northeast Conference Championship game. Still a good year for them.

@kjayhawks After seeing the reference to Kentucky earlier in the thread, the Robert Morris connex to ousting St. Peter's, is interesting. They took out UK in the 2013 NIT in the first round.

Looking it up, I was surprised to see the game was in the little town, Moon Township, PA, where Cal grew up and was named prom king. "You can't go home again."

Mar 11, 2020 03:58 PM #6

Ha... they are following the coaching strategy I use for my 6 yr old's team! Everyone plays...

Mar 11, 2020 07:33 PM #7

@mayjay my dad was stationed in Moon Township during Korea. He met my mom at a church in Pittsburgh. She was from a town near there called Mars. So my dad from moon married my mom from mars.

@wissox They must have really thought this book was petty silly!

Did I ever mention I’m an ET? Helped me get a sweet scholarship at KU.

Mar 11, 2020 10:53 PM #10

@wissox always knew there was something strange about you!!! Haha

Mar 12, 2020 04:51 AM #11

@wissox "I'll be,, right, here.."

Mar 18, 2022 12:39 AM #12

Took a couple years, but this is a great result. They have some real dudes.

Hello…
St. Peter’s just beat the ā€œsuperior athletes ā€œ of Kensookee!!

St Peters has some strong athletes tbh

Mar 18, 2022 01:21 AM #15

I will enjoy this more than the KU game tonight and I’m okay with that

Mar 18, 2022 01:21 AM #16

What’s the math on all-time wins now?

Mar 18, 2022 01:24 AM #17

Yes… clearly.

The tourney is just nuts. Always has been. Somewhere on a Kentucky site right now a poster is calling for Calamari’s head… he can’t recruit the right players, he doesn’t know how to coach tight games, etc etc. etc.

The tourney is downright scary. This is absolutely no guarantee that better teams will advance. It is very hard to judge a program on ncaa results alone

Mar 18, 2022 01:24 AM #18

UK fans have to be calling for Cals head. Missed tourney followed by a 2-15 loss

Mar 18, 2022 01:25 AM #19

The crazy thing is St Peters was not very well coached. Their "offense" frequently gave me palpitations. Talent carried.

Mustached savior coming off of set play screens won that game. But Cal is also an awful in-game coach so a loss like this was long overdue

Mar 18, 2022 04:40 AM #21

I think we are one game behind UK now in total wins.

Mar 18, 2022 04:59 AM #22

I almost blew a very important professional dinner to track this game. GO COCKS

Mar 18, 2022 10:46 AM #23

@Kcmatt7 I think this has been answered, but KU is one win away from tying Kentucky in all time wins. KU is now +3 wins over Kentucky after beating Tx S and started the season with 2,323 wins vs. Kentucky's 2327 wins. RC

Sweet 16!!!!

Mar 20, 2022 05:03 AM #25

Best tournament Cinderella in a long long time.

Mar 20, 2022 12:15 PM #26

So athletic. Nothing easy as they go after everything. Their coach is a character as well! Fun team to watch

Mar 26, 2022 12:36 PM #27

Incredible.

Mar 26, 2022 02:13 PM #28

Really can't believe they knocked off Purdue. Reminds me of the year George Mason went to the Final Four. That run was stunning.

Only difference is this is a 15 seed!

Mar 26, 2022 02:23 PM #29

wow

Mar 26, 2022 02:28 PM #30

The incredible part to me is how the ACC managed to get 3 Elite Eight teams. They must've run thousands of algorithms to set the initial matchups in order to accomplish this.

Mar 26, 2022 03:05 PM #31

ESPN sports center this morning. Shows Jayhawk highlights, they talk a little about KU being only 1 seed left and how 2 of the 4 sole surviving 1 seeds have won it all. The female host then says "lets talk about a great game, Miami, and ISU". Excuse me? What was great about that game? A 14 point win? A 10 and 11 seed. I just hate ESPN so much.

That was literally the worst game of the night. Idiots with an agenda.

Edert's got it! And he's fouled by Mintz with 7.4 on the clock!
