Donald Trump's Public Service Announcement
Mar 12, 2020 01:18 AM #1

His advice to Americans: use proper hygiene. No explanation of a social distancing policy. Tax breaks and 50 billion dollars for select businesses, blocking all incoming from Europe including goods.

This seems completely ineffective.

Mar 12, 2020 01:21 AM #2

@approxinfinity You have to remember that there’s no one who knows this virus more than Donny.

Mar 12, 2020 01:23 AM #3

Democrats are blaming him for not closing the boarders in December. The same ones screaming for open boarders for the last 3 years SMH. You can’t make up this type of stupidity. I really didn’t expect the turd to have any useful info tho.

Mar 12, 2020 01:33 AM #4

Well look @kjayhawks . We're past just closing the borders. We are past just quarantining individuals.
The disease is spreading in the wild and we need a clearly defined social distancing policy, if not enforced then strongly recommended. He doesn't want to eat his words about having only 15 cases in the US when he was sticking his head in the sand. He needs to act like a leader and communicate the best policy, which is social distancing.

Mar 12, 2020 02:41 AM #5

His announcement we’re banning European imports only to tweet almost immediately lol jk is not exactly confidence inspiring. A travel ban and $50 billion in SBA loans is Nero fiddling type stuff.

Problem is you are bashing the president. When the Dem’s party only plan is to listen to the scientist. From everything I’m reading and hearing the scientist and health workers agree with what Trump has done.

Other than allow testing outside the CDC’s purview, making those tests available (Germany has a good one), then announcing a ban on imports only for every related agency to say actually no he totally didn’t mean that. I’m not even sure Trump knows what the administration’s policy is. He’s not exactly geared to govern in crisis mode.

Mar 12, 2020 10:33 AM #8

@DoubleDD the problem is that every single thing this president has ever said or done is through the lens of what is best for him. Responding to coronavirus cannot be about him. But he makes it about him, choosing self-flattering words and policies. he's a floundering blackhole that sucks all attention away from the actual issue at hand. It's absolutely not what we need right now.

Mar 12, 2020 01:28 PM #9

Just turned on the TV and it looks like President Biden is taking over.

Mar 12, 2020 05:56 PM #14

H1N1 killed an estimated 500,000 people world wide and over 4,000 in this country. I believe the coronavirus is still below 10,000 globally and less than 100 in this country. Don’t let your political affiliation blind you, he did fart fire nothing during that time tho World health and multiple countries declared it a pandemic. Trump and Obama are both fools to me.

Mar 12, 2020 06:58 PM #15

I’m not sure why some are upset with the way Trump has handling this situation. Most of these procedures are already put in place. It’s just a matter of following the playbook. The key to handling the spread of the coronavirus, Really most be done at the local level. Trump has given the governors of Washington, and California everything they have asked for. Per the press conferences of these governors.

Heard a presser from KC today. All good stuff. The fight is going to be won with education and on the local levels. Any president can only do so much. The biggest thing a president can do is keep everybody calm. Something I think Trump is doing, and Obama did in his term.

I think not totally botching your Oval Office address and leaving Americans abroad and European officials totally confused about the conflicting information coming out of the WH is a good start.

Mar 12, 2020 07:06 PM #17

@DoubleDD Serious question unrelated to our differing political beliefs. Do you think this currently is people keeping calm?

Mar 12, 2020 07:22 PM #18

I think the biggest thing a president can do is set an appropriate tone by speaking clearly and speaking the truth.

That starts with putting the interests of others ahead of his own. It means listening to experts and not dismissing and contradicting them. And it means avoiding over-statements, exaggerations and hyperbole.

I think this president has pattern of behavior that proves he is incapable of meeting ANY of these requirements.

In ANY business in the world other than a family-run business, this kind of incompetence would get you fired.

Yea I’m pretty sure that Trump listens to experts, but at the end of the day it’s his ass on the line. Just like any president. Problem with today’s political environment? Is if it isn’t one of your own, then you have to get rid of them. No matter how good they have done.

Trump could cure cancer and some would still complain. Let that sink in. Trump isn’t the problem.

Mar 12, 2020 08:14 PM #22

@DoubleDD Trump certainly isn't the ONLY problem but arguing he isn't problematic at this point is pretty absurd.

Mar 12, 2020 08:16 PM #23

@DoubleDD Also, curing cancer doesn't absolve you from the responsibility of being a decent human being, which is I think most people's real problem with Trump.

Haven't you heard? He has a "natural ability." Like medical knowledge is apparently a genetic trait! He shared this epiphany at the CDC last week.

Watch the video. It's vintage Trump. At the end, you can see how concerned he is about the numbers.

https://www.bbc.com/news/av/world-us-canada-51761880/trump-on-coronavirus-people-are-really-surprised-i-understand-this-stuff ↗

And these remarks that he made on the south lawn of the WH further illustrate to what lengths he will pursue a selfish agenda to downplay the numbers:

https://www.whitehouse.gov/briefings-statements/remarks-president-trump-marine-one-departure-84/ ↗

Oh, I'm sure he thinks he could cure cancer. That's his problem. Those who believe him... that's their problem.

I see no evidence that he listens to experts unless it serves his self-interests.

Mar 13, 2020 02:13 AM #26

@bskeet I appreciated Colbert's commentary on that:

“Here’s the thing,” Colbert said Monday. “We can criticize Trump’s golfing and tweeting. But when he hunkers down and focuses on the problem, that’s when he really sucks.”

To illustrate his point, Colbert cited Trump's appearance at the Center for Disease Control in Atlanta on Friday, which included the president claiming he might have a “natural ability” for science in part because his uncle had attended MIT.

“I don’t care how smart your uncle was—epidemiology is not genetic,” a flabbergasted Colbert said on Monday. “You don’t get your mother’s eyes and your father’s Ph.D.—knowledge does not get passed down. That’s why, no matter how much we all know it now, future generations are going to have to learn for themselves that you’re an idiot.”

He fails regardless of how I feel. I just want him and this twisted Stockholm sydrome logic to get out of our lives. Do you honestly think I want people to die so we can get rid of Trump? Yes they’re on the same page which is why the White House had to say most everything Trump said in his Oval Office address wasn’t correct, then they hype up a website that doesn’t exist in the Rose Garden. I would hope they could at least get the basics right instead of people panicking overseas because they think they can’t get home or going to find a website that doesn’t exist.

You seemed to have lost a word there. Do I think you're senile? No. Do you think if I took 100 of your sentences where you may have dropped a word (everyone does it) and strung them together in one post trying to convince the public that you're senile (i.e. a Fox News smear job) you might appear senile to someone who takes my word for it? Maybe.

Would Fox News have you believe that Biden is senile by only showing you clips of where he stumbles on a word? For sure. Is he actually senile? No.

LOL - - there is only one problem with that. That's I don't give a flying F if people think I'm Senile or not , & that even include you . Do I care if your think I'm Senile ? - -Hell No I don't , but then again I'm not trying to become the leader of this nation either - - HUGE difference. This is NO a one time thing with Biden it's things like this that since he is giving his attempt to become the leader this has happened multiple times, but doesn't matter to me really, you see cause I don't stick with ONE part affiliation I'm going to vote for who I think is the better at the time but it sure isn't Biden but I'm not going to have to worry about that.

Now I will say this for sure I am against this thing 10000000% Trump is talking about now , and that's sending people BACK to work before we get some kind of grip on this virus that is lust plain lnsanity. - Ha maybe he fits with me as you said about me insane - -well goodie.. They are talking about the mortality rate being right at 1% and that being the elderly with under lying conditions. It's just like the NY Gov saying it's like and they said well they are old they are going to die anyways - that's just totally screwed up, and that is the way this comes across, lets take our chances and if the elderly die they die . Let's get back to work.

Oh and Again I don't care if you don't say anything as you said about my running sentences together, forget to place a word, I think if you even begin to try you can figure out what the hell I'm saying, either way I will still sleep just fine. I'm not trippin whether people can figure out my context I'm not the one runnin for office there Buddy , but thanks for your concern. stay safe

Mar 24, 2020 04:58 PM #67

@jayballer73 Your feelings about whether people think you're senile were not my point nor are they relevant. You aren't senile.

I'm saying give Biden a chance and assume that he isn't senile and didn't somehow magically get within a stones throw of the highest office in the land despite being senile. He's not senile. That just isn't what is happening here. If that is what you're seeing then I'm asking to please consider watching the last democratic debate. He murdered Bernie. See it with your own eyes, then judge.

Look, I was in the same camp as you. Biden seemed to be losing it. But I watched that debate and he was sharp as a tack, and he even said that he's a very good delegator. I don't think Fauci would be facepalming behind a President Biden or saying "what do you want me to do? I can't throw him off the podium" about hte president (i paraphrase). Biden would not get in the way during this crisis because he would have the right people making decisions.
