Why the hell is Villanova and UCLA playing at 10:30pm on a Friday night??? That needs to be a prime time game considering it's a pair of top 5 teams playing each other. I hope I can make it awake for that one and then tomorrow night is the same deal with Texas and Gonzaga playing at 9:30.

These should be high profile games in prime time slots, not relegated to spots where most people won't be able to watch.

I will be asleep before that starts. Glad it isn't a KU game time...

It's really the blatant lies that stand out to me.

2022 Crootin • Nov 11, 2021 09:59 PM

@FarmerJayhawk We can definitely use a qb

@Crimsonorblue22 I also wonder if that battle of wills is going both ways. I honestly think it's good natured and not really a negative but I do think it's interesting. Martin exploded in that first half of ESU and Self still wasn't really happy with his play. I think it's interesting that the next game he didn't even take a shot in the first half.

Definitely agree with @BShark that it's "something to monitor."

Wish I could post some stuff publicly but was asked not to so I will stand by that.

We need a rating scale for this. The extreme ends are easy like say from Brady Morningstar to Brannen Green but it's those in between points. Naadir Tharpe could probably be on the scale just below Greene then maybe Taylor and the Morrii. CB for reference ranks out on the Brady end of the scale for Bill Self love.

@FarmerJayhawk But also Darnell. He loved Jamari but yeah Zuby should be better lol

Rice is ranked No. 20 in the country in the recruiting Class of 2022 by ESPN.com, No. 23 by Rivals.com and No. 25 by 247sports.com. He chose Kansas over many power-five schools and also considered playing in the NBA G League.

DID BILL DO IT?

No shit, Sherlock! • Nov 11, 2021 05:39 PM

@justanotherfan said in No shit, Sherlock!:

KSU hired a guy that was going nowhere.

Frank Martin was a much better coach, but KSU fans didn't like his attitude because they wanted someone like Bill Snyder. They got someone with that type of personality, but he can't win games, so there's a lesson in that somewhere.

On top of that, Weber can't recruit, so he's always going to be inconsistent. He will sometimes stumble into talent, like he had with Dean Wade and that group, but not consistently. He's just good enough to not get fired, but never good enough to make his team a consistent factor. He probably finished 5th in the conference, then steals a game in the NCAA tournament to save his job. Or they are as bad as the roster looks, and he gets canned 10 minutes after they lose in the Big XII tournament.

I believe I said this earlier but basically this works great until it doesn't. Eventually the school realizes it is the same old same old and there will be the drastic dips which they find unacceptable (Illinois). Bruce before KSU called was going to coach College of Charleston, a much better level for him imo.

Takeaways from Game #1 • Nov 11, 2021 05:36 PM

Of note

KU really played within Self's offense in the first half. Remy struggled, obviously. 39 points. 2nd half Bill kind of just set Remy loose. 48 points.

Something to monitor.

Takeaways from Game #1 • Nov 11, 2021 05:16 PM

Agbaji trending as a 1st round pick after his career high 29 pts on Tuesday. Hopefully he continues to play like that and gets PAID

Good guard play around him makes such a difference.

Non-KU Games • Nov 11, 2021 02:18 AM

KSU might lose to Florida A&M.

DAM buddy for sure ? - - -MJ is going to sign ? - -if that's true then that's a huge huge ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

Signed, sealed, and delivered my man. Now he could definitely still go pro. There's nothing stopping him from signing a pro deal.

Yeah the GLeague definitely doesn't play by "the rules" so to speak.

Takeaways from Game #1 • Nov 10, 2021 10:33 PM

@benshawks08 I think MSU's biggest problem is they gifted us a ton of turnovers. They didn't look slow but it is early.

I do think Izzo needs to start the Hoggard kid as PG1. The Walker kid looked not good at all, we were fortunate that he went to MSU instead and we got Remy.

@benshawks08 said in Takeaways from Game #1:

Quick guards with good handles and fast hands are such a luxury and we have several.

Crazy how we went from 0 to 4. I mean we had Harris last year but he was easing into it early on.

Heck even Och is showing signs of improvement with his handle. Something to monitor going forward as I would like to be convinced over multiple games lol.

@BShark Bingham could have had 20+ imo. They could have gone to him almost every play I thought. Didn't have a single guy who could guard that height and athleticism combo.

Give Bill a guy like that and watch out lol

Takeaways from Game #1 • Nov 10, 2021 07:18 PM

@Kcmatt7 Like I said before the game "soft"

@rockchalkjayhawk he is a center in the body of a wing. A bit like Jamari Traylor.

@DCHawker

Game 1 on a neutral floor with a lot of eyes watching, I think it was a solid shooting performance this early. The 3 point % brought it down a bit overall but that will happen.

Lots of lineup possibilities with this team. Going small will likely be situationally the way to go at times. However I think we'll still see our best 5 includes 4 around Dave

Hopefully JCL gets fully healthy, hard to shoot on a bad foot.

Cam Martin • Nov 10, 2021 05:06 PM

Yes it is confirmed and it was Martin's idea.

@Marco Chasen left for a better job and the replacement just isn't very good.

Michigan State Game Thread • Nov 10, 2021 02:49 PM

Right I'm not trying to compare them so much as you could see someone saying the same comment about Harris. I personally think we have enough scoring talent around him (esp with JWill back) that it works fine.

@Kcmatt7 said in Michigan State Game Thread:

I’m sorry but if Sahvir Wheeler is getting 38 mpg for you then you rent going to be a very good team… UK is not winning the SEC with this bunch. Probably better than last years squad, but we will have to see by how much. They got 16 more shots off than Duke and lost by 8 WHILE hitting 6 more threes than Duke. Yikes

People might say the same about Dajuan Harris tbf. I'm super happy we got Remy and not Wheeler. Big empty stats vibes from Wheeler. Yeah he will get his assists but it's because he is super ball dominant there basically isn't room for other players to get assists.

But yeah they do look like brick masons again. I'm sure corky is bemoaning the Iowa kid not being in there for Kentucky. I could see them finishing 4th in the SEC. Bama, Tennessee and just pick another decent team to finish in front of them.

Couple of moves in the last day. Rylan Griffen committed to Alabama. Mark Mitchell removed KU from his list. Two things we knew but needed the final decision on.

Yep.

We are on our own now trying to find info lol. Chasen was at least a very active reporter on 247. It's some ghost town shit now on the vip board.

Takeaways from Game #1 • Nov 10, 2021 12:58 PM

@BeddieKU23 It's all about the old line from Bill. Give him guys that are hard to guard, he will make them guard hard.

No shit, Sherlock! • Nov 10, 2021 03:41 AM

@wissox The games when Frank Martin was there were always tough. He had some dudes.

Well are we what Coach Self wanted? • Nov 10, 2021 03:38 AM

Definitely did not improve the athleticism situation down low. Sydney Curry would have done that but they jettisoned him and well he's a JUCO and you never know how JUCOs will pan out.

That said Dave was always going to start and he is simply not a great athlete for his position. Love him, wish him the best etc but that's just the truth. Same thing for JWill. JWill is a great rebounder though which we will need.

I think the key that you mentioned is skill and well, ball handling. Harris just wasn't quite ready most of the year last year. You could tell he was coming on late. He's not a scorer but the offense flows with him in. Remy has a lot of skill too. Bobby you can see why the staff loves him, under control, great ball skills. He will be the next great PG for Bill I would bet a lot on that. We went from 0 to 4 quality ball handling guards (it's not like Yesefu was bad when he was in).

Now next year, we could be a lot more athletic. Dave will depart, JWill will depart (barring a drastic change of heart). There are starting spots up for grabs. As the class stands right now, KU has some electric athletes. Udeh is nearing 7 feet. Needs polish offensively but an absolute monster on the glass and blocking shots. Zuby I am extremely excited for. Great on both ends at this stage. Gradey is very athletic too.

Great trade with ISU.

Will be interesting to track TGF and Bryce... Bryce was legitimately a bottom 3 season for a guard in the rotation ever under Bill.
