KU has some grit. This year is basically lost but bodes well for Leipold's future here. Year 3 feels like the target line for real progress and wins.
He is not a guard.
@Texas-Hawk-10 By emergency minutes I mean foul trouble/injury situations. I have no doubt he is a max time at KU player as well. I have not heard RS talk with him but could see it happening.
@mayjay Yeah while rankings are nice, they are not the end all be all. You also see guys like Svi and Frank near the bottom of the list, both were of course great Jayhawks.
To that end, I really think Bobby and Udeh in particular are tremendously good fits for Self, but we will see.
The box score will be leaked, probably immediately after the scrimmage lol.
Worth noting they aren't anything close to real games. Often times the coaches will work on particular things, they will do scenarios etc
KJ plays hard, that goes a long way with Bill. I think he will be an emergency minutes guy this year.
@Marco Brandon Miller will be going to the GLeague. #DreamKiller
Here is the interview Jayballer is talking about. Warning, it's long.
@approxinfinity 25th highest rated for KU based on composite rankings. Important to remember that it only goes back to like 2003. He's behind Cole and ahead of TRob. Good company.

7' guy is not a ball handler. Really makes you think.
The first two years I wouldn't expect anything being Self creating angles for him to get dunks and clean up put backs. Might not evolve much beyond that at all, but that still would make him a damn good college player if he is an elite defensive piece.
I think Grimes would have been fine/okay at KU had he stuck it out. Like his JR year would have been pretty good. There were definitely some warning signs there, a guy on the 247 board was a bit down on him, basically predicted his FR stats pretty close to exactly and got a lot of crap for it at the time.

You love to see it. How does Udeh project as a defender? Is he a shot-blocking type player?
Yes

@rockchalkwyo Don't think Rice sticks (hurrr) but it is nice to see recruiting back.
I completely agree. As you said awhile back, the Death Star is back in operation.
Last two classes needed to be awesome, and they are with time to go in the current one.
Had to make up for 2020 which is already all gone. Not terribly surprising given there was a JUCO and a D2 level guy involved but man, I thought Bryce was going to be good.
@Marco said in 2022 Recruiting Thread:
Alright people, odds on Rice playing for us? I say 55-45, in our favor. What say you?
90-10 against atm imo
Udeh is seriously a great fit for what Self loves to do with bigs. Gonna have him seal, screen, get angle passes for dunks etc...
@BeddieKU23 If ever there was a front court to tempt Bill to go 2 bigs again it's Zuby and Udeh. He is definitely going to try it lol.
Rebounds and dunks.

@rockchalkwyo Don't think Rice sticks (hurrr) but it is nice to see recruiting back.
Soon :trade_mark:
Announcement is 6pm Kansas time
Happy Ernest Udeh JR day board rats.
@Kcmatt7 They also return everyone though right? That has a ton of value because those players will improve.
@BeddieKU23 said in 2022 Recruiting Thread:
I don't expect he does. Recruiting 5 star types now is a complete crap shoot
He's tied to some people that were involved with other kids that committed to college and then skipped for the G League. Huge part of why NC State backed off.
@Oldmanhawk Correct on both.
Pre-season Kenpom just dropped, KU checking in at #3. Obviously doesn't mean too much, but nice to see.

Espn has his game against Virginia Gold on espn plus.
I did not see anything to get excited about.
I heard lately he had been on an ascendancy. I'll dm you some stuff.
Spoiler: It's Kansas
I think the top 6 players are certainly pretty good. Self will figure out the bench rotations.
@Marco Nope. Just saying Udeh is a player that could have benefited from him being on the staff.
Not really about this year but...Bobby is going to be a good one.
As far as recruits go I think Dick should be a 5*. Zuby to me looks really good, high potential and just getting better all the time. Udeh I think could benefit from Danny Manning, not seeing much skill there. Clean up guy that Self will also create angles to dunk for. I do like his rebounding and defense.
Basically the loose cannon aspect. He is unlikely to change, and we know Self in general isn't changing.
I do think he will be a good player. I think ultimately Harris and Remy both start.
How Remy's style of play works under Self is definitely something to monitor.
Yeaaaaaaaaaaah not thinking MJ Rice is likely to suit up in Lawrence. Traore and Bona also straight pro risks. We are going to see more and more of this but at least they did the NIL thing.
I would be shocked if Yesufu started.
Miller could still go pro. If not, it will be Bama with Memphis having a darkhorse chance. KU is not in the picture.
Please make it to campus
Sorry I'm here to kill dreams. :p
Nope.
Remy saying the right things at least. More on Tait's timeline.
@focojayhawk said in Kansas starting 5:
Seems like Harris and CB are Self guys...although they probably can't both start with Remy/Och/Jalen/McCormick perceived locks. I'll say CB as the 5th and Self calling Harris his "6th starter"
Last I had heard the last starting spot was between Harris and CB. Will be interesting to see what happens.
@BeddieKU23 said in Silence of the flock:
I didn't mention the Hunter Mickelson, Sam Cunliffe, Dwight Coleby, Mario Little's of the world. Transfers are hit and miss as you noted. I think Remy and Yesufu were great additions from the portal and will prove to be the exceptions. Remy with 4 years proven in the Pac-12, torched KU once. Yesufu was so fun to watch in the NCAA tournament and torched USC, a team that made us look like a bunch of 8th graders. He's got some Moxy to him that I'm excited to see how it all fits here.
Agree on Dedric. He was statistically really good but for me underwhelmed in many areas I thought he'd excel at here. That was a weird squad. The injury to Doke & the drama with Vick ruined a lot of it.
With the rules change I think things are going to be a lot different going forward. We are basically going to see the lower levels of college hoops turn into feeders for the big boys. We already saw that this offseason with the likes of Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan State, Michigan etc take in players from low leagues that are expected to have very real roles and/or start.
@Marco said in Silence of the flock:
@BShark what happened to Newman, is he playing overseas?
Yeah, he has really bounced around. Seems like he will have a long career but not at any one place.
Players are by and large what they are. So I will say I wasn't too surprised when Moss and Dedric were basically the same players. I was also not surprised by Charlie's struggles. Malik I think is one where Self really brought the best out of him eventually.
SEC is loaded with talent and not great coaches. Though I am a fan of Nate Oats.
@approxinfinity said in Silence of the flock:
I don’t think he can guard at the D1 level. Having a big whose only use is to shoot threes is incongruous with every bone in Bills body and he will only see floor when games are total blowouts either way.
Mitch will be the real backup 5 in meaningful minutes with maybe one of the freshmen getting a little run when Self is sick of Mitch
I have not heard this but I could see it breaking that way after the games start because Bill is Bill. I truly hope not. Mitch and Bryce were both unreal bad last year.
Yeah honestly I would say 4 years. He's basically the antithesis of Dave. Great rebounder and defensive presence, not going to hit a jump shot.
Jordan Walsh to Arkansas as expected.
@jayballer67 said in 2022 Recruiting Thread:
Here is some of Jerry Meyers scouting report of Udeh : Runs rim to rim , Dangerous offensive rebounder , Tremendous Physique , Best attributes Rebounding & Shot Blocking. Would be a HUGE addition to either KU or UCLA. -& 7'2 wingspan. - -Meyer say he best compares Udeh with former Indiana player and current NBA player Thomas Bryant.
Weakness - Mechanical in his passing but gets the job done - -needs improved foot work
Bill is going to love him. Just a great fit for both sides tbqh.
Heh
Whew, got the 3 pts
