You don't like his price or that KC cannot afford him? He was the top ranked player in the League so logic dictates his salary would be high, right?

In my case it is not his salary, which I think he deserves, but the fact that KC can use that money more efficiently improving other areas such as the defense.

You can't say he is the best QB in the league.

I don't like his price period given his skill level/ability.

I finally understand.... • Jan 31, 2018 06:48 PM

I like Smith but not at his current price point.

Yeah they were playing conference games super early.

Recruiting Thread • Jan 31, 2018 05:43 PM

He'd be here over Sam basically. Agree he wouldn't be playing much this year so I can see why he picked WF.

Recruiting Thread • Jan 31, 2018 05:41 PM

I wanted Chaundee at KU, he is good.

Recruiting Thread • Jan 31, 2018 05:33 PM

@BeddieKU23 Danny has a legit class coming in, so I would assume that keeps him secure for next season. With Chaundee Brown returning, he'd better start accumulating some wins.

Recruiting Thread • Jan 31, 2018 05:29 PM

@BeddieKU23 Interesting. Maybe it was AAU related.

Recruiting Thread • Jan 31, 2018 05:23 PM

Supposedly Langford's dad doesn't want him playing with Shittu.

I think KU will be the best team of the three next year, mainly because of Dedric. I'm super high on Dedric.

Mahomes currently projects as the 19th best QB. Alex as the 21st best....I know projections, but on paper at least it shouldn’t be a downgrade even in year one. What will be way different is the floor and ceiling have gone from fairly close tougher to waaaaay far apart. The bad games will be epic fails; the good games will be amazing. Hopefully it translates to much more post season success, time will tell.

Projections are usually fairly accurate. And it is unrealistic to expect Alex to duplicate the best season of his career. Plus it is worth noting that a lot of his numbers were put up in the early part of the season. When Andy had new stuff cooked up, before the rest of the league caught on.

@FarmerJayhawk I think we would make room for Romeo. Jmo.

@BeddieKU23 Seems like he really did form a connection with Grimes. Could def play out in our favour.

@justanotherfan I think Vandy's biggest problem is having Shittu. He appears to be a really toxic recruit for w/e reason. Lots of scuttlebutt on that.

On paper appears to be a good deal now with the stud corner. http://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/22273770/dj-swearinger-rips-washington-redskins-trading-cb-kendall-fuller ↗

We have $17 million now in cap space. We'll need to spend on a back up QB. But if we can translate some of that to perhaps some more defensive help, this gets more exciting.

@nuleafjhawk Don't despair. We have moved into the "risk" area now. High risk, high reward. We'd enjoyed steady winning. This is a gamble for a higher level of achievement. But it has downside to be sure.

Alex Smith meant purgatory. I'm with you. I'd rather have a miss the playoffs floor but also a real chance to win the super bowl.

Oh and his brother is a very good corner as well and a FA. That would be sick if it happens.

Redskins fans are NOT happy.

Grimes 28/15/6 last night.

I finally understand.... • Jan 31, 2018 02:21 PM

@dylans I think Revis is gone.

This was Smith's best year but he is 34, being paid a lot and still not elite. He was a "safe" option and I think retaining him would have INSURED mediocrity. Is that what we really want? I like going for it.

Completely agree that defensive help is needed. I'd like to see KC add a couple linebackers in FA/draft as well as a pass rusher.

Devon had a big game in front of Self and Norm last night. 34/8/5. Sounds like he was being double teamed a lot too.

I finally understand.... • Jan 31, 2018 02:02 PM

Third round pick + a good young CB still on his rookie deal. The Chiefs also needed to clear up cap space. They can afford to bring in some other good players now. If Mahomes is above average while on his rookie deal, that's how you win.

I finally understand.... • Jan 31, 2018 01:51 PM

There are things to be mad at the Chiefs about, this isn't one of them. GREAT trade. There were people that thought the Chiefs would get nothing for Smith.

Recruiting Thread • Jan 31, 2018 01:49 PM

I don't think it will be Vandy. IU or KU imo.

Recruiting Thread • Jan 31, 2018 03:17 AM

Oregon offered.

Recruiting Thread • Jan 30, 2018 11:52 PM

Yeah I would assume a RS. He is much more of a "Bill Self player" than Cunliffe.

This should definitely be in play. Trae Young obviously has a spot locked up.

Technical Questions about Zone Defense • Jan 30, 2018 06:34 PM

All I know is Bruce doesn't know what a zone is.

There is such a thing as being too positive/unrealistic. I like to think I am realistic instead of negative along with @HighEliteMajor but I'm not saying I haven't been wrong on some things, both ways.

@BShark That is good recruiting info. It tells me that he is good at identifying under-recruited players........I think most teams would take Brown, Wade, and Diarra...don't you? He is also a pretty good coach for getting what he does out of the players he gets. But they always have a couple of down periods during the season which "dooms" them....pun intended.

Well, Wade had a ton of offers I just didn't list them. I'm not sure how much of it is identifying players vs just taking so many guys, some work out.

For every Marcus Foster, Barry Brown and Diarra you have the following: Isaiah Maurice, Brandon Bolden, Ron Freeman, Jack Karapetyan, Jevon Thomas, Tre Harris, Nigel Johnson etc...

Entertainment? I just got on SBnation game thread for KSU: just hilarious reading, especially early when KU was 6of7 from 3. Beware, they call us Squawk over there, but we get the last laugh in the DEVONTAGON-O-GLOOM!!!

Sounds fun.

I went to read the takes of a couple of the reasonable KSU fans. They mostly seem baffled that KSU continually helped OFF of Svi. Real sticking point for them lol.

Random thoughts • Jan 30, 2018 02:30 PM

Well, Kruger being a much better coach than Bruce was never in doubt. :joy:

Cunliffe got in the game because Garrett had 3 fouls in like 2 minutes and Vick was on 2 fouls early as well. Self had no choice. Also he was pretty bad, but didn't hurt us too much.

Bruce was a terrible recruiter at U of I too. His brother coached Jon Scheyer in HS in the Chicago area too, and Scheyer wouldn't go to play for Bruce.

Wouldn't pay Eric Gordon either.

@Bosthawk It's mental with Sam.

Hit in the head with the ball, gets the lose ball then makes a one in a hundred contested layup on the wrong foot. Couldn't stop laughing at that one

I can't imagine anyone wonders why he doesn't play now.

What the heck are we -- well, you -- talking about for us ignoramuses?

On lots of forums you can hide text or an image under a spoiler so people have to click it before viewing. I was just wondering if we could get a feature like that but it seems to complicated and I don't blame @approxinfinity for not wanting to code something himself. :joy:

I don't see anyone leaving from this KSU group. There haven't been reports of him getting sideways with any of these kids and he only has one kid signed so no one is being force out either.

@BShark Good info. So not even close to the pedigree (HS at least) of KU - or probably most other Power 5 schools. So, Weber is a lousy D1 recruiter. But maybe he is a pretty good prep and game coach to be able to coax the record he has given a paucity of talent???

Well, Wade is a good player. I really liked Brown when they got him based on what footage I could find of him. Sneed was obviously a good signing. So 2/3 best players were legit recruits. Brown has a usage rate of 29%, Wade 25% (Graham for reference is at about 25%). So Bruce is playing through his best players. Are they overachieving? Hard to say.

@JayHawkFanToo Well...they yelled F KU anyway. LOL

Random thoughts • Jan 30, 2018 05:37 AM

@DoubleDD I didn't say that. But the goal of defending is to not give up open shots, unless it's a terrible shooter from range. Even then, having a guy in the same zip code is a good idea.

KSU is the best fg% shooting team in the big 12, or they were going into tonight. They had their second worst shooting performance of the season. The worst being against Tulsa, who has a kenpom adjd of #120 in the country. Sometimes, you just suck. KSU sucked tonight, and it wasn't all because of KU. And that's okay.

kjayhawks said:

In all honesty if Weber can keep a couple of these guys from his usual transfer quota they return every single guy that played in tonight’s game but I believe in Bruce, at least one will jump ship lol.

I have KSU and ISU tabbed for good seasons next year barring defections.

Warning: mildly lewd, but hilarious.

kjayhawks said:

Washington is actually still a top 50 rpi team and in the first 4 out currently. That may not end up being a terrible loss but ASU isn’t looking so hot in the PAC 12 after beating KU, KSU and Xavier in the non conference.

Yeah ASU is really weird. I guess not that different than Texas A&M, who also beat a bunch of good teams early.

Not sure how he gets players

Let me tell you a story. It's the story of the other offers KSU players had... It's a really fun game. Only mentioning players that got in the game tonight that Bruce got committed in HS (no JUCOS like Wainwright or Mawien).

Levi Stockard: No other reported D1 offers.

Mike McGuirl: Hofstra. Yep, that's it.

Xavier Sneed: Cincy, Creighton, SLU, WSU, ILL. There are some more too. So, a player actually recruited by other schools. Whoa.

Cartier Diarra: SLU, Georgia State.

Brian Patrick: No other reported D1 offers.

Dean Wade: Had some real offers but this one is unfair since he was a lock for KSU since forever and other schools knew it. Probably his most legit signing next to Sneed but a gift.

Barry Brown: Houston, Western Kentucky.

This just gets better the more I look at it.

@BeddieKU23 This is a recruiting masterpiece is it not? :joy:

@DoubleDD KSU missed quite a few open shots. KU wasn't horrible on defense, but it wasn't an amazing effort either. KSU just missed a lot including lay-ups. It happens. I'll take it.
