New Star Wars is the hot thing right now, but I didn't care for it for too many reasons to list.

Lately I've been watching a lot of older movies.

Some recent watches include

The Rules of the Game, Drunken Angel, Good Morning, Hard Boiled, Seven Samurai, Hidden Fortress, Repo Man, Hidden Fortress, Yojimbo and Sanjuro. Those were some of the better ones.

I'm going to be watching the old Pink Panther movies soon.

What kind of stuff do you like?

Looks like a four guard offense with a 6'8" big. Looks good for Mitch.

Looks like a 2-10 team. :grinning: :shark:

Ukrainian and overrated prospect rocks.

That was fun • Dec 17, 2017 02:04 PM

If anyone can win a conference and make the tournament with 3 starters and a bag full of rocks, it's Self.

The team is just not that good. I have been saying it since the Kentucky game. The part that puzzles hme is that they seem to be less than the sum of all of their parts. Unusual for a Self team. Still love watching and maybe they will surprise us all.

I don't think the parts are that good. Newman and Svi have been pretty horrific against real competition. Though Svi late against Nebraska strung a few good possessions together. Vick disappears at times.

We only had 5 players that scored a point against Nebraska. FIIIIIVE. A starter had no points.

This team simply doesn't have a lot of P5 talent.

kjayhawks said:

Explain how Sam could start for the team that just spanked us for 35 minutes in our own building but he’s not better than Newman? Garrett is okay defensively, no reason to start Newman Monday absolutely none. I’d start Sam to see what he can do Omaha is terrible and should be a 40 point win. Let’s see what the kid can do.

ASU is a MUCH better team this year. They infused a lot more talent into their program.

KUSTEVE said:

@BShark It was ridiculous, imo. Newman was obviously not right. Garrett missed every shot,. Why not give the kid 10 minutes, like you said you would pre-game?

Because it was a tight game and we know all too well how Self coaches in those.

We saw what Self thinks of Cunliffe.

Not sure if this was already mentioned, lots of players from Raleigh in this game. Of course Graham for KU but Nebraska has Thomas Allen, Isaac Copeland and Anton Gill.

KU briefly recruited Allen before looking elsewhere.

lol Buffalo/Ind • Dec 17, 2017 12:49 AM

Rodgers is my favourite QB in the NFL right now. He is so damn good.

Not a good stats for us guys • Dec 17, 2017 12:45 AM

Not sure how it can change. This team struggles to get by their man when facing competition that is actually athletic.

@jayballer54 It's like bloody mary, you have to say the name multiple times for him to appear. :joy:

Interesting stuff in here on Doke.

So what are we watching? • Dec 17, 2017 12:34 AM

Who are the Chiefs? Oh you mean the Chumps. Don't feel like watching Rivers destroy them. KU all the way.

This team doesn't drive the ball well so this isn't too surprising. Sucks though.

@jayballer54 Now let's hope the Hawks can get off the schneid...

Trae Young • Dec 16, 2017 11:08 PM

Great win for the league.

Brady Manek out here balling out. White donk from Oklahoma in a similar ranking range to Mitch and only a FR....

Have I told you all • Dec 16, 2017 09:35 PM

I agree. Out of our misses though I'd prefer Ayton or Sexton. So many misses. :(

Have I told you all • Dec 16, 2017 09:25 PM

Wish he was a Hawk. Though he wouldn't really fix our issues.

KU being a double digit over a P5 team is very suspicious.

I was mostly just being stupid. Not sure a win today changes much but it would be much better than the alternative.

Self has said to be easy on expectations for Sam. Self has also said that he will be a great player but in a few years, ether way just having a guy to go in for a few minutes for Self to bench a guard and tell them why they got pull. Didn’t really have that the first 10 games. With Marcus and Sam on the bench if Svi and Newman make a few bad play Self can sit them both for a bit (while chewing some butt lol).

If he can give 10 okay minutes I think that's a win.

Cunliffe lacks basketball skills.

ASU is a top 5 team. Not really "no names". Wash loss felt a lot worse to me.

Anyway, Nebraska will be tough. They play solid d and don't turn it over...

Markese 23 Pts, 4 Ast, 3 Stl

So I just checked DeSousa twitter. No I didn't tweet anything to him , I didn't tweet anything period BUT

I read a tweet not from DeSousa but from a individual from Kansas hoops chat it read: - -Now that Silvio HAS THE SCORES he needs to enroll early it's still not over yet. - - -But him getting the scores he needed today was a must if he wanted any chance at playing now.

Hmmm? - -so he passed his SAT sound like. - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

This is the same guy, think what anyone will of him direct messaging Silvio, that broke the initial news that Silvio wanted to enroll early. So pretty safe to say Silvio told him directly.

There is still some more stuff to do before he can play though.

Regarding Cunliffe, we have more guard depth to cut some of the minutes our starters have been playing. Self mentioned that this week that 5-10 minutes from Sam could be key in keeping guys fresh. Self downplayed any immediate impact Sam might have. Some of that could simply be on Bill as it seems his minutes will be in that 5-10 range unless he's playing well. I'm actually hoping Sam comes out swinging right off the bat. We could certainly use his athleticism out there and if he can make shots when open its more then we are currently getting from Marcus.

Even Self knows Cunliffe isn't good so at least there is that.

BeddieKU23 said:

What's everyone thinking for this game?

Probably a win but nothing is certain anymore. I really thought the Wash game would be easy. ASU is really good and in hindsight I'm not as annoyed by that one but obviously losing two in a row and one in Allen is unpleasant.

I'm going to summarize our chances with Wiseman in one word: SWOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOSH.

But maaaaaybeee we get one of his free visits???

Probably. Fortunately I don't think it really impacts anything. So not a situation where staying in with him would hurt with JRE or Chandler.

Ty Berry • Dec 15, 2017 01:57 AM

@teebee10 Good to know. Rivals and the like all have him at 6'1'' or 6'2''.

And from the looks of it KU might have some "in's" without having to do to much.

Always nice. Adam Miller is 1000000% a KU level player. I think Berry is too.

Ty Berry • Dec 14, 2017 05:36 PM

The ranking fools at 247 are sleeping, Ty Berry isn't ranked there. I hope he is one of KU's top targets in 2020 along with Nfaly Dante and RJ Hampton. That is of course if kids still have to go to college. If they don't, RJ and Dante probably never play a second of college ball.

KU has a lot of strong connections with elite 2020 guards*, I wonder how many guards KU will take in that class.

*In addition to Berry who is in state, Adam Miller's mom went to HS with Jerrance Howard and Bryce Thompson's dad played for Self at Tulsa.

@BShark Ballock kid is doing great. Hi bb iq, more athletic than I knew, shoots well.

I was hoping he'd pick KU. KU definitely wanted him, but he felt he would play more at Creighton early on!

Recruiting Thread • Dec 14, 2017 04:17 PM

@jayballer54 What Harvey has to weigh is likely starting immediately at somewhere like Creighton vs probably taking a development year in his first year at KU.

I was bummed when Grimes said he likely won’t be playing with Markese. I hope he shows out if he’s gonna be an oad.

I hear ya. I don't think he is totally opposed to staying 2 years if need be. However even if he did stay, he wouldn't see the court too much with Markese. Markese is likely a kid that doesn't play too much as a FR. Barring rapid development anyway.

Yeah, Devon is a really good kid. He will represent the program well.

@jaybate-1-0 There will be growing pains but he is going to end up a top 20 recruit, likely across all the ranking services. His jump shot is definitely the biggest issue at this point.

11 in black was nice and 13 was okay, but the rest of the team were scrubs. It would be hard to evaluate top talent. It’s easy to see who is d1 talent on the court, they stick out. It’s figuring out how they stack up against each other while they are playing inferior talent. Kinda like KUs early schedule. Ranked 2 and blowing everyone out until the talent gap is less, then you get to see what you have.

Yeah, 11 is Sam Williamson, KU legacy. The kid can shoot it for sure. The white team has much more D1 talent. Devion Harmon is a top 50 recruit this year who is committed to OU. Of course Jalen Wilson, a top 50 talent next year that KU is recruiting. They also have a 2018 post player who is committed to Georgetown.

Sam really showed out this summer against better competition. He went from his offers being the likes of Incarnate Word, Abilene Christian, UTSA etc... to being offered by KU, TAMU, LSU, TCU, OU, Marquette.

Aside from being named to the all-tournament team, Dotson was awarded the “Most Spectacular Player” of the China-USA Youth Basketball Specular, which was given to the player that, not only made a lasting impression on the court but one that held himself to an even higher standard off the court.

Markese Jacobs 18 pts, 11 asts and 4 steals last game.

Grimes 24 points a couple days ago in a blowout win.

Recruiting Thread • Dec 14, 2017 01:13 PM

Of note: Creighton and Missouri both had their head coach at Zach Harvey's last game, KU didn't have anyone there. I think Creighton might be a very legit option here.

Recruiting Thread • Dec 14, 2017 01:12 PM

There is a chance both these players are Hawks. Williamson had 31 and 15 in this game. He will continue to climb the rankings imo.

We should get acquainted with this kid's game. He likes KU a lot.
