@BeddieKU23 Rumour mill time
So, my Team Takeover guy, who couldn't care less about Md recruiting, just says to me, "Yall got a point guard". I was like, who? He says "Dotson". I'm not taking it to the bank, but just another log on the fire.

So his decision has to be good news for us right? That he's going to Maryland no matter what happens Friday
Yeah I saw this too. It's definitely not a bad thing.

40-0. Conference teams suck this season and minus UK, our non-con is basically a joke as well... Then you have our roster. Our top 6 are the best in the country, of that I'm sure. If Garrett can play like he did abroad, make that top 7. If Mitch can indeed hit a corner 3 consistently, make that top 8. If Cunfliffe can shoot the trey at a 40% clip, make that top 9. And we know Bill doesn't rotate more than 9 once conference play starts.
I'll print the shirts now.
@Kcmatt7 This is brutal for the kid. Like, what was he doing? I get reporting news but literally they asked for ALL DOCUMENTS AND COMMUNICATIONS or bits on investigation of coaches within an ACTIVE INVESTIGATION. Again, what were they hoping for? Never going to get it. Even if some documents were available, this is the government we are talking about here. What's easier to do? Go dig up a document or use literally any excuse to give a 99% boilerplate response. Then to top it off they got rock hard that the FBI acknowledged them with a boilerplate response so they slanted the story to look like they had something.

I was starting to get excited until he says he plans to see a football game.
I can't imagine why he'd want to see a football game. Maybe it just means he loves KU with all his heart.
Eric Ayala will announce Saturday at 5pm. Guessing Dotson announces before that.

@jayballer54 Yep, definitely. In part it's because of lower tier schools heavily targeting and prioritizing kids early. It has forced the blue bloods to adapt as well. Used to be you could wait and hope to see more development, but not if other schools are pressing hard early on.

I'm fine. I was just letting you know. Maybe you confused Eric Ayala and Ayo Dosunmu? Illinois is heavily involved with Dosunmu.
@jayballer54 It's not a different guy. The same guy went to MD and Rutgers. He is following another BR guy, but he has no affiliation and doesn't work on the edits.

Incorrect.
August 10, 2017: Leaders Named
Eric Ayala names top 9: Arizona, Georgetown, Indiana, LSU, Maryland, Miami, Ohio State, Oregon and Syracuse
September 01, 2017: Leaders Named
Eric Ayala names final 5: Maryland, Miami, Ohio State, Oregon, and Syracuse
Tell me where you see Illinois here.

It appears to be well known that Ayala is a Terp IF needed. If they get Dotson, expect Ayala to be an Oregon Duck, and a huge CB run to Oregon before hand. Until then, people will pick MD because that is Ayala's first choice. Not sure where you got Illinois from.
@FarmerJayhawk Hope you are right.
@RockkChalkk @BeddieKU23 @jayballer54 Yeah I don't know what the deal is with it not showing up on mobile. But definitely, Devon is following this guy. Seems like info starting to leak that Maryland is the choice but it all might just be speculation based on that. What a fun recruitment this has been to follow...

Agree. Maryland staff is checking in today too.
Norm and Self going to NC today to check in with the Dotsons.
@dylans Newman as a RSJR but he won't be here. Grimes kinda reminds me of Selden, perhaps a + version.
@jayballer54 I've heard/read a few times now that Dotson and Grimes can co-exist as long as Grimes is sure that Newman is going pro. Grimes is okay with a 4 guard rotation, but not 5.
This was the last relevant actual update on Dotson...
In Devon Dotson news- According to his father Dana, no announcement date has been set yet but he did say "I think he's close."
When asked if a decision could come this week after Devon tweeted "Big week ahead!" Dotson said "it still could."
Even if he doesn't announce his decision by the end of the week it is still a big week for Devon. It's Homecoming week.
@BeddieKU23 Grimes reads like a Bill Self wish list.
BeddieKU23 said:
Maybe, but Ayala is deciding this week while Dotson still hasn't decided on a date and the way things are going I doubt he does this week at this point.
This could also be related to Keldon Johnson pushing his commitment back and UK lurking for him. Ayala knows there is only a few spots open at Maryland and doesn't want to miss out. I think Ayala committing to Maryland Saturday and Dotson waiting helps us too
Huge UK run for Keldon Johnson. Hopefully Cal knows that Grimes is KU bound. :grinning:

I see KU with 4 losses this year. Kentucky, 2 times to west virginia, and one to texas. I love me some DG, Newman, and Vick; but, the I don't see how they consistently break the press against WVU and not have 25 turnovers. We've truly been spoiled with point guard ball handling skills over the last several years and the aforementioned don't cut it for me in a pressing situation. KU will have 2 weaknesses this year as compared to recent memory:
- the ball handling as mentioned.
- When the shots aren't falling and a play maker taking control and driving the basket for a contact layup and/or a foul.
3 full games is a tall feat. I do like TCU coming in second and WVU coming in 3rd. Each will have 4-5 losses each in conference I'd reckon.
WVU has almost no guard depth. If they have fouls called on them that should be called (much likelier to happen at AFH) they are in trouble.
I'd call for a split here. Probably will lose in Morgantown.
The next time Shaka beats KU at Texas will be the first.
KU will of course lose some games, but predicting which they will be good prove difficult. I could see them beating Kentucky but then losing the before Christmas game to Stanford for example.
Who the go to playmaker is will be an interesting adventure. I don't think it's Graham but Self likes to put the ball in the hands of his seniors. I think Newman, Preston and maybe Vick could all be guys you ask to get their own bucket. Not necessarily by driving to get to the cup like Frank though. Newman in particular is more, make a move to hope to free up space for a jump shot.
Oh and if Cunliffe ever does figure it out, he has NBA athleticism so imo he is completely worth the chance to have on scholarship. Also in my super biased opinion he came to a pretty good place and pretty good coaches to learn basketball.
Kcmatt7 said:
@BShark I'll 3rd that. WVU will be down. UT will be up, but by how much? OU will be up, but by how much? OSU lost their best player, down. Tech should be solid, but basically the same team as last season, slightly up (6-12 conference record). TCU same as last season unless someone takes a big step up. KSU will blow pretty hard it looks like. ISU solid, but I'm not scared of them without Hoiberg or their best two players. Baylor lost their best player and didn't even have that great of a season last year once conference play started. I mean, honestly, who is going to lose less than 6 games in conference play? We won last season by 4 full games. I expect us to probably do the same. Honestly, I expect this team to have no more than 1 loss in conference play this season providing we stay healthy the entire year. And I don't expect anyone to have less than 6 losses again this year. If I were an oddsmaker, I'd set the line at 4.5.
I'd summarize with the fact that TCU might be the 2nd best team in the league. They will probably finish 4th or 5th, but still, you could make the argument.
I think ISU is a year away fwiw, they could be scary next year.

Not sure if this was posted elsewhere. Interesting ranks.
Just looking at the order of the rankings, I agree with that part. Doke and Graham will play as much as they can. Doke is a risk of fouling out, that could happen a lot honestly, but he will be given every chance to play.
Then Newman is one of the best guards Self has had, so slotting him in at three makes sense. Honestly the top 3 here will all get max minutes.
Preston "ahead" of Vick and Svi might look confusing to some but Preston is the 2nd big and should get huge minutes. Vick and Svi will split time, but both should be 24+ mpg guys. Big change is if it never clicks with Billy so Self plays small more.
Then you slot in Garrett as a utility guy who should get solid minutes by necessity.
Lightfoot is Lightfoot. He will have chances though. Honestly he needs to make a good impression this year, because next year's post rotation will be a much, much deeper.
Cunliffe needs to learn how to play basketball.

Newman is an NBA PG. He doesn't really have a future in the NBA
These are very contradictory statements. Which one is it?
Actually it makes sense. He is saying that his NBA position is PG, but also that he isn't good enough to make it in the NBA as a PG. So likely, Newman will have a long overseas career if he wants it. I tend to agree. Though obviously I root for former Jayhawks, and I hope he makes it.
This isn't intended as an insult to Newman at all, he should have a great year for KU this year. Kid can fill it up. NBA is a freak show.
The same guy that cb picked Dotson to MD put in a MD cb for Ayala. Makes sense...in that he is hedging.
@JayHawkFanToo I'm on team el poyo this year, the rest of the league is pretty garbo.

@BShark Can't lose guys like him. Perfect 4 year role guys (in state right?). Especially a kid like him with a lot more upside than probably most guys ranked in his same range.
Texas so not in state but if KU wants him, they should definitely be able to get him.
6'6'' (currently) lengthy guard that can shoot it. Mom and older brother are KU grads. He is looking to come up for a game or two this year. Climbing the rankings after a good summer. Top 100-ish atm. With continue improvement, maybe 60-75 ranking range.
@jayballer54 I've mentioned him a few times before.

|>would really suck we lose out on both Grimes & Dotson. - - ROCK CHALK ALL DAY ONG BABY
Don't think this happens. I think if Dotson pops for MD, Grimes picks KU in short order. I feel that Grimes just wants to make sure Newman is going pro, but if Dotson picks MD then that doesn't even matter. Jmo.
A basketball player.
Also tifwiw but Matt Scott put out a piece on Samuell Williamson and put in a CB pick for him. Oddly not the first, which was Dain Ervin. I think it boils down to if the kid is a take, and he might just be.
Looks like he is committing Friday. Ayala is committing Saturday, so he won't spoil it either way. I legit think Ayala does not know, and his decision hinges on Dotson.M
@BeddieKU23 Well this is from the Maryland turd Ermann
"The Dotsons have kept both coaching staffs, media and fans guessing about where he's leaning. Neither outcome would be a surprise. This could change later in the week, but if I had to make a prediction right now, it would be Kansas."
Yeah. Lots of random "insiders" popping up for this one. And I agree, I don't like the way this is going.
@BeddieKU23 But this random poster making their first post sure is confident!
