More on Zion • Aug 31, 2017 02:10 PM

Very interesting. And yeah the word on Zion was that he is disinterested in playing defense, lol.

De Sousa has had an interesting trajectory so far. Was as high as the #2 recruit. Then he dipped I think to the 40s/50s and is trending back up to the top 25 after a good summer.

@Statmachine Who's the 3rd senior? I thought KU was down to 2 after Whitman left.

I mentioned this earlier. Maybe he meant Clay Young?

I only cursorily skimmed this just now, and don't have time for a full investigation. It seems the point has been made scrutinizing the viability of charities, so I am appointing you @DoubleDD as being in charge of a brisk clean up effort for this thread, to lead the charge in shaking hands, dropping snark without anyone getting one last jab in, and moving on to less contentious material, or I'm afraid this thread may be lost.

I was actually looking to lock this last night because it got so damn ridiculous but I didn't see the option.

@Texas-Hawk-10 Not enough upvotes in the world for you.

2018-2019 will be major rebuilding, the biggest since 09 when we replaced at 5 guys. Obviously we lose Svi and DG to graduation. Newman is all but a lock to go, Doke is gone no question IMO and I would say Preston has a good chance to go. I think we will return only 2 guys that see the court more than a few minutes a game with Vick and Lightfoot.

Self is telling recruits Preston is leaving. In fact McCormack mentioned it. Now, things can change, but we certainly know what the plan is.

Meanwhile JJ Watt has raised 10 million for relief efforts. Good guy JJ!

@jayballer54 You know, if this guy was looking to get paid, he wouldn't commit after his first visit and cancel other schools! Can you say, "Bidding war!"?

Those UMd people are not taking any classes in logic, are they?

Plus this kid literally has the same handler as Bruno Fernando. You know the same Bruno Fernando that is enrolled at Maryland right now.

Not the African we're thinking of, I bet.

Embiid and Doke. Well, Cheick was part of it too of course even if he didn't really play at KU. So 4 in 6 classes.

I watched a couple full games. The kid is a bulldozer. TRob comps aren't the worst...

Over 7 games De Sousa was averaging 17pts and 13 rebs a game. Appears to be their only good player which I suppose isn't too surprising. He dragged them kicking and screaming to a win against South Korea. Also 68% on fts which is pretty damn good all things considered. He at least can shoot it some and could improve.

Probably not happening but I like your thinking @Statmachine . I agree that Self won't push any of them out. I think Preston and Newman are locks to leave, and Doke is close to a lock. Vick I feel could definitely stay. Jmo.

KU only has two SRs on scholarship btw, Graham and Svi. Hard to really count Clay Young.

Ok so lets see if new recruiting thread • Aug 30, 2017 10:16 PM

@jayballer54 I wouldn't worry about it too much. However one specific thing I will mention that I found hilarious is Maryland's actualy 247 insider. Ie a guy paid to write articles, pretty much said that KU paid for De Sousa. LOL

My immediate thought is this is insurance for Dedric. The good thing is he'll be 19 when he steps on campus, physically matured player already. Great job staff on getting this one quick. Have to feel a few others will follow suit now.

He might be 19 when he arrives, but he'll be 20 when he plays his first game for KU. His birthday is October 7.

This has been working out well for KU lately. Mason, Josh and Graham were all guys that took prep years. Actually Billy Preston too, but we don't know how he will do yet.

Also time will tell on the transfers but Self tends to do well with older/experienced players.

Ok so lets see if new recruiting thread • Aug 30, 2017 06:27 PM

@BeddieKU23 Also...same handler as Bruno Fernando, so just LOL at MD fans.

African Post Pipeline • Aug 30, 2017 06:27 PM

It was huge to get a solid post commit. Needed one badly and didn't appear well positioned for ANY until about a week ago with the staff picking up with McCormack and then obviously this commitment.

Their 247 board reached terminal velocity pretty fast. About 4 threads going at once, and they had to lock one, lol.

@Kcmatt7 I just don't feel like Emmitt Williams will be allowed to choose KU. Jmo.

Dedric will be here next season. Preston won't however.

I think Dok and McCormack are tied together. If McCormack commits I'd expect Dok to be gone.

Dedric/De Sousa/McCormack + Lightfoot is a very good front court. De Sousa and McCormack should be 2-4 year guys too, with McCormack closer to 4 and De Sousa closer to 2 but possibly 3. So, how does that impact 2019 becomes a good question but you have to take talent when you can get it. It appears that JRE and Chandler are as close to locks as you can get, but kids wanna play.

“When I was there in Kansas, I couldn’t even express myself or how I was feeling,” De Sousa told the Journal-World. “When you love something, there’s no way you will describe it."

Sounds like a great kid, lol.

As far as we know yes.

Sounds like Self hosted Dotson and De Souza at his home at some point yesterday. Haven't heard many other details of the visit yet though.

Yep, Zags put this out there.

Linky:

Dotson is still in Lawrence on a visit that started Friday so it's probably going quite well. Felt like a confirmation visit going in to hopefully that's the case and he commits to KU w/o taking another visit.

How different things could have been at KSU w/o that scandal.

As for the suspension it could cost them some games but as we know with the Cunliffe situation the first semester isn't all that long when it comes to basketball. I can't say much more w/o reading more about it but if this is really just academic I'm kind of surprised. Remember Darrell Arthur was "eligible" for two years.

Seems like it's an official visit. Also even if he doesn't come to KU, this was great just for what it's doing to the Maryland 247 board right now.

Ok so lets see if new recruiting thread • Aug 25, 2017 08:34 PM

Does Maryland have room for him if they take Moses Brown? Food for thought.

Ok so lets see if new recruiting thread • Aug 25, 2017 08:27 PM

@FarmerJayhawk Fascinating. I've not really seen him mentioned with KU either and he is believed to be a Maryland lean. So, he is visiting with Dotson then? That can't be bad for KU...

Is this Beaty's defining season? • Aug 25, 2017 08:20 PM

I think if KU is going to a bowl game most years and filling seats, that's a fine ceiling.

Is this Beaty's defining season? • Aug 25, 2017 07:36 PM

If KU football finds 5 wins this year, I'd be really damned impressed with Beatty.

Is this Beaty's defining season? • Aug 25, 2017 07:35 PM

@Texas-Hawk-10 You completely lost me when you said KSU and Texas were winnable. Texas has a real coach now. Not sure they are as good as some people think, but they won't be losing to KU again this year. I would also say Baylor and TCU are pretty big reaches. I know Baylor is in turmoil, but their defense is going to be pretty good.

@DoubleDD We need to see some on field results. We still don't know if he can actually win games. You are what your record says you are and Beatty is 2-22. That has to get better this year.

@Kcmatt7 Agree. 3 wins minimum, don't show regression.

Is this Beaty's defining season? • Aug 25, 2017 12:55 PM

So I popped around looking for projections and it's not pretty. Mostly 3 wins (max) and quite possibly regressing from last year.

Why not 4-5 wins? Like Lee last year, some of these Tx and La 3-4stars are good enough to play right away. We'll see, of course.

The last class was pretty JUCO heavy. So maybe HCDB is hoping for more wins this season.

It's going to be hard though. I don't think 5 is possible. Next class is big. However when you start kicking players off the team you'd definitely better win.

Looking at the schedule I see

Should win: SEMO

Coin flip: CMU, Ohio

It'd take a miracle: WVU, ISU, TTU

No chance: the other games

Anything other than last in the B12 would be stunning.

Is this Beaty's defining season? • Aug 25, 2017 02:27 AM

3 wins is a reasonable expectation. Probably going to finish last in the league again. Even just closer losses against the better teams in league would also be a plus.

COACHES PICKS • Aug 24, 2017 01:51 AM

^Yeah. They have similar resumes. It's just...the national narrative is completely different. Maybe because Self is at a blue blood in Kansas and Izzo is doing it at MSU? Honestly, MSU is in a more talent rich area. Izzo has 4 top 150 players on board for 2018, all from Michigan.

@BeddieKU23 I'd almost be surprised if he visits anywhere else. More time for him to work on Zion! Who I think is a UK/KU battle right now. Duke seems to have moved to Reddish (lock) and Barrett, who's pretty open to any school with a check mark.

I agree, especially if the info that Dotson to KU has been a done deal for weeks now. It's also important that he didn't schedule any other visits after KU's either like the Florida trip that has been mentioned so often. I get the feeling this one is a wrap!

His dad is saying the right things publicly but if the UF visit never happens, that's great.

@BShark For some reason Bill has the underachiever stigma while Izzo has the overachiever one.

If you compare Bill and Izzo in Bill's time at KU, Izzo has lost in the 1st weekend 6 times. Bill only 3 times.

It's those surprising final four runs for Izzo that drive the narrative. Well, you could say those teams underachieved in the regular season. Self's record in the EE is unfortunate. Turn two of those into ff appearances and not even necessarily a title and it would be completely different.

From a 247 article

Moses Brown, the No. 2 ranked center in the 2018 class by the 247Sports Composite, appears focused on Louisville, Maryland and Kansas and the No. 2 rated center in the 247Sports Composite has official visits scheduled with the Cardinals and Terps next month.

A five-star center from New York, Brown is scheduled to make his visit official visit to Louisville September 1-2, his coach, Mike McCleary, told InsideTheVille Wednesday.

“I assume since they offered him a visit so early the like him a lot,” McCleary said. “It’s his first visit so I think that means a lot. For him it was difficult to decide who he wanted to visit.”

Brown also has an official visit set with Maryland for Sept. 28.

“Coach Bino (Ranson) has been the most consistent and worked the hardest when it came to recruiting him,” said McCleary. “He’s stayed close to him (Brown) the whole time and I know that meant a lot to Moses.”

“I don’t have a feel which way he’s leaning,” McCleary said. “It’s really up to the visits to figure out which place he fits in best.”

McCleary said he thinks Brown will also set up a visit to Kansas.

“Past that I’m not sure (if he’ll visit other programs),” McCleary said.

They are all performing the UK bump in advance with Keldon. :joy:

I can't see Harris going anywhere but WVU.

This should be a good class for KU.
