COACHES PICKS • Aug 23, 2017 02:12 PM

@BeddieKU23 Honestly not sure he played enough. His advanced numbers were good, but Izzo gonna Izzo and play everybody.

And yeah you just don't see that many high ranked FR stay after one year. Bridges was the one that should have gone but I can't fault a kid for wanting to stay in school and have fun.

Yeah they put up with Rick Barnes for quite awhile and he put up better results than Shaka.

COACHES PICKS • Aug 23, 2017 01:56 PM

@Kcmatt7 He was a frosh. He still needs to play a ton over Nairn. Nairn is PG Jamari death hole. They play 4 on 5 when he is out there. Their front court is RIDICULOUS. Their 4th front court player might start for KU....

Side note: if Josh Langford had that kind of FR season at KU, people would be killing Self. Doesn't seem to even be mentioned with Izzo. :/

@BeddieKU23 He should stick around for 4 years. Not sure where he would go. Duke clearly backed off, KU probably did too.

BeddieKU23 said:

Texas lost an exhibition game in Australia. They are marginally better then last season

checks to see Shaka is still the coach

Not too worried about Texas.

Coleman will be good in time but he isn't going to be high impact this year.

McCormack and Williams would be a hell of a post class.

Ok so lets see if new recruiting thread • Aug 23, 2017 02:02 AM

@jayballer54 Would love to see Williams become a Jayhawk. Nike and his handler make it a tough one. He'd be a great Jayhawk and a great fit in general. He'd absolutely find minutes. Has the kind of energy you just can't teach.

What About Mitchell? • Aug 23, 2017 01:30 AM

@FarmerJayhawk Nice to see you joined here.

LAWSON BAR BILL • Aug 22, 2017 10:05 PM

@JayHawkFanToo And even then, Langford and Miles were not really NBA guys. Tubby had 3 NBA guys, 2 who had 7+ year NBA careers and then Nazr Mohammed who was in the league until LAST YEAR. Then a couple other guys on that team with solid euro careers. Much stronger roster, not really comparable.

NFL total win Predictions CBS • Aug 22, 2017 09:58 PM

@jayballer54 are you a Steelers fan or a Patriots fan?

COACHES PICKS • Aug 22, 2017 09:55 PM

@Kcmatt7 I think Arizona is the clear cut best team, but maybe the orca screws that up.

COACHES PICKS • Aug 22, 2017 03:36 PM

@Kcmatt7 He might, he's 6'11'' and athletic.

@justanotherfan Good observation. I think Malik being around better players will help. Miss State fans were acting like they'd get a lot better without him, but they still sucked last year too.

COACHES PICKS • Aug 22, 2017 01:44 PM

Agree with the coach talking about Jaren Jackson. He was a player I was hoping KU would try to land. MSU is gonna be ridiculous this year.

COACHES PICKS • Aug 22, 2017 01:39 PM

Well, if Malik has bad games he is going to get to play through them. Self isn't going to sit him for long stretches.

@dylans Self has been pretty flexible since 2013 imo.

Tubby Smith is an ok coach, but he can't recruit. Similar to Weber.

He is old and crusty and just dgaf enough to get down in the muck to recruit the highest level of players anymore.

As for Greene, Dedric is a far better basketball player. Also Greene got three years worth of chances. I've heard Dedric is the best player on the roster, he's going to get every chance in the world from Self.

All Is Well • Aug 20, 2017 06:06 PM

I think it depends on how willing to do the dirty work he is. Athletically he is one of the better fits to play small ball 4 on the roster. Just needs to get right mentally and be willing to D up.

What About Mitchell? • Aug 20, 2017 06:05 PM

Yep, would have been a great get, but time to move on.

Linked this in another thread but figured it should be here, in the Mitchell Robinson thread.

@BShark My comment about behind the scenes was intended about your post on the Robinson transfer, meaning I thought there might still be a positive reason no news has come out. Such as working on getting the waiver applic ready to see how likely it is to be granted. Not talking about the past mystery signings/transfers of Whitman, etc. that you guys were discussing.

Just found this when I popped on twitter.

I am really surprised that some distant big player has not found his way to Lawrence to grab that waiting scholarship. Shucks, with just a little bit of big help this looks to be a Final Four squad. A rising European or South American star could immediately embellish his NBA draft potential and gain national attention by becoming a part of this ready made unit.

Lots of amateurism concerns with that route. It would be nice to get another post player on this team though, for sure.

@BShark There might be lots of behind the scenes things playing out regarding the transfer.

I know that's why I was asking. It might have read as sarcasm but hell if I know he could be a big donor that gets to talk to the coaching staff or otherwise just has insider information on the situation. So I was curious if that's the case or if he was speculating.

Ok so lets see if new recruiting thread • Aug 20, 2017 01:36 AM

He might be best served to just go back to WKU. shrug

@BShark Good grief .. of course Withey. Best transfer pick up by Self. KY was the guy, though, that was a dead critical need pick up at the time. Would love to have a KY fall in our laps now. But it's getting late. I agree on Whitman and Maxwell (who I always want to call Murray for some reason). Puzzling additions. Coleby did provide some value.

@brooksmd As a parent, #2 is perfect advice. I've given it .. but we've all probably had a few good things happen after midnight, right?? A long time ago, in (what feels like) a galaxy far, far away.

I feel like Coleby would have had a solid Jayhawk career without that knee injury. Obviously we will never know, but he was pretty athletic before, and after the injury he was afraid to jump.

I doubt there are many stones left to turn over right now but it is unfortunate this Robinson decision really dragged. Looks like the scholarship will remain vacant. Not the worst thing in the world, if there is a high impact mid-season transfer.

@KUSTEVE It's all good, we need a mix. The truth is often in between the overly negative and overly positive posters.

2018 Recruiting Thread • Aug 20, 2017 01:35 AM

Francis Okoro offered. 2019 PF. Probably doesn't end up here, but he looks like a good player.

All Is Well • Aug 20, 2017 01:26 AM

@Texas-Hawk-10 Unless you heard this from the coaching staff I'm not buying it. I think that was a narrative created by some fans. His brother was not trending as a big time recruit. If we are both just operating on opinion here, then we can just agree to disagree on this.

I'd certainly rather have Coleby over Whitman and as it turns out, nobody.

Ok so lets see if new recruiting thread • Aug 19, 2017 09:33 PM

@jayballer54

Carey might not make it. The rest though, are all high targets for the most part. Dante is gonna be unreal. Hope he ends up at KU.

JRE looks like a top priority, and rumoured to be a silent commit. Dunno as much about Harvey.

All Is Well • Aug 19, 2017 09:10 PM

@HighEliteMajor The thing about Maxwell and Whitman is that they were baffling pick-ups at the time, even though as fans some of us tried to rationalize them. And in the case of Whitman well the post situation is so thin that the team just needed a body and he didn't tie anything up beyond one season. Coleby was at least defensible and looked serviceable, but that ACL tear changed him. I'd include Withey in the good run.

I hope it works out, because Dedric is very talented as is Chandler. Chandler and JRE would be a dynamic duo.

Ehhh, some players not so much, maybe just retweet the offer and a couple things. This kid is a legacy with multiple family members that have graduated from KU, and he is talented. Not sure he could commit today but you can bet the staff is keeping tabs on him this season.

Kid to keep an eye on. His offer sheet is kinda funny right now but growing. Has potential and a couple good weekends this summer. Long/tall and still growing. I think he'd be a good 4 year player. His mom and older brother both graduated from KU.

August 28th: LAST day to register for a full time course load( 12 or more hours for undergraduates, and 9 or more for graduates )

August 28th: Full Semester classes:-Last day to add a class , last day to drop a class without a grade. Last day to change a class from audit to credit , Last day to receive 100% refund for a class.

Looks like if anything is going to get done , it has to be by the 28th , hope fully it will be over before that so we can move on. - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

At the end of the day Dedric is really really good at basketball (best player on the team good) so he's going to get a lot of chances to straighten out. More than most people would get, it's just how it is. I'm sure some would say it's unfair.

LAWSON BAR BILL • Aug 18, 2017 07:26 PM

You know the funny thing, Memphis fans and such were saying similar things about Tarik when he left their program. Now...he didn't flip the previous coach the bird when leaving but he sure turned out to actually be a great guy. Hopefully the Lawsons can better themselves while in Lawrence.

Ok so lets see if new recruiting thread • Aug 18, 2017 07:25 PM

@HighEliteMajor He has some threes in his highlights but we know how deceptive highlights can be. He certainly has some skills and I don't think it would be spacing suicide to have Doke and Robinson on the floor at the same time. Hopefully this is something we actually get to discuss, come on down Mr. Robinson.

All Is Well • Aug 18, 2017 12:14 PM

@KUSTEVE Iirc it ended up being reported that the Lawsons didn't even have a gun. But still, they tend to keep on finding trouble. :/

@BeddieKU23 Everyone has issues with that last scholly. Cal fills the end of his roster with garbage. K often just doesn't fill the last scholarship.

Personally, I think carrying 11 eligible players is the best way to go. Doesn't scare away recruits and gives you flexibility in years where you have an opportunity for a stud transfer or just an absolutely loaded class.

Yeah, it's rare that even the 9th player will play much anyway. This isn't the NBA. That said the front court is concerning, ideally you have a 4th guy just in case of foul trouble, injury etc...
