Scouts have never loved him which is why he's still here (a good thing for us). Perimeter shooting is a big key as TexasHawk mentioned. If he has a big year he'll move up & have a shot at getting drafted. I'm a big believer in him.
Coached St Johns from 2004-10 and has been back with KU 10 years now. Followed Self most of his career from Oral Roberts, Tulsa, Illinois to KU.

@BeddieKU23 Arkansas has "resources"
Seems like the entire SEC has that network
Thats our dude! Norm is a legend
Another year would be great for him and us fans but I don't expect it right now.
One thing I've seen the media running with from the game and in general is that he isn't a good defender. I'd have to watch the Duke game over to see if he struggled but I don't recall him being an issue on that end. It's something that could be used as a talking point/weakness for scouts with him.
Gradey sitting at #16 in ESPN's first draft rankings.
Kevin #51, Jalen #66.
Will be interesting to monitor the movement over the year
He did get a floater to go in over Lively. The only shot he took I believe
Without Oscar they don't look good at all.
Gonzaga looked awful against Sparty and even worse last night. Either a sign of the times or they'll look like usual Gonzaga later in the year after winning 20+ games against cream puffs
Round up of some commitments from the signing period
1 2023 player (according to 247), #4 composite guard Isiah Collier picked USC.
Top 100 SG Sebastian Mack picked UCLA.
5 star C Baye Fall committed to Arkansas. Their 5th, 5 star prospect in the last 2 classes.
DJ Wagner, the #1 rated recruit in the composite picked Kentucky.
Colorado picked up a 5 star in SF Cody Williams & also landed 4 star PF Assane Diop
10 ranked 5 star PF Ron Holland picked Texas.
The key around those 2 is ball movement. We seem to do well when we get Adams cutting the middle of a high pick and roll. If he's good for 4-8 pts a game on those kind of plays it's impactful in a full game.
Harris hasn't shot the ball well at all so far. At some point he'll have to make some perimeter shots. He's very streaky when it comes to that. So far he's done enough offensively but as scouting reports get more in-depth again we'll see teams adjust especially in conference play.
It was early when I did this, before coffee. Never again

@BeddieKU23 KJ's PER should be 14.6 not 1.6 XD
Yupp typo, fixed
Updated after giving that Johnny Boy his first L. Glad it was KU
At this point its clear, Jank is too good to play & they must protect his draft stock.

Jalen on 1,000 pt club watch. He's on pace for a monster season. Kevin could also join the club by end of year.
No doubt their size was a big concern before the game, I was nervous. At times Duke really played to that size advantage down low. Lucky for us, it only came in spurts since they are so young. I also think KU showed they have the ability to play big and impact shots at the rim. Double digit blocks is a very impressive stat as a team. We had quick hands and timing
If the National Media doesn't start recognizing Jalen Wilson as an All-American shame on them. I think KU will have to start campaigning for him soon, he's already playing at an AA level. Give him his due.
Great point, I noticed Duke defending Gradey a certain way. Self and Co will see that tape and adjust. Teams did it to Ochai once they caught on. Gradey has too high of a BBIQ so he'll adjust as well. I think Duke scouted us extremely well tbh. I'd hear coaches calling out a lot of our staple plays, the screen to lob was disrupted 4/5 times due to awareness from their bench for example. Gradey's man didn't help which is why he didn't get many good looks, he also struggled some in the first half with shots, so I think it was some freshman moments he was working through but the response he gave late is why he'll only be a Jayhawk one season.
I mean that was probably a C+ game overall with a A+++ finish. You take that finish every time, we saw the fight, the leadership, guys step UP and make plays when it counted, defensive toughness, playing as a TEAM.
The culture of this program right now couldn't be any higher. I'm super impressed, you can feel it.
We know Self will find ways to motivate this bunch. I have no doubts at all he isn't resting on his success of last season. If anything with how this team has played so far, I'd say he's got these guys bought in already & is going to continue to sharpen the knife along the way.
haha classic and hilarious

Very physical game. I was just happy nobody was serious injured but Kevin, Juan, Joe were all grimacing at one point or another. We matched their physicality though, this team is TOUGH, already, Bill Self has already molded this group and he's going to keep doing so as the season goes along.
The refs were out of hand in the 2nd half. We are lucky their impact didn't cost us the game.
Back issue plagued Kevin last year too. Great toughness from him and Dajuan last night.
Hopefully not lingering issues. Two guys we cannot afford to have on the sidelines

Blakes, who damn near tackled Wilson is Kyle Cuffe's former teammate in HS.
Jalen, Juan and Kev bring an incredible level of leadership to this team that will be leaned on just like last night. Duke doesn't have that. It's hard for them to have it with puppies every year. Jalen is a grown man and it shows in everything from confidence to his play. Juan is the quiet leader running the show. Kevin is the robin to Jalen's batman. It wasn't perfect but I'm mighty impressed with the result
Summed up well my friend!
Yeah we learned something real good about this bunch that last 4 minutes. They got it
Our interim coach beat coach k's savior.
You hate to see it
Glorious end to this
What the f is that.
Wow wow wow
Good response
+10 on the boards. Not good
Missing a board guy
Shooting is a major problem
Zub with happy feet in the lane then a really nice block. Good minutes despite the ups and downs
Really bad pass
Fake foul
Big time Jalen
Jalen seems to be the only one that's not timid on O. That's a big concern but we
Knew this team is young
Wow you gotta be kidding me
Udeh lost defensively
Nothing you can do about a 7 footer driving and dunking like that.
Wow refs put the pipe down
Well we shall see what fight they got. Need a good 4 min stretch here
Damnit
Wow gradey missed that horribly. Could have changed the game right there

No fouls on Duke in that last sequence is a joke
Awful and predictable
Sloppy play
