Wow
Shit kevin
Omg Joe
Yeah looked like Udeh fouled. He's gotta learn there
Awesome start
Ugh 1024 start
Ouch Rice would have been impactful tonight.

No Whitehead for dook
Significant defection for them. Still think we'd beat them with him
Lots of unhappy gamblers right around 11:30pm eastern time tonight I'm predicting

TCU gets beat by Northwestern St. at home 64-63. WTH?
They STINK.
Of note Miles and Baugh were out.
Kinda their 2 best players.

Free throws could be a concern if the game is close, given we've only hit 52% so far.
Great point, they have been horrid so far there.

We'll see, I'm not diminishing that it's Duke and they have talented players. They are playing big right now because they don't have Whitehead to plug in the starting lineup. It's a significant piece missing so they are adjusting right now. Roach is their only guard playing well since he's a vet, their other prized guard has been downright awful in their 2 games so far.
We're minus Self for this matchup so Duke is extremely lucky there & perhaps that's something we need to take a bit more serious than we have. Norm has done a great job so far, but this is a whole different level of game. Kind of even since this is Scheyer's first without Daddy to take care of him.
If this game is played right, KU shouldn't have to worry about their size as much as Duke has to worry about KU's firepower in the backcourt/wing. I think we hold a significant advantage on the perimeter in this game & that should ultimately lead to a KU victory.
Agree that if we can push the tempo where we like it that would be ideal. I do wonder how our half-court offense will look against good teams (hence why I was surprised how cohesive this group has looked in warmup games) since we have so many guys stepping into bigger roles.
This emphasis on pushing tempo that started last year has been a very pleasant improvement over previous year. We used to say Billy Eugene was stuck in his ways but the guy keeps finding ways to say hold my beer.
DAM - -what brand of BEER LOL
Certainly not the cheap kind!

@BeddieKU23 They still have Ten ranked 3rd in adjusted defense, even though they got rocked for 88 points at home.
Early season numbers from analytics mean less then nothing until enough data is there to flush out last year with the current one. I just found that amusing as you posted about how much parity there is in College Hoops when a ranked team can go down by double digits to an unranked team that had just previously lost to the #298th team in the country. College Hoops be wild'

Yeah Lively played 14 minutes in their last game, missed the opener. They played two bad teams, same as KU.
Personally, I don't think this Duke team is that good without Whitehead right now. Last year's Duke team would beat them by 25+. But it's a new year and anything can happen I suppose.
I'm hopeful our vets especially Jalen, Kev & Juan will carry the rest of the team. Duke is so reliant on freshman this year. Perhaps Lively becomes a version of Banchero & they are able to anchor around that, but I don't see nearly the hype for him as there was with Banchero.
It will be interesting to see who steps up on the big stage. I know Jalen is going to and I hope the rest of the team rallies around that
Even funnier, Kenpom still thinks Tennessee is better then KU.
Kaden Cooper picked Oklahoma. Surprised. Know they were the home school but he seemed like he was shopping out of state. Big 12 continues to load up on talent

Clemence is day to day after taking a shot to the nose in the game Thursday
That shot was brutal. Are they not doing auto techs for elbows to the head anymore?
Just a miss on the official's part, I guess. It was a bang bang play but clearly the offensive player was at fault and should have been reprimanded for the use of that arm

@BShark Wheeler off the bench tonight for UK lol
You hate to see it. In all seriousness I hope he has grown up since last yr. Lots of Marcus Smart antics. Glad we missed on him
Agree, especially the first half last night made you start dreaming of really good things.
I'm surprised we've looked this clean and cohesive this early with all the new faces. Credit to the coaches and the vets returning. Seems like J Will, Juan, Kevin, Joe are real veteran leadership kinda guys with zero ego's. You would never know Kevin wasn't here half a decade already the way he's fit in so far.
Good point and agree. He hasn't looked comfortable at all. I think he senses he's been surpassed.
Yeah I think Self will stick with 9 (including Yesufu). Yes can be instant offense and his defense so far has looked very good.
If Bobby continues to play like he has I feel he'll take some minutes from someone. We may see more of Bobby/Juan on the floor together as well at times.
Jalen has ascended, he's got All-American vibes but its early. I had really high hopes for him out of High School but he's surpassed what I thought he could be. Thank Jon Beilein every day for leaving for the Cavs!
In time I see no reason why he wouldn't establish post moves etc. I thought maybe he was a little more raw coming in then we've seen so far so I'm very encouraged with his early play. He certainly has shown he can impact the game in a positive way on both ends already
The fact he already has that mindset on defense as a freshman is extremely encouraging. Doke became a beast at this his Sr year. Dave was another who got much better at this in his Sr year. Udeh is ahead of them already.
It's 2 games and they have done a good job telling Udeh to set screens and roll within the belly of the offensive sets & its working. He's barely scratching the surface to a full man's game but wow what he does well already is almost jaw dropping. He could be the best athlete on this team bar none among a bunch of really good ones
Its 2 games and we've played no one so this is an early overreaction take but this dude, the flashes he's showing are impossible to ignore.
He's got some Embiid/Doke vibes to him. The ability to run the floor like he did last night for multiple dunks is very impressive. He has some quick twitch jumping ability at his size which we haven't had in the frontcourt in a while. He's not afraid to switch onto a guard on the perimeter defensively already which is rare to see from a freshman. He changes the offense with his lob ability, not just that he's good at it, he's elite there, his wingspan and athleticism allow you to throw it up at a height or angle that only he can reach. Again, extremely impressive.
Self found his next big thing
